In Branford July 23, 2001, Joseph Pillsbury Bartlett, husband of Anne Bartlett of 764 Quinnipiac Ave., New Haven.
He was born December 22, 1923 in New York City, son of the late Richard and Dorothy Pillsbury Bartlett. As a teenager he was a champion International One design sailor. During World War II he served as an ensign in the Navy first as an LCI skipper and later as a frogman performing underwater demolition. After the war he graduated from Syracuse University then attended the Universite of Besancon in France. He moved to Branford in the 1950’s and was partner in the Bartlett-Hofman Stationary store on Broadway in New Haven. He later owned D & R Recording Systems in Milford, the Orchard Hill Garden Center in Branford, and Cityscapes Landscaping. He served two terms as alderman from the second ward in New Haven and was also the second ward Democratic Committee chairman and an officer of the Human Relation Council. He was a lifelong sailor and a champion sailboat racer. In 1965 he helped re-establish the New Haven Yacht Club and was its first commodore. He also started the Sail New Haven program for inner city children and recently organized a program to send bicycles to Haiti. For the past ten years he was a professional landscaper and devoted much of his time and effort to urban beautification and tree planting.
He is survived by his daughter Paula Joslin of Charlotte, VT, son Michael Bartlett of Quincy, MA, step-sons David Mix of Branford, Jonathan Mix of North Branford and Peter Mix of New York City, and four grandchildren.

Survived by 2 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Pre-deceased by two sons, Arnold Anderson and the Reverend Mark Anderson.
She was born in Buffalo, NY August 25, 1912, a daughter of the late William and Marie Carlson Anderson, and she was a member of the United Methodist Church of Branford.
A memorial service will be held Sunday Dec. 30, at 2 pm in the United Methodist Church of Branford. Burial will be in Fair Ridge Cemetery, NY at the convenience of her family. Memorial donations may be sent to the United Methodist Church Building Fund, 811 East Main St., Branford, CT 06405.

He was born in New haven January 2, 1910, son of the late Carl P. and Lydia Lonberg Anderson and was a lifelong resident of Branford. He served in the U. S. Navy as a cook, and was a retired foundry worker.

Survived by several nieces and nephews. He was born in New Haven November 7, 1910 son of the late August and Alma Anderson. Prior to his retirement, he was the Head Chemist at Cott Beverage Co. in New Haven, and he was a World War II veteran of the U. S. Army.
Friends are invited to attend a funeral service Friday morning at 11:00 in the Bethesda Lutheran Church, 305 St. Ronan St., New Haven. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Branford is in charge of arrangements.

She was the mother of Nora Sutton of Plainfield, NJ, Lynn Boland of Branford, and Julie Ives of Coral Springs, grandmother of Jamie Sanders, Ryan Emily Boland, and Margaret Elizabeth Ives.
Mrs. Boland was born November 8, 1930 in Astoria, Queens, NY, daughter of the late Alfred V. and Emily Gascoyne Boland. She was a registered nurse for Mountainside Hospital in New Jersey prior to her retirement. She was formerly of Upper Montclair, NJ, and she belonged to the Glen Ridge Country Club, and was active in Meals on Wheels. She was a member of the Owenego Beach & Tennis Club in Branford.

Father of David C. Andrews of Hudson, MA and Lynne B. Mydlo of Seymour. Also survived by five grandchildren. Pre-deceased by a sister Dorothy “Dot” Priestly.
He was born Oct. 26, 1910 in Providence, RI and was a graduate of URI with a BS Degree. He was a retired chief chemist for the Whitney-Blake Co. in Hamden, and after retiring was a self-employed consultant. He was a member of the Canoe Brook Senior Center Photo Club.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 504 Main St., Branford, with the Rev. Bill Keane officiating. Friends may call prior to the funeral from 2:30 - 4:30. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
