Wilbert C. Edwards, 74, of Sherman Parkway New Haven died Friday January 6, 2006 in Yale New Haven Hospital. He was the husband of Harriet Bizzell Edwards of New Haven. Mr. Edwards, son of the late Fred Smith and Annie B. Edwards, was born May 17, 1931 in Green County, North Carolina. He was a retired machine operator for Pratt & Whitney Air Craft. His church home was Immanuel Baptist Church, where he served as an usher and worked in the soup kitchen feeding the homeless. He was a past master of the Oriental Lodge # 6 Prince Hall Masons, RWGT Emeritus (of Conn.), Arabic Temple # 40, Eureka Chapter # 1 HRA, Consistory #7 of New Haven, and Eureka Chapter # 2 OES. Besides his wife he leaves sons Rev. Joseph C. Edwards of New Haven, Michael L. Edwards of Greensboro, NC, brothers Willie Gray Edwards of Farmville, NC, James Lee Edwards of Ayden, NC, Dr. Frederick E. Smith of Raliegh, NC, sisters Lula Bell Warren and Lizzie Gay both of Snow Hill, NC, grandchildren Tashara, Terron, and Kierra Edwards, and one great grand child Camryn S. Edwards. A celebration of his life was held on Wednesday January 11, 2006 at 11:00am at Immanuel Baptist Church 1324 Chapel St. New Haven. Burial was in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Friends called at church on Wednesday from 9-11am. Masonic services began at 10am. Arrangements were in care of Howard K. Hill Funeral Services 1287 Chapel Street in New Haven, CT.

Cristobel Fonseca Martin 82, died January 5, 2006, at Middlesex Hospital Madison, CT. She was born to the late Joseph H. and Mary E. Martin on May 25, 1923 in Nevis, West Indies. Cristobel leaves daughters Sheila M. Martin- Corbin of Madison, CT, Valerie P. Martin- Ifield of New York, NY, sons Eugene C. Martin of Staten Island, NY, Clinton C. Martin of Orlando, FL, and 9 nieces and nephews. Ms. Martin was predeceased by 3 brothers and 7 Sisters. A Celebration of her life was held on Thursday January 12, 2006, 11:00A.M at the St. Luke's Episcopal Church 111 Whalley Ave. New Haven. Friends called at the church on Thursday 9-11 A.M. Burial was in Beaverdale Memorial Park. Howard K. Hill Funeral Services 1287 Chapel Street, New Haven, CT. took care of funeral arrangements.

On February 28, 1943 Carolyn Lee Blue was born to the late David & Sadie Green Willis, Sr. in Dunn, NC. She was also Predeceased by her husband Hosa Blue Sr. and son Matthew J. Barrett-Blue. Carolyn attended New Haven & West Haven public schools. She worked at Warner Lambert (Schick) for over 26 years. Prior to retiring she held the position of lead person, supervising with grace & dignity. Carolyn attended Mount Hope Temple United Holy Church of America, Inc. whereas she was a mother of the Church and a member of the senior choir. Carolyn's pleasing & loving disposition endeared her to all encountered. She was a spiritual woman of God, Loving mother who gave all of herself, sincere sister as a catalyst for her sister & brothers, attentive and giving grandmother, caring aunt and a faithful friend. She was loved and will be truly missed by all she touched. Carolyn leaves to cherish her memories, sons Richard T. Barrett, Jr. of Georgia, Terrien P. Barrett of West Haven, CT, Mark J. Barrett-Blue and wife Erica of New Haven, CT, Hosa Blue, Jr. of West Haven, CT, daughter Yvonne A. McCoy & Husband Earl of Hamden, CT, Other survivors include a sister Dorothy Cash, of New Haven, CT, two brothers John Willis, Sr. and Richard Willis both of New Haven, CT and predeceased by brother David Willis, Sr., she also leaves a mother-in-law Viola Blue, of New Haven, CT, 4 brothers-in-laws, and 3 sister-in-laws, Deverne Patterson, of North Carolina, Eddie and Ella Blue, Danny & Audrey Blue all of New Haven, CT. Jerome and Rita Blue of New York. And a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins & Friends. A Celebration of her life was held on Saturday January 7, 2006 at Mount Hope Temple 555 Dixwell Ave. New Haven 9:00 A.M. calling hours at the church was 8-9 A.M on Saturday. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements were in care of Howard K. Hill Funeral Services 1287 Chapel St. New Haven.

(Linda) Williams of Mitchellville, MD, 7 stepdaughters Lillie Hay & Sheila Cunningham of Allendale, SC, Harriet (Frank) Howard of West Haven, CT, Gordell Gulley, Geraldine (Williard) James, Delpha Little all of New Haven, CT & Marva (Ira) Bates of Reading, PA, And numerous step grandchildren, a host of nieces & nephews. Aurelia fought a long victorious battle with diabetes and finally began to experience its' effects at 92 years of age and on September 29, 2005 she slept away to escape the ravages of this insidious disease. Born on December 4th, 1910 in Cincinatti, Ohio, Aurelia was the daughter of the late Lawrence Mays and Junietta Roley (Mays) Showes. Reared in Ohio, she married
Otis Floyd and later T. J. Gentry of Opelika, Alabama with whom she spent many years of marriage. The union of Aurelia dn T.J. resulted in one child Deborah Ethel Gentry, after they relocated to New Haven in 1946. Aurelia leaves to cherish her memory, daughter, Deborah E. Gentry-Pullen (William); three grandchildren Veronica Sangella Moses, Dominique Gentry Moses, and Shelara Pullen; niece Vivian Watson (Harry) of Hamden, Yvonne Smith (David) West Virginia.

Gordon B. Silva, 49, of New Haven, departed this life Dec. 26, 2007 after a brief illness, surrounded by family & friends. Born in New Haven Nov. 27, 1958, he was the son of Bernardino (Bernie) Silva of New Bedford, MA and Claudia Santos Silva of New Haven. Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, Regina Williams Silva of New Haven; 4 daughters, LaQuisha Bangura of Texas City, TX., Serena, Sophia & Summer Silva, all of New Haven; a brother, Daniel A. Silva of Hamden; a granddaughter, Mariya Bangura and a host of loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends are invited to attend funeral services at Cornerstone Christian Center, 192 Meadow St., Milford, Sunday, Dec. 30th at 5:00 PM. Viewing prior to the service from 4 to 5 PM. Oksana Koshak Szumylo, 87, of Milford, CT. and Hallandale, FL., passed away Dec. 25, 2007 in Milford Health Care. She was the widow of Jaroslaw Shumylo. Mrs. Szumylo was born in Ukraine on Dec. 28, 1919, daughter of the late Mykola & Albina Koshak. She is survived by a daughter, Luba Shumylo of Milford; a grandson, Stefan Gildea, a granddaughter, Larysa Stacy and 2 great grandchildren, Levko & Mischa, all of Bethany. Loretta Russo Luciani, 86, of 317 Amity Road, Woodbridge, passed away Dec. 17, 2007 in Harborside Arden House. She was the widow of Emidio “Midge” Luciani. Mrs. Luciani was born in Derby Dec. 1, 1921, daughter of the late Joseph & Dolores Orico Russo. She has been a Woodbridge resident for many years. She is survived by 2 sons, Dennis A. Luciani of Cheshire & Roger (Joanne) Luciani of Woodbridge; a daughter, Donna (Thomas) Neal of Bethany; 3 grandchildren, Craig (Shay) Neal, Kevin (Heidi) Neal and Kim (Kevin) Stack; great grandchildren, Megan Stack and also Michael & Emily. She was predeceased by 2 brothers, Anthony & Nicholas Russo; 6 sisters, Josephine Wiggins, Adeline Kuchauskas, Angelina Russo, Theresa Piscitelli, Marion Ryan & Caroline Croft .

John P. Kolodnicki, 88, of 321 Eastern St., New Haven died Dec. 13, 2007 in Skyview Center, Wallingford. He was the husband of the late Frances (Shirley) Hemstock Kolodnicki. Born in Branford on Nov. 15, 1919, he was the son of the late Thomas Kolodnicki & Mary Kolodnicki Kuczirka. He served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years and, later, was a vessel documentation officer for the U.S. Coast Guard for 14 years prior to retirement. He is survived by a daughter, Nita K. Young of North Little Rock, AR.; a granddaughter, Jonette D. Guest; great grandchildren Correna, Tyler, Peyton & Holden Boyden, all of Hot Springs, AR; a step brother, Stephen Kuczirka of New Haven. He was predeceased by brothers, Matthew D. & William E. Kolodnicki, Benjamin Briar; sister, Jean Proveni; and step brothers, Peter & Charles Kuczirka

Marion Frances Giaimo, 88, widow of former Third Dist. Congressman Robert N. Giaimo, died Dec. 12, 2007 in Virginia Hospital Center, Arlington, VA. She was a resident of Arlington, VA. And Boca Raton, FL. Born in Westmont, N.J. on Nov. 7, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Raymond & Emily Schuenemann. She was a graduate of Brenau College in Gainesville, GA. and UCONN Law School. Prior to moving to Washington in 1969, she helped organize the North Haven League of Women Voters; was an organizer and director of North Haven National Bank and was active in the Ridge Road School PTA. She was also a member of Mayor Lee’s Community Council for the Aging and New Haven Board of Family Services. She served on the Board of Trustees of Brenau College. In the 1960’s, she was co-owner of Giaimo Realty. She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Lee Koones of Potomac, MD and a granddaughter, Tracy Elizabeth Phillips of Washington, D.C.
Funeral services will be held in The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight) New Haven, Tuesday, Dec. 18th at 10:30 with the Rev. Andrew Fiddler, Rector of Trinity Church on the Green officiating. Burial will follow in Old Center Cemetery, North Haven.
