HENDRICKSON, ROBERT
March 17, 2007
NEW HAVEN, CT. - Robert Hendrickson, 48, of 237 Blake St., New Haven died March 17, 2007 at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was born Sept. 24, 1958 in Melbourne, FL., the son of the late Douglas & Charlotte Stella Hendrickson. He attended the School of Architecture at Rice University, Houston TX. After graduating, he went to Chicago to work for Murphy Jahn Architects, where he worked on the O'Hare Project, and subsequently headed their field office in New York. Afterwards he went to Miami and worked for Wolfberg Alvarez Associates, working on the Miami Detention Center. Here he began his long association with Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects. Eventually, he joined Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects in 2001, serving as the Senior Project Manager on the construction of the Carnival Center for the Performing Arts in Miami. In 2005, he joined the New Haven, CT office of Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, serving as the Project Architect for the design and construction of The Landmark project in Abu Dhabi. In 2006 he was made an Associate of the firm. He also worked on the Puerto Rico Airport and many other projects. He enjoyed music, traveling, collecting, and antique cars.
He is survived by an aunt, Betty Carlson of Kankakee, IL and 5 first cousins, Shirley Peak of Baton Rouge, LA, Jo Ann Griffiths of Indianapolis, IN, Ginny Hutchinson of Seattle WA, Sharon Drumm of Kankakee IL, and Mary Vire of Grand Prairie, TX, ; a special friend, Marlene Ayton of Boca Raton, FL and many other cousins. Robert had an incredible work ethic. He was well respected, known to be always fair and a true professional.
. A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 24th in the Golden Student Center at St. Thomas More Chapel, Yale University, 268 Park St., New Haven.
Burial will be held at a later date in the Waldensian Presbyterian Cemetery in Monett, MO. Memorials may be made to the Waldensian Presbyterian Cemetery, R.R. 2, Monett, MO 65708 or to the American Heart Association. Arrangements are in care of The Celentano Funeral Home, New Haven.

LOBAY, HALYNA
March 15, 2007
Halyna Makarenko Lobay, 87, of 873 Orange Center Road, Orange, passed away in Yale New Haven Hospital March 15, 2007. She was the beloved wife of Ivan Lobay. Mrs. Lobay, daughter of the late Petro & Maria Makarenko, was born in Ukraine (Kuban) Sept. 1, 1919. She was a research librarian at Beinecke Rare Book Library of Yale University and worked as an economist abroad. Beside her husband, she is survived by 2 daughters, Maria Lobay of Orange and Halyna Vitagliano, MD and her husband, Francis of Boston. Also survived by her grand daughter, Michaela Vitagliano of Boston. Predeceased by a sister, Ludmila Poczynok and a brother, Boris Makarenko.

STEPHENS, WILBUR
March 15, 2007
Wilbur Stephens, 79, formerly of 60 Stuyvesant Ave., New Haven died March 15, 2007 in Mary Wade Home. He was the husband of the late Lena Godi Stephens. Born in New Haven Sept. 30, 1927, he was the son of the late Edward & Ethel Edwards Stephens. He was a lifelong resident of New Haven. He worked for the City of New Haven as an inspector in the Dept. of Weights & Measures and in the Dept. of Elderly Services at Atwater Senior Center for 15 years prior to retirement on Oct. 14, 1986. Prior to that, he was food plant manager and sales manager for Andrews Foods in New Haven for many years. A sports enthusiast, he contributed to many sports columns in his younger days. He was an avid Red Sox fan who cherished his family. He was the father of Ronald (Marilena) Stephens of East Haven, Retired Detective David (Donna) Stephens, NHPD of North Branford; and Valerie (Carl) Fappiano of East Haven; brother of Reginald (Joan) Stephens of Mesa, AZ., Audrey (Raymond) Taylor of Durham, Iris (John) Kirby & Jean (Robert) Fitzgerald, both of Wallingford and the late Joan Mucha. Grandfather of Mark & Melissa Fappiano, Ronald, Jessica, Ashley & Ryan Stephens & Hollie Marinecz; Also survived by a step grandson, Michael Ferraro & 4 great grandchildren.

CAPORALE, EVELYN
March 14, 2007
Evelyn Polito Caporale, 77, formerly of 656 Center St., Wallingford, passed away March 14, 2007 in Talmadge Park, East Haven. She was the widow of Pasquale Caporale. Mrs. Caporale was born in Brooklyn New York in 1929, daughter of the late Louis S. and Frances Sanzeri Polito. She worked at the former Geometric Tool Co. until retirement. Prior to that, she worked at Blue Cross. She was a former member of St. Brendan’s Guild of the Tabernacle. She is survived by a son, Retired Detective Marc M. Caporale, NHPD of Branford; a brother, Robert F. Polito of Cheshire; and 2 grandchildren, Allison & Tyler Caporale.. She was predeceased by a daughter, Gina Rossing.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony’s Church Monday morning at 10:00. Interment in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of The Celentano Funeral Home, New Haven.

CAPOBIANCO, VINCENT J.
February 27, 2007
Vincent J. Capobianco, 74, of 55 Thompson St., East Haven, passed away Feb. 27, 2007 in The CT Hospice, Branford after a lengthy illness.. He was the husband of Yvette Lecours Capobianco. Mr. Capobianco was born in New Haven on May 23, 1932, son of the late Thomas & Angela Ruzzo Capobianco. He was well known as the Deli Manager at Ferraro’s Market on Grand Ave., New Haven for 34 years. Prior to that, he operated Tom’s Market on East Grand & Quinnipiac Ave. in Fair Haven. Beside his wife, he is survived by 2 sons, Thomas Capobianco of Branford & Vincent Capobianco of East Haven; 2 daughters, Eyde Esposito of New Haven & Joanne Smith of Branford; 3 sisters, Kate Spadoni of East Haven, Rose Battista & Josephine Raccio, both of North Haven; and 7 grandchildren.

Norma Caricchio Cretella, 75, of 521 First Ave., West Haven died Feb. 25, 2007 in The CT Hospice, Branford. She was the widow of John D. Cretella Sr. Mrs. Cretella was born in New Haven April 19, 1931, daughter of the late Pasquale & Maria Barile Caricchio. She worked at Monarch Laundry for 46 years prior to her retirement 13 years ago. She is survived by 4 sons, Natale, Charles & Michael Cretella, all of West Haven and John D. Cretella Jr. of New Haven; 2 daughters in law, Marie & Susan Cretella; 2 sisters, Mrs. Andrew (Antoinette) Palmieri of Ansonia & Mrs. Joseph (Enes) Ridarelli of West Haven; a grandson, Michael Cretella and several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, Pasquale & Richard Caricchio and 2 sisters, Lucy Vitelli & Louise Maher.

JONES, DONALD J.
February 22, 2007
Donald J. Jones, 76, of 990 West Main St., Waterbury, formerly of Fairfax St., West Haven, died at home Feb. 22, 2007. Born in Scranton, PA Jan. 17, 1931, he was the son of Marie King Jones of Hawaii and the late James Jones. Prior to his retirement, he was a lithographer for Eastman Kodak. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Beside his mother, he is survived by a son, Donald Jones of Sacramento, CA.; a brother, James Jones of Hawaii; a grand daughter, Nicole and great grandson, Artrail, both of LasVegas and 2 nieces, Candi in CA & Renee in NM. Dorothy Shabon Charlis, 95, of 103 Meadow Wood Rd., Branford, passed away peacefully at home Feb. 22, 2007, with her loving family beside her. She was the widow of Donald Ciarleglio. Mrs. Charlis was born in Russia on March 29, 1911, daughter of the late Stephen & Anastasia Shabon. She worked as a medical secretary in the office of the late Dr. Max Berlowe until they both retired. She was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, The Jolly Time Seniors and Canoe Brook Sr. Center. She was talented in knitting and in needlework. She is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Santone of Branford & Patricia DeFrancesco of West Haven; a brother, Michael Shabon of Branford; 7 grandchildren, Kenneth (LeAnn) Santone, Catheryn (Mark) DeCaprio, Gregory (Lila) Santone, Timothy (Gerarda) Santone, Paul, Susan & Peter (Carrie) DeFrancesco; and 14 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by 2 sisters, Anna & Antanena Shabon.

Frances Criscuolo Piscitelli, 93, of Quinnipiac Ave., New Haven, passed away peacefully at home Feb. 22, 2007. She was the widow of Vincent James Piscitelli. Born in New Haven May 22, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Joseph & Michaelina Cosenza Criscuolo. She worked at Strouse-Adler Co. for many years. She was an avid card player and enjoyed taking trips to the casinos when ever she could. She is survived by nieces, Lena Munz, Marie Amendola, Lena Franco, Lee Christopher, Marie Carrano & Genevieve Infante; nephews, Henry, Paul, Joseph, Robert & Joseph Criscuolo; and several great nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Domenick, Albert, William, Paul, Frank & Joseph Criscuolo; sisters, Amelia Martucci & Carmel Franco; nephews, Nicholas, Joey, Anthony, & Joseph Criscuolo & John Martucci; and nieces, Michaelena Acquarulo, Louisa Martucci & Marie Tagliatela.

Gustavus Fanolis, 82, of 11 Bassett St., West Haven, died Feb. 19, 2007. He was husband of the late Stella Havas Fanolis. He was born Feb. 6, 1925 in Ansonia and was a machine operator for Schick Safety Razor. He served in the US Navy during WW II. A gentle & giving gentleman, he is survived by a sister, Cleo Aportria of Hamden; his constant companion & love of his life, his cat, Pretty; and caregiver and dear friend, Ron Baia. Emilia Marzullo Esposito, 94, of Cove St., New Haven, died peacefully on Feb. 16, 2007 in Laurel Woods, East Haven. Born in New Haven Aug. 29, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Giuseppe & Agata Mercugliano Marzullo. She was a partner in the former Marzullo Pastry Shop on Grand Ave., New Haven, until her retirement. The Marzullo Pastry Shop was founded by he father in 1907 on Wallace St., New Haven. She is survived her devoted children, Mrs. Edward (Tina) Doyle and Mrs. Peter ( Josephine) Santino, both of New Haven, Anthony (Christine) Esposito of Hamden, Frank (Phyllis) Esposito of Jacksonville, FL.& Mrs. Thomas (Anita) Quinn of New Canaan; 3 brothers, Alfred (Philomena “Fanny”) Marzullo of Hamden, Vincent (Eleanor) Marzullo of Sarasota, FL.& Ernest (Barbara) Marzullo of North Haven; her loving grandchildren: Elizabeth, Edward, Michael & Suzanne Doyle, Katherine Gambardella, Joseph (Paula) Esposito, Diane (Brett) Burrell, Peter (Danielle) Santino, Doreen (Mark) Esposito, Anthony Santino (fiancé, Laura), Michael & David Quinn; 13 great grandchildren and 27 nieces & nephews.. She was predeceased by her husband, James V. Esposito, 3 brothers, Frank, Louis “Gigi” and Anthony Marzullo & 2 sisters, Carmela Marzullo & Chiara Tolli Pagliarulo. Emilia was a loyal member of the Elm City Ladies Lodge of the Order of the Sons of Italy for over 60 years, serving as president for 20 years and was a delegate to numerous State & National Conventions. She was an active member & past president of the St. Ann Society at the former St. Patrick’s Church on Grand Ave. She served on the Mayor’s Columbus Day Committee for several years, was a member of the Annex and Jolly Time Seniors and a long time parishioner of St. Bernadette’s Church.
