William A. Anderson, age 84, of Meriden, Conn., died Saturday, August 3, 2002, at Masonic Geriatric Health Care Center in Wallingford, Conn. He was a member of St Rose Church, Meriden. He was also a member of Meriden Kiwanis Club, Elks Club, United Way. He is survived by his wife Catherine Anderson; Three Sons,

Funeral service will be at St Rose Church, at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 6, 2002. Interment will be at St Joseph's Cemetery in Bristol, Conn.

WALLINGFORD -- Lois L. McLaughlin, 83, of 47 Heritage Woods, died July 5, 2002 and is now with her heavenly father. She was the wife of the late Clifford McLaughlin Sr. She was born in Springfield, ME, March 4, 1919, a daughter of the late Torry and Ada Boyington Merrill. She was a member of the Center Congregational Church in Meriden. She was devoted to her family and is survived by two daughters, Jacklyn Krampitz of Wallingford and Caroline Anderson of Waymart, PA; a daughter-in-law, Judyann Wilkerson of Lake City, FL; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Becky McLaughlin of Virginia Beach, VA, Ronald and Josie McLaughlin of Kensington; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Jean Merrill of Danielson, Roderick Merrill of Roy, Utah, Russell and Char Merrill of Fort Meyers Beach, FL, Clifford and Jan Merrill of Fort Collins, CO; two sisters, Noreen and her husband, Larry Elliot of Sun City Center, FL, Gladys Leighton of Charlotte, NC; a sister-in-law, Juanita Dill of Lincoln, ME; 21 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three step grandchildren; two great-step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many loving friends. She was predeceased by two sons, Clifford McLaughlin Jr. and John McLaughlin; a brother, Harry Merrill; and four sisters, Dorothy Abt, Louise Pregue, Norma Greiner and Evelyn Locastro.
A private burial will take place in Carroll, Maine at the convenience of the family. May she rest in peace. Contributions may be made to the VNA at MidState VNA and Hospice, 658 Broad St., Meriden, CT 06450. The Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden is in charge of arrangements.

At his home, August 1, 2002, Harry W. Annis Jr., 76, husband of Gloria Puglisi of 10 Evergreen Dr., North Branford, father of Scott W. Annis of Wolcott and Steven Annis of Hamden. Also survived by 2 grandchildren Marshall and Emily Annis. He was predeceased by sisters Norma and Eunice. He was born in New Haven, August 7, 1925 son of the late Harry W. and Aldina Borghi Annis Sr., he was a WW II Army Veteran. He was owner of Annis Carpet Service and a former member of the Wallingford Country Club.

Branford - Marilyn Bogart Chamberlain, 59, wife of George W. Chamberlain, passed away Wed. July 3, 2002 after a brief illness. She was born in New Haven, Sept. 21, 1942, a daughter of Lucy Connellan Bogart of New Haven and the late Louis Bogart and had lived in Branford since 1974. Mrs. Chamberlain was emplyed by the Yale Press for 22 years retiring in 2001. Beside her husband she is survived by a daughter; Christine Sambor of Middlefield, CT, two sons; George W. Chamberlain, Jr. and William P. Chamberlain, both of Branford, CT, two sisters; Jean Pope of New Haven and Nancy Rohinski, N.Y.C. and 4 grandchildren.

William J. McLean of Hamden died at CT. Hospice on July 20, 2002. He was the loving and devoted husband of Jennie S. McLean and is survived by his children, Suzette and Brian and predeceased by a son Sean. He is also survived by his loving step-children, Leonard Matteo, Jr. and his wife Catherine, of Hamden, Gerald E. Matteo of Santa Barbara, CA, Jill Robinson and her husband William of Hamden and Stephen Matteo and his wife Tina of Palm Bay, FL and all his loving grandchildren. He also leaves two brothers, John McLean of Guilford, Robert McLean of FL, a sister, Mary Ellen Landino of Branford, along with his loving nieces and nephews. Mr. McLean was born on Jan. 27, 1934 a son of the late John and Philomena Bontatibus McLean formerly of Branford and was employed as a real estate agent. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Hamden B.P.O.E. Lodge #2224.

Spencer S. Colwell, 82, of Elim Park Place, Cheshire, formerly of Hamden, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002. He was the widower of Emogene Sigsbee Colwell and the son of the late Dr. Howard S. and Mary S. Colwell of New Haven. He leaves a son, Steven S. Colwell, and daughter-in-law, Susan N. Colwell, of Harvard, MA; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Colwell Koehler, and son-in-law, Alan G. Koehler, of Fripp Island, SC; and a son, Attorney William S. Colwell, and daughter-in-law, Deborah McDonnell Colwell, of Cheshire. He also leaves a sister, Elizabeth C. Kessler, of Salisbury, MD, widow of Edward H. Kessler; a sister-in-law, Mary C. Colwell, of Hamden; and seven grandchildren: Abigail N. Colwell, of Lexington, MA; Charles S. Colwell, of Harvard, MA; Robert C. Wolfe, of Washington, D.C.; Caroline W. Benton, of Salisbury, NC; Hamilton S. Colwell, of Edgartown, MA; Christian M. Colwell, of Cheshire; and Caitlin S. Colwell, of Cheshire. He was predeceased by a brother, Dr. Bradford S. Colwell, of North Haven, and a sister, Eleanor C. Oneil, of Lancaster, PA, widow of Robert S. Oneil.
Spence was born in New Haven on August 14, 1919, and was a graduate of Hillhouse High School, Deerfield Academy and Colgate University. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He retired from the Southern New England Telephone Company after 33 years of service as a supervisor in the Rates and Tariffs Department.
He was a lifelong member of Church of the Redeemer, New Haven, and served on the Board of Deacons, Board of Trustees and other committees. He was the long-term Secretary of the City Missionary Association. He volunteered with F.I.S.H. of Greater New Haven and was the baseball coach for many years of the Beecher and Bennett Pee-Wee baseball team of the Hamden Fathers Baseball Association. He was a member of the High Lane Club in Hamden and the Graduate Club in New Haven. Spence was his class representative for the Colgate alumni magazine and he received the coveted Maroon Citation from Colgate in 1996. In addition, he received the Jack Mitchell Loyalty Award from the Colgate football association and the Silver Puck Award from the Colgate men's hockey association. He was also named an honorary member of the Colgate women's soccer team. He served as the President of the Colgate Club of New Haven for many years.

Kenneth J. Reuben, 84, died suddenly, July 17, 2002 at his home, Whitney Center, 200 Leeder Hill Dr., Hamden, husband of the late Betty Briggs Reuben. He is survived by a cousin, Margaret Reith of Mechanicsburg, PA. He was a licensed electrician and retired from Picker Corp. He served three years in the U.S. Army in Whittier, AK during WW II. He was an avid railroad enthusiast, collected American Flyer trains and kept current with Alaska Railroad activities via the internet. He had been active with the Branford Trolley Museum.

Kathryn Elizabeth McDonald, 63, of Paramount Ave. Hamden, passed away July 9, 2002 after as long illness. She was born in Jersey Shore, PA, January 29, 1939 a daughter of the late Stewart and Margaret Smith Luther and had lived in West Haven from 1969 until moving to Hamden in 1994. She was employed as a technician with the Xerox Corp. for 15 years and later worked at Connecticut Handy Van.
She is survived by her sons; Robert C. Moore of Hamden, Kenneth Moore of New Britain, Mark Moore of NYC, Greg Moore of Wallingford, and James McDonald of Hamden; a sister Jane Luther of Jersey Shore, PA and two brothers, Steve Luther of Lemour, CA and Robbie Luther of Los Angeles, CA and seven grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister Peg Luther.

Bethany - Frank E. Wooster, 87, loving husband of 54 years to Mary Hands Wooster of Carrington Rd., passed away Wednesday July 17, 2002 in WH VAMC. Father of William Dils and his wife Lorna Dils of Hamden, brother of Charlotte Trumbley of Bethany, Barbara Johnson of Sharon, CT, brother-in-law of Lydia Wooster of Bethany, grandfather of Blair Dils and his wife Jessica Dils of Williamstown, MA and Rob Dils and his wife Hope Dils of Troy, NY also survived by 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother George O. Wooster. Mr. Wooster was employed as a service manager at the Page Motor Co. of Milford for over 40 years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church of Bethany, VFW Post # 2448 of Bethany, a 35 year member of Compass Lodge # 9 A.F. & A. M. of Wallingford, the Ansonia Rod & Gun Club, Bethany Senior Citizens and the Planning and Building Committee for Veterans Memorial Park of Bethany. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II with the 110th Infantry, 28th Division, G. Co. in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe.
A Memorial Service will be held in the Christ Episcopal Church, Amity Rd., Bethany Monday, July 22 at 1 p.m. Rev. Peter Stebinger will officiate. WALLINGFORD - Norman Alfred Duke, 79, of Highland Ave., died Sunday, July 7, 2002 at the MidState Medical Center. He was the husband of Edna Hintz Duke for 52 years. He was born in Meriden, April 29, 1923, a son of the late Thomas and Lenna Bruenn Duke. He served with the 29th Engineers in the Army during World War II in the Philippines. He held a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering from Yale University. He retired in 1983 as Vice President of Manufacturing at CHR Industries in New Haven. He had been a charter member of the Gardeners of Greater New Haven, and served as Treasurer, he was Treasurer of the Meriden Wallingford Yale Club. He was an associate member of the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Meriden.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jonathon and Lisa Duke of Needham, MA and a grandson, Tobias Alfred Duke of Needham, MA. He was predeceased by a brother, William Duke.
A funeral service will be held Friday, July 12, at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church. The Rev. David R. Brinkley will officiate. Burial will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden or at the church one hour prior to the service.
