Charlotte Partridge

Charlotte Partridge, 97 of East Providence, formerly of Putnam, CT, died Thursday, May 28, 2009 at the Orchard View Manor. She was the beloved wife of the late Leonard G. Partridge, They were married in 1932, and he died in 2001. Born June 24, 1911, in Norwich, CT, daughter of the late Charlotte and Theodore Pike.

She was educated in the Norwich School systems. Mrs. Partridge was very active in the Universalist Church in Norwich. She was employed as assistant executive secretary for the American Red Cross in Norwich from 1960 to 1965. In 1965, Mrs. Partridge accepted a position as Executive Secretary of the Quinebaug Valley Health & Welfare Council, now known as United Social & mental Health Council in Danielson. She was later promoted to Administrative Assistant a position she held until her retirement in June 1970.

Mrs. Partridge was a member of the Putnam Woman's Club in Putnam, and a member of the Day Kimball Hospital Women's Auxiliary.

She leaves a daughter Barbara Fahey and her husband Richard of East Providence, one grand-child, Cheryl Fahey of East Providence and three great-grand children in Pacific, Washington. She was predeceased by a sister Eleanor Geer, two grandsons Christopher and Dennis.

Funeral Service will be Sunday, May 31, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, CT. No calling hours. Burial in Grove Street Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory to the American Cancer Society.

Michael G. Espinosa

Michael G. Espinosa, 51 of South Main Street, Brooklyn, died Friday May 29, 2009 at the Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. He was born May 9, 1958 in Putnam, son of Irene (Boucher) Espinosa and the late George Espinosa.

He made his home in Brooklyn all his life. He was a painting contractor. At one time he was very active with his brother Bobby with sulky racing, a former member of the Sulky Racing Association. They raced in Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, and at the annual Brooklyn Fair. He enjoyed camping and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.

He leaves in addition to his mother Irene of Brooklyn, two sisters: Sandra Simmons and her husband Bruce of Brooklyn and Dale Larson and her husband William of Brooklyn, three nephews, two nieces, four great nephews, three great nieces, an uncle William Espinosa and numerous cousins. He was predeceased by his father George and his brother Robert, both in 1995.

A grave side service will be Friday June 5, 2009 at 11:00AM at Holy Cross Cemetery in Danielson. Donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 106 Route 32, Franklin, CT 06254 or the American Diabetes Assoc., 306 Industrial Park Road, Middletown, CT 06457. Arrangements by Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds Street, Danielson.

Samuel E. Schumacher, Sr.

Samuel E. Schumacher, Sr., 69, of East Woodstock, died Saturday, May 30, 2009, at the UMASS Medical Center in Worcester after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Judith (Dowling) Schumacher; they were married November 14, 1964. He was born in Burlington, VT, son of the late E. Weldon and Catharine (Clarke) Schumacher.

A graduate of Boston University and Worcester Polytechnic Institute School of Industrial Management. He was employed for over thirty years at Dexter Russell Company in Southbridge, MA. He had made his home in East Woodstock for thirty years, and six years in Harpswell, Maine, a member of the East Woodstock Congregational Church, was a 25 year member of the Muddy Brook Fire Department serving as a Lieutenant with the Engine Company. He was also a member of the Harpswell Neck Fire and Rescue for five years. He enjoyed working, restoring antique trucks and tractors, and also building clocks.

He leaves his wife Judith, his children: Sam Schumacher, Jr. and his wife Anne Fox of Bow, WA; Sarah Copeland and her husband Royce of Savanna, GA; a sister: Susan Pollard of Naples, FL; two grandchildren Miles and Catie Schumacher of Bow, WA, several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the East Woodstock Congregational Church, 220 Woodstock Road, East Woodstock, CT. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Muddy Brook Fire Department, PO Box 222, East Woodstock, CT 06244.

Gene E. Fafard, Sr.

Gene E. Fafard, Sr., 73, beloved father, native to Putnam, CT, died Sunday May 31st at Kindred Hospital in Arlington, TX. Mr. Fafard was predeceased by his wife of 39 years Irene (Gagnon) Fafard. Mr. Fafard resided in Grand Prairie, Texas with his daughter Christine Blanton who was his primary caretaker. He was born in Dudley, MA on April 10, 1936.

He is survived by his five children and their families: Cherie and Randy Jenkins of Grand Prairie, TX, Gene Fafard Jr. and Danielle Danielson of Thompson, CT, Christine and Kip Blanton of Grand Prairie, TX, Louis and Karen Fafard of Putnam, CT, and Debbie Reynolds of Georgia.

He also leaves 20 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mr. Fafard worked for most of his life as a master woodworker and was an active member of Family Fellowship Baptist Church in Arlington, TX. He was the President of the American Fence Association for four years in the 1970's and the previous co-owner of Apex Fence. He devoted himself to children's ministries through bus and puppet productions. He enjoyed working in his woodshop, being active in his church, walking and training his dog, and being the patriarch of his family. Mr. Fafard was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. He was a Sergeant serving with the 99th Field Maintenance Squadron, Strategic Air Command. He was trained and certified as a survival training and personal equipment specialist. Mr. Fafard was a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by a sister, Joanne Duboise, and three brothers, Roland Fafard, Alan Fafard, and Robert Fafard, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday June 6, 2009 at 10:15 AM from the Smith & Walker Funeral Home followed by a service at 11:00 AM in the Congregational Church of Putnam, 175 Main Street, Putnam. Calling Hours will be Friday, June 5, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home 148 Grove Street, Putnam, CT. Burial with Military Honors will be in Munyan Cemetery, Putnam.

Bruce Bardin

Bruce Bardin, 74, of Pomfret Street, Putnam, died Saturday, June 6, 2009 at home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Sylvia (Paquin) Bardin . He was born July 17, 1934 in Utica, NY, son of Robert and Edith (Pease) Bardin.

He had made his home in Putnam most of his life. He was a 1952 graduate of Putnam High School. Bruce was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the US Navy from 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1956. He served aboard the US Glacier and the US Lake Champlain. He graduated from Worcester School of Business Science with an Associate's Degree. He was employed at American Standard for 13 years in the IBM Data Processing Department, later he was employed by the State of CT DEP as a forest maintainer, retiring after 27 years and then was employed part time for the Putnam School System as FRC Security from 1998 to 2008. He has served on the Putnam ZBA since 1985, a member of the VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed going to NASCAR Races and going to his grandchildren's sporting events and dance recitals.

He leaves his wife Sylvia of 50 years, his son Brian Bardin and his wife Marcia of South Killingly, his daughter Sharon Gnatowski and her husband Michael of Moosup, four grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew, Eric and Jocelyn.

Funeral will be Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 9:15 AM from the Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Most Holy Trinity Church, 568 Pomfret Street, Pomfret, followed by Military Honors. Calling Hours will be Wednesday, June 10, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Smith and Walker Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to NECCOG, Animal Services, PO Box 759, Dayville, CT.

Eva A. Parent

Brooklyn - Eva A. Parent, 85, passed away peacefully Tuesday June 9th, at Pierce Memorial Baptist Home in Brooklyn surrounded by her family. She was a beloved wife to the late Roland J. Parent they were married January 2, 1946. Daughter of the late Lionel and Aurora Kerouack she was born on April 12, 1924 in Wauregan.

She lived her adult life in Foster RI. In her journey though life, family was her greatest passion. Celebrations and gatherings of her loved ones were her most enjoyable times. She will ever be remembered for her guidance, devotion and kind, gentle sprit.

She leaves her children: Mitchell Parent and his wife Cheryl of Foster, RI; Michael Parent of Dayville; Kathleen Poirier of Moosup; Vivian Stott and her husband Kenneth of Moosup; Phyllis Savoie and her husband Joseph Robert of Scotland, her Grandchildren: Thomas and his wife Tracy Poirier of Danielson; Renee Savoie and Kirk Laakso of West Hartford; Kimberly Parry and her husband Colin of Dayville; Nicole Papuga and her husband Patrick of Canterbury; Angela Stone and her husband Derek of Sterling; and Peter Parent of Sterling; 7 Great-Grandchildren: Tammy and Chelsea Poirier, Eeva-Liisa, Ian, and Everett Stone, Isabelle and Harrison Papuga, a sister Shirley Chattelle and her husband Armand of Voluntown and a sister-in-law Dorothy Kerouack of Brooklyn, and numerous special nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 3 brothers, Leo, Louis, and Adrian Kerouack, 2 sisters, Theresa Zastowsko and Dorothy Chattelle. Eva was a devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. And they were all her favorites. Her family would like to thank the professional staff at the Pierce Memorial Baptist Home for all the compassion and care they provided to "EVA".

Funeral service will be private, no calling hours. Donations may be made in her memory to the Mortlake Fire Company , PO Box 301, Brooklyn, CT 06234. Arrangements by Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds Street, Danielson.

Joseph G. "Jim" Courtois

Danielson - Joseph G. "Jim" Courtois, 92 of Terwilliger Road, Danielson, died Friday, June 12th, 2009 at home. He was the beloved husband of Ethel A. (Smith) Courtois, they were married April 1, 1977 in Webster, MA. He was born on February 8, 1917 Canada.

His family moved to Lowell, MA then to Plainfield following the textile industry. He was a communicant of ST Joseph Church in Dayville. He worked for 35 years at Pervel Industries where he was a supervisor, he then worked at Colt Plastics for 11 years, he retired in 1989. He was a family man first of all. He loved music, loved playing sports and was on the Eastern CT Championship Soccer Team in 1934. He was one of the Founding Fathers of the Moosup Little League in the late 1970's.

He leaves his sons: Rene Courtois and his companion Sally Bostich of Bakersfield, CA; Richard Courtois and his wife Jolene of Slidell, LA , stepsons: Timothy McDougall of South Killingly, Thomas McDougall and his wife Ann of East Killingly, brother, Normand Courtois of Phoenix, AZ, Regine Cataffo of Las Vegas, NV, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Marcel and Leo, and sisters, Margaret Courtois, Noella ST Pierre, Rita Gagnon and Collette Pierce.

The Funeral will be Monday, June 15 at 10:30 am from the Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds St, Danielson, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Church, 350 Hartford Pike, Dayville, CT. A calling hour will be Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home. Burial in ST Joseph Cemetery, Dayville.

Rita A. Furno

Rita A. Furno, of Latici Street, Putnam, died Friday, June 12, 2009, surrounded by her loving family, at home. She was the beloved wife of John E. Furno. Born September 11, 1937 in Winchendon, MA daughter of the late Archie and Winifred (Desman) Rumrill.

Rita has made her home in Putnam since 1986. She was a foster mother for the State of CT for fifteen years, she truly loved caring for the infants that were placed with her. She loved her Shih-Tzus, country music and camping. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She leaves her husband of 33 years, John, her sons: Ricky Caron of Putnam, Stephen Caron of Putnam, her daughter: Christina LaFlash of Putnam, siblings: Robert Rumrill of Thompson, Roger Rumrill of Norwich, Rachel Morin of Worcester, Roberta Clapper of FL and Rudolph Rumrill of FL, grandchildren, Stephen, Jr., Joseph, John, Christian and Savannah, a great granddaughter Kylie, nieces Tara and Laura, a sister-in-law Janet McCutcheon.

The Funeral Service will be Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam. Calling Hours on Tuesday from 1:00 to 2:00 PM. Burial in East Thompson Cemetery, Thompson. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to Hospice of NE CT, PO Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260.

Peter Bates

Peter Bates, 64, of Brockway Road, Woodstock Valley, died Monday, June 15, 2009 at the Day Kimball Hospital after an illness. He was the husband of the late Louise (Renaud) Bates. He was born February 27, 1945 in Putnam, son of the late Claude and Nora Bates.

Pete was an engineer and had worked for over thirty years at Pratt & Whitney, he retired in 1989. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. He made his home in Woodstock all his life, was a life member of the Bungay Fire Brigade and was active for over thirty years. At the time of his death he was President of the Bungay Fire Brigade. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, spending time with family and friends and had a great love for his two dogs.

He leaves his companion of six years, Linda Lewandowski, his children: Nora Garbaloosa of New Britain, Robin Toce of Wethersfield, Edward Lapointe of Webster, MA, Craig Lapointe of Worcester, a brother David Bates of OK, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Calling Hours Wednesday, June 17, 2009 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam. A Memorial Service will be Thursday June 18, 2009 at 10:00 AM at the Eastford Baptist Church, 133 Union Road, Eastford with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Bungay Fire Brigade, 1256 Route 171, Woodstock Valley, CT 06282. The Smith and Walker Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Yvette Pelletier

Danielson - Yvette Pelletier, 97, of Birchwood Terrace, Danielson, died, Monday June 15, 2009, surrounded by her family at home. She was the wife of the late Joseph Pelletier; he died January 13, 200. They were married in ST James Church, September 2, 1935. She was born September 8, 1911 in Danielson, daughter of the Joseph and Josephine (Duval) Marois.

She was a lifelong resident of Danielson, a communicant of ST James Church and a member of the Quinebaug Valley Senior Citizens. Yvette was the caregiver of the family, church was a very big part of her life along with ST Theresa. Her hobbies included playing cards, sitting outside, watching Mass on Television EWTN, hosting holiday gatherings and birthday parties.

She leaves her children: Ronald Pelletier and his wife Ruth of Plainfield; Jean-George Pelletier of Putnam; Georgette Donlon of Dayville, grandchildren: Robert Grandchamp; April Hartling; Nathan Pelletier; Tony Pelletier, Rhonda Pelletier; Brenda Chase, a great grandchild Sebastian Pelletier, a daughter-in-law Arlette Pelletier of Danielson, sisters-in-law Germaine Marois, Delores Marois, Gert Pelletier and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son Wilfred Pelletier, brother Leo Marois, Edmond Marois, Rosario Marois, Gerard Marois and a sister Jeannette Larose.

Funeral Friday, June 19, 2009 at 10:15 AM from the Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds Street, Danielson, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at ST James Church, 12 Franklin Street, Danielson. Calling Hours, Thursday, June 18, 2009 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, Danielson.

William E. Albetski

William E. Albetski, 79, of Danielson, died Monday, June 15, 2009 at the Matulaitis Nursing Home in Putnam. He was the beloved husband of Denise (Pelletier) Albetski. He was born August 25, 1929 in Webster, MA, son of John and Alma (Provost) Albetski.

He attended local schools. He was a communicant of ST James Church in Danielson. He worked in local textile mills before entering into the US Army; he was honorably discharged in 1954. He worked for many years at the Hampton School and for Day Kimball Hospital where he was the head custodian.

He leaves his wife of 54 years, Denise; daughter: Linda Clark of Brooklyn; four brothers Bernard Albetski of Webster; Leo Albetski of FL; George Albetski of Grosvenordale; Donald Albetski of Enfield; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son Robert Albetski in 2006 and brothers: Alfred Albetski; Emil Albetski; Clarence Belanger.

A memorial Mass will be Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 11:00 AM in ST James Church, 12 Franklin Street, Danielson followed by burial in Holy Cross Cemetery Danielson. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Matulaitis Nursing Home, 10 Thurber Road, Putnam, CT 06260. Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds Street, Danielson, is directing arrangements.
