Marie G. Tomasso
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Anthony’s Church for Marie Guisto Tomasso, 89, of 212 East Ave., who died Nov. 15, 2001. She was the widow of Louis Tomasso.
She is survived by daughters Anne Marie Darling of West Haven and Mary Lou Santarpia of North Branford; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Ann Cusanelli and a brother, Augustine Guisto. Burial was in St. Lawrence Cemetery. The Porto Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Matthew Caplan
The Robert E. Shure Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for Matthew “Mac” Caplan, of 120 West Spring St., who died Oct. 28, 2001. He was the husband of Rose Iscovitz Caplan.
Born in New York on Nov. 12, 1916, he was the son of the late Louis and Mollie Caplan. He was the former owner of C&O Movers in Allingtown. He retired from Wayside Furniture in Milford as a refinisher. A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army. He was past commander ofthe amvets post 1, A volunteer for the West Haven Auxiliary Police, and member of Congregation Sinai.
He is survived by a daughter, Molly Rabbito of West Haven; a son, David Caplan of Guilford; and four grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be sent to a charity of one’s choice. An interment service was held at Congregation Sinai Memorial Park in West Haven.
Nicholas C. Savalli, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Anthony’s Church, New Haven, for Nicholas C. Savalli Jr., formerly of West Haven, who died Oct. 31, 2001. He was the husband of Sandra Butricks Savalli. He retired from the FCD Corp., where he worked for many years as an inspector. He served in the Army.
Besides his wife, he leaves daughters Laura Savalli Norton of Durham and Robin Hunt of Hamden; a son, Nicholas Savalli III of East Haven; sisters Linda Knight of Branford and Anna Kintsler of IN; and six grandchildren. Burial was in Kings Highway Cemetery. The West Haven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Thomas E. Lynn
The West Haven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for Thomas E. Lynn, 60, of 309 Terrace Ave., who died Nov. 3, 2001. He was an accountant for Sikorsky Aircraft for 30 years until retiring.
He leaves a son, Steven T. Lynn of West Haven; a sister, Patricia Firulli Torcello of East Haven; brothers Elmer B. Lynn Jr. in FL, and Richard A. Lynn of North Branford; and a granddaughter. He was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Lynn.

Salvatore Genovese
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady of Victory Church for Salvatore A. Genovese, who died Nov. 2, 2001. He was the husband of Elizabeth Limauro Genovese.
He is survived by daughters Diane Bucciero of Branford and Lisa Ordazzo of West Haven; a son Robert Genovese of West Haven; a brother, Thomas Genovese of Plainville; and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Anna Misiorski. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. The West Haven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mary Ryan Catlin
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Lawrence Church for Mary Ryan Catlin, 94, of Second Ave., who died Nov. 4, 2001. She was the widow of Byron J. Catlin. She was a retired bookkeeper for the New Haven Gas Co.
She was predeceased by brothers Edward F. and Thomas F. Ryan and a sister, Sister Austin. Burial was in St. Lawrence Cemetery. The Keenan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Doris M. Lewis
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Lawrence Church for Doris M. Lewis, 79, of Bayshore Drive, who died Nov. 7, 2001. She was an accounting clerk at the Bilco Co. until retiring.
She leaves brothers Charles W. Lewis of Milford and William A. Lewis of West Haven. She was predeceased by sisters Grave Cavanaugh, Reine Pecor and Esther Crumb; and brothers Robert Lewis and George M. Lewis, Jr.

Edward M. Griffin
The West Haven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for Edward Michael Griffin, 64, of 442 Painter Drive, who died Nov. 7, 2001. He was retired from A.P. Green in Orange.
He is survived by his mother, Wanda King of West Haven; daughter, Laura Griffin Osterman of Warwick, RI, and Nancy Griffin O’Brien of Madison; brothers Carl Griffin of Wallingford and Paul LaPorte of West Haven ; and sisters Helen Griffin of Clinton, Wanda Griffin and Wanda Schless of West Haven.

Fanny T. Marchitto
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Paul’s Church for Fanny Tamaro Marchitto, 93, of 16 Orford Road, who died Nov. 6, 2001. She was the widow of Louis Marchitto.
She leaves a daughter, Marie Antonucci of Nilford; sons Lou Marchitto of East Haven, Mike and Gene Marchitto of West Haven; brothers Joseph Tamaro of Orange and Sal Tamaro of Milford; sisters Mary Harlow of West Haven, Eleanor Celone of Orange and Millie Hornal in Illinois; 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by a sister, Carolyn Hugli; and a brother, Peter Tamaro.

Veronica Ann Glaser

Veronica Ann Glaser, 89, of Deer Hill Drive, Danbury, died in Danbury Hospital on Saturday, November 29th, 2003.
She was the wife of the late Irving G. Glaser.
She was born in New York, New York on August 4, 1914, daughter of the late Frank and Catherine (Sullivan) Leahy.
She was a graduate of Newtown High School in Corona New York, and attended Hunter College, majoring in Business.
Veronica enjoyed spending time with her family and was proud of her Irish Heritage. She also enjoyed the New York Yankees Baseball Team.
She is survived by her two sons: Robert J. and his wife Dale Glaser, of New Milford; and Richard F. and his wife Alana Glaser, of New Milford; three daughters: Marilyn A. and her husband Frank Avallone, of Guilford; Diane F. and her husband Nicholas Cappiello, of Danbury; Catherine E. and her husband Gary Jordan, of Danbury; five sisters: Mary O’shea, of Dumont, N.J.; Irene Cozier, of North Massapequa, N.Y.; Catherine Canonica, of Dumont, N.J.; Theresa Bouley, of Stoney Point, N.Y.; Patricia Meyer, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; and fifteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three sisters: Helen Nelson, Rita Buckley, and Margaret McGinley and predeceased by two brothers: Harold Leahy and John Leahy.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Joseph Church, Main Street, Danbury, on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.

Emily C. Battista

Emily C. Battista, 87, of Franklin Street, Danbury, wife of the late Dominic Battista, died on Sunday, November 30th at home.
She was born in Danbury on March 4, 1916, daughter of the late Thomas and Julia (Ponick) Hanna.
Mrs. Battista worked as an inspector at Barden Corporation for fifteen years. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church in Danbury. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking and traveling.
She will be sadly missed by her daughters: Dorothy and her husband, Carl Noack, Judith and her husband Walter Matson, all of Danbury; four grandchildren: Michael, Thomas and Jeffrey Matson, and Christopher Noack, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Church, Danbury.
Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.

Antonio B. Mendes

Antonio B. Mendes, age 83, formerly of Danbury, died Monday, December 1st, 2003, in Gouveia, Portugal.
Antonio was born in Gouveia, Portugal on April 5th, 1920.
He was a self-employed contractor for many years, in the local area, before retiring.
Three daughters survive him: Linda Seaman, Diane Mendes and Elaine DeOliveira, four granddaughters, and one great grandson.
A sister, Zelda and several nieces and nephews also survive him.
Cremation will take place in Portugal.
Private services will be held by the family.
E. Raymond Bender

E. Raymond Bender, age 84, of Queensbury, N.Y., died Monday, December 1, 2003, at Danbury Hospital.
He was the husband of Mary Ann (Flaherty) Bender.
He was born in New York, N.Y., February 6, 1919, son of the late Jacob and Amelia (Klein) Bender.
In 1941 he graduated from of Saint John’s University with a Bachelor of Science Degree.
He was a veteran who served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was employed by Joseph E. Seagram & Sons of New York City, as director of Purchasing, retiring after numerous years of service.
After retiring he wintered and summered in St. Petersburg, Fla. and Lake George, N.Y.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a daughter, Patricia Parkel, of New Fairfield; a son, Michael Bender, of Stamford; beloved grandchildren: Christopher and Courtney Bender, of Wilton; Raymond Parkel, and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Edward Church, New Fairfield, on Thursday at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville, N.Y.
Friends will be received at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Wednesday, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Thomas D. Murphy

Thomas D. Murphy, 87, of Danbury, husband of the late Gladys (Mulkin) Murphy, died on Monday morning, December 1, 2003 at Danbury Hospital.
Mr. Murphy was born in Toledo, Ohio, September 29, 1916, a son of Daniel T. and Anna (Murphy) Murphy.
He attended Ohio schools and at the age of 13 moved with his family to the Bronx, N.Y.
A retired truck driver and warehouseman, Mr. Murphy was a member of Teamster’s Union Local 282 of Lake Success, N.Y.
A resident of Danbury for the past fifteen years coming from the Bronx, he attended St. Marguerite’s Church, Brookfield.
He was an avid reader, enjoyed sports in his youth, dining out and most especially, his family.
Surviving are four sons: Thomas Murphy and his wife Deborah, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Michael Murphy and his wife Louise, of Brookfield; Daniel Murphy, of Queens, N.Y.; and John Murphy and his wife Lucille, of Danbury; a daughter, Mary P. Seta and her husband Richard, of West Haverstraw, N.Y.; a brother, John Murphy, of New Rochelle, N.Y.; two sisters: Patricia Ricciardi and Rita Rodogna, both of Mamaroneck, N.Y.; thirteen grandchildren and twenty six great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, a brother, Daniel Murphy and two sisters: Catherine Murphy and Marie Shanahan predeceased him.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, at 10 a.m., in St. Marguerite’s Church, Brookfield.
Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y.
Friends will be received in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Avenue, Danbury on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mary Ester (Wood) Waterbury

Mary Ester (Wood) Waterbury, 99, of West Wooster Street, wife of the late Harry L. Waterbury, died on Monday, December 1st, 2003, at the Danbury Health Care Center.
Mary was born in East Hartford, Conn., on July 23, 1904, daughter of the late William and Jane Marcelene (Cummings) Wood.
She had lived in East Norwalk for years before moving to Danbury.
At a younger age, Mary had been a very active member of the Women of the Loyal Order of the Moose, in Norwalk and Danbury, holding both local and state offices.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Ruth Hlavac and her husband William, of Danbury; four grandchildren: Maureen, Brian, William and Darren Hlavac; and three great grandchildren: Kelly, Kyle and Sean Hlavac. In addition to her husband Harry, Mary was predeceased by her brother, William E. Wood, Jr.; her sisters: Frances Wood, Helen Riley, Ruth Rawson, Loretta Nuthmann as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Friday, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Peter’s Church.
Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery.
