Alice Silvestrini McMullen Masotta, 85, formerly of Orchard Road, Woodbridge, passed away Jan. 6, 2007 in Wayland Nursing & Rehab. Center, Wayland, MA. She was the widow of William F. McMullen and Louis A. Masotta. Mrs. Masotta was born in New Haven July 23, 1921, daughter of the late Serafino & Maria Bronzini Silvestrini. She lived in Woodbridge most of her life. She worked at SNET for 18 years, retiring in 1987 and was a member of Morris Tyler Chapter, Telephone Pioneers. She is survived by a son, William F. McMullen Jr. of Sudbury, MA.; a daughter, Cathleen Race of Marion. MA.; and 4 grandchildren, Meredith & Rebecca Race, Meagan & Matthew McMullen. She was predeceased by 2 sisters, Adele DeLaurentis & Julia Brodka and 3 brothers, James, Thomas & Anthony (Bucky) Silvestrini.

Mary Castiline Carbutti, 90, of 190 Fountain St., New Haven, passed away at home on Jan. 3, 2007. She was the widow of Andrew Carbutti. Mrs. Carbutti was born in New Haven June 13, 1916, daughter of the late John & Primitiva Guandalini Castiline. She is survived by 2 sons, Andrew (Carol) Carbutti of Wallingford & Paul Carbutti of North Haven; a daughter, Mrs. John (Rosemary) Earley of Bethany; 2 sisters, Louise Masi & Rose Muolo, both of New Haven; 7 grandchildren, Paula, Gina, Jonathan, Peter, Mark & Andrew Carbutti III and John Earley Jr. and 5 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, Theodore & John Castiline & 4 sisters, Josephine Wordie, Anna DeFranco, Lucille Murphy & Edith Castiline.

FIOL-VAZQUEZ, RAFAEL

Rafael Fiol-Vazquez, 69, of 109 Frank St., New Haven, passed away at his home on Jan. 2, 2007. Born in Condado, San Juan, Puerto Rico on July 13, 1937, he was the son of the late Angel Fiol Negron & Emerita Vazquez. He was a graduate of University of Puerto Rico and received a Bachelor of Laws degree from Inter-American University. He served in the US Army and was discharged in 1968. He was employed at the New Haven Register for 8 years prior to his retirement. He is survived by a daughter, Olga M. Fiol of Fort Myers, FL.; a brother, Dr. Julio Fiol of Puerto Rico; 2 grandchildren and several nieces & nephews. Also survived by his constant companion, Mary Paolella of New Haven. A private interment was in his family crypt in San Juan, P.R. A memorial mass will be held in New Haven at a later date. Arrangements are in care of The Celentano Funeral Home, New Haven.

Jillian D. Pullen, 26, of 1 Players Lane, Pine Hill, N.J., formerly of the New Haven area, passed away Dec. 27, 2006 in Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia. Born in New Haven on Nov. 1, 1980, she was the beloved daughter of Carl O. and Linda Jeanette Pullen of New Haven. She attended Temple University and had traveled in many different countries with her fiancé, Lynn T. Greer Jr. Beside her parents and fiancé, she is survived by a son, Lynn Terrance Greer III of N.J.; 4 brothers, Jonathan Walker of Boston, Dr. Carl R. Pullen of Philadelphia, Glen Scott Pullen of West Haven & Terrence (Valerie) Pullen of Stratford; 2 sisters, Tina Pullen of New Haven & Dina Pullen of Philadelphia; her paternal grandfather, Carl W. Pullen of New Haven; her maternal grandmother, Bernice Jeannette of New Haven; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by a brother, Paul Pullen.

Esther Iannuzzi, 85, formerly of 75 Exchange St., New Haven, died Dec. 16, 2006 in Brook Hollow Health Care Center, Wallingford. She was the widow of Sabatino Iannuzzi. Mrs. Iannuzzi, daughter of the late Joseph & Rose Pardo Esposito, was born in New Haven on Oct. 14, 1921. She worked as a seamstress for Robbi Len prior to retirement. She was past president of the Rosary Society at St. Rose’s Church and served as a volunteer at Mary Wade Home and Ronald McDonald House. She is survived by a son, Sabatino Iannuzzi Jr. of Wallingford; a daughter, Vivian (Michael J.) Celentano of East Haven; a brother, Richard Esposito of New Jersey; 6 sisters, Grace Serio of Hamden, Rita Conte, Jean Rascati & Mary Ventura, all of East Haven, Helen Proto & Josephine Collins of Calif; and 2 grandchildren, Angelina Rose & Michael Joseph Celentano. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, Orlando & Frank Esposito and a sister, Anna Reddington.

COLLINS, JAMES F.

James Francis Collins, 63 of Bayview Place, West Haven, died unexpectedly Dec. 16, 2006 at his home. Born in Ansonia April 27, 1943, he was the son of the late Joseph & Mildred McDermott Collins. He was a licensed clinical social worker, certified group psychotherapist and a Clinical Instructor in the Dept. of Psychiatry at the Yale School of Medicine. He was a noted practitioner and teacher of group psychotherapy. Before becoming a therapist, he taught science for 20 years on the high school and junior year level and taught Humanistic Education in the North Haven Public Schools. A consummate cook with an artistic flair who appreciated all things aesthetic and innovative, Jim was a leader without needing to be a star. He had a great love of groups of all kinds and contributed tireless support to each – his own family, his therapy and training groups, as well as social, professional and creative groups, such as the Gay Men’s Chorus. In addition to his family, Jim leaves hundreds of friends, colleagues, students & clients who have benefited from his gentle warmth & humor, enthusiastic support, intelligent guidance and insight about life. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Caliendo Collins, a son, Matthew C. Collins of New York City; a brother, Gerald (Kathleen) Collins of Ansonia and a sister, Jamie (Dr. Thomas) Koshy of Kingston, NY.

Marian Kane, 92 of Larson Place, 1450 Whitney Ave., Hamden died Dec. 14, 2006 in Yale New Haven Hospital. Born in New Haven Sept. 1, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Frank & Jane Novicki Kane. She worked in the Admitting Office at Yale New Haven Hospital for many years. Prior to that, she was a correspondent for the former Berger Bros. Co. More recently, she was a volunteer at the British Arts Center at Yale and worked for the Conn. Association of Municipalities. She was devoted to her family and loved to travel. She is survived by a sister, Frances Landry of Niantic; several nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews. She was predeceased by a brother Arthur Kane and two sisters, Phyllis Clouse & Mildred Schneider.

Louis Pesticci, 67, of 433 Wexford Place, Cheshire, formerly of Hamden, passed away at home Dec. 13, 2006. Mr. Pesticci was born in New Haven July 16, 1939, son of the late Louis and Carmel Ciarleglio Pesticci. A graduate of Quinnipiac University, he owned and operated Dynamic Tire in New Haven and was a salesman for Richard Chevrolet in Cheshire. More recently, he operated Orchard Market in New Haven. He is survived by his sister, Susanne Simione of Cheshire; a nephew, Richard Simione Jr.; two nieces, Rochelle Reynolds & Jennifer Testa; a great nephew, Conrad & two great nieces, Whitney & Rhiannon. Also survived by lifelong friends, Fene & Fred Lev, Bob Brown & Charlie Diglio.

Mark J. Papa, 51, of 531 Locust Drive, Orange, passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 7, 2006 at his home. Born in New Haven Nov. 2, 1955, he was the son of Arthur and Elizabeth Vigliotti Papa of Orange. He was a graduate of Amity Regional High School and has been an Orange resident for 40 years. He was employed as a head custodian by the New Haven Board of Education. Beside his parents, he is survived by 3 brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. John (Gigi) Papa of Winter Park FL., David (Ellen) Papa of North Haven and Paul (Christi) Papa of Wallingford; 5 nieces, 1 nephew and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Beside her parents, Samarah is survived by 2 brothers, Zavier & Benjamin Chamberlain and a sister, Cianyse Chamberlain, and the late Ciara Janice Chamberlain.

Kenneth Rice, 59, of 22 June Ave., Norwalk, died Nov. 30, 2006 in Norwalk Hospital. He was the husband of Margaret Mosher Rice. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on July 22, 1947, son of the late William F. and Emma Jean Jones Rice. Mr. Rice worked as a Certified Nurse’s Aid for Home & Health Resources. He was a Navy veteran of the Viet Nam Era and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Beside his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son in law, Kathleen and David A. Watts of Norwalk and a grandson, David A. (D J) Watts Jr.

Anthony E. (Tony Mutt) Mortali, 86, of 25 Hard St., New Haven, died Nov. 23, 2006 in The Conn. Hospice, Branford. He was the husband of Rae Arichello Mortali. Mr. Mortali was born in New Haven Dec. 16, 1919, son of the late Joseph and Christina Mortali. An auto mechanic by trade, he operated 20th Century Garage from 1948 to 1983. He was a lifelong member of the Marchegiana Men’s Society and Sportsmen’s Club. He was well known as a cook for the Marchegiana Club and prepared their Game Dinners for many years. An avid bowler, he bowled at the old Howard Lanes and at the Marchegiana Club. Beside his wife, he is survived by 2 sons, Anthony (Sandra) Mortali of Branford and Joseph (Renee) Mortali of Hamden; a brother, Andrew Mortali and a sister, Dolores Bertini, both of West Haven; and 5 grandchildren, Michelle, Joseph, Anthony, Michael & Alicia Mortali. He was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Mortali, 3 brothers, Orlando, John & Joseph Mortali, and 2 sisters, Alba Giannotti & Mary Fontana.
