Mary (Lightcap) Hoffmeister
Mary (Lightcap) Hoffmeister, 92, of East Haddam and formerly of Colchester, widow of the late Gilbert Hoffmeister, with whom she shared 67 years of marriage, passed away Sunday (April 21, 2013), surrounded by her loving family..William Leo Gregoire, 82, of Colchester and Kingston, TN, widower of the late Leona (Sabins) Sullivan Gregoire, passed away Monday (April 15, 2013) surrounded by his loving family.
Born July 7, 1920 in Germantown, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Marian (Link) Lightcap.
Before moving to Connecticut in 2000, Mary and Gilbert had lived in Dunnellon, FL for 20 years and King of Prussia, PA for the 25 years prior to that.
Mary was a devoted wife and mother, as well as an active volunteer and Girl Scout leader for many years.
Mrs. Hoffmeister was musically inclined, as a vocalist, piano and organ player, talents that she shared over the years at various churches.
In addition to his loving wife of 67 years, she is survived by three children and their spouses, Susan and Gary Rodimon of East Haddam and Lloyd and Laura Hoffmeister and Barry and Kathy Hoffmeister, all of California; seven grandchildren; five step grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and numerous extended family members and friends.
Care of private arrangements, with burial in the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown, has been entrusted to the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home of Colchester.
Dianne (Whitcomb) Michaud
Dianne (Whitcomb) Michaud, 55, of Lebanon, beloved wife of Raymond, Sr., passed away unexpectedly Sunday (April 21, 2013).
Born July 26, 1957 in Willimantic, she was a daughter of Edwin Whitcomb of Lebanon and the late Janice (Kennedy) Whitcomb.
Dianne had worked as a Cardiac Monitor Technician for 35 years, both at Windham Hospital and the former Abbey Manor before her retirement in 2009.
She was ever devoted to her family, especially enjoying to help raise her grandchildren.
In addition to her father, and her loving husband of 34 years, she leaves her son and daughter-in-law, Raymond., Jr. and Heather and their children, Rai and Alera, all of Columbia; two sisters, Donna Diekmann and Denise Cole, both of Lebanon; and numerous extended family members and friends.
The family will receive guests 5 to 8 PM Friday (April 26th) at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester. Funeral Services will be held 10 AM Saturday directly at the First Congregational Church of Lebanon, located at the Jct. of Rtes. 207 and 87. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, No. Windham.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
William Leo Gregoire
William Leo Gregoire, 82, of Colchester and Kingston, TN, widower of the late Leona (Sabins) Sullivan Gregoire, passed away Monday (April 15, 2013) surrounded by his loving family.
Born April 23, 1930 in Bridgeport, he was a son of the late Paul and Germaine (Bernard) Gregoire.
Mr. Gregoire was the Head of Maintenance for Projects, Inc. in Glastonbury for many years before his retirement.
Before moving to Tennessee, he had been an active member of the Marlborough Moose Lodge 1631.
He is survived by four children, David and wife, Laurie of Colchester, Brien and wife, Yvette of Lebanon, Mark of Wilmington, NC, and Ellen Young and husband, John of Westchester; four stepchildren, Leona, Helen, Samantha and Billy Sullivan; three siblings, Helen O’Leary of Trumbull, Irene Seamons of Southington and Robert Gregoire of Windsor Locks; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family members and friends.
In addition to his wife, who died March 18, 2012, he was predeceased by three siblings, Doris Mossotto, Lucille Suprenant and Richard Gregoire.
Care of private arrangements has been entrusted to the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home of Colchester.
William Thomas Williams, “Billy”
William Thomas Williams, “Billy”, 70, of Orange and formerly of Hartford and Colchester, widower of the late Lorraine (Cooper) Williams, passedaway Wednesday (April 10, 2013) at the Marlborough Health Care Center.
Born Oct. 4, 1942 in Hartford, he was a son of the late Richard and Ruth (Cooper) Williams.
Mr. Williams worked in construction for many years before his retirement, owning and operating Williams & Sons, “paving” the way for his family and friends.
A sharp-dressed man who loved dancing and gaming, he will be remembered most fondly for his calmness and fairness, often acting as peacemaker. May he now rest in peace.
He is survived by four children and their spouses, June and Justin Potter of Westbrook, William and Charlotte Williams of Buffalo, NY, Andrew and Marie Williams of Quaker Hill and Richardand Lisa Williams of Columbia; 19 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and oneexpected; one great-great grandchild expected; and numerous extended familymembers and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife of 53 years, he was predeceased by two sons, Leonard and Mark.
Friends may call Saturday starting at 1 PM the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester. A Chapel Service will beobserved at 3 PM. Burial will be privatein the Hillside Cemetery, East Hartford.

Violet Scialla
Violet Scialla, 85, of Haddam, CT, passed away Wednesday (April 10, 2013) at the Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, CT.
Born Dec. 10, 1927 in Bridgeport, CT she was a daughter of the late Francis Xavier and Olympia (Russo) Scialla.
She earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Bridgeport and was a member of the Alumni Association.
Ms. Scialla worked as an Administrative Assistant for the IRS for many years before her retirement.
Violet was known for her warm and caring interest in others, always willing to volunteer even at a young age as a “Gray Lady” at St. Vincent’s Hospital in the 1950’s. She also dedicated herself to the care of her parents in their later years.
In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling extensively all over the globe.
Ms. Scialla was a parishoner of St. Andrew Church in Bridgeport.
She leaves two siblings, Jill Scialla of Haddam, with whom she made her home, and Dr. Michael Scialla and his wife, Frances, of Albuquerque, NM; two nieces and their husbands, Jane and Daniel Texira (and their daughter, Meghan) of Lebanon, CT and Janelle Scialla and her husband, Ibo of England; and a nephew, John Buydos of Maryland.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Marie (Scialla) Buydos.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 10:15 AM Saturday (April 13th) at the Redgate-Hennessey Funeral Home, 4 Gorham Place, Trumbull.
Funeral Services will be observed 10:30 AM Saturday at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery Mausoleum, 1056 Daniels Farm Road, Trumbull, CT. Care of arrangements has been entrusted to the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home of Colchester.
Dr. Melvin Clay Hobson, Jr. Ph.D.
Dr. Melvin Clay Hobson, Jr. Ph.D., 86, of Hyannis, MA and formerly of South Windsor and East Hampton, widower of the late Patricia Ann (Gallagher) Hobson, with whom he shared 50 wonderful years of marriage, passed away Sunday morning (April 7, 2013) at the Mayflower Rehabilitation Center inYarmouth, MA. born August 7, 1926 in Ft. Myers, FL, he was the son of the late Melvin and Gladys (Worthington) Hobson. Dr. Hobson served proudly during World War II in China with the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a Dr. of Physical Chemistry receiving his Master's of Chemistry at the University of Lausanne in Switzerland and his Doctorate in Physical Chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania. He was a Research Chemist as well as a Professor of Chemistry for manyyears. He was also an expert in the field of Mossbauer Spectroscopy publishing many articles and speaking about the subject at numerous conferences across thecountry and the world. His hobbies included genealogy, gardening, photography and gourmet cooking as well asspending time with his daughters and grandchildren. Survivors include three loving daughters, Lisa and Dean Senesac of Pittsboro, IN, Kathleen and Robert Clay of Amston and Kimberly Hobson of Hoboken, NJ; four wonderful grandchildren, Shannon Garrigus, Jordan Duff, and Jacqueline and Kevin Clay; and numerous extended family members and friends. Funeral Services will be held 10 AM Friday (April 12th) at the Wapping Community Church, 1790 Ellington Road, South Windsor. The family will receive guests starting at 9:30 AM at the church. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Wapping Cemetery, South Windsor. Care of arrangements has been entrusted to the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home of Colchester.
David W. Wilcox
David W. Wilcox, 62, of Lebanon, CT, beloved husband of Mary (Michaud) Wilcox, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, March 31, 2013. born August 19, 1950, he was the son of the late Edmund and Lois Wilcox.
He was the proud owner and operator of Personal Oil Co. in New Britain, CT. In addition to his loving wife of 14 years, he leaves three children, Jenny (Wilcox) & Anthony Dalay of South Carolina, Jarren Wilcox of New Britain, CT, and Matthew & Jessica Bouchard of Middletown, CT. He leaves 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 2 siblings, Mary Pederson and Paul Wilcox, both of Massachusetts.
The family will receive guests from 1 pm to 4 pm on Sunday, April 7th at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester, CT. A chapel service will be observed at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be private.
In his passing, David's generous spirit lives on through the gift of organ and tissue donation.
John Stula
John Stula, 93 of Cape Coral, FL and formerly of Columbia and Colchester, passed away early Saturday morning, June 1, 2013.
Born January 12, 1920 in Colchester, he was a son of the late Ferdinand and Irene (Melnyk) Stula.
John married Mary Elizabeth Harrington on April 24, 1948. The couple shared 63 years of marriage before she predeceased him on June 1, 2011.
John built three nursing homes in eastern Connecticut. He operated the facilities with his wife, Mary until their retirement several years ago, when they moved to Cape Coral, Florida.
John enjoyed building and working on the farm with his son and grandsons. He lived for his family and will be remembered by them for all he did for them.
Survivors include a son, Karl Stula of Colchester, a daughter, Karleen Cicchiello of Columbia; a brother, Kenneth Stula of Athens, GA; three sisters, Frances Zawacki of Alaska, Alice Hardy of Phoenix, AZ, Sr. Helen Stula of Ronkonkoma, NY; four grandchildren, John & Shawn Stula, both of Colchester; Kara, her daughter, Isabella and Eve Cicchiello, all of Columbia; and numerous extended family and friends. In additon to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by five brothers, Fred, Mike, Bruno, Edward, George and a granddaughter, Maria Cicchiello.
Friends and family are invited to attend calling hours on Monday, June 3rd, from 5 – 7 PM at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated at 11 AM Tuesday, directly at St. Columba Church, Rte 66, Columbia. Burial will follow in New St. Andrew Cemetery in Colchester.
Paul David Kisner
Paul David Kisner, 55 of Reidy Hill Road, Amston, beloved husband of Marlene Ross Kisner, departed this world suddenly and unexpectedly on May 24, 2013. Paul was born on January 7, 1958, a son of Edward Arthur and Jessie (Sarnmark) Kisner. Paul grew up in Hebron where he developed his lifelong love for the sport of football. As a youngster, he began his football career at the youth level and continued to excel in the sport through his high school years at Xavier High School. Always determined to push himself and be the best, Paul succeeded in both his academics and football.
On August 7, 1982, Paul married the love of his life, Marlene Ross Kisner. They moved away from Hebron, but soon returned to raise their two young boys.
Paul worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Hartford, West Hartford and Windsor Locks during his 29 year career. He donated his time to Hebron football for over 12 years, coaching at the youth level for 10 years and then at the High School level after many years of rallying support for a High School Program. He was truly a football phenomenon with a genuine love of the game. He held and incredible level of knowledge of the sport and was a great mentor. His ability to study the game, study his players and teach them resulted in the love and respect of everyone’s lives he toughed. Paul’s gift in this life was the foundation of his character. Honor, integrity and compassion for others made him a truly remarkable man. Always putting other’s needs, before his own. His ability to help others in times of need was inspiring. Paul’s wisdom and knowledge helped guide the paths of many throughout the years.
Paul was an avid fisherman and enjoyed seeking out his favorite spots to cast a few lines. Paul cherished the simple things in life. His true main passion was his family, which gave him a great feeling of pride and love. His belief in true love and helping others led to relationships which then became part of his extended family. Paul was a giver always, never a taker. His love for his family included his love for his dog Kimbo, whom he treated just as if he were another child.
In addition to his father, Paul was predeceased by an infant son, Daniel Kisner.
He will be sadly missed, but always remembered by Marlene, his wife of 31 years; his mother, Jessie Kisner of Hebron; two sons and daughter in laws, Brian and Nikki Kisner and Tyler Kisner & Megan Fornabi of Amston; his treasured and loyal companion, Kimbo; his brother, Stephen Kisner of Leominster, MA; brothers and sister in laws, Mark and Lynn Kisner of Coventry, David and Donna Kisner of East Hartford and many special nieces and nephews. In addition, Paul was recently blessed with two beautiful grandchildren, Gabriella and Jacob Kisner, whom he welcomed in the world the day before he departed.
Friends and family may attend calling hours on Thursday, May 30th from 4 – 6:00 PM at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester. A memorial services will follow immediately at 6:00 PM at the Funeral Home. Burial will be private. Donations in his memory may be made to the RHAM Youth Football and Cheerleading, P.O. Arthur Lawrence Turkington, Sr.
Arthur Lawrence Turkington, Sr., 82, of Marlborough and formerly Vernon, Hebron and Manchester, passed away after an extended illness early Monday morning, May 20, 2013, at Middlesex Hospital Hospice.
Born in Manchester on June 7, 1930, he was the son of the late Lester and Lillian (Thompson) Turkington.
Arthur was a proud veteran of the US Army, having served in Germany during the Korean War.
He retired several years ago after having worked as a machinist for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft. Prior to that, he worked in the insurance industry, owning and operating his own agency in Vernon and later working for the Scottish Union Insurance Co.
Arthur was active and greatly involved with the Power Squadron in Manchester where he was also former Commander. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #102, Manchester and the Legion Riders.
He was an avid bowler, he loved motorcycle riding, fishing and he was a fan of the Red Sox and UConn Women’s Basketball team. He will be remembered for his positive attitude, quick wit, fun sense of humor and most importantly, for the love he generously gave to his family.
He was predeceased by his wife of 15 years, Merle I. Turkington in 2001.
He will be sadly missed but always remembered by those he leaves behind. Survivors include his partner and friend, Ruth Posuniak, with whom he made his home, two sons, Arthur and his wife Vicki Turkington of Andover; Thomas Turkington of Ocala, FL; three step-children, David and his wife Laura Combs of Columbia, Jennifer Tow of Glastonbury, Jo-Ann and her husband Mark Connelly of Hebron; eleven grandchildren, Sherry, David, Brandi, Krystle, Lee, Keith, Alexander, Morgana, Leo, Jeremy, Sienna; six great-grandchildren and numerous extended family and friends.
Memorial calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 23rd beginning at 10am at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester. A memorial service will follow immediately at 11 am at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Hebron Cemetery.
Ann Zukowsky
Ann Zukowsky, 93, of Lebanon, passed away on May 16, 2013 at Hartford Hospital after an extended illness.
She was born in Manhattan, NY, on February 14, 1920. One of five children, Ann was the last surviving of the late Paul and Mary (Frantz) Poter.
She married William Zukowsky on July 29, 1950 in Willimantic. The couple shared 55 years of marriage before he predeceased her on November 21, 2005.
Ann retired several years ago after having worked several places part-time, assembly work at Electromotive for a time, but the employment she enjoyed most was seamstress for dress makers in Colchester.
Ann loved gardening, especially daffodils in her garden beds. She was a talented seamstress, an exceptional cook and she enjoyed toll painting on vintage furniture. She will be remembered by her family as having lived an active and full life, bike riding, horseback riding and motorcycle riding with her husband. She was a vibrant and fun loving lady who will be sadly missed but always remembered by those who knew her.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Linda and Dan Petrofsky of Lebanon; a grandson, John William Petrofsky of Lebanon; a niece, Barbara Wheaton of Lebanon and several extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held privately. Burial will be in the New Lebanon Cemetery. The Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home of Colchester has been entrusted with arrangements.
