Rosemary Ferrucci Cassidy, age 71, born in New Haven on August 15, 1936, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at the Connecticut Hospice of Branford, surrounded by her family and friends. Dominick P. Bova, 78, beloved husband of Janice Doyle Bova of Cecelia Dr, East Haven died December 13, 2007 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Cherished father of Ronald (Lori) Bova and Diane Bova both of East Haven and the late Darlene Bova. Loving grandfather of Ronnie, Carly and Nikki Bova. Brother of Mary Gambardella of Branford and the late August Bova. Son of the late Peter and Josephine Corso Bova. He was also predeceased by his first wife Patricia Melillo Bova. Prior to his retirement in 1992 he was a Sergeant with the East Haven Police Dept. for 30 years. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the Indian Neck Yacht Club. DONOVAN, VIRGINIA
Virginia Donovan, of Pinellas Park, Florida, wife of the late James Donovan, died suddenly on Saturday, Dec. 8th. Born April 12, 1930 in New Haven, CT, Virginia moved to Florida in 1981. She is survived by her sons, James, Jr., Gary, and Craig, as well as her five grandchildren and five cherished great-grandchildren. BUTTERWORTH, HENRY ("HANK")
ARNOLD Henry Butterworth, age 85, of Stratford, died peacefully on December 13, 2007. Mr. Butterworth was born in Bridgeport on July 22, 1922, to the late Nora Hart and Arthur Butterworth; he was a Fairfield resident for much of his adult life before returning to Stratford in 1995. He graduated from Stratford High School, and served as radio gunner on the USS Hornet in the Philippines Sea Battle of World War II, earning the US Navys Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism. Mr. Butterworth owned and operated Butterworth & Sons Air Freight Trucking Company from 1964 to 1989. He was a longtime member of Brooklawn Country Club and an avid golfer; Charter member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 9460 in Stratford; lifelong sports fan, sponsoring both Little League and Babe Ruth teams in Fairfield; especially dedicated to the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, New York Giants, and UConns basketball teams. Predeceased by wife Muriel Klingler of Fairfield, to whom he was married
for 56 years, and is survived by two sons Scott Butterworth of Stratford, and Mark Butterworth and wife Martha, a grandson Andrew Butterworth, all of North Haven. He was predeceased by a daughter Susan, a son Henry ("H.A."), brothers Kenneth (Tulsa, OK) and Lloyd (Stratford, CT), and a sister, Nora (Stratford, CT). After losing his first wife in 2002, he reconnected with and married
his high school sweetheart Arlyne Carrico of Stuart, Florida. She predeceased him earlier this year, and they are now both survived by the Carrico children - Philip ("Flip"), Vincent, Peter, Michael, and Marlene Carrico Stelly. HARDING, DAVID D.
David D. "Dave" Harding, 46, of 41 Howard Ave., New Haven passed away Dec. 11, 2007 in Yale New Haven Hospital following a long illness battling juvenile diabetes. He was the husband of Ruth E. Swanton. Born in New Haven Sept. 9, 1961, he was the son of John & Jean Viera Harding of Florida. He earned his bachelors degree at Syracuse in 1983. He began his sales career as a sales manager of rare book collections; worked in antique sales; became a financial advisor; and then a middle school teacher. He earned a masters degree in teaching in 1995 and a masters degree in science at Quinnipiac in 2001. David loved being a teacher, but, during his first position, his kidneys failed. Despite a kidney transplant donated by his Dad, he was unable to continue. An inspiration, he lived a full, yet short life. His teaching began again following the birth of daughter, Kate, age 5. A renaissance man, he will be missed for his laughter, wit and zest for fun, movies, music and learning. Beside his wife and parents, he is survived by a daughter, Katherine Grace Swanton Harding of New Haven; a brother, Jack (Vanessa Rose) Harding of Seymour and a sister, Kim (David) Vegliante of Wallingford; nieces & nephews, Samuel, Raymond, Maxwell & Mary of Seymour, Jack & Olivia of Wallingford. He was predeceased by his beloved grandmother, Olivia Veira and his aunt, Diane Radcliffe. Adeline Nargi Balzano of 14 Rice Terrace, Branford died December 12, 2007 in the Hospital of St. Raphael. She was the wife of the late Michael Balzano. Adeline was born in New Haven August 10, 1921 a daughter of the late Pasquale and Jennie Cicarelli Nargi. She had worked as a machine operator at AC Gilbert Co. and then Echlin Manufacturing. She is the mother of Michael (Barbara) and Richard Balzano. Sister of Mary Fallo and the late Edith Pantani, Josephine Triumfo, Bernard, Carmen, Marty, Armand and Baptist Nargi. SARKADY, DR. LESTER

Lester Sarkady was born to Irma Szekler and Louis Sarkady in September of 1922. Lester was their only son, and they loved him very much. Irma and Louis, referred to by their grandchildren as Nana and Papa, wanted to provide for their son in the old tradition, so that he could go farther than they had gone. Lester was a son of first generation Hungarian immigrants. His mother and father always remembered their language and the food of their home culture. They had a kind of migrant way about them. It was a reminder to Lester's children that coming from another country is truly part of being American. Lester was a very bright child and graduated early from high school, having skipped a number of grades. Lester went to NYU and got his Bachelor's degree and then went on to graduate from Columbia Dental School in New York in l945. This led to a long and joyous practice serving thousands of people. Les started his dental career in the Navy, then had a practice in New Haven, CT., and later in Ansonia, CT. He loved the craft of being a dentist, and loved serving people. Lester was known as a caring dentist, and he regularly served people of meager means, and always was there for them. He also delighted particularly in the children he took care of. His ethic as a dentist was like the family doctor. He practiced for 60 years. Lester met his wife-to-be, Doras Podoloff, while at dental school-she was studying to be a dental hygienist. As he was proud of telling the story, he knew he wanted to marry Doras from the very beginning of their relationship, and proposed to her soon thereafter. On one of his first dates, he took Dorey home by train, and in the snow, Jacob (Doras' father) insisted Lester stay overnight. This was the hearken of the future. Dorey was his love. He devoted himself to her. Meanwhile, as Lester and Doras lived their marriage and deepened their commitment to each other, they had two children-Marc David and Jill Ann. When asked by his son toward the last days of his life what mattered most to him in life, Lester said with a smile 'Family.' Lester was also a true citizen in the best sense. He always participated in the civic life of his community. He was active in Democratic Party politics, and also served on the Bethany Zoning Board of Appeals. He worked tirelessly with Doras and others, to eventually help Democrats get elected to run Bethany. Lester, and Doras were real citizens who believed to have democracy you had to make democracy work. Lester also worked hard to understand the suffering of the world. He was a daily 'email - buddy' always sending out an article, a question, a thoughtful provocation. Many of us would get those early morning emails and find joy in probing the meaning and the politics of life. He wanted to understand why things were the way they were, and what could be done to change and improve the world. One of Lester's not so secret joys was singing and acting in musical comedy. He worked, or more properly played, with a troupe of amateurs who performed musicals like 'My Fair Lady' and 'Guys and Dolls'. They gave the funds from their plays to the local school budget, and many a night his son and daughter would hear him singing (or should I say belting out) his songs from the basement where he practiced. He was the singing dentist. Probably one of Lester's greatest traits was his sense of humor, for which he was widely known. He always had a new joke to tell you (and sometimes an old one to tell you again). Toward his last days, he would tell the doctors and nurses jokes and always delighted them. He was well known at Whitney Center where he lived the last couple of years, and his last days, as a man of good humor and wit. One of Lester's other traits was a respect for the dignity of life. He lived his last days with grace, and a sense of serenity, that is very rare. We honor him today. He set an example for us all. Whether it was the way he cared for Dorey during her last few years, with such great dedication. Or whether it was the way he always held himself above the pain. He lived in a way that continues to set an example for us all. ANDERSON, EDWARD
Edward "Foo" Kefford Anderson, age 82 of New Haven & Derby, entered into eternal rest on Dec. 12. He was born in 1925 in Derby, and graduated from Ansonia H.S. Edward graduated from Long Island University where he excelled at basketball. A WWII Army Veteran, Edward is a retired educator from the Fair Haven Middle School. He is survived by his daughter Terry Anderson of New Haven & former spouse Elezena Anderson of Ansonia. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, 11:00 a.m. from The Jenkins-King Funeral Home, 12 Franklin St. Ansonia. Friends may call 10 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. He will be buried on Tuesday, 10:00 a.m. with Military Honors in Pine Grove Cemetery.
OLSEN, GEORGE
George Olsen, 93, of Elim Park in Cheshire, beloved husband of 68 years to Constance Olsen, passed away peacefully, December 12, 2007. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 12, 1914, to the late Thor and Boetta (Iversen) Olsen. Besides his wife, George leaves his brother Iver Olsen (Dorothy Olsen), sisters Elsie and Cecelia Olsen; children Judy Smith (Rev. George Smith), Linda Overman (Dean Overman), and Douglas Olsen (Edna Olsen); grandchildren Jeff Smith (Jennifer Smith), Jennifer Williams (Kevin Williams), Jaimee Smith, Joshua Smith, Elisabeth Bauman (Nathan Bauman), Christiana Overman, and Dulce Weller; great grandchildren Hayley, Caroline, Julianna, and Lily Smith, Mac, Harrison, and Ava Williams, Leif and Hayden Bauman, and Nicholas Weller. George was a partner in the New York accounting firms of Schutte & Williams and Harris, Kerr, Foster. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 15 at 11 a.m. in the chapel at Elim Park Baptist Home, 140 Cook Hill Road, Cheshire. SHELTON, ROGER
Roger Shelton, 73, of Bridgeport entered eternal rest Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at Saint Vincents Medical Center, in Bridgeport. He was born March 3, 1934 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Roger Shelton Sr. and Sarah Foster. He became a lifelong resident of Bridgeport. Roger attended Kimball High School in Welch, Virginia & West Virginia State University, He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 - 1958 and received the Purple Heart Award. He was also Executive Director of University Residential Facility Group Home for Boys, an avid golfer, and a great friend to many. He leaves to cherish his memory and mourn his passing 8 children: Roger (Elliott) Shelton of Atlanta, GA; Chad, Jeffrey, Terrianne & Tnori Shelton of Bridgeport; Sheila Payne and Valetia Tyree of West VA; Kelly Shelton of Williamston, NC; 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, aunt Roberta McCray, and cousin Robert Shelton, a large, extended family, and a host of relatives and friends; he also leaves a devoted and beloved companion, Morgan Margaret Petty. BUCCINO, HAROLD J.
Harold J. Buccino of Woodbridge, CT, known to his many friends as "Butch" passed away on December 9, 2007. He was the husband of Marjorie Falcigno Buccino. Butch was born in New Haven, December 8, 1920 a son of the late Vincenzo and Giovanna (Jennie) Distadio Buccino. After graduating from Commercial High School where he was an outstanding baseball and basketball player, he went on to play amateur and semi-pro basketball for the Albie Booth Boys Club, The Red Devils and several other area teams. He played baseball and was the captain for St. Johns, St. Michaels and the M&B; Bombers of the Industrial League. He later played fast pitch softball and competed in many State and New England Tournaments with the Arena Grille. He was inducted into the Basketball Tap Off Hall of Fame in 1988 and the Connecticut Fast Pitch Hall of Fame in 2000. Butch worked at M&B; Manufacturing during the war years and later at DSD Manufacturing. He was the father of Vincent (Robin), Richard and William Buccino and Anne (Richard) Katz. Grandfather of Brian, Dustin, James, Christopher and Michaela. Brother of the late Alice Villano, John, Louis, Ralph, William, Charles, James and Robert Buccino. MUNRO, CHERYL ANN
Cheryl Ann Munro, 48, of North Haven, passed away at her home on Friday, Nov. 30, 2007. She is survived by her beloved husband Derrick Munro, her sons Bryant, 24 and Brendan Flynn, 19 and her mother, Irene LaRocque Melillo of North Haven. She is also survived by her sisters, Eileen Morton and her husband Fred of North Haven, Susan Oviedo of Wallingford, her brother Dennis and his wife Frances LaRocque of North Haven, her sister-in-law Bernadette LaRocque of Powder Springs, GA., 2 step-brothers, Robert and Frank Melillo of Northford, 7 nieces and 6 nephews, 2 grand nieces and 2 grand nephews. Cheryl was predeceased by her father, Russell O. LaRocque of North Haven and a brother, Russell P. LaRocque of Powder Springs, GA. She was an employee of the North Haven Department of Community Services for over twenty years, and a gourmet cook who enjoyed preparing special meals for her loved ones. She will live on in the hearts of all those that loved her. May she rest in peace. A Memorial service will be held Sat., Dec. 15 at 10 am in St. Barnabas Church in North Haven.
