In Meriden, CT, August 2, 2001, Ethel G. Brooks of 4226 Ashlar Village, Wallingford, CT, wife of the late James F. Brooks. Born in Dunmore, PA on February 19, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Ethel Harris Thomas. Mrs. Brooks was the Secretary to the Superintendent of Schools in Middletown, NJ for 30 years before her retirement. She moved to Hamden, CT in 1994 and in 1999 to Wallingford. She is survived by daughters: Beverly Jurkiewicz of Hamden and Carol Boulton of Meadville, PA and grandchildren: Michael and Gregg Jurkiewicz, Sierra and Keegan Boulton and Laurel Post. She was predeceased by a daughter, Audrey Post.
Service of Interment will be held on Monday, August 6, 2001 in Fair View Cemetery, Middletown, NJ at 1 P.M. Arrangements with BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 WHITNEY AVE., HAMDEN. CT. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Grant-in-aid Fund, Ashlar Village, P.O. Box 70, Wallingford, CT 06492.

Cecelia Peszynski Brusie

MERIDEN - Cecelia Peszynski Brusie of the Connecticut Baptist Home, formerly of 1544 East Main St., died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003 at the Masonic Geriatric Healthcare Center in Wallingford. She was the wife of the late Harlowe G. Brusie. Born in Meriden, she was the daughter of the late George B. and Mary Smietana Peszynski and was a lifelong resident of Meriden where she attended local schools and church. Until her retirement in 1960, she was employed for many years at the Southern New England Telephone Company and was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews of Meriden and surrounding towns.She was predeceased by four sisters, Emily Drauss, Frances Wiech, Harriet Kozuch and Loretta DeMartin, and two brothers, Bernard Peszynski and Theodore Peszynski.
Relatives and friends may call Tues., Nov. 25, 2003 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, followed by her funeral at St. Stanislaus Church at 10 a.m. where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. If desired, contributions in Mrs. Brusie's memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492 or to a charity of one's choice.

In the Hospital of St. Raphael, Sept. 23, 2004, Dorothy A. Braun, 85, of 310 Terrace Ave., West Haven, wife of the late George William Braun, Sr., mother of George William Braun, Jr. of Branford and William Ernest Braun of West Haven, sister of Merwin Linsley, Jr. of Washington State, Arthur Linsley of Orange and Russell Linsley of Meriden. Also survived by five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Ruth Wymer, Alberta Mack, brothers, Herbert and Ernest Linsley and a granddaughter, Lisa Vanessa Braun. Dorothy was born in New Haven, July 19, 1919 a daughter of the late Merwin and Anna Borneman Linsley. She had worked in for the Hospital Co-op Laundry of Milford, Sargent Co., Rubber Craft, United Elastic and did housework in private homes. She was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of West Haven, a member of the West Haven Senior Center, Retired Senior Volunteer Program (R.S.V.P.) and a senior companion.
Funeral service Mon., Sept. 27, 2004 at 10 a.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT TAYLOR FUNERAL HOME, 410 Campbell Ave., West Haven. Friends may call Sun. from 4 - 8 p.m. Interment in Beaverdale Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the West Haven Senior Center, Companion Service, 1 Forest Rd., West Haven, CT 06516.

Brown of Hamden and Nancy Elizabeth Gebhard and her husband Robert Gebhard of Denver, CO, grandmother of Elizabeth Ann Brown of Denver, CO, David E. Brown of Los Angeles, Angela L. Gebhard Greene, Casey E. Gebhard both of Denver, CO and Jennifer A. Gebhard of Chicago, IL, great-grandmother of Ally Elizabeth Greene.
Mrs. Brown was born in Brooklyn, NY, March 25, 1914, daughter of the late Walter E. and Mary Elizabeth Nicholson Banford. She lived in the Mid-West most of her life, she worked as a Bridal Consultant and for the past several years she was the office manager for her son, Dr. Thomas E. Brown of Hamden. She attended Drake Univ., Des Moines and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Society.
Funeral service will be at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden, Saturday, Feb. 9 at 10:00 A.M. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 P.M.

MERIDEN - Dorothy Jane Brainard, 79, of 292 Thorpe Ave., died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Frank S. Brainard. Born in Meriden, Dec. 26, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Wilhelmine Nelson Greiner. She was a member of St. Andrew Episcopal Church.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Ronald Spencer of Southington; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Leslie Brainard of Cheshire; and three grandchildren and a spouse, David and Karen Spencer of Cheshire, Susan Carson of Southington and Amy Brainard of East Brookfield, MA. She was predeceased by a sister, Mildred Greiner.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew Episcopal Church, 20 Catlin St., Meriden. The Rev. Anne Jensen will officiate. Burial will be in Indian Hill Cemetery in Middletown. Relatives and friends may call Friday (TODAY) from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. Mabel Violet Bristol, 91, of 140 Cook Hill Rd passed away June 21, 2003. She was the wife of 51 years to the late Frederick George Bristol. Mrs. Bristol was born in Meriden September 6, 1911 a daughter of the late Albert P. and Hannah Anderson Peterson and resided in Meriden for most of her life before moving to Cheshire. She graduated from Meriden High School in 1929 and played on the women's championship basketball team. Mabel attended the Meriden Nursing School and received her LPN degree. She was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist church, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir, a graduate of hairdressing school and she taught crafts at the Cheshire Reformatory. She was a member of the Meriden Women's Club, and the New Haven Christian Women's Club
Mrs. Bristol is survived by two daughters; Mrs. Bruce (Elizabeth) M. Jones of Sandwich, MA., Mrs. Edward( Fredericka) Paddock of Gardner, Ma., a son William G. Bristol of Meriden, 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday June 24 at 10 AM at the Calvary Baptist Church. Rev. Joel Rissinger will officiate. Friends may call Monday at the Beecher and Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home 48 Cook Ave Meriden from 4 to 8PM, and Tuesday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 AM. Burial in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Calvary Baptist Church, Campership Fund, 262 Bee St. Meriden, CT 06450.

MERIDEN - Milton Albert Brizzie, 85, of 93 Hall Ave., died Thursday, June 24, 2004, at Meriden Nursing and Rehab Center. He was the husband for 50 years of the late Dorothy Saunders Brizzie.
Born in Meriden on Feb. 25, 1919, he was the son of the late Harvey G. and Lela Brusie Brizzie. He was a high school graduate and during World War II served with the U.S. Navy Seabees in the Fiji Islands and Bougainville. He was the owner of Brizzie's Texaco Gas Station and later worked as Parts Manager at Alderman Motors. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Spencer Pettison of Meriden; a grandson, Christopher Pettison of Meriden; a dear friend and companion for many years, Frances Wieloch; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Brizzie and a sister, Edith Jenkins.
Funeral service Monday, June 28, at 10 a.m. at the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. The Rev. Alden Barnes will officiate. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Brizzie's memory may be made to MidState VNA & Hospice, 658 Broad St., Meriden, CT 06450, or to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492.

Mrs Petryn was born June 15, 1900 a daughter of the late John & Agnes Mahelkevicz and was a nurse's assistant at the former Grace Hospital and the Hospital of St. Raphael.

Viola H. (Yasensky) Preisner, 95, died Friday, August 13, 2004, t the Glastonbury Health Care Center in Glastonbury. She was the widow of John L. Preisner, to whom she was married for 65 years. Viola was born July 21, 1909 in Wallingford, CT, a daughter of the late Stanislaus and Anastasia Yasensky, both born in Austria, and immigrated to the United States in 1885. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, a long time American Red Cross volunteer, a founding member of the Hamden Arts Council, a 50-year member of the New Haven Women's Club serving twice as President. She was on the original Board of Directors for the Orchestra New England, and had enjoyed their music for the past 30 years. She was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters, and is survived by her son Peter Preisner and his wife Mary; her grandchildren, John Preisner and his wife Tammy, and Laura (Preisner) Ryan and her husband Tim; two great grandsons Jeffrey Ryan and John Ryan, all of Glastonbury; and a large extended family, including many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden, Tues., Aug. 17, 2004 at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 2819 Whitney Avenue, Hamden, burial will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Wallingford. Her family will receive relatives and friends, Monday, August 16 from 4-8 p.m. Memorial Donations may be made in her name to Orchestra New England, 200123 Yale Station, New Haven, CT 06520-0123, or to New Haven Woman's Club Scholarship Fund, PO Box 6421, Hamden, CT 06517.
