Dominic M. Ceravone, 89, of Ansonia Road, Woodbridge passed away March 24, 2010 in The CT. Hospice, Branford. He was the husband of the late Lucy Masselli Ceravone. Mr. Ceravone was born in New Haven Nov. 4, 1920, son of the late Joseph and Mary Salerno Ceravone. He worked at City Printing for several years prior to his retirement. Prior to that, he worked for Weinstein Roofing Co. He is survived by his sister in law, Carmel Serio of East Haven and his friend and neighbor, Deborah Schlegal. He was predeceased by 8 brothers, Leonard, Charles, Frank, John, Peter, Pat, Anthony & Angelo Ceravone; and 5 sisters, Margaret Ceravone, Frances Festa, Mae Stillings, Rose Smith & Mary Prosenperi. Edwin R. Ciocca, 92, of 2508 Whitney Ave., Hamden passed away March 20, 2010 in The Connecticut Hospice Branford. He was the loving husband of Michelina Masella Ciocca. Mr. Ciocca was born in New York City on May 23, 1917, son of the late James and Louise Perrella Ciocca. He graduated from LaSalle Military Academy on Long Island and from Villanova University. Prior to his retirement, he was a foreman/supervisor for Casco Auto Parts in Bridgeport. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, James E. (Christine) Ciocca of Northford; a daughter, Marie Ciocca of Hamden; and two grandchildren, Lauren and James E. Ciocca Jr. Funeral from The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Barbara Kassakian Bowe, 60, of Bridgeport Health Center, formerly of West Haven, passed away March 19, 2010 in Bridgeport Hospital. Born in New Haven Nov. 21, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Sarkiss Kassakian and Mary Skrak Kassakian. She lived in West Virginia for many years before returning to Connecticut. She is survived by two sons, Charles Smith and James Jones and a daughter, Karen Smith, all of West Virginia; a sister, Edith Gadar Carbone of Hamden; and six grandchildren. William Pascale, 88, of Girard Ave., New Haven died March 17, 2010 in The CT. Hospice, Branford after a lengthy illness. He was born in New Haven Nov. 5, 1921, son of the late Valentine and Marie Orico Pascale. Capt. Pascale joined the New Haven Police Dept. in 1949. In 1955, he was assigned to the Special Services Division, then known as the “SS”. In that capacity, he was a tireless crusader against illegal gambling activity in the city, years before the establishment of the Conn. Lottery. He rose thru the ranks, being promoted to Sergeant in 1956; Lieutenant in 1962 and Captain in 1967. He retired from the NHPD in 1969 and, in 1970, was appointed State Bail Bond Commissioner where he served for ten years. In 1956, he received a commendation for his part in the apprehension of an armed burglar who had broken into a store on Crown St. He is survived by daughters, Valerie Gaetano and Patricia Apicella, both of East Haven, Dawn Pascale of Florida., Patty Ridgeway of New Haven, Annette Woolley of Naugatuck and Stacey Smith of New Hampshire; sons, Frank Florenzano of Westbrook and Anthony Florenzano of Norwich; a sister, Ann Bellucci of West Haven; 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Allan W. “Ticky” Pascale; wives, Louise Pascale & Edwina Florenzano. and two brothers, Joseph & Thomas Pascale.

Anthony R. Criscuolo, 82, of Hamden and Sarasota, FL. passed away March 17, 2010 in Sarasota Memorial Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth Paolillo Criscuolo. Mr. Criscuolo was born in New Haven May 20, 1927, son of the late Anthony J. and Mary Cordone Criscuolo. He worked as a cost control engineer for the former A.C. Gilbert Co. until they closed and, later for Homer D. Bronson Co. in Seymour. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and received a public service award from Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz in 2008 for his exemplary service. Josephine Ferriolo Maturo, 93, formerly of 315 Eastern St., New Haven and Demarest Drive, Orange, passed away March 14, 2010 in The Arden House, Hamden after a lengthy illness. Born in New Haven July 9, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Paolina Barbaresi Marcantognini. She worked as a seamstress for many years prior to her retirement and was a member of the 315 Club at Bella Vista. She is survived by her son, Ralph Ferriolo of Hamden; her sister, Susie Juliano of New Haven; a grandson, Jason and his wife, Deanna; two great grandchildren, Jason & Mackensie; and several nieces & nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Vincent Ferriolo; her former husband, Eugene Maturo and her sister, Nellie Mancini. Oxford, CT.: Wayne W. Howard, age 58 of Oxford, entered into peaceful rest Dec. 9th at the Griffin Hospital, Derby; he was the beloved husband of Carol (Zavednak) Howard. Mr. Howard was born March 29, 1949 in Cleveland, OH, son of the late Sherman and June (Monroe) Howard. Wayne was a retired Graphic Artist and was an Honor Graduate from Wesleyan University, Middletown where he was awarded his Bachelors of Art Degree. Mr. Howard was a Bible-based Christian. In addition to his wife Carol, Wayne leaves his loving family including his mother-in-law, Theodora Zavednak of Derby, two brothers-in-law, Michael Zavednak and his wife Doreen of Berthoud, CO., and Richard Lenehan and his wife Janice of Derby, special cousins, Jeanne Lucille Monroe of Cleveland, OH. and Barbara Dalton of Grand Rapids, MI, and aunt and uncle, Jeanne and Merritt Dalton of Grand Rapids, MI, several additional nieces, nephews, and cousins and many loving friends. Milford, CT. Dec. 11, 2007, Seymour (89) died at Milford Health Care Center after a long illness, he was the loving husband of Naomi K. Press (predeceased), son of Max & Celia Press (predeceased), the brother of Helene Fluss (predeceased). He is survived by a brother, Albert Press, Florida, daughter, Ronni Mandell, W. Iris Alderman, 64, of Ansonia died Dec. 10, 2007. She was born in New Haven, Aug. 17, 1943 daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Sonia Malishewsky Alderman. She was a graduate of the Stone Business School and worked as a data entry operator and later as a bartender at Wags. She was an avid football fan and enjoyed vacationing in Florida. She was the sister of Harold Alderman of Pembroke Pines, FL, Doris Lettick of Pompano Beach, FL, Barbara Coughlin of Ansonia, Irwin (Joe/Butch) Alderman of West Haven and Sharon Alderman of Milford. Elvira "Vera" Cenimo Nuzzelillo of 159 Parker Farms Rd, Wallingford died at home December 9, 2007. She is the wife of the late Andrew Nuzzelillo. Vera was born in New Haven November 5, 1923 daughter of the late Antonio and Palma Bove Cenimo. She worked for the New Haven Clock Co. and later for the Atwater Senior Center and Bella Vista Senior Center and most recently for the Community Action Agency. She loved playing bingo, taking bus trips, and dancing. She was the "belle of the ball." She is the mother of Andrea (Joseph) DePino, Alfred and Richard (Margaret) Nuzzelillo. Sister of the late Rose DePalma, Millie DeSimone, Nicholas, Anthony, and Raymond Cenimo. Step sister of the late Terry Minchinko, Ann Perillo, and Rose Ciolino. Grandmother of Joshua, Jessica, Shannon, Dawn, Jackie, Wendy, Taylor, Andrew, Kelly, and the late Jamin Nuzzelillo. Also survived by 13 great grandchildren. Joseph John Zawatsky, 98, of Madison, formerly of Coconut Creek, Florida, passed away on December 10, 2007 at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford. He was predeceased by Olga, his beloved wife of 68 years. Joseph leaves behind his daughter, Helen Kobernusz of Madison, granddaughter Karen Williamson and her husband Michael of Salem, MA., grandson William Kobernusz and his wife Kim of Denver, CO. He also leaves four great grandchildren, Emma, Eamon, and Casey Williamson and Kylee Ann Kobernusz. While retired in Florida, Joseph was an avid golfer and swimmer well into his nineties. Carl W. Pullen, 92, formerly of Ray Road, New Haven, passed away Jan. 27, 2009 in St. Raphael’s Hospital. He was the husband of the late Ruby D. Turner Pullen. Born in Bedford, VA. Aug. 15, 1916, he was the son of the late Rev. James Pullen & Mary Hobson Pullen. At one time, he was a molder and union steward at Bridgeport Brass. At various times, he was a truck driver, shoemaker, school crossing guard for the New Haven of Education, and security guard at Yale University. He was a masterful musician, directing choirs at several churches in Bridgeport and as a member of a quartet participating in the Inauguration of Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was also an accomplished bareback horse rider. He is survived by two sons, Carl O. Pullen, NHPD & CSP (ret.) of New Haven and Rev. Augustus “Butch” Pullen of Hamden; five daughters, Martha Everson and Jessie Kennedy, both of Hamden, Jimmie Reynolds, Rubye “Jackie” Daniels and Beulah Codrington, all of New Haven; daughters in law, Linda & Michelle Pullen; sons in law, Ret. Warden Roger Everson, Serge Reynolds & Ret. Chief Dennis W. Daniels, NHFD; a brother, Rev. Samuel Wade of Roanoke, VA.; sisters, Ethel Avery & Edith Tony of Roanoke, VA., Thelma Young of Annapolis, MD. & Dora Henderson of Lexington, VA.; 24 grandchildren, 70 great grandchildren & 9 great great grandchildren, and a host of godchildren. He was predeceased by brothers, Rev. Ottawa R. Pullen Sr. & Rev. Avery Pullen; a sister, Iva Pullen; and two grandchildren, Jillian & Paul Pullen.

Celestine I. Bishop, 65, of 715 Tuttle Ave., Hamden, passed away Jan. 22, 2009 in Greenwich Hosp. after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of 45 years to Albert “DeeDee” Bishop. Born in New Haven May 27, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Carolyn Cross and Charles Simmons. Until her retirement, she held an executive position with IBM. Besides her husband, she is survived by her loving and devoted children, Cherae Bishop of Washington, D.C. and Chad Bishop of Clarksburg, MD.; daughter in law, Kim Bishop; granddaughter, Peyton Noelle Bishop; a sister, Frances C. Pullen of Hamden; two brothers, John Simmons of Los Angeles and Harold Simmons of Raleigh, N.C.; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her step mother, Coreene Simmons; two brothers, Charles Simmons and Angelo Torello.

Marian Elizabeth Hoyt, 86, formerly of 339 Eastern St. died January 16, 2009 in Yale New Haven Hospital. Born in New Haven Jan. 13, 1923 she was the daughter of the late John G. and Nellie Hines Heinz. Mrs. Hoyt worked as a medical clerk for the VA Hospital and also was a veteran of WWII where she served as a sergeant in the WAC. She is survived by her 3 sons; James Hoyt of Fairfax Station, VA, Paul Hoyt of Litchfield Park, AZ, and Robert Hoyt of Marietta, GA. She was predeceased by her brothers John Heinz, Ass't.Fire Chief Paul W.Heinz, NHFD and Chief James Heinz, Orange P.D.; and her sisters, Dr. Harriet Tirman and Ruth Brown. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren.
