GRUBER
Claire M. (McDonald) Gruber, 71, of Woodland Street, Windsor Locks, wife of the late Edward A. Gruber who died in 1984, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford.
Claire was born in the Bronx, N.Y., and had lived in Windsor Locks for 43 years. She had been employed by John Sasportas Builders and worked in the customs department at Bradley International Airport.
She is survived by her children, Donna M. Gruber at home, and Michael E. Gruber and his wife, Debbie, of Somers; and a brother, James R. McDonald and his wife, Joan, of New Paltz, N.Y.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, June 3, at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St., Windsor Locks, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church, Windsor Locks. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Windsor Locks.
Her family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 2, at the funeral home.

VonDECK
William E. VonDeck, 68, of Orlando, Fla., died suddenly Monday, May 29, 2000, in Orlando.
He was born in Manchester, Aug. 2, 1931, son of the late John L. VonDeck Sr. and Irene (Brown) VonDeck. Bill was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict and a member of the American Legion. He was very active in the Boy Scouts of America, and received the Silver Beaver Award.
He leaves a stepmother, Phyllis VonDeck of Manchester; his wife, Karin; three sons, Eric W. of Chicago, and Brett and Gary of Connecticut; a brother, John of South Carolina; and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by a twin brother, Robert.
The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at Watkins Funeral Home, 142 E. Center St., Manchester. Burial will follow in Quarryville Cemetery, Bolton.
Friends and family may call from 2 p.m. until the time of service Saturday, June 3, at the funeral home.

ARMSTRONG
Ralph Pershing Armstrong, 81, of Manchester, beloved husband of V. Esther (Hastings) Armstrong, died Monday, May 22, 2000, at a local convalescent home.
Born in Valley Bend, W. Va., May 19, 1919, son of the late Lester and Anna (McGee) Armstrong, he was raised in West Virginia and had been a resident of Manchester since 1955, previously living in Hartford. Ralph was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Alaskan Defense Command. He also served in the Caribbean Defense Command during the Korean conflict. Prior to retiring in 1985, he was employed by United Technologies for more than 30 years. Ralph was an active member of the Second Congregational Church in Manchester and was an avid gardener.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen Armstrong and Monica Floryan of South Windsor; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Ronald McIntosh of Westport; five grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, and Kelly McIntosh, and Emily and Hannah Armstrong; two sisters, Lillian Phares and Jessie Shipman, both of Mill Creek, W. Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ralph was predeceased by two brothers, Oren and Roy Armstrong, and two sisters, Eleanor Cuerence and Marie Tetrick.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 25, at the Watkins Funeral Home, 142 E. Center St., Manchester. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill.
Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, at the funeral home.

BRETON
Joseph H. "Roger" Breton, 87, of Manchester, the husband of the late Sophie (Price) Breton, died in the Lord, Sunday, May 21, 2000.
Mr. Breton was born in New Bedford, Mass. He served in the Connecticut National Guard from 1932 to 1938. He lived in Manchester most of his life and was a member of the Senior Center and Manchester Square Dance Club. He retired from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as a certified inspector.
Roger is survived by two nieces, Doris Johnson of Manchester, and June Breton of Ellington; two nephews, Dr. J. R. Breton of Walpole, Mass., and J. Albert Breton Jr. of Ellington; a grandniece, and several grandnephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Joseph A. and J. Albert Breton.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, with a Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of the Assumption, Manchester. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery, Manchester.
There are no calling hours.

HALL
Lyman H. Hall Sr., 83, of Enfield, formerly of East Longmeadow, Mass., died Sunday, May 21, 2000, at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield.
Born in East Longmeadow, he was a graduate of Lake Orion High School in Michigan and the American International College in Springfield. He was an experimental grinder at Pratt & Whitney Co. in East Hartford for 26 years and retired in 1983. Earlier, he was owner/operator of the former Hall Machine in Chicopee, Mass., and had worked for Perkins Machine & Gear Co. in West Springfield for 31 years as a machinist and second shift superintendent. He was a member of St. Michael Roman Catholic Church of East Longmeadow. His wife, the former Ruth Underwood, predeceased him in 1969.
He is survived by two sons, Lyman H. Hall Jr. of East Hartford, and Kenneth J. Hall Sr. of Westfield, Mass.; two daughters, Patricia K. Graham of East Longmeadow, and Garnett E. Tierney of Enfield; 15 grandchildren; 16 great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two other daughters, Ruth Ann O'Dell and Karen M. Cote.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, from the Forastiere Smith Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., East Longmeadow, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, East Longmeadow.
A calling hour will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, at the funeral home.

MARSH
Jared R. Marsh, 29, of Coventry, died Saturday, May 20, 2000.
Born in Manchester, and a longtime resident of Coventry, Jared was a master- level woodworker, artisan, and builder throughout eastern Connecticut.
He is the father of Jed Robert Marsh, age 5 months, beloved of Jacqueline Mitchell, and stepfather to Jed's siblings, Jacob, Deanna, and John, all of Coventry.
Son of Janice Jacobs Mailhot and stepson of Ronald M. Mailhot of Coventry, and eldest son of the late Robert P. Marsh of New York City, Jared leaves his sister and brother-in-law, Heather and Jason Freedman of Westminster West, Vermont; his brother, sister-in-law, and nephew, Casey, Andrea, and Colin Marsh of Palm Bay, Fla.; brother, Jeremy A. Marsh of Coventry; sister, Sarah Marsh of East Granby; and stepmother, Denise Millette of Coventry. He also leaves his paternal grandmother, Lillian Coderre Marsh of Manchester; and many dear friends and families.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, at Patriot's Park Lodge, Cross Street, Coventry, until 3 p.m.

RUSTIK
Isabel A. (Kupchunos) Rustik, 85, of South Windsor, wife of the late John A. Rustik, died Sunday, May 21, 2000, at Hartford Hospital.
Mrs. Rustik was born March 25, 1915, in Hartford, daughter of the late William V. and Margaret (Baltulonis) Kupchunos, and had been a lifelong resident of South Windsor. She was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church in South Windsor, a member of the St. Francis Ladies Guild, the Senior Citizens Club of South Windsor, and was a volunteer at the South Windsor Recreational Center.
Mrs. Rustik is survived by a daughter, Linda Lennon and her husband, Richard, of Essex; a son, James J. Rustik and his wife, Judy, of Kent, Wash.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers; two sisters; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 25, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 673 Ellington Road, South Windsor. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery, Manchester.
There are no calling hours.

SWOLS
Alice A. (Cierpial) Swols, 77, of Park Hill, Broad Brook section of East Windsor, widow of Chester F. Swols, died Sunday, May 21, 2000, at Johnson Memorial Hospital, Stafford Springs.
Born in Chicopee, Mass., Alice was a former resident of Enfield and Rockville, and lived in Ellington from 1968 to 1994. She was co-owner, with her late husband, of the Windsorville General Store, the Rockville Scrap Iron Co., and the family farm in Enfield, retiring in 1981. Alice was a member of AARP.
She is survived by five daughters, Elaine Miarecki and her husband, Raymond, of Enfield, Cynthia and Donna Swols, both of Suffield, Cecelia Ciechowski of Enfield, and Deborah Duffy and her husband, Joseph, of Somers; and seven grandchildren, John, Karen, Theresa, and Jennifer Miarecki, and Michael, David, and Matthew Ciechowski and their father, James Ciechowski, of Enfield.
A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 25, at the Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Adalbert Church, 90 Alden Ave., Enfield.
Burial will be in St. Adalbert Cemetery, Enfield.
Alice's family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, at the funeral home.

WALKER
George G. Walker Jr., 82, of Manchester, husband of Elizabeth (Parcher) Walker, died Monday, May 22, 2000, at his home.
He was born April 9, 1918, in Sharon, Pa., son of the late George G. and Myrtle (Blinn) Walker Sr., and had been a resident of Manchester since 1941. Mr. Walker retired as an engineer after more than 30 years with Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks. He was a member of the Center Congregational Church in Manchester and the Manchester Historical Society.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three children, George G. Walker III and his wife, Lynette, of Simsbury, Susan (Walker) Coker of Denver, Kenneth A. Walker and his wife, Ruth, of Towson, Md.; his brother, John Walker of Vienna, Va.; two sisters, Carolyn Shoup of Largo, Fla., and Myrtle W. Walls of Huffman, Texas; five grandchildren, Lucy, Robert, Kenneth, Gregory, and Daniel; his sister-in-law, Margaret Walker of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Frank Walker.
Funeral services and burial will be private in the East Cemetery, Manchester.
Mr. Walker's family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester.
