Maureen Oliveri, credit analyst
Maureen C. Oliveri of Ridgefield, a credit analyst, died at Danbury Hospital on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 25, 2004. She was 50 years old and the wife of Joseph R. Oliveri.
Mrs. Oliveri was born in White Plains, N.Y., on April 8, 1954, a daughter of Thomas Finn of Mount Kisco, N.Y., and the late Catherine Neary Finn. She lived in White Plains until she was about eight years old when she and her family moved to Mount Kisco.
She attended Mount Kisco schools and graduated from Manhattanville College in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and English. She earned a master’s degree in financial management, with thesis honors, from Pace University’s Graduate School in 1982.
For the past six years, Mrs. Oliveri had been a credit analyst with Verizon Capital Corporation in New York City. In previous years, she was with the Nippon Credit Corporation.
The Oliveris moved from Mount Kisco to Ridgefield in 1983. Mrs. Oliveri was a member of the Ridgefield Health Club and enjoyed running, snow skiing and physical fitness.
She was a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Church.
Besides her husband Joseph of 20 years, Mrs. Oliveri is survived by two daughters, Lauren T. Oliveri and Alicia-Leigh Oliveri, both of Ridgefield; her father Thomas Finn and her stepmother Jessie Finn; a brother, Thomas Finn of Long Island, N.Y.; a sister, Kathleen LaTronica and her husband Peter of Huntington; her mother-in-law, Giuseppina Oliveri of Mount Kisco; two stepbrothers, Earle White of Yorktown, N.Y., and Robert White of Nova Scotia, Canada; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A sister, Margaret Delgado, predeceased her.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Wednesday in St. Elizabeth Seton Church. Interment followed in Ridgebury Cemetery.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the Danbury Hospital Development Fund for Oncology Nursing Services, 24 Hospital Avenue, Danbury, CT 06810. The family expressed appreciation for “the loving care and concern the nursing staff provided Maureen and her family.”
Erna Russow, 92, fled Nazis
Erna Burmeister Russow of Pendleton, S.C., a former Ridgefielder, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, in the Anderson Area Medical Center. She was 92 years old.
Mrs. Russow, who was known as “Ennie” to friends and family, was born in Germany in 1912. She and her future husband, Dr. Erich Russow, fled Germany in 1936 and married in England in 1936. They then moved to New York, where they lived for many years.
In 1950, the Russows bought a weekend place on West Mountain Road, moving here full time in 1975 when Dr. Russow retired from his cardiology practice in Queens. They lived in Ridgefield until 1982, when they moved to Pendleton.
Dr. Russow died in 1999.
Mrs. Russow was accomplished in many of the needle arts, and was a longtime member of the Embroiders Guild of America. She enjoyed traveling, both in the United States and abroad, and cooking -- especially the baking of her native Germany.
She was, her family added, “fun-loving and devoted to her family.”
Mrs. Russow is survived by her five children: Stephen Russow of Pendleton, S.C., Elaine Russow of Colorado, Eric Russow of Peoria, Ill., Lilly Russow of West Lafayette, Ind., and Lloyd Russow of Philadelphia, Pa.; 10 grandchildren, including Ellen J. Russow and Allyson R. Lowe of Ridgefield, and Troy Russow of Hendersonville, N.C., formerly of Ridgefield; many great-grandchildren, including Jessica, Kristopher, Alexandra, Samantha, and Erika Lowe, all of Ridgefield; and one great-great-grandson, Zakary Lowe of Ridgefield.
Contributions in her memory may be made to a favorite charity.

Dixie A. Tuoti, 93, nurse, mother
Dixie Ann Jackson Tuoti of Ridgefield, a registered nurse who had lived here more than 50 years, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, at the New Milford Hospital. She was 93 years old and the widow of George Edward Tuoti.
A native of Metcalf, Ill., Mrs. Tuoti was born on Sept. 16, 1911, a daughter of John and Edna Jackson. She grew up in Danville, Ill., and graduated from Danville High School. In 1934, she graduated from the American Hospital Training School for Nurses in Chicago and began work as a registered nurse, both at Cook County Hospital and in private duty.
She met her future husband, a landscape architect, on a cruise to Bermuda, and the two were married in 1938. Mr. Tuoti had been working for Outpost Nurseries in Ridgefield, and the couple made their home on Tackora Trail.
During World War II, she taught home nursing in Ridgefield and helped prepare bandages for the troops.
After Mr. Tuoti died in 1962, she took additional training and received her Connecticut nursing license. Through the Danbury Nurses Registry, she worked as a private duty nurse with patients at Danbury, Norwalk, and New Milford Hospitals, and Glen Hill Convalescent Center.
“She was an excellent nurse,” said her daughter, Delia Ferrandino, who is also a nurse. “She was committed to the whole person, not just physical, but spiritual and emotional well-being.”
She continued to serve as a nurse until her retirement at the age of 72.
Over the years, Mrs. Tuoti had been a member of the Ridgefield Garden Club, St. Mary’s Rosary Society, and St. Mary’s Mother’s Club. She had also been a volunteer with the District Nursing Association.
“She was an excellent cook,” said her daughter, Carol Lorenzini. “She’s not Italian, but learned how to cook Italian from her mother-in-law, Pauline Tuoti.” Her specialties include braciole, sauces, and cheesecakes.
“All my friends wanted to stay over because her dinners were so delicious,” Mrs. Lorenzini said.
She gave “very creative birthday parties,” added Ms. Ferrandino.
“Mom was a very supportive mother,” Ms. Ferrandino said. “She gave excellent advice and was a good listener.”
Mrs. Tuoti also enjoyed gardening, and grew her own herbs for cooking.
Mrs. Tuoti is survived by five children: Thomas T. Tuoti of Mesa, Ariz., Carol Lorenzini of Arroyo Grande, Calif., James Tuoti of San Francisco, Calif., Michele Koury of Masontown, W.Va., and Delia Ferrandino of New Milford; 11 grandchildren, Thomas E. Tuoti and Krispin Tuoti of Mesa, Eric Lorenzini of Los Angeles, Calif., and Michael Lorenzini of Brooklyn, N.Y., Christopher, Keith and Chad Koury of Masontown, and Jason, Stephen, Clare and Elizabeth Ferrandino of New Milford, formerly of Ridgefield.
A brother, Robert Jackson, died before her.
Father Peter Lenox will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial Friday at 1:15 p.m. in St. Mary’s Church.
Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery at a later date.
Friends may call at the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street, on Thursday from 7 to 9.

Ella U. Walmsley, worked for Navy
Ella Urban Walmsley of Casa Torch Lane, a former Navy employee, died on Monday morning, Sept. 20, 2004, at Harborside-Glen Hill, Danbury. She was the widow of Merritt R. Walmsley.
Mrs. Walmsley was born in New York, N.Y., daughter of Stephen and Emilie Pausik Urban. She attended New York schools and was a civilian employee of the United States Department of the Navy, from which she retired.
She had moved to the area three years ago from Clearwater, Fla., and was a member of St. Mary’s Church
Mrs. Walmsley is survived by a brother, Joseph S. Urban, and a sister, Mathilde Urban, both of Ridgefield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ridgefield.
There will be no calling hours.
The Kane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Katherine Zembron, school worker
Katherine P. Zembron, a retired employee of the Board of Education of the City of New York, died at her Ridgefield home on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004. She was 80 years old and the widow of John A. Zembron.
Mrs. Zembron was born in Bayonne, N.J., on Aug. 9, 1924, the daughter of the late Nicholas and Tekla Mazowski Kostow. She attended New Jersey and New York City schools and graduated from Hunter High School in Manhattan.
Mrs. Zembron had been employed by the New York City Office of School Food and Nutrition Services for more than 25 years, the majority of which was spent at Francis Lewis High School in Flushing, N.Y. She retired in the early 1990’s.
Before relocating to Ridgefield in 1999, she lived in Bayside, N.Y., where for many years where she was an active member of her local church’s Catholic Daughters of America chapter and Rosary Society.
Mrs. Zembron is survived by a son, John T. Zembron and his wife Linda of Ridgefield; a sister, Stephanie Rusinak of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Anne Zembron of Ridgefield; a grandson, John E. Zembron of Ridgefield; and a niece and a nephew.
Her husband died in 1986.
Msgr. Laurence Bronkiewicz celebrated a Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, Sept. 28, in St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Ridgefield. Burial followed in Mount St. Mary’s Cemetery in Flushing, N.Y.

Anne Beardsley, longtime resident
Anne Marie Pokorny Beardsley of New Milford, a former longtime Ridgefield resident who had worked for Ethan Allen, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at the Candlewood Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in New Milford. She was 73 years old.
Mrs. Beardsley was born April 6, 1931, in New York City and grew up there. She attended the University of Miami where she met her first husband, Donald Detzer of Ridgefield.
The couple came to Ridgefield in 1956. After their divorce, she married James Beardsley of Ridgefield.
Mrs. Beardsley had worked at Benrus Corp. in Ridgefield and later, for 18 years, at the Ethan Allen corporate headquarters in Danbury.
She had been a member of the choir at the First Congregational Church.
She enjoyed music and art, including painting.
Mrs. Beardsley’s survivors include her son, Douglas A. Beardsley of Bethel; and two grandchildren, Dalton and Heather Beardsley of Bethel.
Services took place Wednesday at First Congregational Church.
Contributions in her memory may be made to the Deacon’s Fund, First Congregational Church, 103 Main Street.

Mary Brolin, 81, retired teacher
Mary E. Brolin of Ridgefield, a former teacher and medical secretary, died on Tuesday morning, Nov. 9, 2004, at Hancock Hall, Danbury. She was 81 years old and the widow of Edward M. Brolin, a longtime Ridgefield school administrator, who died in 2002.
Mrs. Brolin was born in Cambridge, Mass., daughter of James L. and Teresa Kearney Donovan. She attended Cambridge schools and graduated from Salem State Teacher’s College of Salem, Mass.
Mrs. Brolin was a retired elementary school educator.
A resident of Ridgefield for the past 42 years coming from Massachusetts, she was involved in her early years with the Cub Scout program of Ridgefield and was a medical secretary in the former practice of Dr. Arnold Benton.
In later years, Mrs. Brolin enjoyed traveling, collecting sports memorabilia and attending memorabilia shows throughout the United States.
Mrs. Brolin was a member of St. Mary's Church, Ridgefield.
She is survived by three sons, Colonel Edward M. Brolin, USAF (ret.) of Niceville, Fla., James M. Brolin and William E. Brolin, both of Ridgefield; a brother, James Donovan of Chesterfield, Mo.; a sister, Teresa Tansey of Brewster, Mass.; a granddaughter, Ashley Ann; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30 in St. Mary’s Church.
Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street, on Saturday from 9 to 10.
