Joseph C. Mansi, 98, husband of the late Vincenza Chirico Mansi, passed away peacefully at home in Bayside, NY on Sept 17, 2010. He was born in New Haven July 21, 1912 a son of the late Guiseppe and Matilda Mauro Mansi. First working as a presser he eventually retired as the owner and CEO of Terry Hill Inc. and Collegiate Casuals Inc., both major manufacturers of women’s clothing. He was also a Past Exalted Ruler of Queensboro Elks Lodge in Elmhurst, NY. Mr. Mansi is survived by his sons; Joseph A. (Mary) Mansi of Glen Cove, NY and Neal R. (Laura) Mansi of Dix Hills, NY. He was predeceased by brothers: Raymond and Salvatore Mansi, and sisters; Madeline Iadonisi, Anna Furino, and Catherine Abate. Also survived by 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight) New Haven Wednesday from 6-9 PM and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Michael’s Church, 29 Wooster Pl., New Haven Thursday morning at 10:00. Interment in St. Lawrence Cemetery.

DOWNS, MARIE W.
September 10, 2010
Marie Whitney Downs, a 94 year resident of New Haven, died Sept. 10, 2010 in Beavercreek, Ohio at the age of 100. A former resident of Glen Haven Road in New Haven, she was the widow of Edward H. Downs. Born in New Haven Aug. 12, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Mary Bottolene Whitney. She was a 1928 graduate of Commercial High School and a 1930 graduate of New Haven Normal School (now SCSU). She worked as a claims adjuster with the Veterans Administration in Hartford for 42 years prior to her retirement in 1972. Throughout the years, she was active in many civic and service organizations including the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE), New Haven Chapter 257, and was a former State President of that organization. She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (Anthony) Negri of Beavercreek, Ohio; three grandchildren, Joseph A. Negri of Columbus, Ohio, Robert J. (Erin) Negri and Christina M. Negri; and a great granddaughter, Kaitlyn E. Negri, all of Beavercreek, Ohio; many nieces, nephews, great nieces & great nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Harriet K. Falcigno & Rita Klein; and two brothers, Clarence M. and Richard W. Whitney. Friends may call at The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight) New Haven Friday from 4 to 7 pm and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis Church, 397 Ferry St. Saturday, Sept. 18th at 9:00 AM. DA LUZ, LILLIAN
August 30, 2010
Lillian Clara Viera DaLuz, 82, of Victory Gardens, 309 Dixwell Ave., New Haven departed this life Aug. 30, 2010 in St. Raphael’s Hospital. Mrs. DaLuz was born in New Bedford, MA. Sept. 3, 1927, daughter of the late Maquelina Nobera Viera and Louis Manuel Viera. She graduated from Wilber Cross High School and enjoyed many activities while a member of the Dixwell Senior Citizens Organization and St. Martin dePorres Ladies Guild. She volunteered in many programs at St. Martin including the Soup Kitchen, Breakfast, Christmas Sharing, Thanksgiving Baskets, etc. In Sept. 2001, she received the Golden Citizen Recognition Award from Theta Epsilon Omega Chapter (AKA Sorority) and on March 9, 2008, she received the St. Joseph Medal of Appreciation from the Archdiocese of Hartford. Mrs. DaLuz is survived by two sons, Anthony (Ruth) DaLuz Jr. of New Haven and New Haven Firefighter Tyrone (Toni) DaLuz of Hamden; six daughters, Yvonne (Edward) Henderson, Carolyn & Denise DaLuz and April (Brian) Hagans, all of New Haven, Diane (Raymond) Nelson and Tanya DaLuz, both of Hamden; one brother, Louis Manuel Viera Jr. of New Haven; her former husband, Anthony DaLuz Sr. of Higganum; 20 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by a sister, Julia Viera. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Martin dePorres Church Friday, Sept. 3rd at 10:30. MONGILLO, CATHERINE
August 19, 2010
Catherine D’Angelo Mongillo, 90, formerly of 315 Eastern St. and Market St. in Fair Haven died Aug. 19, 2010 in Whitney Manor after a lengthy illness. She was the widow of Michael Mongillo. Mrs. Mongillo was born in New Haven Aug. 19, 1920, daughter of the late Salvatore and Theresa Iovieno D’Angelo. She worked for many years at the former W.T. Grant store in downtown New Haven and was past president of the Elks Club. She is survived by a son, Joseph A. (Laura) Mongillo of East Haven; a daughter, Katherine Mongillo of Guilford; a sister, Theresa Gagliardi of North Haven; and three great grandchildren, Summer Kathryn, Brock Adam and Ella Anne. She was predeceased by a daughter, Theresa Pellegrino; four brothers, Constantine, Anthony, Andrew and Frank D’Angelo; four sisters, Sue Friello, Concetta Fraulo, Virginia DeLauro & Jennie DiMartino; and a grand daughter, Kathie Terese Heckler. ANTONYSHYN, BOHDAN

Bohdan Antonyshyn, 84, died peacefully at home Aug. 14, 2010 after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Mary Dolishny Antonyshyn. Born in Ukraine on Nov 29 1925, he came to the United States in 1949. He worked as a tool and die machinist at Textron Lycoming in Stratford for 31 years prior to his retirement in 1990. He was very active in St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church and the Ukrainian Community. He was head of the Ukrainian National Home from 1973 to 1977. He served in the military in the Ukrainian First Division. Besides his wife, he will be deeply missed by his sister in law, Dr. Melania Antonyshyn and two nieces, Zenia & Irena and their children in Ukraine; his sister in law, Raissa Dolishny; nephews, Michael and his wife Lori Dolishny and their children, Diana, Michael & Lauren; John and his wife Lisa Dolishny and their children, Alyssa, Kayla and Briana; nieces, Natalie and David Bergeson; Nina and Joseph Regan and their children, Joe and Sammy; and dear friends, Christoforo and Lyuba Schiano. He was predeceased by his parents, Rev. Mychaylo and Osypa Antonyshyn, two brothers, Yaroslav and Zenon Antonyshyn, a sister, Irena Antonyshyn, brothers in law, Wasyl and Mychaylo Dolishny and his dear friend whom he regarded as a daughter, Maryanne (Marianka) Romanytch. CARASONE, FRANK JR.
August 11, 2010
Frank Carasone Jr. (Kaki) of Shady Knoll Health Care Center, Seymour, formerly of Woodbridge, CT entered into eternal rest Wednesday August 11, 2010. Mr. Carasone was born September 3, 1935, in Woodbridge, CT son of the late Frank and Roselina Carasone. Frank is better known to his family and friends as Kaki. In his earlier days he loved riding his bicycle, fireworks, and woodworking. He especially loved making wooden robots which he would lovingly give away to those he knew. He loved old movies, coloring in his coloring books, drawing and tracing. He loved to chat on the telephone and those he loved will miss hearing the phone ring. Frank possessed the mind and heart of an eternal child and made friends easily. He had a generous spirit and will always be remembered by his family for hosting his annual Christmas Eve grab bags, replete with handmade boxes, and always a surprise inside. He brought love and laughter to many lives. His memory will be cherished forever. Frank departs from us leaving his older brother Joseph P. Carasone of Hudson Falls, NY, his younger brother Raymond Carasone of Prospect, CT, his niece and guardian angel JoAnn Carasone Flannery husband Mathew and family of Seymour, CT, his nephew Joseph Carasone and wife Louise of Seymour, CT, his nephew Eric Carasone of Derby, CT and his girlfriend Judy, his niece Rosaria Carasone Harris and family of East Haven, CT, his nephew Robert Carasone and his wife Tammy and family of Naugutuck, CT, his nephew Christopher Carasone and wife Tricia and family also of Naugutuck, CT. He also leaves many cherished family members and friends. Our lives will not be the same without you in them, but you will live in our hearts forever. Thank you for the wonderful memories.
His funeral will depart the Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (Cor. Dwight), New Haven Saturday at 9:20 AM. Mass in Our Lady of the Assumption Mother Church, 1700 Litchfield Tpke. Woodbridge at 10:00. Friends and family may call Friday from 4-7 PM. Interment in East Side Cemetery.

BRUNELLI, EDWARD M.
August 5, 2010
Edward M. Brunelli, 93, of River Road, East Haven passed away Aug. 5, 2010 in the Masonic Home and Hospital, Wallingford. He was the beloved husband of Emma Guida Brunelli. Mr. Brunelli was born in New Haven Sept. 6, 1916, son of the late Pietro and Drusiana Brunelli. He was office manager for Spear Newman Inc. for several years prior to his retirement in 1983. During World War II, he served as a Technical Sergeant with the US Army in the European War Theater. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Edward M. Brunelli Jr. of New Haven; a daughter, Elaine Morgillo of York Beach, Maine; a granddaughter, Catherine Morgillo; and several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, James and Paul Brunelli and two sisters, Grace Brunelli and Bertha Franco. Funeral from The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. FITTER, HELEN A.
July 30, 2010
Helen A. Fitter, 83, formerly of 355 Ferry St., New Haven, passed away July 27, 2010 in Guilford House, Guilford. Born in Matamoras, PA. Aug. 12, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Ruth Setterlind Fitter. She worked for the former Berger Bros. in New Haven for many years and retired from Sealy Mattress Co. of East Haven. She was a member of East Pearl St. Methodist Church for more than 50 years. She loved music and played the piano and sang in the church choir. She was the sister of the late George W. (Mike) Fitter. She was the beloved aunt of Ann (Len) Farrell of Florida and George (Rae) Fitter of Branford. Also survived by 3 great nieces and 2 great nephews.

Tena Parise, 95, of West Haven passed away July 22, 2010 at Branford Hills Health Care Center, Branford. She was the beloved wife of the late Frank Parise. Mrs. Parise was born in New Haven Feb. 12, 1915, daughter of the late Michele and Immaculata Romano Palmieri. She and her late husband operated Frank’s Market on Congress Ave. in New Haven for many years prior to their retirement. She is survived by one daughter, Immaculate “Mac” Genna of West Haven with whom she resided; one son, Vincent C. (Gloria) Parise of East Haven; two sisters, Patty Annatone and Margaret Palmieri, both of West Haven; 10 grandchildren including Maria (Mark) Meyerholz and Ann Sawicki (Dave Zullo) who were her caregivers; 15 great grandchildren including Jenna & Mark Meyerholz, also her caregivers; as well as numerous nieces & nephews including Robert Pidskalny. She was predeceased by a son, Frank “Chuck” Parise; a daughter, Marie Sawicki; a grandson, Vincent Parise; a brother, Francis M. Palmieri; and five sisters, Mary Orsini, Frances Vanacore, Ann Popolizio, Adeline Mansi and Rose Pidskalny. The family would like to give special thanks to Maryann Jenczewski for her loving care and also to the staff at Branford Hills for their care and compassion. Mary Marcarelli “Auntie Mimi” DeGennaro, 97, of 37 Wooster Place, New Haven, died peacefully at home on July 7, 2010. She was the widow of Valentino DeGennaro. Mrs. DeGennaro was born in New Haven Jan. 1, 1913, daughter of the late Edmondo and Maria DeMennato Marcarelli. She is survived by two sons, Richard (Marcia) DeGennaro of Bradenton, FL. and Donald (Natalie) DeGennaro of East Haven; a sister, Rose Cusano of Hamden; 3 grandchildren, Christopher & Donald DeGennaro of Branford and Marisa Pickford of Maine and a great grandson, Thomas Pickford. She was predeceased by five brothers, Ralph J., Thomas R., Julius E., Joseph “Pip” and Dionisio “Mac” Marcarelli and a sister, Amalia Marcarelli. She was the aunt of Dr. Ralph Marcarelli, with whom she resided. Funeral from The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St (cor. Dwight) New Haven Saturday, July 10th at 10:00.
