Ruby E. Canning,
a longtime Stamford resident, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000 at Mediplex of Darien. She was 89.
She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Born Feb. 13, 1911, in Zephyr, Ontario, Canada, she was a daughter of the late Julius W. and Edith Heise Rynard.
Mrs. Canning was a retired licensed practical nurse at Stamford Hospital, where she worked for 12 years. She received her L.P.N. diploma from J.M. Wright Technical School.
Mrs. Canning was a member of the Rosemary Chapter of the Eastern Star No. 43, a past member of Grace Evangelical Free Church, and a member of the First Congregational Church of Stamford.
She is survived by two sons, Keith E. Canning of Stamford and William H.W. Canning of Houston, Texas ; four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband, John E. Canning; two brothers, Dr. William Rynard and Wilfred Rynard, and a sister, Mary Rynard Palmer.
Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, 2000 at Bouton & Reynolds Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000 at First Congregational Church of Stamford on Walton Place.
Burial will follow in Fairfield Memorial Park Cemetery
in Stamford.

Thomas R. Bottomly ,
a resident of Easley, S.C., died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000 at his home. He was 71.
He died of complications from cancer, according to his family.
Born Nov. 22, 1928, in Stamford, he was a son of the late James C. and Helen Marshall Bottomly.
Mr. Bottomly graduated from Northeastern University in Boston. He was retired from his job with the state of Connecticut after 26 years of service.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War.
Mr. Bottomly was of Protestant faith.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Perusse Bottomly of Easley; two sons, Thomas R. Bottomly of California and Ronald J. Bottomly of Maryland; a brother, James C. Bottomly of Texas ; two sisters, Gladys Palmer of Stamford and Doris Meyers of Maryland; and three grandchildren.
He was predeceased by two brothers and a sister.
There are no calling hours.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, 2000 at Robinson Funeral Home in Easley. The Rev. Hubert Bishop will officiate.

Theodore L. "Ted" Boccuzzi Sr.,
a Stamford resident for 72 years, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000 at Stamford Hospital. He was 89.
He died of natural causes, according to his family.
Born Aug. 10, 1911, in San Mango Sul Colore, Italy, he was the son of the late Carmine and Concetta DiNardo Boccuzzi.
Mr. Boccuzzi worked for the Atlas Powder Co. in Stamford, was manager at the former Springdale Ice & Coal and at Graves & Strang Co., and was a maintenance mechanic for Polymer Industries. He also was a self-employed builder and landscaper for the Stamford, Darien, Greenwich and New Canaan areas.
He was a volunteer at the Greenwich Garden Center and a member of St. Leo's Church.
He is survived by four sons, Carmine D. Boccuzzi, John S. Boccuzzi, and Salvatore R. Boccuzzi, all of Stamford, and Theodore Boccuzzi Jr. of Danbury; a daughter, Connie Nelson of Chesterfield, Va.; a sister, Eva Gambali of Naples, Italy; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, 2000 at Jerome C. Massari & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000 at St. Leo's Church, Roxbury and Stillwater Roads, Stamford.
Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery
in Darien.

Dr. Bernard Devin Jr. of Brooklyn,
N.Y., a former Stamford resident, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000 at New York Medical Center in New York City. He was 72.
He died of cancer, according to his family.
Born April 23, 1928, in Newark, N.J., he was a son of the late Bernard Devin Sr. and Pauline Fried Devin.
Mr. Devin grew up in South Orange, N.J. He attended Rutgers University and Drew University. He earned his medical degree from the University of Geneva in Switzerland. He had a psychiatry practice in New York City.
He is survived by three sons, Bernard Devin of Fairfield and David Devin and Peter Devin, both of Stamford; a daughter, Miranda Devin of New York City; and two grandchildren.
Mr. Devin was predeceased by a brother, David A. Devin.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000 at B'nai Jeshurun in Hillside, N.J.
Menorah Chapel at Millburn, 2950 Vaux Hall Road, Union, N.J., is handling arrangements.
Evelyn M. Vitting,
a longtime Norwalk resident, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000 at Norwalk Hospital. She was 68.
She died of lymphoma, according to her family.
Born Sept. 29, 1932, in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Margaret Gallagher Vitting.
Ms. Vitting was a secretary at Pitney Bowes in Stamford for 45 years before retiring in 1992. She was a member and former president of the Oval Club and a member and former secretary of the Business and Professional Women's Club. She also was a member of the Pitney Bowes Employee Association, Pitney Bowes Golden Oldies and Pitney Bowes Credit Union.
She is survived by a brother, Norman Vitting of Glen Rock, N.J.; two nephews; and several cousins.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000 at St. Stephen Church, 6948 Main St., Trumbull.

Laura Rakowski,
a longtime Stamford resident, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000 at Stamford Hospital. She was 83.
She died of cardiac arrest, according to her family.
Born Oct. 7, 1916, in Poland, she was a daughter of the late Adam and Wladystawa Wondolowski.
Mrs. Rakowski worked at Pitney Bowes in Stamford before retiring. She was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Church in Stamford.
She is survived by six sons, Chester Rakowski, Ziggy Rakowski, John Rakowski and Steven Rakowski, all of Stamford, Eugene Rakowski of Stratford and Wesley Rakowski of Utah; a daughter, Ann Franklin of Utah; a brother; a sister; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Peter Rakowski Sr.; and two sons, Peter Rakowski Jr. and Joseph Rakowski.
Calling hours will be 4 to 9 p.m. today, Oct. 3, 2000 at Wojciechowski's Ambassador Funeral Chapels Inc., 9 Pulaski St., Stamford.
A procession will leave the funeral home at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, and proceed to Holy Name of Jesus Church, 369 Washington Blvd., for a Mass of Christian burial at 9 a.m.
Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, 66 Woodland Place, Stamford.
