Olga Loulis Bungeely, 92, formerly of Fountain St., New Haven, passed away Sept. 5, 2008 in Highland Health Care Center, Cheshire. She was the widow of Christos C. Bungeely. Mrs. Bungeely was born in Ansonia on Feb. 11, 1916, daughter of the late Paul & Diamond Makris Loulis. For many years, she was associated with several family operated restaurants including the Esquire Restaurant and Putnam Steak House in New Haven and the Esquire Diner in Bridgeport. She was an active member of St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, serving on the Odyssey Festival Committee and was a member of the Ladies Philoptchos Society and Mycale Chapter 137, Daughters of Penelope. She is survived by two daughters, Christine McMahon of Cheshire & Renee Londner of Prospect; a sister, Georgia (Babe) Necklas of Branford; two grandchildren, Susan & Rachel; and three great grandchildren, Steven, Jacob & Kendall. She was predeceased by a brother, Edward P. Loulis and two sisters, Dorothy Pappas and Ella Spiros.

STICCO, PETER A.

Peter Alan Sticco, 55, passed away Sept. 1, 2008 at his home in Cheshire surrounded by his close family and friends. He was born in New Haven on Dec. 31, 1952, son of Mrs. Mildred Marangell Sticco of New Haven and the late Peter Sticco Sr.
Peter graduated from Notre Dame High School and attended Sacred Heart University. He was the owner and founder of Coast to Coast Produce LLC, a Cheshire based broker and distributor for a full line of fresh fruits and vegetables. His roots in the produce business began as a young boy working with his father planting and picking fruits and vegetables at the family owned Green Acre Farm in Woodbridge. He continued in the business in 1973 working for Bozzuto’s Inc. for 13 years later rose to head his department. In 1985, Peter started Coast to Coast Produce. With a small beginning in an office at Cheshire’s Watch Factory and 4 employees, Peter’s business expanded during the past 23 years to include satellite offices in Monterey & Bakersfield, CA. and Everitt, MA. with nearly 25 employees. He often boasted about his experienced staff, many of whom are long time employees. Peter received a number of professional awards and commendations for his work, including recognition from the Produce Marketing Association as a member of the Gold Circle and the Adam Bozzuto Award in 2007, one of only two recipients not employed by Bozzuto’s to receive the award. Michael Bozzuto noted that Peter received the honor for his reputation of caring and generosity for his growers, shippers and customers.
Peter was an outstanding competitive bowler and had a passion for sharing time with his dear family and friends. He also enjoyed traveling and time spent at his Miami home. Peter enjoyed recalling his early memories of working with his dad, and, in later years, watching his own grapes grow in California. He will be remembered lovingly by all those who knew him. Besides his mother, he is survived by his aunt, Ann Sticco of Cheshire.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Aedan’s Church, 112 Fountain St., New Haven Thursday, Sept. 4th at 10:30 AM. Entombment will follow at St. Lawrence Garden Mausoleum. Lucy Pellegrino Corso, 92, of 285 Upson Terrace, New Haven, passed away August 26, 2008. She was the widow of Charles Corso. Mrs. Corso was born in New Haven March 29, 1916, daughter of the late Vincent & Genevieve Pellegrino. She is survived by two sons, Thomas S. Corso of Hamden and Charles J. Corso of Madison; a daughter, Jacqueline (John) Lamirande of Laguna Beach, CA; two sisters, Margaret Coppola of Orange and Carol Bruno of West Haven; and 9 grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Veronica Leathen and six brothers, Richard, Louis, Frank, Joseph, Vincent & Ernest Pellegrino.

Lucille B. Schrader, 85, of 60 Main St., Deep River, formerly of Hamden, passed away Aug. 20, 2008 in Middlesex Hospital after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of Walter J. Schrader. Mrs. Schrader was born in New Haven Oct 28, 1922, daughter of the late Joseph & Anne Minichino LaValle. Beside her husband, she is survived by three daughters. Donna (Anthony) Apuzzo of Hamden, Lucille (Welles) Bauman of Deep River & Judith (John) Ranz of East Haven; one son, Walter (Deborah) Schrader Jr. of Branford; a sister, Mary Jane Celentano of New Haven; 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.. She was predeceased by two brothers, Salvatore & Joseph LaValle; two sisters, Vincenza Pierlow & Rosemarie Dion; and two grandchildren, Danielle Sartini & Christopher Apuzzo. Sister Mary Joanna Nolan, OSB, a member of the Benedictines of Jesus Crucified of the Monastery of the Glorious Cross, 61 Burban Dr., Branford, CT died August 16, 2008 in CT Hospice. She was born in Hawarden, Iowa a daughter of the late Robert H. and Joanna E. Gaffney Nolan. Before entering the order she was a registered nurse and also taught children on a reservation in South Dakota. Sister was a member of Regina Mundi Priory in Devon, PA and St. Paul’s Priory in Newport, RI before moving to Branford. She was the sister of Helen V. Kelehan of Des Moines, IA, Sister Michael Marie Nolan, DC, of Shoreline, WA, and John E. Nolan of Leawood, KS. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Monastery of the Glorious Cross Monday from 5-7 PM and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in the Monastery Chapel Tuesday morning at 10:45. Interment in St. Agnes Cemetery. The Celentano Funeral Home, New Haven, is in charge of the arrangements.

Lucy Cozzi, 94, of New Haven died August 15, 2008 in the Sister Anne Virginie Grimes Health Center. Born in New Haven Dec. 13, 1913 she was the daughter of the late Beneddito and Maria Paradiso Cozzi. Miss Cozzi served in the United States Marine Corps as a Gunnery Sergeant for 20 years. She was the sister of Ronnie Puglisi of Branford, Jennie Schultz of New Haven and her loving and devoted sister Flora Consiglio, also of New Haven. She was the beloved aunt of Ruth, Robert, and Richard Consiglio. Lucy was predeceased by 4 brothers, Edward, Alphonse, Albert, and Anthony Cozzi and 4 sisters, Mary Pavarotti, Faye D’Amato, Virginia Calling, and Rose Mongillo. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Aedan’s Church, 112 Fountain St., New Haven Tuesday morning at 10:00. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Wilfred G. (Bill) Sliby, 64, of New Haven, passed away on August 13, 2008 at Yale New Haven Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in New Haven on June 20, 1944 a son of the late Wilfred F. (Jack) and Ruth Eaton Sliby. Mr. Sliby is survived by his 2 sons, Gary Sliby of Palm Coast, FL and Daniel Sliby, his wife Renee and their daughter Dana of New Hartford, CT ; 2 sisters, Jacqueline Pilato of West Haven and Joanne Balletto and her husband Dom (Panch) of New Haven and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving Bill is his best friend and former spouse Sandie Beatificato of East Haven. Bill served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Blandy (DD943). Prior to his illness he was employed in the Purchasing Dept. at Yale University Health Services. In earlier years he had been employed by Armstrong Rubber and Cunningham and Upson. Bill enjoyed fishing and stamp collecting but mostly road trips with Sandie that included Navy reunions.

Josephine Jean “Dolly” Giordano Mezzanotte, 71, of 22 Claudia Place, Milford, passed away peacefully at home Aug. 5, 2008. She was the beloved wife of Frank Mezzanotte. Mrs. Mezzanotte was born in Hamden Nov. 2, 1936, daughter of the late Nicholas A. and Anna Cassella Giordano. She worked as a realtor for several area real estate agencies until her retirement. At one time, she worked at Albertus Magnus College. Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Roseann Raso of Middletown and Linda Mezzanotte of Milford; four grandchildren, Michelle Bailey, Nicholas, Christopher & Anthony Raso; and one great grand daughter, Anna Bailey. She was predeceased by a brother, Anthony Giordano and a granddaughter, Nicole Raso.

Maryanne (Marianka) Romanytch, 28, of Orange, passed away unexpectedly Aug. 3, 2008 at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was born in Ukraine Feb. 24, 1980. She was the beloved daughter of Lyuba and Cristoforo Schiano of Orange. Maryanne graduated from University of New Haven in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, and was working toward her master’s degree in Human Resources at UNH. She worked as staffing and recruiting specialist for Peoples United Bank, supporting the Greater Bridgeport Market, and also worked at the family owned Lisiano’s Restaurant in Orange. She was a happy, vibrant, life loving woman who always put others before herself and those whose lives she touched will deeply miss her. Besides her parents, she is survived by her aunt & uncle, Maria & Bohdan Antonyshyn of Orange, and her wonderful boyfriend, Atty. Lucas (Lukian) Hernandez of Milford.

Redento D. Ferranti, an internationally recognized physician, passed away July 29, 2008, at St. Raphael Hospital after a career during which he pioneered advances in pulmonary rehabilitation, promoted the importance of nutrition in patients with chronic respiratory insufficiency and spearheaded programs to study sleep disorders. Dr. Ferranti’s curiosity, intelligence, humor and love of life illuminated his work and relationships with fellow physicians, patients and family. In lectures and conferences in the U.S. and Europe, Dr. Ferranti’s colleagues often referred to him as the “father of modern pulmonary rehabilitation.” Dr. Ferranti was an associate clinical professor of medicine at Yale University and, among other positions, served as medical director and director of the pulmonary program at Gaylord Hospital. As a fulltime physician at Gaylord from 1969 to 1997, he founded and expanded the pulmonary program to one of international stature and in partnership with Yale founded the Sleep Study Laboratory, which he then transformed into the largest sleep center in Connecticut and one of the largest in New England. He was one of the first physicians to introduce the use of liquid oxygen in small portable containers. Born in Sulmona, Italy, in 1923, Dr. Ferranti was the only child of Maria Assunta Colamosca and Marco Ferranti, a tailor and railway worker. Coming of age in war-torn Rome, Dr. Ferranti became convinced of the need to foster international relations to avoid war, poverty and disease, and helped promote the youth hostel movement in post-war Europe. After graduating from the University of Rome Medical School in 1952, Dr. Ferranti served residencies at Kings County and St. Vincent’s Hospitals in New York City. He married
Ida Preziosi, a nurse-anesthetist, in 1954 and moved to Connecticut, where in addition to his work at Gaylord served in positions at hospitals including Yale-New Haven, St. Raphael, Meriden-Wallingford, WWII Memorial, New Britain Memorial, and Veterans Home & Hospital. He co-founded a school for respiratory therapy at St. Raphael. His concern for quality of life and his multidisciplinary approach to medicine informed his efforts to examine the role of diet and sleep disorders in patients with respiratory problems, which he explored in numerous academic articles and lectures in the US and Europe. His interest in international cooperation and in mentoring younger colleagues spurred him to organize the Roman Forum in Pulmonary Diseases in 1973, the success of which led to dozens of other medical conferences in Europe and the US. Dr. Ferranti received many awards including The American Lung Association and Connecticut Thoracic Society’s Humanitarian Award and the Gaylord Medal. Despite such accolades, Dr. Ferranti, affectionately known as Tino, was a modest man who liked nothing better than to introduce acquaintances from all walks of life to the joys of Italian cooking and wine, apply his interest in architecture while rehabilitating his beloved house in Trevi, Italy, and put his encyclopedic knowledge of European culture to use during travels with family and colleagues. Dr. Ferranti, a North Haven resident, is survived by his wife, Ida; six children: Marc, Peter, Paul, Thomas, Mary and John; and nine grandchildren. Lillian Grillo Falade, 99, of 46 Anthony St., New Haven, passed away July 26, 2008 in St. Raphael’s Hospital. She was the widow of Philip Falade. Mrs. Falade was born in New Haven Dec. 4, 1908, daughter of the late Vincenzo & Maria Grazia DeMeola Grillo. She is survived by a son, Vincent A. (Marilyn) Falade of Branford; a sister, Antoinette Grillo of New Haven; 3 grandchildren & 5 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Philip Falade Jr., four brothers, Philip, Anthony, Louis & George Grillo; and three sisters, Mary Annatone, Rose Tufano & Helen Kyc.
