STEWARD, BARBARA
Barbara Steward (Bobby), of New Haven died at Fowlers Nursing Home in Guilford at age 82, after spending 4 months of precious time with friends and family. Bobby was born in Constantinople, Turkey (now Istanbul) and lived with her missionary parents in Turkey, Syria, and Lebanon. She moved with her parents and sister to the States at age 13 and lived in Kansas and New York City before settling in Connecticut in 1957. Bobby was a Professor of Occupational Therapy at Quinnipiac University, nurturing and launching the careers of hundreds of occupational therapists. After retirement, she continued her lifetime passion for learning, taking classes at the Institute for Learning in Retirement which included Scottish dance and Japanese floral arrangement. She was a key member of the community where she lived on Nash St. in New Haven, and active in the Unitarian Society. Her second career was that of a story teller. In the character of Mother Goose and with her tireless companion Goosey Gander, she became a well known story teller, traveling throughout CT delighting children and their parents. In recognition of her efforts she received The Barbara Reed Award for distinguished and outstanding service to the storytelling community. She is survived by her sister Eleanor Smyers, daughter Pamela Harding, son-in-law David Harding, two sons Richard & Scott Steward and four beloved grandchildren. She is also survived by her devoted companion, Manny Liebenson and their dog Molly. Bobby brought tremendous joy to the lives she touched, and will be dearly missed. A Memorial Celebration of her Life will be on Wednesday, January 2 at 10 AM at the Unitarian Society, 700 Old Hartford Turnpike, Hamden, CT. NUZZELILLO, ELVIRA "VERA" CENIMO
Elvira "Vera" Cenimo Nuzzelillo of 159 Parker Farms Rd, Wallingford died at home December 9, 2007. She is the wife of the late Andrew Nuzzelillo. Vera was born in New Haven November 5, 1923 daughter of the late Antonio and Palma Bove Cenimo. She worked for the New Haven Clock Co. and later for the Atwater Senior Center and Bella Vista Senior Center and most recently for the Community Action Agency. She loved playing bingo, taking bus trips, and dancing. She was the "belle of the ball." She is the mother of Andrea DePino, Alfred and Richard Nuzzelillo. Sister of the late Rose DePalma, Millie DeSimone, Nicholas, Anthony, and Raymond Cenimo. Step sister of the late Terry Minchinko, Ann Perillo, and Rose Ciolino. Grandmother of Joshua, Jessica, Shannon, Dawn, Jackie, Wendy, Taylor, Andrew, Kelly, and the late Jamin Nuzzelillo. Also survived by 13 great grandchildren. FEDERICO, LOUIS M.
Louis M. Federico, age 82, of Derby entered into eternal rest on Monday, Dec. 10. 2007 at the Griffin Hospital, Derby. He was the devoted husband for 61 years of Claire Falcone Federico. Mr. Federico was born in Derby on May 10, 1925 son of the late Aniello and Mary Benanto Federico and was a life long Derby resident. Louis was an employee of the former B.F. Goodrich Company and then Sikorsky Aircraft where he worked in the shipping department until his retirement. He proudly served his country as a member of the US Navy during WW II. He will be greatly missed by his beloved grandson Ryan Federico, caring niece and nephew Helen and Daniel Marini and several other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Neil Federico, brothers Michael, Joseph and Charles Federico and sisters Rose DAgosa and Ruby Sardo. His funeral will leave the Edward F. Adzima Funeral home, 253 Elizabeth St., Derby on Wednesday at 9:00 am for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in St. Judes Church in Derby. His burial will follow at Mt. St. Peter Cemetery. FITCH, JOHN HAROLD
John Harold Fitch, of Titusville, FL and West Haven, Ct, died on Sunday, December 8, 2007 after a long battle with cancer. He was 78, John was born in Ashland, KY on December 2, 1929 and lived in Ashland and Philadelphia, PA before joining the U.S. Air Force at age 18. After his enlistment in the Air Force, John joined the Army, where he stayed for 30 years in both active duty and reserve status; becoming a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. During his time in the Army he was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. He would eventually obtain Jump Master status with the 82nd, and also received his Korean jump wings. At the age of 48 he was qualified as a US Army Special Forces Green Beret. John was also a career law enforcement officer, beginning with the Norfolk, VA Police Department where he held the distinction of being that citys first motorcycle patrol officer. Later in his career John would come to work for the Titusville Police Department where he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and also had the distinction at the time of being the only motorcycle officer for that department. After retiring from his service related careers, John worked at Kennedy Space Center for Morton Thiokoi, where he was tasked with preparing the solid rocket boosters for the space shuttle. John was also very active in the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks and was past Exalted Ruler of the West Haven, Cocoa, and Titusville lodges. He was also a member of the Masons and the Scottish Rite. John is survived by a sister, Carol Stephan of Titusville and two sons, Lawrence Fitch of Melbourne and Charles Quesenberry of Rising Sun, MD. A service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, December 15th at North Brevard Funeral Home, Titusville, followed by a Military Honor Guard Ceremony at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, also in Titusville. Joe DeSandre, 35, of Meriden, died suddenly on Thursday, December 6, 2007 while on business in Florida. LEWONCZYK, HENRY R. "HANK"
Henry "Hank" R. Lewonczyk, age 64, of Ansonia, beloved husband of 27 years of Judy (Marshall) Lewonczyk, died on Friday, December 7, 2007 at Yale New Haven Medical Center after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on July 12, 1943 in Scranton, Pennsylvania to the late Henry P. and Mary Ann Stone Lewonczyk. He was a retired welder for Allied Signal in Stratford. He enjoyed his many hobbies which included gun smithing, fishing, boating and a great love of Native American artifacts which he collected. Hank loved cars and motorcycles, especially his Mustangs. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by two sons, Robert Lewonczyk and his wife, Susan and Christian Lewonczyk, both of Stratford; one daughter, Cindy Prosenak and her husband, Andrew of Stratford; one sister, Mary Ann Borquez of South Carolina; his mother-in-law, Louise Marshall of Bridgeport; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several aunts, uncles, cousins & nieces & nephews. Louise Geraci Anastasia of 137 Middletown Avenue North Haven died December 9, 2007 in the Hospital of St. Raphael. She is the wife of the late Salvatore Anastasia. Mrs. Anastasia was born in Springdale, Pennsylvania, September 27, 1913 a daughter of the late Salvatore and Jennie Lavalla Geraci. Her lifes work was in the food business and real estate. The last restaurant she owned and managed was the Ninety One Steakhouse in North Haven. She is the mother of Philip Palma and his wife Alice of Branford and the late Patricia Ann Bernardo and Andrew Anastasia. Sister of Philip Geraci and the late Virginia Nicolella, Josephine Sette, Lawrence, Michael, Anthony, Sam and Leo Geraci. Also survived by 10 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, many beloved nieces and nephews and her special friend and companion Ken Guiles. Charles Ward Werner, 29, of Leonard Rd. Hamden passed away at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Bronxville, New York on April 11, 1978 to Robert and Elizabeth Ordemann Werner. Besides his parents, Charles leaves his brother Christopher Werner of Hamden, his Aunt, Doris Snyder of Celebration, FL, Uncles, Stephen R. Ordemann of Waynesburg, PA, and Carl W. Ordemann of New York City. Charles is a graduate of the Cheshire Academy and studied at Northeastern University and Albertus Magnus College. Muriel Frances Conners, 66, of Westbrook, passed away on December 8, 2007 after her courageous 5 year battle with cancer. Born on May 26, 1941 in New Haven, CT, Muriel is the daughter of Walter Francis and Genevieve (Buckley) Lewis. Muriel leaves behind her husband of 20 years John Conners and her loving family Kathie Kniffin, Pamela Niles, Anthony Kniffin, Tammy Sutherland, Frank Kniffin, Tracy Brooks and Kelly Prevost, numerous grand children, great grandchildren and many friends. Muriel loved to draw, paint and color. She enjoyed camping at Wolfs Den Family Campground. She loved gardening and riding motorcycles. She worked for many years as a CNA in Home Health Care and in numerous convalescent homes in the area. Above all, Muriel cherished all the time she spent with her loving family. Born in New Haven on October 24, 1932; daughter of the late George T. and Lauretta Kelly Hines. Edna had worked in communications for the Hospital of St. Raphaels for over 25 years until her retirement; was a member of the Sweet Adelines; an avid bowler at the Cherry Hill Lanes and an avid golfer. Francis W. Spencer, husband of Dora Belbusti Spencer of East Haven, died December 10, 2007, at the Connecticut Hospice. He was born in West Haven, on Nov. 6, 1920, son of the late William and Anna Farrell Spencer. He is survived by; a son, Jeffrey (Georgia) Spencer of East Haven; daughters, Susan (Brian) Wood of East Haven and Candace (Mel) Poole of Thurmont, MD; grandchildren, Joshua and Lauren Poole, Christopher, Jennifer and Jeffrey Spencer II; and great-grand;child, Elijah Spencer. He was also the beloved uncle of Mary Speringo and David Belbusti of East Haven. He was predeceased by a brother, William Spencer. He served with the U.S. Navy Seabees during WW II and was the fourth Commander of the American Legion, Foxon Post 175. He had been an electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 90. Mr. Spencer was responsible for obtaining house to house delivery of mail for the Glenmoor Development in East Haven. Elizabeth "Betsy" Enright, wife of the late Francis C. Enright of Hamden and formerly of West Haven, died Monday, December 10, 2007, at The Hamden Health Care Center. She was born in East Orange, NJ, on Nov. 7, 1918, daughter of Edwin and Pattie Johnson Sterns. Prior to retirement, she was a salesperson for SNET Yellow Pages. She was a member of the Mount Carmel Congregational Church. She leaves: three daughters, Richelle W. Robinson of Palm Bay, FL, Patricia W. Johnson of Alhambra, CA, and Susan E. DeGennaro of Hamden; and six grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Edwin A. Sterns and a sister, Caroline S. Botelle. Madelyn Bauscher, of Guilford, originally of New Haven, died Sunday, December 9, 2007, Alpharetta, GA. She was the wife of the late Bernard R. Bauscher, Sr. Born in New Haven, Sept. 20, 1919, daughter of the late John and Madelyn Wrenn Smith. Mother of Bernard R. Bauscher, Jr. of Guilford, Bernice Mason of Guilford and Margaret Close of Alpharetta, GA. Sister of Robert Smith of West Bloomfield, MI, Frances McCarthy of Wallingford, and Helen Sweeney of Mission, TX. Also survived by six grandchildren, Maxwell E. Bauscher, Timothy and Christopher Mason and Angie, Kyle and Kerry Close. Predeceased by a grandson, Thomas Bauscher and an infant brother. Thomas Francis Linehan Sr.
Thomas Francis Linehan Sr., 84, of Cromwell, beloved husband of Dorothy (McIntyre) Linehan for 62 years, passed away Tuesday morning, Dec. 9, at Middlesex Hospital. Born in Middletown, he was the son of the late Thomas F. and Mary (Lemieux) Linehan.
Tom lived in Cromwell for 58 years, where he was a member of St. John Church, Knights of Columbus Desoto Council No. 6 and the Cromwell Senior Bowling League. He worked at Standard Knapp for 44 years, retiring in 1987, and was a World War II U.S. Navy combat veteran, serving in the South Pacific.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Thomas “Tim” Linehan Jr. and his wife, Doreen, of Chalfont, Pa., James A. Linehan and his wife, Kathleen, of Tampa, Fla., and Kevin J. Linehan and his wife, Deborah, of Cromwell; two daughters, Karen L. Bragg of Middletown and Carol Linehan of Cromwell; a sister, Carol Moriarty of Rocky Hill; nine grandchildren, Micole E. Linehan, Seth A. Linehan, Stefan Linehan and his wife, Yuko, Nick Linehan and his wife, Samantha, Brian Linehan and his wife, Liz, Melissa Linehan, Justin Linehan, Naomi Bragg and Simone Bragg; three great-grandsons, Kaisei, Ryusei and Thomas Linehan; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Middlesex Hospice Unit and Cromwell Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center for wonderful care and family support.
