MERIDEN - Whitney O. Gardiner, Sr., of Meriden, loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004 at the age of 78, after battling a lengthy illness. He was born in Meriden on June 12, 1925, the son of the late Orrin Addison and Eva Norrie Gardiner, lifelong residents of Meriden. He entered the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and served for four years aboard the U.S.S. Intrepid during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He proudly retired from the Meriden Fire Department as a Lieutenant after a 27-year career. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marie Staschke Gardiner; daughter Lynn Clark of Key West, FL; son Whitney O. Gardiner, Jr. of Meriden; granddaughter Lea Clark Gamez of Naples, FL; grandson Noel Gamez and his great-grandchildren, Noel, Jr. and Marina Gamez, all of Naples, FL.
At his request there will be no calling hours and burial will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the BEECHER & BENNETT FLATOW FUNERAL HOME, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden.

Betty Ann was born in New Haven, Dec. 27, 1932 a daughter of the late George and Ann Donalson Coe. She was a member of the Womens Club at the First United Methodist Church of West Haven and was a lifelong resident of West Haven.

Meriden - Beryl F. Lukasik, 84, formerly of 30 Dana Lane, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004 at the Regency House in Wallingford. She was the wife of the late Edward J. Lukasik Sr. She was born in Oakfield, Maine, November 7, 1919 a daughter of the late Carl and Fasnet Joy Moore. She belonged to the PTA at the Hanover School and the Ladies HEP Bowling League at the Colony Lanes in Wallingford. She was also a parishioner of Holy Angels Church, Meriden. She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Mary and Leon Cushman of South Meriden, Constance and William Bridges of Penobscot, ME, three sons; Leo (Carl) Peters of Rocky Hill, Francis and Mary Peters of Orange, CT and Edward Lukasik Jr. of Meriden, a brother, Dale Moore of Meriden, sixteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers Keith Moore and Andrian Moore and a sister Joyce Dow.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 24 at 10:00 a.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT FLATOW FUNERAL HOME, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Monday from 5-8 p.m.

MERIDEN - Donald L. Drapeau, 65, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at MidState Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Barbara Buehrle Drapeau. Born in Meriden on Jan. 15, 1939, he was the son of the late Raymond and Teresa Lakipo Drapeau. He was a graduate of Meriden High School and the University of New Haven and had been employed as an electrical engineer at Walbro until his retirement in 1996. After his retirement he was employed as church secretary at St. John Lutheran Church, where he was active in church affairs. He served in the U.S. Navy. He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Kamala A. and Carl Zemke and Kelly Drapeau, all of Meriden; a son, Donald L. Drapeau II of Meriden and a granddaughter, Kaylie Ann Zemke of Meriden.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004 at 10 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 520 Paddock Ave., Meriden. The Rev. David R. Brinkley and the Rev. Wallace Merdinyan will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery in the spring. Relatives and friends may call Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. North Haven - William Henry Holland. 75, loving husband of Barbara Pauk Holland of Sunset Rd., passed away suddenly Feb. 6, 2004. He was born in Saybrook, CT, June 21, 1928 a son of the late George and Anna Marie Lambertus Holland and had lived in North Haven since 1969. Mr. Holland was employed at the First National Stores as a meat cutter for 42 years before retirement in 1990. He served in the US Army as a sargeant during the Korean Conflict. Bill was a member of the Sleeping Giant Men's Golf Assoc. and enjoyed golf, trout fishing in the Housatonic River and he was a master wood craftsman. In addition to his wife he is survived by his sons, Paul Louis Merwin, and his wife Marianne, of North Haven, Michael Lawrence Merwin, and his wife Sandra, of Charlotte, NC, and William Peter Holland of North Haven, his six grandchildren, Kathleen, Melissa & Michele Merwin of North Haven, Luke, and Christopher & John Merwin of Charlotte, NC. Mr. Holland is also survived by his life long friends John & Margaret Taylor of Milford. He was predeceased by three brothers, Howard Jackle, George Jackle and Samuel Holland.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at 11 a.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. Burial with military honors in Mt. Chrystabelle Hall, 92, wife of the late Charles K. Hall passed away January 24, 2004, at St. Raphael's Hospital after a brief illness. Mrs. Hall was born in Nakoosa, WI, she moved to Florida in 1961, where she lived until moving to Connecticut in 1996. While in CT she enjoyed her activities at the Clelian Center of Hamden. She is survived by two daughters; Jill Ann Hall of North Haven and Kathryn Hall Brown of GA, a son, Dennis C. Hall of FL, 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Elsie B. O'Brien loving wife of Wesley J. O'Brien to whom she was married
for 68 years, of Fairy Glen Dr. North Haven passed away Thursday January 15, 2004 in the CT Hospice Branford after a brief illness . She was born in Montreal, Canada June 18, 1914 a daughter of the late Herbert Bruce and Molly Kinney Cassidy and resided in North Haven since 1953. Mrs. O'Brien was an active dedicated member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church of New Haven for 66 years, and was a graduate of the St. Raphael School of Nursing in 1934. Mother of Carol E. Smith of Wallingford, and her husband the late Lawrence G. Smith, Eileen O. Brown and her husband Charles E. Brown of North Haven, Andrea O. Connolly and her husband Joseph L. Connolly of North Haven, Wesley J. O'Brien Jr. and his wife Deborah H. Ward-O'Brien of North Haven. Grandmother of Jennifer Gargano, Jane Pieper, Christopher Connolly, Daniel Brown, Elizabeth Connolly, Rachel Kuczma, Cassidy O'Brien and the late Wesley James O'Brien III, also survived by 10 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by 2 sisters Eileen Beckwith and Gladys Neubieser, and two brothers Herbert Bruce Cassidy and Charles Cassidy.
Funeral service will be Monday January 19, at 11 AM at BEECHER & BENNETT 2300 Whitney Ave Hamden. Pastor William Dudgeon will officiate. In Cheshire, Jan. 29, 2004, Joseph Gordon Hanna of Elim Park Baptist Home, Cook Hill Rd., formerly of Apple Tree Ln., Hamden, husband of Josephine Everhart Hanna. Born in Warriors Mark, PA, May 23, 1921, a son of the late Joseph M. and Alverta M. Simpson Hanna. A graduate of Dickinson College, he was an Analytical Chemist at the Connecticut Agricultural Experimental Station before his retirement in 1984. A veteran of W.W. II, Gordan was a pilot in the Army Air Corp flying B 24's in the European Theater. He was a member of the American Chemical Society. Beside his wife he is survived by a daughter and her husband, Constance ad Stephen Warren of Storrs, CT, a son and his wife, Richard G. and Deborah Hanna of Storrs, CT and two grandchildren, Benjamin Hanna and Hannah Warren.

MERIDEN - Burton L. Dingwell, Jr., 83, of Meriden, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2004 at MidState Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Ruth E. Dingwell. Born in Meriden on June 18, 1920, he was the son of the late Burton L. and Hazel Buell Dingwell, Sr. He was a 1939 graduate of Meriden High School. Mr. Dingwell worked at New Departure and retired from the International Silver Company. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army Air Corps from Feb. 1942 until his discharge in Dec. 1945. He served in England, Normandy, France and the Rhineland in Germany. He was a supply sergeant with the 9th Air Force, 90th Supply Squadron, 322nd Bomb Group. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American T Campaign Ribbon, European AFR MET Campaign Ribbon and the WW II Victory Medal. He was a member of the South Meriden Trinity United Methodist Church for over 50 years, serving on many committees. He was also a member of the Antique Veterans of Meriden. Mr. Dingwell is survived by his son Thomas M. Fitzgibbons III and his wife, Daryl; three granddaughters, Melissa and Erica Gregory and Meghen Fitzgibbons; his sister, Elaine Quinn and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Kristen Dingwell; his grandson, Thomas M. Fitzgibbons IV; two brothers, Russell Dingwell and Calvin Dingwell; and a sister, Barbara Dingwell.
The funeral will be held Saturday, Jan. 24, at 10 a.m. at the South Meriden Trinity United Methodist Church, 145 Main St., South Meriden. The Rev. Susan DeSousa will officiate. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. In Madison, January 11, 2004, Walter Alonzo Hald of 155 New Rd. He was born in New Haven, January 10, 1910, a son of the late Frank X. and Josephine Merritt Hald. A veteran of the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corp. he served in the African - Middle Eastern area during WW II. Mr. Hald was the President of the Frank X. Hald Moving and Storage Co. and a partner in the Hald Realty Co. He was a life long member of St. Boniface Church. Mr. Hald is survived by a niece, Lauren Hald Chase McLaughlin of Port Richey, Fl. and a Grand nephew, William H. Millard of Boca Raton, Fl. He was predeceased by a brother, Lorenz A. Hald and a sister, Pauline Merritt Hald.
