Russell C. Tischofer
Russell C. Tischofer, 83, of Lakewood, FL and Salem (and formerly of Colchester), beloved husband of Mary, passed away Saturday (March 9, 2013) at the Orchard Grove HCC in Uncasville.
Born May 5, 1929 in White Plains, NY, he was a son of the late Howard Lenentine and Emma (Billings) Tischofer.
Mr. Tischofer was a professional driver for Park Trucking in East Hartford for 43 years before his retirement.
He was a active member of Lions International and was a member and cook for the Germania Lodge in FL, for many years. In his spare time, he was an avid golfer.
In addition to his wife, he leaves five children, Russell of Amston, Bruce of Montville, Linda Pedersen of Brookville Florida, Karen Zeppa of Manchester CT and Barbara Morales of Fort Myers FL; stepdaughters, Kirsti Stennent of Colchester, KrisLonardelli of Lebanon and predeceased by Karen Ruffo; 15 grandchildren Russell Tischofer Junior of Hebron CT, Michael Tischofer of Brooklyn CT, Thomas Tischofer of Bristol CT, Brenda M. Tischofer of New Britain CT, Rhonda Tischofer of Hartford CT, Jeremiah Tischofer Manchester CT, Keven Tischofer of Colchester, CT, Kimberly Tischofer New Britain, Betsy Mead of Brooksville Florida, Matthew Pedersen of Crystal River, Florida, Susan Zeppa of Hebron, CT, Andrew Zeppa of Vernon CT, Ashley Zeppa of Griswold CT, David Sander Ellington CT, Patty Sander, Fort Myers FL.; seven great grandchildren; and numerous extended family members and friends.

Agnes Marie Jonas
It is with great sadness that the family of Agnes Marie Jonas, age 92, announces her passing on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. Agnes was a long time resident of Enfield, CT and more recently of Marlborough, CT. born September 9, 1920 in Providence, RI, she was the daughter of the late Armedeo Ricci and Irene Mulholland Fiore. In 1937, Agnes was a graduate of St. Patrick’s Academy, in Providence, and continued her education at a local secretarial school. She then worked for both the federal government and the State of R.I. Agnes was proud to serve as a sergeant in the US Army Air Corp, as a WAC in 1945, and earned a WW II Victory Medal. There she met Kenneth Jonas, her husband, with whom she shared almost 30 years of marriage. Ken passed away in St. Petersburg, FL in 1995. Agnes will always be remembered for her positive attitude, strong religious convictions and faith in God. She truly was an inspiration and joy to everyone she met. Agnes suffered from Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS) after being injured from chemical spraying in her home. Her immense knowledge concerning Environmental Illnesses enabled her to educate and advise countless people suffering with Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia, Chemical poisoning, Candida, and Multiple Chemical Sensitivities, over the 30 years of her involvement with the illnesses. Agnes also loved politics and incorporated her two passions to help pass several bills concerning chemicals effecting people and our environment. She served on the board of ECHO, an MCS awareness organization, for several years, and also founded SEEK, a self-help support group for people with MCS. Agnes loved to network with doctors, politicians, and patients across the country, many of whom became dear friends. Until her final days, Agnes continued to educate and help everyone she met. She enjoyed life, loved her family and friends, and always kept a sense of humor through all the adversity that came her way. Agnes was always ready with a joke to share and loved a good game of cards. She leaves her daughter, Marilyn Jonas Pavone of Clearwater, FL and her son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Sandra Jonas of Amston, CT; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Agnes also leaves her four sisters: Rosemarie McCurdy of Swansea, MA, Jeanne Toole of Seekonk, MA, Maureen Loiselle of N. Providence, RI, Dorothy Mecure of Providence, RI and numerous extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents, and her former husband, Agnes was predeceased by her son, Michael Jonas of Clearwater, FL; her sister, Claire Macomb of Cranston, RI; her brother, Paul Fiore of Pawtucket, RI and her dear friend, Harold Cote of Enfield, CT. Agnes had a big heart and loved all of her family and friends very much. Agnes, Aggie, Mom, Mumsey, Mrs. Jonas, Ricky, Grama and “Aggie the Great” will continue to be loved greatly and remembered forever as an amazing, giving soul. The family would like to thank the caregivers from Homemakers and Companions in Glastonbury, CT. and also the VNA Hospice nurses and caregivers from Mansfield, CT. Their excellent homecare, personal concern, and love will always be appreciated with gratitude. Her High Mass Funeral will be celebrated Saturday, March 16, 2013, at 11:00am at The Church of the Holy Family, 185 Church St., Hebron, CT. (Burial will take place this summer at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Hebron, CT. Friends and family will be notified of the details at a later date.) Elijah Gibson, Jr.
Elijah Gibson, Jr., 83, of East Hartford and formerly of Colchester and New Haven, widower of the late Geraldine (Hill) Gibson, passed away Sunday (March 3, 2013).
Born January 23, 1930 in New Haven, he was one of the 17 children of the late Elijah and Mabel (Byrd) Gibson.
Mr. Gibson worked as an agent for the New York Life Insurance Company for 40 years before his retirement.
He was a member and past President of the Colchester Rotary Club, had served with the State Police Auxiliary and as Colchester Tax Assessor.
In his spare time, he loved to travel with his wife and was an avid fan of the NY Mets and Giants, as well as the UCONN Huskies.
He will be fondly remembered for his smile and his willingness to lend a hand or an ear at any time.
He is survived by three sons, Michael of East Hartford, Anthony of West Haven and Craig of Rocky Hill; his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Vaughan Mitchell of East Hartford; two grandchildren, Jahmal and Brandon Mitchell; seven sisters, Ethel Pope of New Haven, Violet Newton of West Haven, Minnie Richard of Hamden, Corine Browne of New Haven, Christine Turner of Las Vegas, NV, Debbie Carney of West Haven and Gwendolyn Walker of Georgia; two brothers, Raymond of Middletown and Joseph of West Haven; and numerous extended family members and friends.
In addition to his loving wife of 56 years, who died Nov. 7, 2010, he was predeceased by two sons, Alan and Balery; four sisters, Joyce Butler, Beverly Dease, Odessa Mayfield and Mamie Gibson; and three brothers, Fred, Harold and Isiah.
The family will receive guests starting at 8 AM Saturday (March 9th) at the Crossroads Community Cathedral, 1492 Silver Lane, East Hartford followed by the Funeral Service at 9 AM. Committal will follow in the Linwood Cemetery, Colchester.

Mary Dominick
Mary Dominick, 98, of Colchester, widow of the late Frederick W. Dominick, passed away Friday (April 26, 2013).
Born December 11, 1914 in New York, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Theresa (Paskevitz) Swidor.
Mrs. Dominick had worked as an Administrative Assistant for the Hartford Public School system for many years before her retirement.
She was a longtime communicant of St. Andrew Parish in Colchester.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Keith and Susan Augeri of Rocky Hill, Carrie and Steven Aitken of Durham and Corrin and Eric Hultgren of Middlefield; great grandchildren, Matthew, Olivia, Cody, Carson, Tyra and Tatum; and numerous extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Barbara Herczeg Augeri, who passed in January of this year, her brother, Gus Swidor and her sister, Anne Jaczko.
Friends may call Saturday (May 4th) beginning at 9:30 AM at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester., followed by a Chapel Service at 10 AM. Burial will be private.
Claudette (Chamberlain) Lynch
Claudette (Chamberlain) Lynch, of Colchester, widow of the late James F. Lynch, with whom she shared 30 years of marriage, passed away Thursday (Apr. 25, 2013) at home. She was a daughter of the late David and Germaine (St. Laurent) Chamberlain. Early on, Mrs. Lynch worked in administration for various real estate agencies before owning and operating the Burnham Employment Agency in Hartford for 20 years before her retirement. She was a communicant of St. Andrew Parish in Colchester and was an active volunteer at local nursing homes and soup kitchens. She leaves her sister, Gail Nevins of West Hartford, CT and Florida, and two nephews, Kevin Nevins of Stafford Springs, CT and Mark Nevins of Harlem, NY. She also leaves Mary Ellen Vincenzo, roommate and friend. In keeping with her wishes, funeral services will be private and that as a tribute to her memory, please do a kind deed for another. Anna Victoria Wierbicki
Anna Victoria Wierbicki, 86, of Colchester, widow of the late Stanley Wierbicki, passed away Tuesday (April 23, 2013) at the Middlesex Hospital.
Born Sept. 3, 1926 in Rumford, ME, she was the daughter of the late Casimir and Anna (Satkowski) Bardelis.
Mrs. Wierbicki worked her way up through the ranks at the Salem Clock Co. in Hartford, retiring as executive assistant to the President.
She and Stanley shared 65 years of marriage before he predeceased her on March 13, 2012.
She leaves two nieces and their spouses, Nancy and Jim Warren of Colchester and Bernice and Bert Rice of East Hartford; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
Care of private arrangements has been entrusted to the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home of Colchester.
Thomas Edward Oppelt
Thomas Edward Oppelt, “Tommy”, of Colchester, beloved husband of Conchita Oppelt, passed away on Friday (April 26, 2013) at the age of 80 after a long and courageous battle with Cancer. born on the 3rd of June in Hartford, he was the eldest son of the three children of the late Frederick and Dorothy (Callahan) Oppelt, and grew up in West Hartford on Edgemere Avenue. He spent much of his young life with the Boy Scouts, rising to the rank of Eagle Scout. He always said it was one of the happiest times in his life. Tommy graduated from William H. Hall High School and began a long career in grocery retail – working for ShopRite and later, Stop and Shop until his retirement.
Patriotism was an important part of Tommy’s life. He enlisted in the Army in 1952, training as a Sniper and served during the Korean War with the 1745 CO E 27th Infantry Regiment and was wounded in combat. Before returning in 1954, Tommy was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the Combat Infantry Badge and the United Nations Service and National Defense Service Medals.
Tommy’s loves were golfing, bowling, playing cards and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Up until recently, Tommy enjoyed spending Monday nights with longtime friends bowling in a duck pin league. What started as a once-a-month friendly card game of setback turned into a marathon evening of food, drink, set-back and poker (friendly, yes; competitive, definitely). It was during these occasions that the family introduced him to wine (as an addition to his favorite beer, “Bud”). He remained the set-back champion right up to the last game played in the hospital several days before his death.
Nothing interfered with Tommy’s yearly trips to Maine and Niantic. He loved the tranquility of the water and experienced peace and calm while being there.
In addition to his wife, Tommy is survived by his sister, Joan Oppelt Brodeur; four children, Doreen Oppelt, David Oppelt, Sandra Carrier and her husband, William, and Thomas Oppelt, Jr.; his grandchildren, Rebecca Oppelt Hooper, David Oppelt, Jr., and Jason, Todd and William M. Carrier; great grandchildren, Amber, Laurel and Isabella. He was recently predeceased by his sister, Mary Lou Oppelt Charest Groskritz.
Tommy was an old world gentleman who enjoyed and protected the ladies. His compassion, wonderful sense of humor and overall love for humanity will not be forgotten. The family would like to thank the “Angels” of AMC at Backus Hospital. A heartfelt thank you goes out to Dr. Mandeep Dhami, who, against all odds, gave Tommy an additional three years of quality life, and to his staff for all of their wonderful care during his sickness.
The family will receive guests from 5 to 8 PM Tuesday (April 30th) at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester. A Chapel Service with full military honors will be observed at 7:30 PM. Burial will be private. Jessie Marie Smith
Jessie Marie Smith, 31 of Colchester, passed away unexpectedly on April 22, 2013. She was born on January 21, 1982 in Groton, CT, a daughter of Loriann Smith and the late Michael Smith.
A loving mother, she leaves behind her beloved children, Maliya P. Dean and Leo G. Williams, IV. She will always be remembered by family as a courageous woman that was striving for a better path for herself and her children to whom she was devoted. Her love and zest for life will be sadly missed. In addition to her mother, Loriann, and Larry Mahoney, with whom she made her home, she leaves her sister, Melanie L. Smith and her son, James of New London; two special sisters, Kellie & Donald Berube and their children, Alex and Andrew of Bow, NH, Teri DeDee and her children, Tailey Tucker, Daisy DeDee and Chevy Spencer of Antiigo, WI; grandparents, James & Carol Kernozek of Montville; aunts and uncles, James and Leslie Kernozek and family of Waterford and Barbara and Omar Morales and family of Norwich, CT, Daphne and Peter Volkmer and family of Waterford; Joanne andJoe Dolan and family of Boston, MA; Gerald Smith and family of Quincy, MA and Paul & Lisa Smith and family of Crestview, FL; and numerous extended family members and friends.
Jessie's belief that anything could happen if she kept her living her life fully; and that she did. Her love of music had her teaching her children classic rock and roll from the cradle. Her favorite belief of when music hit you, you feel no pain and she kept all types of music in her family's world. Jessie loved to laugh and was the life of a party, quick with a joke, smart remark or a kick in the ass. Living life her own way, she was a friend to have for life whose loyalty ran so deep.

Dorothy E. (Donlin) Stomberg
Dorothy E. (Donlin) Stomberg, 92, of Hebron, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at the Marlborough Health Care Center.
Born April 16, 1921 in Hartford , she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Pearl (Leavitt) Donlin.
She worked in the credit office for Sage Allen Stores for twelve years and later worked for Sears in retail and fashion until her retirement in 1994.
Dorothy was a Girl Scout Leader and service unit chairman in the 1960’s. She was very active with the Russell Mercier Senior Center and the Hebron Commission on Aging. She was a communicant at Church of the Holy Family in Hebron. Most importantly, she will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. In addition to her Parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Alden S. Stomberg, on June 21, 1989, three children, William, Dennis and Brian; four brothers, William, Raymond, Lawrence, Robert, and two sisters, Nancy Sullivan and Barbara Frazier.
Survivors include three children, Carol Ann and her husband Matthew Dabrowski of Ashaway, RI, Gary Stomberg and his wife April of Deland, FL , Jacquelyn and her husband Robert Tyrseck of Pittsburgh, PA; a sister, Jacqueline Donlin of Newington; 22 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren.
Friends may attend calling hours on Monday, April 29th from 5 – 7 PM at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, at 10:30 am, Please go directly to Church of the Holy Family, Church St. Hebron. Burial will follow in the New Hebron Cemetery. Wayne Francis Nash, Sr.
Wayne Francis Nash, Sr., 61, beloved husband of Nora (Faurot) Nash, of Lebanon and formerly of New Haven, passed away Friday (April 26th) after a long and courageous battle with cancer .
Born September 22, 1951 in Massachusetts he was a son of the late Audrey Nash Sanborn.
Wayne retired in 2010 after having worked for 40 years as a Computer Technician for AT&T.
He had an avid love of motorcycling and cars. Wayne was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends. He took great pride in his home, which he built. Most importantly, he will be remembered for his great sense of humor, he loved to make people smile and his easy way with family and friends.
In addition to his wife Nora, survivors include three children, Wayne Nash, Jr. of E. Haven, Bryan Donato-Nash of Lebanon and Tammy Nash DeLeo of E. Haven; two stepsons, Kevin Goins of Windsor and Sean Goins of Lebanon; a brother, Tom Leffingwell of Wallingford; a sister, Laurie Locke of W. Haven; five grandchildren, Amber, Alyssa, Wayne III, Scott and Angelina; and numerous extended family and friends.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday (May 3rd) beginning at 3 PM at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Rd., Colchester. A Memorial Service will follow immediately at 4:30 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
Marion Theresa Labonosky
Marion Theresa Labonosky, 71, of Colchester, beloved wife of Benjamin, III, passed away Wednesday (April 24, 2013) at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born Oct. 13, 1941 in the Bronx, NY, she was a daughter of the late Harold Clark and Lillian (Schnell) Clark Finnegan.
Along with her husband and family, Marion was the proud owner and operator of Benjamin's Restaurant. Her graciousness, kindness and caring nature will be remembered fondly by the countless patrons that she served through the years. Those qualities, along with her deep love and dedication to her family, with be deeply missed by her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored.
In addition to her loving husband of 46 years, she leaves two sons, Ben, IV and Stephen, and a daughter, Susanne Zahacefski, all of Colchester; seven grandchildren, Jamie, Jessica, Taylor, Kyle, Noah, Shane and Cory; three siblings, Lorraine Hayes, Lillian Wilson and Robert Clark, all of Florida; and numerous extended family members and friends.
He was predeceased by two siblings, Dorothy Hayes and Harold Clark.
A Celebration of her Life will be held and announced at a later date.

Robert Allen Korten
Robert Allen Korten, 71, of Lebanon, beloved husband of Julie (Belanger) Korten, passed away Tuesday (April 23, 2013).
Born March 7, 1942 in Meriden, he was a son of the late Floyd and Arlene (Humberstone) Korten.
He had worked as a vending route man for 25 years with ARA Services in Windsor Locks. In 1984 along with his family, he pursued his true passion and became owner and operator of Water’s Edge Campground in Lebanon. He was a member of the Board of Directors and past President of the CT Campground Owners Association.
Bob was also an avid car enthusiast and member of Good Times Motoring Club of Colchester, taking great pride in his 1962 Chevy Impala SS.
In addition to his loving wife of 47 years, he leaves his twin sons, Brian and Bruce, both of Lebanon; four grandchildren, Alyssa, Michael, Steven and Nicholas; a great grandson, Weston; a brother, Paul of Meriden; his mother-in-law, Irene Gosselin of Lebanon; and numerous extended family members and friends.
Friends may call 4 to 6 PM Sunday (April 28th) at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester.
The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated 10:30 AM Monday directly at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 67 West Town St., Lebanon. Burial will follow in the New Lebanon Cemetery.
