BARTLETT
Robert Leroy Bartlett Jr., 73, of Midway, Ark., formerly of Tolland, died Sunday, April 30, 2000.
He was born in Massachusetts, Jan. 4, 1927, the son of the late Robert and Margaret Bartlett Sr. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a retired truck driver and former owner of the Carousel Motel of Lake View, Ark. He was an avid motorcyclist and woodworker.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Janet (Colella) Bartlett; two children and their spouses, Robert Leroy III and Alice Bartlett of Pennsylvania, and Nancy and Tracey Collier of Stafford Springs; seven grandchildren, Alf, Wendy, Corinne, Kristen, and Robert IV Bartlett of Pennsylvania, and Ryan and Kaitlyn Collier of Stafford Springs; two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Jodielyn of Penn- sylvania; three close cousins, Wendy and Jim Hervey of Florida, Fredrick and Deborah Crocker of Pennsylvania, and Lynn Johnson of Bristol.
A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, May 20, at the First United Methodist Church, Church Street, Stafford Springs.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
BOYD
Barry Boyd, 39, of Manchester, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at Norwalk Hospital after a long illness.
He was born to the late Dorothy Boyd and Jake Keels on Aug. 28, 1960, in Norwalk.
He is survived by his children, Barry Boyd Jr. and Candice Boyd of Jacksonville, Fla., and Shyla Boyd-Bator; his stepson, Ryan Bator of Manchester; his fiancee and partner in life, Melissa Bator, of Manchester; two brothers; four sisters; and a host of relatives and friends.
Cremation will take place Friday, May 5, at Lakeview Crematory, Bridgeport.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 4, at Baker Funeral Services, 84 S. Main St., Norwalk.
Arrangements are entrusted to Baker Funeral Services.
HATFIELD
Dorothy Kinney Hatfield, 88, of Manchester, entered into eternal rest Sunday, April 30, 2000, at Manchester Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Mrs. Hatfield, the widow of Harry Hatfield, was born in Mars Hill, Maine, and has resided in Manchester since 1941. She worked at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for more than 25 years as an assembler and belonged to the Aircraft Club Retirees Group. She was a member of the North United Methodist Church, Manchester, where she belonged to the Jesse Sweet Circle and the Over '60s Club. She was also a member of the Rebekah Assembly of Connecticut and Welcome Rebekah Lodge No. 47, East Hartford. In 1997 she was recognized as a 50-year member of the Rebekahs.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mabel and Ernest Arendt of Manchester; four grandchildren, Marilou Arendt of Hamden, Rusty Arendt and his wife, Pei, of Madison, Wis., Harry Hatfield Arendt and his wife, Karen, of South Windsor, and Teri Arendt Ferguson and her husband, Ron, of Jupiter, Fla.; five great-grandchildren, Christian and Kate Ferguson, and Thomas, Robbie, and Elena Arendt. She is also survived by three sisters, Grace Rideout of Mars Hill, Eliza Lint of Stetson, Maine, and Ida May Riddle of Mars Hill; a sister-in-law, Clara Kinney of Mars Hill; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Larry Hatfield.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 6, in the North United Methodist Church, 300 Parker St., Manchester. Burial will be private in Mars Hill.

LAWTON
Gary F. Lawton, 46, of Sunset Road, Ellington, husband of Linda (LaChappelle) Lawton, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at University of Connecticut Medical Center, Farmington.
Born in Hartford, the son of Barry and Nancy (Wininger) Lawton, of Willington, he lived in the Vernon and Ellington area most of his life. Gary was employed by the Huffy Service First Co. of Ohio for the past 9 years, and had previously worked for the Starns Brothers Well Drillers, Willington, for 16 years. He was a Boston Bruin fan and an avid NASCAR fan.
Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by his son, Jeremy Lawton of Vero Beach, Fla.; three stepsons, Stephen Munson of Ellington, and Joseph and Jeremy Carlson of Manchester; and two brothers, Timothy Lawton of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Barry Lawton Jr. of Mobile, Alabama.
The funeral will be held at 9:15 a.m. Friday, May 5, at the Ladd-Turkington Funeral Home, 551 Talcottville Road, Route 83, Vernon, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Luke Church, 141 Maple St., Route 140, Ellington. Burial will be in Ellington Center Cemetery, Ellington.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 4, at the funeral home.
MATTHEWS
Edward F. Matthews Sr., 73, beloved husband of the late Audrey Matthews (1996) of Boyle Drive, Enfield, died peacefully at home Tuesday, May 2, 2000.
Born in Lowell, Mass., Edward lived in Enfield most of his life. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran. He was a chef at Mountain Laurel Restaurant, Enfield, and at Bradley International Airport.
Edward is survived by a son, Edward Jr. of Mesa, Ariz.; a daughter, Ann Marie Margotta of Jackson, N.J.; two sisters, Annette Hamilton of Washington, D.C., and Doris Turcotte of Wethersfield; three grandchildren, Eric Matthews, and Anthony and Michael Margotta; and several nieces and nephews.
Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels and Crematory is caring for the arrangements.
The funeral and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
MURPHY
Evangeline (Proctor) Murphy, 100, of Glastonbury, formerly of Manchester, widow of Howard J. Murphy Sr., died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at a local nursing home.
Born Sept. 29, 1899, in Middletown, daughter of the late Isaac and Emma (Thompson) Proctor, she had lived most of her life in Manchester, moving to Glastonbury 10 years ago. She had owned and operated Murphy's Family Restaurant in Manchester. She is survived by two granddaughters, Sharon Fortier of Glastonbury and Lisa Murphy of East Hartford; two grandsons, Michael Burdick of Manchester and Craig Burdick of Florida; a sister, Ruth Smith of Vernon; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two sons, Howard J. Murphy Jr. and Everett A. Murphy; a brother, George Proctor; four sisters, Edith Turkington, Alice Larder, Illegra Baggs, and Grace Proctor.
A graveside service will be held at noon Thursday, May 4, in East Cemetery, Manchester, with the Rev. Ronald Wilson officiating.
There are no calling hours.

ROBBIE
Isabella (Campbell) Robbie, 96, of Manchester, wife of the late Peter Robbie, died Sunday, April 30, 2000, at an area convalescent home.
She was born July 1, 1903, in Troon, Scotland, daughter of the late Archibald and Isabella (Gibson) Campbell, and had lived in Newport, R.I., for most of her life before moving to Coventry in 1971, and later to Manchester. Mrs. Robbie had attended St. Mary Episcopal Church in Manchester.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and William Dwyer of Manchester; her sister, Mary Robbie, of Manchester; three grandsons and their wives, David and Nancy Dwyer of Charlotte, N.C., Stephen and Leslie Dwyer of Brussels, Belgium, and James and Tina Dwyer of West Chester, Pa.; eight great-grandchildren; and a niece and her husband, Jean and George Thomson and family of Litchfield, Maine.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 6, at St. Mary Episcopal Church, 41 Park St., Manchester.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to the time of the service Saturday, May 6, at the church. Burial will be private.

SPITZEL
Walter E. Spitzel Sr., 68, of Talcottville Road, Vernon, formerly of Enfield, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at his home.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Otto and Mary (Rabuse) Spitzel, he had lived in the Enfield community for several years. He moved to Vernon 12 years ago, and attended St. Joseph Church, Rockville. Prior to his retirement, Walter had been employed as a chef in various Enfield area restaurants. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Catherine Spitzel of Enfield, and Mary and William Poette of Troy, N.Y.; two sons and daughters-in-law, William and Janine Spitzel of Enfield, and Walter and Rose Spitzel Jr. of Queens, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 5, at St. Elizabeth Church, Ozone Park, N.Y. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Brooklyn.
Walter's family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday, May 4, at the James Romanelli-Stephen Funeral Home, 89-01 Rockaway Blvd., Ozone Park, N.Y.

ASHLEY
William H. Ashley Jr., 83, of Avon, formerly of Okeechobee, Fla., died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at John Dempsey Hospital, Farmington.
He is survived by his children, Jean Frey and her husband, Henry, Gail Varney, and Thomas Ashley; grandchildren, Lisa Begin, David Frey, Gregory Frey, Thomas Ashley Jr., and James Varney Jr.; great-grandchildren, Tyler Ashley and Kate and Raymond Begin; and a sister, Carol Lane. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 50 years, Ramona.
A memorial service will be private and at the convenience of the family.
DeSIMONE
Francis R. DeSimone, 69, of Manchester, beloved husband of Beverly (Linnell) DeSimone, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at his home.
Born Aug. 21, 1930, in Manchester, son of the late Luigi and Angelina DeSimone, he had been a lifelong resident. Mr. DeSimone was a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was employed as a service manager for the former Plymouth Electric Co. of North Haven for more than 20 years. Mr. DeSimone was a communicant of St. James Church, a member of the Holy Family Retreat House, and was a former Cub Scout master and troop leader for Pack 120 from St. James School in Manchester.
Besides his wife, Beverly, he is survived by five sons and four daughters-in-law, Guy and Jane DeSimone of Berlin, Joel and Edie DeSimone of Tolland, Mark and Kim DeSimone of Middletown, Neal DeSimone of Meriden, and John and Jennifer DeSimone of Manchester; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lynn Kerley of Marlborough, Mary and Robert Kenyon of Manchester, and Dawn and Raymond Sprague of Manchester; a brother, Joseph DeSimone of Walpole, N.H.; a sister, Gloria Gardner of Enfield; 12 grandchildren, Michael, Ryan, Sarah, Neal Jr., Jordan, Nathan, Brooke, Christina, Samantha, Hanna, Jeremy, and Olivia; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five sisters.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 13, at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. at St. James Church, 896 Main St., Manchester. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manchester.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 12, at the funeral home.
