Helen M. Yappelli Trifari, 89, of 2792 Donnolly Dr. Lantana, FL died November 24 in Bethesda Memorial Hospital. She is the wife of Dr. Leopold M. Trifari and mother of the late Leopold John Trifari. Mrs. Trifari was born in Brooklyn, NY March 9, 1916 a daughter of the late Gaetano and Louise Schettini Yappelli. She is the sister of Gloria Russillo, aunt of Verna R. Prentice, Lynne A. and Victor L. Russillo, great aunt of Hayat A. and Gwyn A. Prentice and great great aunt of Prentice H. and Chase R. Atterbury.

Louis A. Perno of 65 Messina Dr., East Haven died November 26, 2005 at home. He was the husband of Carmel Sullo Perno. Mr. Perno was born in New Haven June 7, 1916 the son of the late Dominic and Anna Schultz Perno. He retired from G & O Manufacturing Co. after 44 years of service. He was a member of the Fair Haven Blues, Italian American Democratic Club and was the recipient of the Man of The Year Award from the Main St. Reunion Committee.He is the father of Lorene (Anthony) Russell, Dominic (Cynthia), Ernest (Florence) and Louis (Patricia) Perno, brother of Mary Perna, Louise DeLorenzo, Anthony and Ernest Perno and the late Rose Parrillo and Joseph Perna. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Donald J. Marcella of 65 Seabreeze Drive in Stratford died November 28, 2005 in Bridgeport Hospital. He is the husband of Annamarie (Maggiore) Marcella. Mr. Marcella was born in Bridgeport February 11, 1930 a son of the late Thomas and Philomena Cagganello Marcella and was an Army Veteran. He was a construction worker for the Town of Stratford Department of Public Works for 38 years before retiring. He is the father of Thomas J. Marcella and future father-in-law of Aimee Zinser. Brother-in-law of Dominic V. (Marie) Maggiore and Edward C. (Rose) Maggiore. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Salvatore "Pat" DiGiacomo, 90, of 111 S. Shore Dr. East Haven, formerly of 48 Four Rod Road, Hamden died at home December 1, 2005. He was the husband of the late Michaelina Frisa DiGiacomo. Pat was born in New Haven November 30, 1915 a son of the late Anthony and Angelina Landi DiGiacomo and served with the US Marine Corp. during WWII. He was the general manager of the Johnny Barton Co. for several years prior to his retirement. Pat was an active parishioner of Church of the Ascension in Hamden. He loved to travel, play golf and read. He was a member of the New Haven Gridiron Club and the Alpha Club.
He is the father of Patricia A.DiGiacomo and the late Ronald and Donald DiGiacomo. Brother of the late Giovanna DiGiacomo. Father-in-law of Patricia DiGiacomo. Grandfather of Donald and Emily and great grandfather of Matthew. Uncle of Joann Frisa VanTuijil, Linda McCarthy, Patricia Miller, Joseph Frisa and Carol Mauriello. He is also survived by several great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews and his caregiver Eric Mensah.

Rita A. Arciuolo of 1270 North High Street in East Haven died December 1, 2005 at Miller Memorial Community. She was the wife of the late Andrew Arciuolo. Mrs. Arciuolo was born in New Haven August 22, 1922 a daughter of the late Frank and Rachel Pastore DeLieto and was the Welfare Administrator for the Town of North Haven from 1973 to 1984 and was given the key to the Town after retiring. She was also instumental in starting the Energy System Program and the Job Assistance Program. Mother of Cheryle Borzillo, Frank and Mark Arciuolo. Sister of Eleanor Pellegrino. Grandmother of Carina and Sofia Borzillo, Kimberly, Andréa, and Meghan Arciuolo. She is also survived by several loving and caring nieces and nephews.

Richard A. “Doc” Bailo, 64, of 26 Green Garden Court, East Haven died suddenly Nov. 30, 2009 in Yale New Haven Hospital. Born in New Haven Feb. 8, 1945, he was the son of Freda Derbabian Bailo of East Haven and the late Radio Bailo. He graduated from Notre Dame High School, Youngstown University and West Virginia University “Cum Laude”. He majored in chemistry and taught chemistry at the University of New Haven for two years. He drove part time for the former Yellow Cab Co. and has been a cab driver for more than 30 years, most recently for Metro Cab. He was an avid Mets and Jets fan. Frank J. Skolonis Jr, 70, of 20 Pearl St., New Haven passed away Nov. 29, 2009 in St. Raphael’s Hospital. He was the husband of Laura Paecht Skolonis. Mr. Skolonis was born in New Haven May 24, 1939, son of the late Frank J. and Theresa Piontek Skolonis. He was a mason contractor by trade and was an active member of the Branford Racket Club at Pier 66. He was also an avid boater and fisherman. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Frank Skolonis III of Baltimore, MD. formerly of Bolton, CT.; two daughters, Donna Apuzzo and Sharon (Frank) O’Connor, both of North Haven; a sister, Dolores (Walter) Orfiss of Seymour; and two grandchildren, Daniel and Katie O’Connor. He was predeceased by a sister, Barbara (Richard) Dest.

Eugene B. Marcy Jr., 61, NHFD (ret.) of 92 North High St., Clinton passed away Nov. 26, 2009 in Glade View Health Care Center, Old Saybrook after a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Kathryn Cifarelli Marcy. Mr. Marcy was born in Kingston, PA. on April 1, 1948, son of Eugene B. Marcy Sr. of West Haven and the late Charlotte Anderson Marcy. He was appointed to the New Haven Fire Dept. Jan. 26, 1977 and retired Jan. 10, 2002 after 25 years of dedicated service. He was a pump operator of Engine Co. 8 at Whitney Station for several years. During the Vietnam War, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps and saw action during the Tet Offensive, earning The Purple Heart. He was a member of New Haven Fire Dept. American Legion Post 132 and VFW Post 15007. Besides his wife and father, he is survived by a daughter, Cathryn “Katie” Marcy of Clinton; his favorite aunt, Pamela Tirrell of KY.; two nieces, Ann Marie Brangi & Mary DePino; two cousins, Ginger Thomas & Pamela Dunn; his in laws, Noah & Kaye Cifarelli of East Haven as well as the other members of the Cifarelli Family who dearly loved and supported him during his lifetime. He was predeceased by an infant son, Eugene Robert Marcy; his sister, Pamela Lenzi; and his favorite uncle, Robert Kemmerer.

John Sowa, age 103, of 38 Charter Oak Ave., East Haven died peacefully at home Nov. 22, 2009 surrounded by his caring wife and devoted son and daughter in law. He was the husband for almost 71 years of Mary Husak Sowa. Mr. Sowa was born July 11, 1906 in Ostriv, Western Ukraine. He came to this country in 1948 and worked for Yale University for 15 years until his retirement in 1971. During that time, he was the personal gardener for the late Yale President, Kingman Brewster Jr. He loved his family, his flower gardens and his adopted country. He was a dedicated member of St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, and was a member of the Holy Name Society and CYM Ukrainian Youth Organization. Besides his wife, he is survived by his son and daughter in law, Bohdan and Ella Sowa of Branford. He was predeceased by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
