Susan Hemmock, age 65, of Derby entered into rest on Sunday, September 25, 2016, at Yale-New Haven Hospital. She was the devoted wife of Frank R. Hemmock. Susan was born in Bridgeport on July 21, 1951, daughter of the late Julius and Jennie (Sabo) Sapak, and lived in Derby for 37 years.
She was devoted to caring for her family. She loved visits to the casino and reading on her kindle. Susan also enjoyed QVC, playing games, and keeping up with family and friends on facebook.
She is the beloved mother of Jennie Hemmock and Frank A. Hemmock and his wife Fatima. She also leaves a cherished granddaughter, Audrey Hemmock, and her brother, Thomas Sapak.
Friends may greet the family at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth Street, Derby on Tuesday, October 4 from 5 to 7 PM.

Tina Baruffi

Tina M. Baruffi, age 58, of Shelton, entered into rest on Thursday March 3, 2016 in Griffin Hospital with her loving family by her side. She was the devoted wife of 8 years to Christopher Downey. She was born in France on March 31, 1957, daughter of Marie Gervais Albert and the late Joseph Albert and was a resident of Plainville most of her life before moving to Shelton 8 years ago. Tina was a people person who was friendly and caring. She especially loved animals and her dog “Lucky”. She was a member of the National Guards for 10 years. She is also survived by her sister Debra Albert and will be missed by many family and friends.
Her memorial service will be held on Thursday at 6:30 pm at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St. Derby. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 pm until the time of the service.

Denis Neal Kelleher

Denis Neal Kelleher, age 70, of Derby entered into rest on Thursday, March 3, 2016, at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He is the beloved husband of 41 years of Diane (Marchetti) Kelleher. Denis was born in Derby on February 17, 1946, son of the late Dennis and Mary Catherine Kelleher, and lived in Derby for over 40 years, coming from Bethany.
He served his country with the United States Army in Vietnam for 2 ˝ years. Denis went on to work as a lead man at Sikorsky Aircraft for 37 years before retiring in 2005. He belonged to the Sikorsky Retirement Union Hall and the Oxford Senior Center.
He is the beloved father of Peter John Kelleher and Susan Lynn Kelleher. Denis also leaves four sisters, Catherine Belanger (Arthur), MaryJo Carney, Margaret Bean (Don), and Ann Folger, four brother-in-laws, Albert Marchetti, Dennis Marchetti (Pamela), Richard Marchetti (Victoria), and Natale Marchetti, several nieces and nephews, and a grandniece and grandnephew. He is also survived by his extended family and close friends.
Friends may greet the family at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth Street, Derby, on Monday from 4 to 7 PM. On Tuesday his procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM at St. Mary’s Church in Derby. Burial will follow at Mt. St. Peters Cemetery in Derby.

Barbara Malec

Barbara B. Malec, age 87, of Shelton, entered into rest on Wednesday March 2, 2016 in St. Vincent Medical Center, with family by her side. She was the devoted wife of the late Peter S. Malec. She was born in New Haven on July 21, 1928, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Kuletski) Rukla. Barbara was the motor vehicle clerk at Curtiss Ryan Honda Dealership for over 22 years before her retirement. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was a passionate animal lover, loved spending time with Lucy the horse and Sprocket the dog. She enjoyed bird watch with her son. Barbara was patient, understanding and kind hearted, always seeing the good in people. She was a devout catholic who prayed daily to the Blessed Mother. She is the beloved mother of Cindy Rotman and Peter J. Malec, loving grandmother of Lisa Todd and her husband Scott, Tracy Rotman and his wife Catherine, Christopher Rotman, and P.J. Capece, great grandmother of Nicole and Daniel Todd. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother Nicholas Rukla and three sisters Helen Kuchko, Katherine Gramm, and Vera Guk. Friends may call on Friday March 4, 2016 from 4 to 7 pm at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St. Derby. Her funeral will leave the funeral home on Saturday morning at 11 am for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am in St. Michael Church, Derby. Elizabeth Boyko
BOYKO - Elizabeth Boyko, age 90 of Newington, died Monday, November 17, 2008 in Hartford Hospital. Born in Mystic on December 1, 1917, she was the daughter of the late John Boyko and Olena Krynitski. Miss Boyko was a 1935 Graduate of Shelton High School. She then attended Ansonia Business College, Hillyer Junior College and UCONN. Miss Boyko worked as an Employee of the State of CT for many years in many departments; she retired from the State of CT Teacher's Retirement Board. She was a member of the Indian Hill Country Club, an original "Goodie Golf Girl" at Goodwin Park, a founding member of SNEWGA (So. New England Women's Golf Assoc.), a founding member of the State Women's Amateur Championship and Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Ansonia. In the 1930's and 40's, Miss Boyko was an active volunteer for the Hartford YWCA and "Tommy" played basketball for the Valley "Olympic Girls". Until the time of her death, she volunteered at the Jefferson House, Newington and at the Senior Center Gift Shop. Miss Boyko is survived by several Nieces and Nephews including Robert G. Zuraw and his wife, Sandra of Shelton and Richard J. Zuraw of Clinton, John Astriab and his wife Tina of Albany, NY, Diane MacDonald of Moraga, CA, Allan Coons and his companion, Susan Le May of Schenectady, NY and Diane Boyko of Rutland, VT., as well as many great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Michael Boyko and sisters, Catherine Zuraw, Anne Masline, Helen Astriab, Julie Mica, Barbara Boyko and Mary Coons. Funeral services will take place on Friday, November 21, 2008 at 9:15 AM from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. Thomas Ambrose
AMBROSE - Thomas Ambrose, age 88 of Milford, beloved husband of the late Mamie Strattard Ambrose, died January 22, 2010 in the Rocky Hill Health Care Center. Born in Windber, PA on January 1, 1922, he was the son of the late Michael and Susanna Goray Ambrose. Mr. Ambrose worked as a union carpenter for over thirty years, until the time of his retirement. He was an avid golfer and bowled in Milford and Stratford bowling leagues. In 1971, he placed first with a score of 905 in the Town Fair Lanes Bowling League. Mr. Ambrose enjoyed hunting, archery and mechanical tinkering. He is survived by his beloved daughters, Eileen Ambrose of Meriden and Marie Hudak and her husband, Michael of Milford; and cherished granddaughters, Heather and Alicia Hudak of Milford. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by 13 brothers and sisters. Leszek Zak
ZAK - Leszek Zak, age 39, of Shelton, died February 21, 2010 at St. Vincent Hospital following a long illness. Born in Poland on July 6, 1970, he was the son of the late Feliks Zak and Irena Fabisiak Zak Holub of Seymour. Mr. Zak was a longtime resident of Shelton and construction worker until the time of his illness. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his step-father, Kazimierz Holub of Seymour; his maternal grandmother, Agnieszka Fabisiak of Shelton; devoted brothers and sisters, Maria Zygaldo and her husband, Krzysztof of Seymour, Bogdan Zak and his wife, Margaret of Oxford, Renata Figueroa and her husband, Enrique of Seymour, and Agnes Crisanti and her husband, Keith of Ansonia; also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place from the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Ave., Ansonia, on Tuesday, February 23, 2009 at 9:00 AM. John Varcas
VARCAS - John Varcas, age 85 of Wolcott, formerly of Ansonia, beloved husband of the late Rose Beury Varcas, died January 11, 2010 in the Paradigm Health care Center, Prospect. Born in Liverpool, England on May 28, 1924, he was the son of the late Gregorio and Elvira Varcas. Mr. Varcas was both a Royal Navy and Royal Army Veteran of WWII, serving for the United Kingdom. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1967and resided in Ansonia for 35 years. He worked as a carpet and flooring contractor until the time of his retirement. He is survived by his devoted son, Greg Varcas and his wife, Linda of Wolcott and cherished grandchildren, Courtney and Alec Varcas of Wolcott. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his sons, Mark and Carl Varcas and a brother, George Varcas. Funeral services are private. Steven Dziadik
DZIADIK - Steven Dziadik, 59, of Westbrook, passed away January 4, 2010 in Middlesex Hospital, Middletown following a short illness. Mr. Dziadik was born in Griffin Hospital Derby, on October 9, 1950, he was the son of the late Stephen and Anna Mikita Dziadik. Raised in Shelton, he graduated from Shelton High School in 1968. After graduation he was employed by Sikorsky Aircraft in Shelton where he learned the machine repair trade. He was employed at Nilson's Manufacturing in Shelton and went on to Avco Lycoming for 19 years, where he ultimately worked on CNC machines. The last years of his employment were spent managing small manufacturing plants. Mr. Dziadik retired in 2002. Mr. Dziadik was married in 1977 to Marla Carroll and raised his son Daniel in Thomaston. He served on the Board of Education in Thomaston for 11 years, was chairman of the board for 2 years and vice chair for 1 year. He was a member of the Thomaston building committee, overseeing the addition to the Thomaston High School. He was an advocate of the high school band and chorus, attending numerous competitions as a representative of the Board of Education and the town of Thomaston. Mr. Dziadik was an active amateur extra ham radio operator with the call sign WJ1T. Over the years Mr. Dziadik was a member of many clubs and also was a ham radio instructor. Most recently he was a member of the Shoreline Amateur Radio Club in Westbrook. He is survived by his loving companion Marcy Fuller of Westbrook; his son Daniel Dziadik of Torrington and Daniel's mother, Marla Carroll Dziadik of Torrington; a sister, Rosann Dziadik of Old Saybrook; and his beloved aunt, Julia Dripchak of Shelton. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Michael Dziadik; maternal grandparents, Nicholas and Anna Mikita; and paternal grandparents Kuzma and Natalie Kwoka Dziadik. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. in the Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. Burial will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Ansonia. Joseph Marino
Marino - Joseph Marino age 95, beloved husband of Elizabeth Bayles Marino of Oxford, formerly of Bridgeport, died January 1, 2010 surrounded & comforted by his loving family. Born in Astoria, Queens, NY on November 24, 1914, he was the son of the late Dominick and Mary Cusamano Marino. Mr. Marino met his soul mate Elizabeth, in Hyde Park, NY; they married and lived in Dover Plains, NY before settling in Bridgeport for over 40 yrs. He worked as a machinist at Singer Sewing Co. for 20yrs. He then worked for McMellon Bros. for 20 yrs. retiring at the age of 76. He resided in Oxford for the last 20yrs. Mr. Marino was active in the Derby & Ansonia Senior Centers and was nominated "Man of the Year" in July 1995 at the Derby Senior Center. In addition to his wife of 68 years, he is survived by his devoted children, Joseph F. Marino and his wife, Carol of Shelton, Michael Marino of Oxford, Marie Ryan and her husband Gary of AZ, Karin Hooper and her husband Wayne of Sandy Hook; a brother Vincent Marino and his wife Ida of SC; 10 cherished grandchildren and four cherished great-grandchildren. Mr. Marion was predeceased by brothers, John and Andrew Marino, a sister, Rosetta LaMonte, and a grandson, Todd Marino. To honor his wishes, funeral services are private. James K. Hughes
HUGHES - James K. Hughes, age 68, beloved husband of Pamela Partrick Hughes of Ansonia, died February 4, 2010 in Griffin Hospital. Born in Scranton, PA on December 10, 1941, he was the son of Harold and Elma Borthwick Hughes of FL. Mr. Hughes was a resident of Ansonia for 35 years and worked as a Production Control Foreman for the Sikorsky Co. for over 40 years until his retirement in 1999. He was strong supporter of the NY Jets and Mets and took pride in tending to his beautiful flower gardens. In addition to his wife of 50 years, Mr. Hughes is survived by his devoted children, David Hughes and his wife, Tracy of Ansonia, Donald Hughes of Milford, Diana Gilloren and her husband, Martin of Ansonia, Kenneth Hughes and his partner, Randy Longobardi of Milford and Christopher Hughes and his companion, Becky Strode of Ansonia; a sister, Cheryl Styles of FL, a brother, Malcolm Hughes of Meriden; cherished grandchildren, Christopher Hughes, Ryan Lowe, and Gregory & Jamel Gause; as well as several nieces and nephews. Catherine Strilka
STRILKA - Catherine Strilka, age 95 of Orange, beloved wife of the late John Strilka, died January 29, 2010 in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her family. Born in New York City on July 14, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Martha Wowrowski Jelasko. Mrs. Strilka was a long time resident of Orange and worked as an assembler for the Sikorsky, Bond Rubber, Bic Pen and Winchester Arms Companies, until her retirement in 1975. Together with her family she enjoyed traveling to destinations such as Hawaii, Florida, US Virgin Islands, Caribbean Cruises and was strong supporter of the UCONN Women's Basket Ball Team. She is survived by her devoted children, Paul and his wife Lillian Strilka and Janice and her husband, Paul Peterson, all of Orange; cherished grandchildren, Paul Strilka, Jr. and his wife Robyn of NYC, Craig Strilka of Shelton, Robert Shinn and Kristen Peterson, both of Orange; and a cherished great-grandson, Eastwood Strilka of NYC. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Strilka was predeceased by her brothers, John and Michael Jelasko. Julie L. Citrano
CITRANO - Julie L. (Kowall ) Citrano, age 78 of Trumbull, beloved wife of the late Dr. Eugene Charles Citrano, died on January 1, 2010 in St. Vincent's Medical Center. Born in Brooklyn, NY on November 2, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Leon and Louise Kowall. Mrs. Citrano attended Port Chester High School where she was an accomplished Ice skater. She attended the University of Bridgeport. She moved to Trumbull over 50 years ago and was office manager/bookeeper for her husband's medical practice. She was an avid puzzler, voracious reader, and superb cook; but her passion was her family and her house was always "home" to all who entered. She is survived by her loving daughters and sons, Christine Citrano of San Antonio, TX, Laura Citrano and her companion Scott Ramsdell, of Stuart, VA, Eugene H. Citrano of Newtown, and Gregory Citrano and his wife Mary Alice, of Monroe; her cherished grandson, Eugene C. Citrano of Newtown, and a nephew and niece, Robert Kowall and Kathleen Kowall, both of Florida. She was predeceased by a brother Robert Kowall. Mary Biela
BIELA - Mary Biela, age 89, of Newtown Square, PA, formerly of Ansonia, died peacefully in her home on December 20, 2009. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph J. Biela, Sr. Born in Ansonia on October 1, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Tekla Karlak Bodyk. Mrs. Biela was a lifelong resident of Ansonia before moving to PA 13 years ago. She was a member of Three Saints Russian Orthodox Church where she sang in the choir and taught religious education. She worked as a bookkeeper for the former Empire State Novelty Co. of Shelton for over 20 years, until the time of her retirement. She is survived by her devoted children, Judy Greenberg and her husband, Glen of PA, Joseph and Katherine Biela of Ansonia and Robert and Kathy Biela of Southington; a sister, Helen Naramore of OK; a brother, Walter Bodyk of Naugatuck; 10 cherished Grandchildren and a Great-Grandson. George A. Small
SMALL - George A. Small, Jr., age 83 of Seymour, beloved husband of the late Nadia Beletsky Small, died February 4, 2010 in the Water's Edge Health Care Center, Middletown, surrounded by his family. Born in Derby on November 11, 1926, he was the son of the late George A. and Helen Abel Small, Sr. Mr. Small was a long time resident of Seymour. He was the owner and operator of the former East Side Auto Service of Ansonia for over 35 years, specializing in VW repairs and sales. He is survived by his devoted children, Nancy Small and her husband Kent Harrigan of Middletown, Linda Washicosky of Waterbury, and Diana Smith of Beacon Falls; five cherished grandchildren & a great-granddaughter; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a sister, Helen Buck and a son-in-law, Michael Smith. BALKO - Martha Balko, age 88, beloved wife of Harry Balko, Jr. of Georgetown, MA, formerly of Derby, died Saturday, December 13, 2008. Born in Brooklyn, NY on November 8, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Esther Sokol Yustin. Mrs. Balko was a longtime Derby resident before moving to MA in 1991. She was a homemaker, former employee of the Sikorsky Aircraft, Co., and life long member of Three Saints Church, Ansonia. In addition to her husband of 67 years, she is survived by her devoted daughters, Sandra Kiley and her husband, John, Jr. of Oxford and Diane Klibansky and her husband, John of Georgetown, MA.; a sister, Anne Slie of Seymour; cherished grandchildren, John Kiley III and his wife Sharon of Oxford, Greg Kiley of derby, Nadine Russo and her husband, David of Seymour, Philip Klibansky and his wife, Patty of Newburyport, MA, Nadezhda Hart and her husband, Jeffry of Worcester, MA; great-grandchildren, Chase and Jordan Russo of Seymour; as well as several nieces and nephews. S. Roy Perler
PERLER - S. Roy Perler, age 82, beloved husband of Anne Neville Perler of Huntington, died December 5, 2008 in Yale-New Haven Hospital. Born in New York City on March 25, 1926, he was the son of the late Joseph and Goldie Blacker Perler. Mr. Perler served his country as a Naval Aviator during WWII and graduated from Yale University in 1947 with a BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was the President and CEO of Industrial Truck Sales of North Haven, a company he purchased over 35 years ago. Mr. Perler was a passionate seaman, navigating the Bermuda Race many times as well as sailing the East Coast and the Bahamas. He was a former member of the Milford Yacht Club. Mr. Perler was an avid antique car enthusiast owning many American and European models. In addition to his wife of 23 years, he is survived by sons, Robert Perler of Greenwich, Mark Perler of Stamford, and Eric Perler and his wife, Jeanine of Woodbridge; grandsons, Craig, Evan, Justin, Wesley and Kirby Perler. He is also survived by a niece and a nephew; a great-niece and great-nephew; 4 step-children, 5 step-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren. Mr. Perler was predeceased by a sister, Rhoda. The family wishes to express their sincerest gratitude to the all the physicians, nursing staff, and chaplain of the Yale-New Haven Surgical ICU for their outstanding care. Funeral services are private. Memorial contributions may be made to benefit breast cancer through the Swim Across the Sound, 2800 Main St., Bridgeport, CT 06606 (Kindly place "S. Roy Perler" in the memo portion of your check). The Wakelee Memorial Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia, is in care of arrangements.
