Laureston Alexander Williams, 58, of New Haven, departed this life February 18, 2008 at CT Hospice.
Born in Barbados, West Indies, December 3, 1949, he was the son of Una "Alma" Williams Woods and the late Harold Porte.
Mr. Williams was a graduate of Atlantic Union College, South Lancaster, MA.
In addition to his mother, he leaves to mourn his beloved sisters, Sherrill Greenidge and Maria Taylor of New Haven; a brother, Roderick "Roddy" Williams of Catonsville, MD; his stepbrother, John Woods, Jr. of New Haven; three nephews; six nieces; aunts, Ellen and Blanche Graham of New York; a cousin, Wilfred Sealy of North Haven; and his best friend, Joy Mullings of New Haven.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 2, 2008, at 2:00 PM at Mt. Zion Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 64 Marlboro St., Hamden.

Lurline D. Rose
1923 - 2008
Lurline D. Rose, 84, of Hamden, departed this life February 7, 2008. She was the wife of Victor Rose.
Born in St. Catherine, Jamaica, September 17, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mabel Powell.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Carlton Rose; a brother, Clive Powell; a grandchild, Dainara Rose; and a host of other relatives and friends.

David Nelson, Jr.
1941 - 2007
David Nelson, Jr., 66, of West Haven, departed this life September 23, 2007. He was the husband of Bernice Nelson.
Born in Gable, SC, August 27, 1941, he was the son of the late David Nelson, Sr. and Annie Nelson.
Prior to retiring in 2003, he was employed at CT Transit as a Bus Operator.
He was an Army veteran.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Shawn Nelson; a daughter, Tracy Nelson; a sister, Pearl Welch; grandchildren, David D. Nelson, Darius J. Nelson, Chase and Bryce Hart and Lashawn Williams; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Nelson.

Helen Marie Wilkinson

Helen Marie Wilkinson, 77, of New Haven, departed this life February 7, 2008. She was the widow of Earl Wilkinson.
Born in New Haven, CT, April 4, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Lovett and Helen Parker.
Mrs. Wilkinson was employed by the New Haven Board of Education as Paraprofessional.
She leaves to cherish her memories, a son, Daniel F. Wilkinson (Toya); a daughter, Karen A, Wilkinson; a sister, Dolores Parker Foster; a special sister, Patricia A. Joshua (George); and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by brothers, Ernest and Raymond Parker.

Addie V. Thorpe

Addie V. Thorpe, 77, of New Haven, departed this life April 8, 2008.
Born in Fieldale, VA, July 10, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Douglas and Martha Parker Penn.
Prior to retiring, she was employed at the Yale Divinity School as a Cashier.
She leaves to cherish her memories, daughters, Linda Thorpe (Stanley) and Dena West; sons, Louis Thorpe, Jr. (Wanda) and Phillip Thorpe (Rita); brothers, William, Alvin, Thomas and Michael Penn; sisters, Hilda France, Marion Smith and Janice Gravely; a great grandson, Vinston Louis Thorpe; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her former spouse, Louis Thorpe, Sr.; her grandson, Marshall J. Thorpe; and brothers, Daniel "Sonny" Webster Penn and Frederick Penn.
A celebration of Ms. Thorpe's life and legacy will be held Saturday, April 12, 2008, at 9:00 AM at St. Matthew's UFWB Church, 400 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 8:00-9:00 AM. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Maria S. Williams
1950 - 2008
Maria S. Williams, 57, of New Haven, entered into eternal rest on April 26, 2008 at CT Hospice in Branford, CT.
Born in Naguabo, Puerto Rico, May 25, 1950, she was the daughter of Juan Williams of New Haven, CT and the late Maria Williams. She was the stepdaughter of Aracelly Williams.
Maria was a member of St. Martin DePorres Church where she served faithfully. Prior to retiring, she was employed by the State of CT Dept. of Social Services as an Eligibility Service Worker.
In addition to her father and stepmother, she is survived by a son, Juan L. Dukes; a daughter, Myra L. Dukes; a grandson, Joshuwa Diaz; granddaughters, Chelsey Redd, Rhianna Dukes, Geneva Borzenski and Maliya Spruill; a daughter in-law; a son in-law; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and her church family.
She was predeceased by brothers, Israel Gomez and Juan Williams, Jr.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, May 1, 2008, at 11:00 AM at St. Martin DePorres Church, 136 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at church from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
Isaiah Pryor

Isaiah Pryor, 76, of Hamden, CT, departed this life October 16, 2007. He was the widower of Beulah Pryor.
Born in Owens, VA, March 30, 1931, he was the son of the late William and Elizabeth Pryor.
He had been employed by Florence Foundry in Florence, NJ.
Mr. Pryor is survived by his children, Diane Langston, Madeline Pryor and Isaiah Pryor, Jr.; a sister, Sadie Lindsey; five grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Almeta "Big Mama" Parker, 85, of New Haven, departed this life November 8, 2007. She was the widow of Roosevelt Parker.
Born in Nichols, SC, December 25, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Marsden and Sarah Bell.
Mrs. Parker is survived by a daughter, Bernice Juanita Bell; a brother, Otha Bell; 8 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

John Roy Carney, 85, of New Haven, departed this life September 27, 2007.
Born in Bethel, NC, January 13, 1922, he was the son of the late Rev. John Henry Carney and Lena Carney.
Prior to retiring, he was employed at Yale University as a Delivery Truck Driver for the dining hall.
He was a member of St. Matthew's UFWB Church and was also a WWII Army veteran.
Mr. Carney is survived by his children, Tony Carney and Cynthia Ebron; a sister, Leatha C. Cotten; several grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by a brother, Walter Clayton Carney and sisters, Magnora Dolberry and Annie Mae Knight.

Born in Hamden, CT, September 25, 1941, she was the daughter of the late William and Rose Franklin.
Prior to retiring, she was employed at Yale New Haven Hospital for 34 years in the Environmental Services Dept.
Mrs. Sellers is survived by sons, Wilson Sellers, Jr. and Burice Sellers; daughters, Valerie and Lashell Sellers; brothers, Johnnie, Douglas and Dennis Franklin; a sister, Pauline Franklin; 6 grandchildren; a great grandchild; and other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by brothers, Zack and Robert Franklin.
