Janet (McCarter) Kellner
Janet (McCarter) Kellner, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., formerly of Higganum, passed away Tuesday. April 21, 2009, after a brief illness. She was born June 9, 1922, in Hartford, daughter of the late James and Marion (Arnold) McCarter. Before retirement, she served as town clerk of Haddam from 1960-70, and managed the Haddam branch of Liberty Bank for a number of years. She was past matron of OES Belvill Chapter No. 46, Haddam.
Janet is survived by four daughters, Judith Kellner and partner, Dennis Gladwin, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Paulette Perkett and husband, Eugene, of Haddam Neck, Holly Dozier of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Barbara Mitchell and husband, Mark, of Avon; five grandchildren, Jeremy Armstrong, Jason Perry, Tiffany Hopkins, Carlee Welsh and Kerri Kane; six great-grandchildren, Allen and Cameron Hopkins, Mackenzie and Cameron Olsen, Cheyenne Welsh and Abigail Kane; one sister, Doris Wilke of Plainfield, and one brother, Robert McCarter and, wife Jackie, of Mattapoiset, Mass.
Janet was predeceased by her husband, Paul, of 66 years; a brother, Kenneth McCarter; and a sister, Marion Jones.
A graveside service will be held Aug. 22 at 11 a.m. at Burr Cemetery Higganum. Mom, we love you and Dad and miss you both. God Bless you.
Angelina 'Angie' (Kuzaro) Wawroski,
Angelina “Angie” (Kuzaro) Wawroski, 96, of Moodus, wife of the late Frank E. Wawroski, died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, at Middlesex Hospital.
Angelina was born in Moodus, the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Barlog) Kuzaro. Prior to her retirement, she was employed by Brownell Manufacturing, as a netter, and the Frank Davis Resort. She was a communicant of St. Bridget of Kildare Church and a founding member of St. Bridget’s Ladies Guild.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Mathew Giardina of Moodus; a sister, Caroline Platek of Moodus; a brother, Joseph Kuzaro of Chester; a granddaughter and her husband, Marisa Giardina and Todd Bashor, of Mebane, N.C.; a grandson, Craig Giardina of Willow Spring, N.C.; also many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Catherine Bogdan and Mary Moskey; four brothers, Frank, Edward, George and Walter Kuzaro.
The family wishes to thank the compassionate staff at Harrington Court in Colchester for the loving care given to Angie and the dedicated staff at Middlesex Hospital Hospice Unit for their care and support during her stays.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2009, at 10 a.m., at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown, followed by an 11 a.m. funeral liturgy at St. Bridget of Kildare Church, Moodus. Burial will be in St. Bridget of Kildare Cemetery. Helen (Branciforte) Erdman
Helen (Branciforte) Erdman, 90, wife of the Late Richard Erdman of 100 Rose Circle, died Wednesday at Middlesex Health Care following a brief illness.
She was a member of St. Sebastian Church and prior to her retirement was employed by the Middletown school system. She was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Anna Branciforte.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Walter Stasiewski of Middletown; a son, Edward Erdman of Arizona; a sister, Rose Marino of Middletown; two grandchildren, Aaron and Edward Carl Jr. and a great-granddaughter, Aurora.
Funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. D’Angelo Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Melissa Marie Tirado
Melissa Marie Tirado, 36, of Middletown, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 29th. Born in Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of Patricia Corcoran of Middletown.
Besides her mother, she is survived by a son, Joseph M. Tirado, and her daughter, Kaylani M. Graham, both of Middletown. She is also survived by her loving family of brothers, sisters, Godmother, aunts, uncles, cousins, many nieces and nephews and her partner, Richard Carnegie of Middletown.
A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, August, 31st at 10:00am at St Patrick-St Anthony Church, 285 Church Street, Hartford.
Wasyl Shulewsky

Wasyl Shulewsky, 82, of Willimantic, beloved husband of Maria Shulewsky, died Saturday, 1/15/05, in the Haven Health Center of Windham.
He was born Jan. 14, 1923 in Czesnyky, Ukraine the son of Mykola and Katerina (Izak) Shulewsky.
He served in the Ukrainian Underground Forces in operations against Nazi and Soviet invaders. He came to the United States in 1949, staying briefly in PA and then settling in Willimantic.
He was a founder, past president and member of St. Marys Ukrainian Catholic Church. He was a founder and secretary of the local branch of the Providence Association, served on their regional council and their board of directors. Pope John Paul II awarded Wasyl, the Meritorius Service Award and the Pro Ecclesia Dei Medal for his service to the sick and his support of the Church. He was a past officer and member of the Ukrainian National Home and member of the local branch of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America. He had been employed by the Electro Motive Co in Willimantic.
Besides his wife, his survivors include a son, Michael and his wife Helena and their son, Paul; a daughter, Maria Cezus and her husband, Joseph and their daughters: Adrianne and her husband, Michael and Larissa and her husband, Andrew. He also leaves cousins in Pennsylvania and Ukraine. He was predeceased by his first wife, Eva.
His Panakhyda Service will be Tuesday, 1/18/05, at 9:30 a.m. in the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic, followed by a procession to St. Marys Ukrainian Catholic Church for the celebration of the Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. The burial will follow in St. Michaels Cemetery in Glastonbury. Calling hours are Monday, from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Panakhyda Service at 7 p.m.
Rose D. Pageau

Rose D. Pageau, 92, of Willimantic, beloved wife of Leo J. Pageau, died Saturday, 1/8/05, in St. Francis Hospital in Hartford.
She was born July 6, 1912 in Beverly, MA the daughter of Antonio and Theresa (Catto) Sacco.
Mrs. Pageau was a Dietician, employed by the University of CT, retiring many years ago. She had served as President of the A.A.R.P. Chapter 3118 from 1978 to 1988. She was a communicant of St. Marys Church in Willimantic.
Besides her husband, her survivors include a nephew, Donald Sacco of New York and Florida. She was predeceased by four sisters: Mary Sacco, Emma Sacco, Adeline Sacco and Josephine Sacco.
Her Graveside Service will be held Thursday, 1/13/05, at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Cemetery in Windham. There are no calling hours.

Fred A. Saucier

Fred A. Saucier, 76, of Willimantic, beloved husband of Gloria (Cote) Saucier, died Tuesday, January 04, 2005, in Windham Hospital.
He was born July 11, 1928 in Ashland, ME the son of David and Mathilda (Therriault) Saucier.
Mr. Saucier was a mechanic employed by the J. S. Nasin Co. for 45 years, retiring in 1998. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of Word War 2 and a communicant of St. Marys Church in Willimantic.
Besides his wife, his survivors include two sons, Fred Saucier, Jr. and his wife, Deborah of Willimantic and Lance Saucier and his wife, Cindy and their children, Michael and Jessica of Coventry; two daughters, Jane Thiffeault and her husband, Michael of Columbia and Karen Mitchell and her husband, John and their son, John of Willimantic. He also leaves a brother, Cecil Saucier of Port St. Lucie, FL and numerous nieces and nephews.
His Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, 1/12/05, at 10 a.m. in St. Marys Church in Willimantic. There are no calling hours.

Simone (Briere) Vertefeuille

Simone (Briere) Vertefeuille, 93, of Willimantic, widow of Benoit Vertefeuille, passed away, peacefully on New Years Eve, 12/31/04, in Douglas Manor in Windham.
She was born Feb. 12, 1911 in Lowell, MA the daughter of Eugene and Albina Briere.
She was employed at the American Thread Co. and the Electro Motive Co. for many years before her retirement. Simone had volunteered over 6000 hours of dedicated service to the Windham Community Memorial Hospital. She was a communicant of St. Marys Church, and a member of St. Marys Guild and the Chaplin Seniors.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and in February, would have become a great, great grandmother. During her life she was an extremely talented seamstress and knitter. She enjoyed having breakfast out with her children and living independently, until her recent illness. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
Her survivors include a daughter, Jeannette Herrick and husband, Richard Herrick, Jr. of Windham and Waterford, ME, a son, Albert B. Vertefeuille and wife, Judith (Bloch) of Lebanon. She also leaves a brother, Roland Briere of Florida; eight grandchildren and their spouses: Deborah and Robert Brackett of Griswold, Joni Herrick and Mark Greene of Manchester, NH, Dale and Alanna Herrick, Mark and Susan Herrick, Matthew and Cynthia Vertefeuille of Windham, Karin and Gregory Carver of Columbia, Michael and Donna Vertefeuille of Storrs and Robin and Antony Provost of Falmouth, MA. Also surviving are nineteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers: Albert, Raymond, Henry and Homer and sisters: Doris, Antoinette, Beatrice, Yvonne and Alice.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, 1/6/05, at 11 a.m. in St. Marys Church in Willimantic. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Windham. Relatives and friends may gather for calling hours at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.

Louis J. Vertefeuille, 90, of Windham, husband of the late Anna (Giordano) Vertefeuille, died Monday, 2/7/05, in Windham Hospital.
He was born August 21, 1914 in Willimantic the son of Joseph and Flora (Pothier) Vertefeuille.
He was a Typesetter employed by the American Thread Co. for 44 years. Louis was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a communicant of St. Marys Church in Willimantic.
His survivors include three sons: Roger Vertefeuille and his wife, Yvette of North Windham, Vincent Vertefeuille and his wife, Linda of Bradenton, FL and Laurence Vertefeuille of Willimantic; two daughters: Dorothy Munoz and her husband, Anthony of Niantic and Rose Marie Guay and her husband, Norman of North Windham, ME. He also leaves a sister, Theresa Horn of Windham, a brother, Roland Vertefeuille of Rome, Italy, ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, 2/12/05, at 10 a.m. in St. Marys Church in Willimantic. Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Windham. The family will receive friends Friday, from 6 to 8 p.m. and again Saturday, from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. at the Bacon Funeral Home, 71 Prospect St. Willimantic.

Anna Pauline (Giordano) Vertefeuille, 89, of Willimantic, beloved wife of Louis J. Vertefeuille, died Tuesday, 12/28/04, in Douglas Manor.
She was born April 3, 1915 in Willimantic the daughter of Vincenzo and Angelina (Galino) Giordano.
She was a member of the St. Anne Society and a communicant of St. Mary's Church.
Besides her husband, her survivors include three sons: Roger Vertefeuille and his wife, Yvette of North Windham, Vincent Vertefeuille and his wife Linda of Bradenton, FL and Laurence Vertefeuille of Willimantic; two daughters: Dorothy Munoz and her husband, Anthony of Niantic and Rose Marie Guay and her husband, Norman of North Windham, ME. She also leaves a sister, Crucie Tellier of Windham, ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
