MERIDEN - Lewis Robert DeGenaro, 56, of 148 Fowler Ave. Ext., died suddenly at his home on Wednesday, August 14, 2002. He was the husband of Patricia Parrington DeGenaro. Born in Floral Park, NY on Jan. 22, 1946, he was the son of the late Louis and Ruth Constantine DeGenaro. He was employed as a technical representative at VGC Graphic Arts Company and later as a cook at Foxwoods and ESPN. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and of the Elks Club and was in the U.S. Army. Besides his wife, he is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Philip Deignan and a niece Elizabeth Deignan, all of Rahway, New Jersey. He was predeceased by a sister, Nancy DeGenaro.
Memorial Service will be held Monday, Aug. 19, 2002 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Meriden with Rev. Eric Henderson officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, CT. If desired, contributions in Mr DeGenaro's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, So. Central Connecticut Chapter, 29ll Dixwell Ave., Suite 104, Hamden, CT 06518.

Tatta, of Sandisfield, MA formerly of West Haven, brother of Helen DiLeonardo of New Haven, Mary Hardt of West Haven, Dorothy Coombs of Meriden, and the late Joseph Tatta and Ben Tatta. A giving person, Frank was born in Brockton, MA on August 26, 1919 a son of the late Luigi and Rosa Carozza Tatta. He was a Sgt. serving in the U.S. Army Finance Corps. during WWII.
Funeral service will be Friday, Oct. 4, 2002 at 10 a.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT TAYLOR FUNERAL HOME, 410 Campbell Ave., West Haven. In New Haven, Sept. 5, 2002, Gloria Pepi Pascale, 79, of Choate Ave., Hamden, wife of Joseph Pascale, mother of Marie A. Pascale of Branford, twin sons, Joseph V. Pascale of East Haven and Robert J. Pascale of West Haven, and son Valentine John Pascale of Hamden. Born in Boston, MA, Aug. 26, 1923, a daughter of the late John and Marie Ann Sortino Pepi, she is sister to Franklin Pepi of Natick, MA, Robert Pepi of Framingham, MA, Linda Langraff of Chelsea, MA, and Ines Karen of Cambridge, MA. She is pre-deceased by brothers Joseph, Angelo and William Pepi and sister, Constance Haywatt. Mrs. Pascale is survived by 10 grandchildren.
Mrs. Pascale attended Boston Girls Latin School and was a Magna cum Laude Graduate of Simmons College in 1945 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health. At graduation she was awarded the prestigious Rockefeller Foundation Scholarship with full tuition and stipend to any graduate school within the United States. On this scholarship, she earned a Masters Degree in Public Health and Nutrition from the University of Tennessee. Mrs. Pascale toured the US and Europe before returning to Boston and accepting her first position with the VNA of Boston as a Family and Child Health and Nutrition Educator for the greater Boston communities. Mrs. Pascale later moved to the New Haven area in 1953 and was employed by the State of Connecticut’s Department of Public Health for four years before taking time from her career to raise her family in Hamden. With love and devotion she raised her four children with her husband. While a dedicated mother, homemaker and spouse, Mrs. Pascale served as a substitute teacher for the elementary grades in the Hamden School system, volunteered as a pollster at local, state and national elections, and worked with the National Census Bureaus. Mrs. Pascale returned to her professional practice in 1971 as an independent Clinical Consultant Dietitian for long-term care facilities throughout the New Haven area. Retiring in 1989, she supported community fund raisers for a variety of health and wellness related foundations and enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, whether in person or on the telephone, at her home in Hamden.
Funeral from BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden, Tues., Sept. 10 at 9:15 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Anthony Church, New Haven at 10 a.m. Interment in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. Friends may call Mon. from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 1004, Meriden, CT 06450.

In CT Hospice, Sept. 23, 2002, Charles "Punch" Humphrey, 74, husband of Dorothy Prehn Humphrey of Hubert St., West Haven, father of Linda Griffin and her husband, Leonard of Milford, Robert Humphrey of West Haven, Barbara Humphrey of Dennis, MA and Paul Humphrey and his wife Kim of Branford, grandfather of Amy and Bryan Griffin, Diane, Alyson and Adam Humphrey. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Edith Germond and Marion Kuziel and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother and five sisters. Charles was born in West Haven, Feb. 16, 1928, a son of the late George W. and LuLu Allen Humphrey, he served in the US Marine Corps from 1946-48. A graduate of Bryant College in Providence, he was president of The Humphrey Real Estate Agency of West Haven for 20 years, was past president of the New Haven Board of Realtors, West Haven Penalty Box Club and the West Haven Jaycees, member of Annawon Lodge #115 A.F. & A.M. of West Haven and the West Haven Rotary Club.
Funeral service will be Friday, Sept. 27 at 10 a.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT TAYLOR FUNERAL HOME, 410 Campbell Ave., West Haven. Friends may call Thurs. from 4 - 8 p.m. Interment in Oak Grove Cemetery, West Haven. Elmer Stanley Fredericksen, 79, of Phelps Dr., Hamden passed away Monday. Sept. 9, 2002 in West Haven after a brief illness. He was born in New Haven, March 20, 1923 a son of the late Elias and Magdalene Larsen Fredericksen and had resided in Hamden all of his life. He was employed by the Home Insurance Co. of North Haven for 25 years, retiring in 1982. He was a sergeant in the US Army Air Force during WW II from 1941 to 1945. Mr. Fredericksen was a member of the American Legion Post # 71 of West Haven and had served two terms as Commander and other staff positions. He is survived by a sister Nancy M. Fredericksen of Hamden, with whom he resided, and was predeceased by a brother Edward L. Fredericksen.
Funeral service will be Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002 at 1 p.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Friends may call prior to the service from 12 to 1 p.m. Burial with military honors in Beaverdale Memorial Park.

In Branford, September 20, 2002, Henry Jules Gautot, 83, of James St, Hamden. Predeceased by his wife Suzanne Lamarque Gautot and his first wife, Simone Gautot. Father of Dominique Ford of Myrtle Beach, SC, Catherine Gautot of Hamden, Al Gautot of Clinton and Philippe Gautot of Putney, VT, brother of Jean Pierre Gautot and Martine Gautot both of Brussels, also survived by 9 granchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Mr. Gautot was born in St. Jean Capferrat, France, March 13, 1919, son of Dr. Adelin and Malvine Goosens Gautot. He lived in Belguim most of his life. A Veteran of WW II served with the British and Belguim Army, becoming a prisoner-of-war. In 1961 he came to New Haven and was the Coordinator of the Radiology programs at South Central Community College and was employed by Yale New Haven Hospital.
Funeral service will be held at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden, Monday, September 23 at 1:00 P.M. Burial will be in Alderbrook Cemetery, Guilford.

Hamden - Einar Erickson, 97, of 75 Washington Ave., husband of the late Frances Wiese Erickson passed away Sept. 9, 2002. He was born in Lysvik Varmland, Sweden a son of the late Erik and Mathilda Olsson Larsson. Mr. Erickson was employed at Winchester Repeating Arms Co. as a tool maker for 36 years, retiring in 1971 and a member of the Diana Birger Jarl # 3, VASA Order of America. He is survived by three daughters, Frances E. Connelly of Hamden, Ellen E. Starbranch and her husband Charles of Virginia Beach, VA, Evelene E. Marquardt and her husband Carl of Woodland Park, CO, a son, Gunnar F. Erickson and his wife Sandra of Edgewater, FL, two sisters, Hilma Martinson of Denver, CO, Lilly Hultgren, of Sweden, 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Matilda "Tillie" Simmons, two sisters, Emma Nordstrom, Anna Ericsson and two brothers, Gunnar and Olov Ericsson.
Funeral service will be held Thursday evening Sept. 12 at 7:30 at BEECHER & BENNETT, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden. Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Bethesda Lutheran Church, 305 St. Ronan St., New Haven, CT 06511.

MERIDEN - Donald E. Winkel, 84, of 545 So. Curtis St., died Wednesday, October 2, 2002, in Chicago, IL. He was the husband of the late Frances Hayes Winkel. Born in Meriden on May 29, 1918, he was the son of the late Ernest A. and Catherine Flagg Winkel and was employed as a tool maker at New Departure. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Elks Club.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Gary Fredericks of Middletown; two sons and daughters-in-law, Sherwood W. and Dorothy Winkel of Chicago, IL and David H. and Doreen Winkel of Middletown; five grandchildren, Debra Winkel Burns and Karin Winkel Wethington, both of Illinois, and Justin Winkel, Jessica Winkel and Alison Fredericks, all of Middletown; five great-grandchildren and a beloved friend, Lois Bradley, formerly of Meriden and now of Largo FL. He was predeceased by a sister and two brothers, Frances Winkel Purcell, Norris Winkel and Wayne Winkel.
The funeral will be held Monday at 9 a.m. at the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. The Rev. Perry L. Beaver and the Rev. Maureen Hawksley will officiate. Frank Randolph Corkin, Jr.

MERIDEN - Frank Randolph Corkin, Jr., 87, of 92 Lydale Place, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, after a lengthy illness. Born in Bridgeport on Sept. 19, 1915, he was the son of the late Frances Beebe Corkin and Frank Randolph Corkin, Sr. He attended local schools and graduated from Meriden High School, Class of 1933 and from St. Lawrence University in 1937, where he was President of his class. Soon after the outbreak of World War II, he enlisted in the Navy and was sent to Midshipman School at Columbia University, where he was commissioned an Ensign and assigned to the destroyer USS Ellet for active duty in the Pacific. After three years in the Pacific he returned to the States as a radar instructor in Georgia. After his discharge with the rank of lieutenant, he returned to Meriden and joined the staff of the Meriden Journal, later becoming Sports Editor of the Record-Journal with a daily column called Frankly Speaking. In 1956 he left the paper to join the staff of the Middlesex Memorial Hospital from which, after over 35 years, he retired as Vice President of Human Resources. He was a member of St. Andrew Episcopal Church, a 50-year member of Center Lodge No. 97 A.F.&A.M.; and a former member of the Wallingford Country Club. Frank was widely known for his accomplishments as an official in both baseball and basketball. As a basketball official he worked with the American Basketball League, the Eastern League and the Eastern Collegiate Conference. Over the years Frank received many honors including the Meriden Citizen of the Year, Wilcox Tech Outstanding Citizen Award in l977, the Sportsman of Distinction Award in 1986 and the Art McGinley Award by the Connecticut Sports Writers. He was inducted into the Meriden Hall of Fame in 1957 and the Boys Club Hall of Fame. He was the author of Pacific Postmark, his recollection of his services during World War II and in 1987 he received the Outstanding Alumni Citation from St. Lawrence University.
Frank is survived by his sister, Natalie A. Corkin of Meriden and several cousins.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew Episcopal Church, 20 Catlin St., Meriden. The Rev. Jane Hassler-White will officiate. Burial will be in the family plot in Pine Grove Cemetery in Middletown. There are no calling hours. If desired, contributions in Frank's memory may be made to the Meriden Boys and Girls Club, 15 Lincoln St., Meriden, CT 06451. Arrangements under the direction of BEECHER & BENNETT FLATOW FUNEAL HOME, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden.

MERIDEN - Ruth Violet Cyphers, 99, of 320 Colony St., died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at the Bradley Home. She was the wife of the late Harold L. Cyphers, Sr. Born in Meriden, August 7, 1903, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Emma Swanson Anderson. She was a lifelong resident of Meriden and was a member of St. Andrew Episcopal Church.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Walter Ligas of Killingworth; a son and daughter-in-law, Harold L. and Fernande Cyphers, Jr. of Prospect; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and step-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Helma Lisee and Esther Davis and three brothers, Algot Anderson, Clarence Anderson and Harold Anderson.
The funeral will be held Wed. Sept. 18, 2002 at 10 a.m. at the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. The Rev. Anne Jensen will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the service.
