Alphonso Bryant

The Curvin K. Council Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for Alphonso Bryant, 47, of Meloy Road, who died Nov. 14, 2003. He is the son of Marian Graham Bryant.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by sisters, Elaine and Dorinda Bryant, and Sybrina Kay; brothers, Marvin, James, Michael and Norward Bryant. A service was held at Trinity Temple Church in Hamden. Burial was in Hamden Plains Cemetery.

Mary Festa

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Assumption Church for Mary R. Festa, 79, who died Nov. 19, 2003. She was the widow of Alexander J. Festa.

She is survived by a daughter, Kathleen M. Dittmann of Woodbridge; a son, Lawrence H. Festa of West Haven; a sister, Ann Spadoni of Orange; a brother, John Bartozzi of North Haven; and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Bartozzi.

Burial was in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, New Haven. The West Haven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Allena Conable

The West Haven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for Allena Hubbard Conable, 68, who died Nov. 17, 2003. She was the wife of Charles D. Conable Sr.

She is survived by daughters, Debbie Johnstone and Bonnie Muir of West Haven; sons, Charles D. Conable, Jr. of Wallingford and David Conable of Southington; a sister, Audrey Mack of West Haven; brothers, James & Harry Hubbard of West Haven, David Hubbard of CA and Dan Hubbard in NH; and five grandchildren. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to New Life Church, 255 Jones Hill Rd., West Haven 06516 c/o Missions.

Kendrick Alling

Private services were held for Kendrick W. Alling, 79, of 30 Barbara Lane, who died Nov. 20, 2003. He was the husband of Sonia Adamovich Alling.

He is survived by a daughter, Priscilla Reising of FL, Holly Pageau of FL and Robin Roseman of Northford; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Alling, Jr. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp.

Donations may be made to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford 06405. The Oak Grove Cremation Service was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Kosinski

The Oak Grove Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements for Mary Gunterman Kosinski, who died Nov. 9, 2003.

She is survived by sons, James Kosinski of NY, and Stephen Kosinski of WA; daughters, Jane Bon Tempo of Branford, Margaret Hughes of Naugatuck and Mary Lynn Fernino of West Haven; and siblings, Joseph and Margaret Gunterman, Frances Stuart and Barbara Capozzi; and several grand and great-grandchildren.

James Sullivan

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Lawrence Church for James H. Sullivan, 81, of 135 May St, who died Nov. 20, 2003. He was the husband of Rose Iannone Sullivan.

He is survived by a daughter, Lynda Mierzejewski; a son, Jay Sullivan; a sister, Rita Francoeur; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by brothers, Christopher, Joseph & Daniel Sullivan. He had received the award for West Haven Irish American Man of the Year. He was a Navy veteran of WWII.

Memorial gifts may be made to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford 06405. Interment with full military honors was in St. Lawrence Cemetery. The Porto Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jean Sorenson

The West Haven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for Jean Marjorie Sorenson, 71, who died Nov. 24, 2003. She was the wife of Robert W. Sorenson.

She is survived by a daughter, Nancy Setaro and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by brothers, Joseph, Leroy and Donald McDaniel.

Donations may be made to CT Hospice Home Care, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford CT 96495 or Polycystic Kidney Foundation, 4901 Main St., Suite 200, Kansas City, MO 64112-2634. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Brendan Donahue, former American Legion baseball coach
Brendan W. Donahue, 78, of Simsbury, died Jan. 21with his loving wife Julia (Carbone) Donahue by his side.
He was born June 11, 1927 in Southington, one of 13 children to Thomas F. and Agnes (Callahan) Donahue. He was a veteran of WWII, serving with the US Navy aboard the USS New Jersey. He retired from New Departure Hyatt, a Division of General Motors in 1982 after 34 years of service. He was a life long member of the Elks and the American Legion.
Throughout his life, he was a talented athlete and coach for several local teams. The highlight of his coaching career was winning the state championship while coaching the Southington American Legion Baseball Team. He was truly a competitive athlete in any sport he played.He was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Church of Simsbury and St. Thomas Church of Southington.
His greatest pride and joy in his life was his family.
Besides his wife Julia of 55 years, he is survived by 8 children, four daughters, Paula Gold of Watertown, Felice Donahue of Simsbury, Lisa Phaneuf of Plainville and Mary Rydingsward of Bristol; four sons, Michael of Punta Gorda, FL, Brian of Torrington, Thomas of St. Augustine, FL and John of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; He was known as “Pops” to his 10 grandchildren, Jordan, Jana, Marc, Kelly, Conor, Rich, Brittany, Brendan, Julia and B. Clayton, also 3 great-grandchildren, Wil, Julianna and Giovanna.
The funeral was held Jan. 25 at St. Thomas Church.
Burial with military honors was in St. Thomas Cemetery. Delle Vecchia Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Donations may be made to the Farmington Valley VNA, 8 Old Mill Lane, Simsbury, CT 06070

Roger Banville, served with U.S. Army in Korean War
Roger J. Banville, 77, of Berlin Ave., Southington died Jan. 18 at the Alzheimer’s Resource Center in Plantsville. He was the beloved husband of Joan (Plourde) Banville of Southington.
He was born in Baker Lake, New Brunswick, Canada on July 18, 1928, and was the son of the late Claude and Alma (Nadeau) Banville. He was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Army. Prior to his illness, he was CEO of The Prowler Tire Corp. of Guilford, and had been employed by the Armstrong Rubber Company for the preceding 20 years.
Besides his wife Joan, he is survived by his children, Paul Andrew and his wife, Susan McIntosh Banville of Hartford, Michelle Marie Banville of Middletown and Roger Arthur Banville of Phoenix, AZ; two grandsons, Scott and Christopher Banville; a twin sister, Rajean (Banville) Chasse of Cheshire; two brothers, Guy Banville of Coral Gables, FL and Jean Claude Banville of Southington, and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at the Alzheimer’s Resource Center for their loving care and support.
The funeral was held on Jan. 21 at St. Dominic Church. Burial with military honors was in Oak Hill Cemetery immediately following the service. The Della Vecchia Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Clara Coppola, was parishioner of St. Thomas Church
Clara (Venditto) Coppola, 92, of 65 Eden Ave., Southington, died Jan. 18 at home. She was the wife of the late Peter Coppola.
She was born April 5, 1913, daughter of the late Joseph and Carmella Venditto. She was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church, a member and past president of the St. Thomas Altar Society, a member of the Pocahontas and the Southington Woman’s Club.
She is survived by a son-in-law, Paul Borse of Southington; a sister, Antoinette Mazzaccaro of Southington and a grandson Mark Borse. She was predeceased by a daughter, Joan Borse; a sister, Alice DeCarlo; four brothers, Thomas, Benjamin, Edward and Raymond Venditto.
The funeral was held Jan. 21 at St. Thomas Church. Burial was in St. Thomas Cemetery. Della Vecchia Funeral Home handled the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Assoc., 2572 Whitney Ave., Hamden, CT 06518-3027 or St. Jude Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Doris Hamel, was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church
Doris I. Hamel, 82, formerly of 57 Diana Road, Plantsville, died Jan. 19 at Hospital for Special Care in New Britain. She was the wife of the late Henry Hamel.
Born in Sanbornton, N.H. on July 9, 1923, the daughter of the late Joseph and Adelaide (Leblanc) Fortier. She was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church. She was an avid card player and enjoyed crocheting.
She is survived by two sons, Gary A. Hamel and his wife Diane of Southington, and Raymond H. Hamel and his wife Dorothy of Plainville; six grandchildren, Lori Markie, Renee Brady, Glen Hamel, Kelly Martino, Chrissy Hamel, and Jamie Hamel; four great-grandchildren, Matthew and Justin Markie, Kirstie and Patrick Brady, her best friend Ruth Smith and her dog and companion Teddy.
The funeral was held Jan. 23 at St. Thomas Church. Burial was in St. Thomas Cemetery. Della Vecchia Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105

Elaine Matta, worked for Connecticut Community Care, Inc.
Elaine (Zesut) Matta, 67, of West Center St., Southington, departed from this world on Jan. 21 at Bradley Memorial Hospital. She was the wife and best friend of Michael Matta Sr.
Born in New Britain on Nov. 22, 1938, she was the daughter of the late William and Sophie Zesut.
She was an Alumna of N.B. High School, T.C.C., and C.C.S.U. She had been employed as an accounting manager with Connecticut Community Care Inc. since 1980.
She leaves to cherish in her memory two sons and one daughter and their spouses Michael Matta Jr. of Bristol, Mark and Donna Matta of Southington, and Katheryne and Douglas Daniel of Columbia City, IN; 4 precious grandsons, Matthew and Zachary Daniel of Indiana and Hunter and Brandon Matta of Southington.
Additionally, she leaves three special sister-in-laws, Jeanne Zesut, Ann Matta and Carol Zesut, six nieces and a favorite nephew as well as several special cousins and many great friends. She was predeceased by a brother, William Zesut.
The funeral was held Jan. 25 at St. Dominic Church. Burial was in St. Thomas Cemetery. Della Vecchia Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Connecticut Community Care Inc, 43 Enterprise Dr. Bristol, CT. 06010.

John Bonomi Jr.
August 16, 1962 - April 16, 2011
Meriden - John Bonomi Jr., 48, of South Main St. passed away Saturday, April 16, 2011 as a result of an automobile accident.
He was born August 16, 1962 son of John Bonomi Sr. of Southington and Marie (Rossi) Bonomi of Southington.
Besides his parents he leaves a son Jonathan Bonomi of Meriden and a daughter Tiffany, a sister Tammy LaTino of Bristol and a niece Corrie Bonomi and a nephew Joseph LaTino.
The Funeral Service will be Wednesday 11:30 a.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington. Calling hours will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
