Robert Lee Flowers, Jr.
1930 - 2008

Robert Lee Flowers, Jr., 77, of New Haven, departed this life March 3, 2008. He was the husband of Florice Wynn Flowers.
Born in Goldsboro, NC, August 16, 1930, he was the son of the late Robert Lee Flowers, Sr. and Nora Flowers-Hamilton.
Prior to retiring, he was employed at Winchester Repeating Arms and was also employed by Murphy's Security at the Hospital of St. Raphael.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Annette Flowers and Otelia Darden; brothers, William Flowers and Robert Wynn; sisters, Cora Flowers, Barbara Jean Ramsey, Ethel Sampson and Ernestine Best; a brother in-law, William Newsome; ten grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by a son, Linwood E. Flowers and a sister, Dorothy Newsome.
A celebration of Mr. Flowers' life and legacy will be held Thursday, March 6, 2008, at 1:00 PM at Varick AME Zion Church, 246 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 12:00-1:00 PM. Burial will be in Goldsboro, NC.

Winifred C. Gifford
1931 - 2007

Winifred Carolyn Gifford, 76, of West Haven, CT, departed this life December 24, 2007. She was the wife of Burton V. Gifford, Sr. retired NHPD Deputy Chief Inspector.
Born in New Haven, CT, she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Dorothy Rogers and granddaughter of the late Carrie Smith.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Patricia Gifford Jones (Mack), Regina Gifford Estelle, Mendal Gifford, Arlene Gifford Forbes (Wesley), Burton V. Gifford, Jr. (Kim) and Crystal Gifford Jackson (Renard); 10 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren; a brother, John Sands; sister, Janice Williams; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her sister Arlene Elkins.
A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Mrs. Gifford's life and legacy will be held Saturday, December 29, 2007, at 9:30 AM at St. Martin DePorres Church, 136 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 8:30-9:30 AM. Burial in All Saints Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., Meriden, CT 06450 or to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Dr., Wallingford, CT 06492.

Edward T. "Honey Boy" Moore
1935 - 2007

Edward T. "Honey Boy" Moore, 71, of Hamden, CT, departed this life October 21, 2007. He was the husband of Freadie Mae Carrington Moore.
Born in New Haven, CT, November 17, 1935, he was the son of the late Elmer "Porgie" and Lucile Jane Thomas Moore.
Prior to retiring, he was employed at the New Haven Housing Authority.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Denise Moore Robinson (Ronald), Annete Miller (Russell) and Deborah Jane Fisher (Burrell); stepdaughters, Debra Ann Bonds (Alvon) and Donna Marie Rhinehart; brothers, Elmer "Pete" Moore (Gloria), Sherril E. "Bummy" Moore and Gordon Moore (Mary); 4 grandchildren; and a host of step-grandchildren, great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by a son, Sabastian Moore; a stepdaughter, Elizabeth Rhinehart; a brother, Donald "Flippy" Moore and a sister, Mary Jane Moore Hayward.
A celebration of Mr. Moore's life and legacy will be held Friday, October 26, 2007, at 11:00 AM at St. Matthew's UFWB Church, 400 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.

James Stanley, Sr.
1935 - 2007

James Stanley, Sr., 72, of New Haven, departed this life December 5, 2007.
Born in Pitt County, NC, March 12, 1935, he was the son of the late Johnny Heath and Nancy Stanley.
Mr. Stanley was employed for numerous years at U.S. Steel as a Machine Operator.
He is survived by his former spouse, Eleanor Beard Stanley; sons, James Stanley, Jr. (Rebecca) of Hamden, Edward Beard of New Haven, Eugene Beard (Diane) of Snellville, GA and Alton Brown of Bethel, NC; daughters, Crystal Beard-Morton (Timothy) and Marsha Beard both of New Haven, Nancy Brown of Bethel, NC and Mary Pettaway of Tarboro, NC; brothers, William Stanley of New Haven, Charlie and James H. Heath, both of Greenville, NC, Johnny Heath of Pearce, FL and Jessie Heath of Virginia Beach, VA; daughters, Lillian Doward of Rocky Mount, NC and Louise Sharpe, Doris Heath and Mary Jones all of Greenville, NC; 17 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by a brother, Charlie Stanley, Jr. and sisters, Martha Mae Doward, Ella Mae Brown and Pearl Wooten.
A celebration of Mr. Stanley's life and legacy will be held Monday, December 10, 2007, at 11:00 AM at Curvin K. Council Funeral Home, 128 Dwight St., New Haven. Friends may call from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.

Betty Allbrooks
1947 - 2008

Betty Allbrooks, 60, of New Haven, departed this life February 8, 2008. She was the widow of Paul Allbrooks.
Born in Goldsboro, NC, September 25, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Mary Sherard.
Prior to retiring, she was employed at the Clifton House Healthcare Center as a Certified Nurse's Assistant.
She leaves to cherish her memories, sons, Terrence and Maurice Sherard, Paul T. Allbrooks and Brian Roundtree; a daughter, Sheila Roundtree; brothers, Carlton, Billy Ray, Reginald and Paul Sherard; sisters, Miriam Henry, Debra Atkinson, Karol Ford and Paula Artis; 5 grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Tyshan Allbrooks and a sister, Mary Yvette Bates.
A celebration of Mrs. Allbrooks' life and legacy will be held Wednesday, February 13, 2008, at 11:00 AM at Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 100 Webster St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial in Hamden Plains Cemetery.

Barbara Ann Haynes
1950 - 2008

Barbara Ann Haynes, 57, of New Haven, departed this life April 29, 2008. She was the wife of Otis B. Haynes.
Born in Duluth, GA, September 9, 1950, she was the daughter of Mary Strickland and the late Robert Strickland.
Prior to retiring, she was employed at SNET as an Operator.
In addition to her husband and mother, she leaves to cherish her memories her children Robert, Mitchell (Trina) and Maurice Strickland and Terlayne and Tasonn Haynes; sixteen grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Graveside service will be held Friday, May 2, 2008, at 11:00a at Evergreen Cemetery, 769 Ella Grasso Blvd., New Haven.

Carolyn Jones
1942 - 2008

Carolyn Jones, 65, of New Haven, passed away on January 4, 2008.
Mrs. Jones was born on June 20, 1942 in Hope Mills, NC, daughter of Albertha Hicks-Richardson.
She dedicated 35 years of service at Pratt & Whitney, A United Technologies Company, as a Head Inspector on 2nd shift. She was the First Lady of Second New Light Baptist Church of Bridgeport, CT, where her husband, Elder Clifton Jones, Sr. serves as pastor.
In addition to her loving husband of 40 years, Elder Clifton Jones, Sr., she leaves a son, Clifton Jones, Jr.; daughters, Angela and Veronica Jones and Maritzka Stevenson (Elmer, Jr.); a sister, Iris Morris; an aunt, Annie Taylor; a cousin, Joyce Powers; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral service, in celebration of Carolyn's life will be held Thursday, January 10, 2008, at 11:00 am at St. Paul Union American Methodist Episcopal Church, 1267 Chapel St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 am-11:00 am. Burial in Beaverdale Cemetery, Hamden.

David Dixon, Jr.
1935 - 2008

David Dixon, Jr., 73, of New Haven, departed this life March 7, 2008. He was the widower of Eva Mae Dixon.
Born in Greenville, NC, February 23, 1935, he was the son of the late David Dixon, Sr. and Almeta Dixon.
Prior to retiring, he was employed as a Construction Worker.
Mr. Dixon is survived by his sons, Clarence, Roger, Walter, Ronnie, James and Dion Dixon; daughters, Joann Anderson and Shirley and Carolyn Dixon; brothers, James Earl, Donald and Clinton Earl Dixon; sisters, Mary Tyson, Dorothy Jean Jenkins, Dorothy Mae Harrington, Addie Hopkins and Alice Faye and Margaret Louise Dixon; 13 grandchildren; a great grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by sisters, Almeta Tyson and Earline Dixon; and 2 grandchildren.
A celebration of Mr. Dixon's life and legacy will be held Saturday, March 15, 2008, at 9:00 AM at Church of God of Prophecy, 155 Grand Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 8:00-9:00 AM. Burial in Hamden Plains Cemetery.

Carrie N. Hugee
1913 - 2007

Carrie N. Hugee, 94, wife of the late Richard Hugee, entered into rest, November 1, 2007 at Harborside Arden House in Hamden.
Born in Salters, SC, March 25, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Willis and Norah Nelson.
Prior to retiring, she was employed for many years at Sargent Manufacturing Co.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter, Aliva H. Mabry; granddaughters, Lorraine Bullock (Hugh Jr.), Carrie Johnson, Deborah Alston (John Jr.) and Louise Mabry; 9 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by a grandson, Leroy Mabry, Jr; a son in-law, Leroy Mabry, Sr.; 5 brothers; and 4 sisters.
A celebration of Mrs. Hugee's life and legacy will be held Tuesday, November 6, 2007, at 10:00 AM at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1324 Chapel St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 9:00-10:00 AM. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.

Ossie Gay
1928 - 2007

Ossie Gay, 79, of New Haven, departed this life September 16, 2007. He was the husband of Mable Gay.
Born March 14, 1928 in Hancock County, GA, he was the son of the late Prince and Ollie Gay.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Gay was employed at the V.A. Medical Center.
In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory, sons, Ossie, Jr. (Lavonne), Anthony, and Nathaniel Gay (Tanisha), Miles, Bobby and Charles Hines; a daughter, Diane Gay (Ronald A. Jones); brothers, Willie and Andrew Gay; a sister, Annie G. Hall; 17 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.
A celebration of Mr. Gay's life and legacy will be held Friday, September 21, 2007, at 11:00 AM at Macedonia Church, 184 Butler St., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
