Stephen Mastrianni

November 28, 1924 - April 3, 2011

Southington - Stephen Mastrianni, 86, passed away Sunday April 3, 2011 at Hospital of Central CT, Bradley Memorial. He was the beloved husband of Sophie (Askuntowicz) Mastrianni for 61 years.

He was born Nov. 28, 1924 in Southington, son of the late Steve and Mildred (Tinty) Mastrianni. He worked at Pexto Stow for 26 years and retired from New England Aircraft. He had attended the University of Hawaii. Steve was a WW II veteran in U.S. Navy with the Seabees. He was stationed in Hawaii and Midway. He was a past commander of the VFW, Kiltonic Post #72. Steve enjoyed gardening and was an avid woodworker.

Besides his devoted wife he leaves a brother George Mastrianni of Southington, several nieces and nephews.

Many thanks for the help given by family members and friends over the last few years.

The Funeral will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will be with Military Honors at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St.

Margaret (Viele) DiMartino

April 14, 1921 - April 6, 2011

Southington- Margaret (Viele) DiMartino, 89, of Stonegate Rd. passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at Hospital of Central CT, New Britain. She was the wife of Dorindo DiMartino and they were married for 69 years.

She was born April 14, 1921 in Southington daughter of the late Giuseppi and Theresa (Lorenzo) Viele. She retired from South End School as a teacher’s aide. She was a graduate of Lewis High School, class of 1940.

Besides her husband she is survived by her children, Doreen Ralston of Lexington, MA, Marsha Tomlinson of Bristol and Daniel DiMartino of Johns Creek, GA, 8 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Margaret was predeceased by her 5 siblings.

A Memorial service will be held Saturday, April 16, at 11:30 am at the

DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery.

Calling hours will Saturday from 10:30 am until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Charity of ones choice.

Pauline M. Burns

December 15, 1914 - April 10, 2011

Southington- Pauline M. Ryan Burns, 96, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday April 10, 2011.

She was born in Newton, MA on December 15, 1914.

Pauline and her beloved husband of 38 years, Cornelius Ryan, raised 9 children in Brooklyn, NY. She is survived by 7 children: Mary Pernetti (Nick) of Flushing, Queens; Ed Ryan (Peggy) of Pearl River, NY; Carol Madsen (Adam) of Coram, NY; Charlie Ryan (Merlin) of Brooklyn, NY; Danny Ryan (Carol) of Dedham, ME; Larry Ryan (Pat) of Southington, CT; Joan Cunningham (Tom) of Roswell, GA; and her son-in-law Larry Madden of Hauppauge, NY. She was blessed with 31 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

She was pre-deceased by her son Thomas and daughter Connie Madden.

Friends are invited to call at DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 10:15 a.m. from the Funeral Home to St. Thomas Church, 99 Bristol St., Southington for a Mass at 11 a.m.

JoAnn Charette

December 26, 1937 - April 7, 2011

Southington- Jo Ann (Marotto) Charette, 73, of Palm City, FL formerly of Southington, passed away April 7, 2011 after a brief illness. She was born in Southington on Dec. 26, 1937, the daughter of the late James and Anna (Polumbo) Marotto. Jo Ann was the beloved wife of Harold Charette of 53 years. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and was devoted to her family. Jo Ann is a graduate of Southington High School class of 1955. She later earned her Master’s Degree in Business Education from Central Connecticut State University in 1973 where she graduated with honors in the Delta Pi Epsilon Honor Society. Jo Ann taught for many years at Plainville High School and later in her career also taught at Briarwood College and The Sawyer School of Business until her retirement in 1999. Jo Ann enjoyed boating with her husband and family for many years where she traveled to varied places and made many special life-long friends. Following her retirement, she and her husband moved to Palm City, FL where she had many friends and enjoyed her favorite hobbies. Jo Ann loved playing Mah Jong, Canasta, going on cruises and traveling with her husband, going to the theater, playing on her computer and spending time with her family and friends.

She leaves her adoring husband Harold of Palm City, FL and her children Jeff Charette and his wife Candy of Hooksett, NH; Gail (Charette) Kirstein and her husband Harold of Avon and Scott Charette and his wife Michele of Flanders, NJ; her sister Rita (Marotto) Bartlett; her sister-in-law Gloria (Charette) Cyr and her husband Leonard and brother-in-law Albert Charette and his wife Phyllis all of Southington and her cherished grandchildren Joseph Paradis, Carolyn Charette, Ashli Charette and Rachel Charette and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She also leaves her precious dog and loyal companion, Mindi.

Jo Ann was thankful to everyone for their loving support during her illness. She touched many lives and will be missed by all who knew her.

The Funeral will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011 from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. to St. Thomas Church for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday from 4-8 p.m.

Clinton S. Downes

October 30, 1925 - April 15, 2011

SOUTHINGTON - Clinton S. Downes, 85, husband of the late Barbara (Martin) Downes passed away on Friday at the Summit at Plantsville.

Born on October 30, 1925 in New York City, he was the son of the late Clinton and Mary (Hajek) Downes. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He was a retired employee of Wallace Silversmith Co in Wallingford and had also been employed at Lake Compounce Amusement Park and Maine Coast Lobster. He enjoyed gardening especially planting trees.

Mr. Downes is survived by his three sons Jeffrey P. and his wife Shirley Downes of Harwinton, Timothy J. Downes, David M. and his wife Beverly Downes all of Southington, a sister Mary Heath of Altmar, NY five grandchildren Justin, Sara, Elizabeth, Matthew and Abby Downes, and a great grandson Jeremy. Besides his wife he was predeceased by a son Clinton Downes III.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 6 to 8 PM at DellaVecchia Funeral Home 211 N. Main St.

John Bonomi Jr.

August 16, 1962 - April 16, 2011

Meriden - John Bonomi Jr., 48, of South Main St. passed away Saturday, April 16, 2011 as a result of an automobile accident.

He was born August 16, 1962 son of John Bonomi Sr. of Southington and Marie (Rossi) Bonomi of Southington.

Besides his parents he leaves a son Jonathan Bonomi of Meriden and a daughter Tiffany, a sister Tammy LaTino of Bristol and a niece Corrie Bonomi and a nephew Joseph LaTino.

The Funeral Service will be Wednesday 11:30 a.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington. Calling hours will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

William L. Flynn Jr.

October 25, 1937 - April 16, 2011

Oak Bluffs, MA - William L. Flynn Jr. 73, formerly of Southington, CT passed away on April 16, 2011 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was the husband of Kathleen (Reinhard) Flynn.

He was born in New Britain, CT on Oct. 25, 1937, the son of the late William L. and Helen (Willis) Flynn Sr. He was a Veteran of the US Marine Corp serving as a Corporal and was stationed in Okinawa. Mr. Flynn was the proud owner and operator of Flynn’s Motor Express for many years in Southington, and for the past 10 years he was employed by Island Propane on Martha’s Vineyard. Bill enjoyed flying his plane and riding his motorcycle. He was a member of the American Legion in Vineyard Haven and a member of the Retread Motorcycle Club. Mr. Flynn was a parishioner of Lady Star of the Sea Church.

In addition to his wife he leaves a son Daniel Flynn of Oak Bluffs, MA, two daughters, Mora and husband Rodrigo Garza of Unionville, CT and Nancy and husband Andrew Florian of Southington, CT, three brothers Richard, Michael and Robert Flynn all of Southington, a sister Kathleen Joy of FL, 4 grandchildren, Andrew and Jennifer Florian, Diego and Mateo Garza. He was predeceased by a son William L. Flynn III.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Cemetery, Meriden Ave. Southington, CT with Military Honors. There are no calling hours.

Solange Haire

January 8, 1921 - April 20, 2011

Southington- Solange P. Haire, 90, formerly of Center Dr., passed away on Jan. 29, 2011 at Ingraham Manor in Bristol. She was the wife of the late Gordon J. Haire.

Solange was born in Canada on Jan. 8, 1921, daughter of the late Arthur and Marie-Ann (Vermett) Perkins. She was employed by Cigna Insurance Corp. (formerly Aetna).

Solange is survived by her two children J. Gordon Haire and his wife JoAnne of Enfield and MaryAnn Pinkerton and her husband Richard of Terryville, a sister Constance Clinker-Limoges of Zepherhills, FL, four grandchildren Christopher Pinkerton, Rebecca Records and her husband Brian, Jodi Steppen and her husband Jeremy, and Jennifer Haire.

She is also survived by four great-grandchildren William, Thomas, Holly and Landon along with several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers and John and Victor Perkins, and three sisters Theresa Perkins, Madeline Shields, and Claire Bluteau.

Services will be held graveside at Oak Hill Cemetery on Saturday April 30 at 11:30 AM. Donations in her memory can be made to the American Cancer Society, 825 Brook St. I-91 Tech Ctr. Robert Orlan Wood

July 14, 1952 - August 7, 2010

Southington-Robert “Bob” Orlan Wood, 58, of Plantsville section ,passed away at home on Saturday, August 7, 2010 from a massive heart attack. born in Lewiston, Maine on July 14, 1952, a son of Robert Wood and the late Francis (Cobb) Wood, he had resided in Southington for most of his adult life with his wife and three children. Bob was a graduate of Edward Little High School-Class of 1969 and later received a bachelor’s degree from CCSU in accounting. Bob was a CPA establishing his own business, Wood & Associates, while working for his long-time employer, Goodwin College, Stone Academy and CT Training Center in East Hartford. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the Southington Lions Club. He attended Emmanuel Baptist Church in Newington.

Bob enjoyed taking his children and grandson to Rock Cat baseball games, fishing in Canada and ice-skating. He cherished his many baseball caps and his funny tee-shirt collection. Bob treated his clients like they were family and will be missed by those people whose lives he touched.

Bob is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lauren (Amenta) Wood, and their three children, Jennifer Wood of Forestville, Stephanie Wood and her boyfriend, Suraj Gunpat, of Waterbury, Kristi Wood and her boyfriend, Mark Karotkin, of Plantsville; his grandson, Dillon Oliviero and his father Dante Oliviero; his sister, Sharon Wood of Newington; his brother, David Wood and wife, Sandra, of Lisbon, ME; his father, Robert Wood and his wife, Millie, of Farmington, ME; several nieces and nephews. He also leaves his lifelong friends Joe and Carol DiPietro

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 296 New Britain Ave, Newington Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Della Vecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington.

Elizabeth Kleczkowski

August 8, 1978 - October 29, 2011

New Britain - Elizabeth (Long) Kleczkowski, 33, passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2011, after a brief illness. She was the wife of James P. Kleczkowski.

She was born on Aug. 8, 1978, the daughter of Thomas J. and Linda (Stacy) Long.

Elizabeth was a 1996 Graduate of Southington High School and she graduated from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NYC. She was an accomplished singer and she participated in Southington Community Theater. She was an animal rights activist and loved her two dogs Louie and Abigail. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

Besides her husband and parents she is survived by her cherished sisters Kathleen Long of Boston, MA and Stacie Long of New Hartford, a stepson Sean Kleczkowski, her maternal grandparents, Glenn and Marjorie Stacy of Danielson, her mother and father –in-law Claudette and John Kleczkowski of Rockfall, she also leaves many cousins, aunts, uncles, in-laws and friends.

Beth was taken too soon, she touched the lives of all she met.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 145 Main St. Southington. Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington.

Geraldine (Buck) Pearl

Born: November 5, 1933

Death: October 28, 2011

Southington-Geraldine (Buck) Pearl, 77, a former resident of Southington, passed away on Oct. 28, 2011. She was the wife of the late Howard Pearl.

She was born on Nov. 5, 1933 in Lewiston, ME, the daughter of the Llewellyn and Flora (LaForge) Buck.

She is survived by her children, Steven H. Pearl Sr. and wife Hermas of Rockland, ME, Darlene E. and husband Len Rak of Beaver Creek, OH, and Tracy A. and husband Paul Schweiger of Southington and 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandson a sister, Geneva Collins of Orchard Park, NY. She was predeceased by a daughter Brenda Pearl and a sister Jeannette Jones.

Her Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:15 am. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. to St. Thomas Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

Joseph Kane

June 2, 1923 - November 3, 2011

Southington - Joseph Egan Kane, 88, of Plantsville, passed away Thursday November 3, 2011 with his loving wife and best friend of 62 years, Agnes (DeVylder) Kane, by his side. A native of Southington, Joseph was the son of the late John E. and Veronica (Egan) Kane. Joseph attended Lewis High School and St. Thomas Seminary before serving his country with the US Army during WWII. He graduated from St. Bonaventure University and served as the Town Assessor in Cheshire and later, for the city of New Britain where he worked for 28 years until his retirement. Joseph was ordained a Deacon in the Catholic Church in 1976 and served at many churches including St. Aloysius (Plantsville), St. Patrick (Farmington), St. John the Evangelist and St. Jerome (both in New Britain).

Joseph loved his family and was in his glory when surrounded by them. His other passions included golf, bowling, and of course, cheering on his Yankees.

Besides his wife, Joseph is survived by a daughter and 4 sons, Sheila Dubinsky and her husband Jay of Plantsville with whom he made his home, Edward Kane and his wife Cathy of Farmington, Joseph and his wife Jean, Kevin and his wife Debbie all of New Britain and Gerard Kane of Severn, MD. Joseph was also the proud grandfather of 16 grandchildren; Jayme, Michael, Dale, and Jared Dubinsky, and Jennifer, James, Anthony, Timothy, Frank, Patrick, Kathleen, Conor, Brianne, Liam, Michelle, and Abraham Kane, 6 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers James and Harold Kane and grandson Steven Kane.

The funeral will be held on Monday November 7, 2011 at 9:15 am from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home 211 N. Main St., Southington to St. Aloysius Church for a mass at 10 am. Burial with military honors will be in St. Bridgets Cemetery, Cheshire. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 2-6 pm. Irene Flugard

December 17, 1925 - November 4, 2011

Southington- Irene (Sachek) Flugard, 85, passed away on Friday November 4, 2011 at The Alzheimer's Resource Center in Plantsville. She was the wife of the late Otto Flugard.

Irene was born on December 17, 1925 in New Britain and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Grace (Vankirk) Sachek.

Prior to her retirement she was an elementary school teacher for the Southington School System.

She is survived by her son Dennis Otto Flugard and wife Beth of Thousand Oaks, CA, a son-in-law Joseph Lux of Glastonbury, grandchildren Daniel and Adriana. Besides her husband she was predeceased by daughters Ruth Flugard Lux and Heidi Flugard.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday November 8, 2011 at noon at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home 211 N. Main St. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Irene Swider

January 1, 1928 - November 6, 2011

Southington - Irene (Bajek) Swider, 83, passed away on Nov. 6, 2011. She was the beloved wife of the late Frank Swider for 63 years who recently passed away. Irene leaves behind her loving daughter Sandy Kujawski of Southington and her husband Joe, and three granddaughters Kristen, Kara and Katelyn and her son David Swider and his wife Nancy of Bristol, and granddaughters Amanda and Sara. Irene was predeceased by her brother Joseph Bajek and sisters Sophie Zyla, Ann Smuzewski,Ceil Suprynowicz, and Florence Mackiewicz. The majority of her life she was employed by the Fafnir Bearing Company in New Britain. She was an active member of St. Dominic Church and the Calendar House. Irene enjoyed painting, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

The funeral will be held on Thur. Nov. 10, 2011 at 10:30 am at St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Rd., Southington. Visitation will be from 9-10 am at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery.

Charlie Hogan

August 11, 1940 - November 7, 2011

Cheshire - Charlie Hogan, 71, passed away Monday, Nov. 7, 2011 at home. He was the loving husband and best friend of Rita (Grosser) Hogan.

He was born in New Haven on Aug. 11, 1940, the son of the late John and Mary Angelus (Leahy) Hogan.

Prior to his retirement, Charlie was an electrician and worked for Fiora Electric for over 30 years. He was a member of IBEW Local # 90. He was a parishioner of the Church of the Epiphany. Charlie was a member of Family Campers and RVer’s, CT FCRV, the Happy Wanderers. He enjoyed camping and playing washer toss.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Charles Hogan Jr. of York, PA, Charlene Spillane of Dallastown, PA, Eric Carta of Middletown, Christina Hogan of Enterprise, AL, Tracy and husband Paul Thurston of Greenwich, NY 6 grandchildren, Chrissy Spillane, Kelly Spillane, James Hogan, Paul Thurston III, Andrew Thurston and Joseph Thurston a great granddaughter Addison Denenberg.

He also leaves 2 brothers, John and wife Katie Hogan of Milford, James and wife Pauline Hogan of Clinton, a sister Mary Jane and husband Bob Thompson of Clinton also brothers-in-law Joseph Grosser and wife Barbara of Sommers and Frank Grosser and wife Blanche of Bethany.

He was predeceased by a daughter Carol Lynn Hogan and daughter-in-law Cathy Hogan.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Epiphany, 1750 Huckins Rd., Cheshire. Calling hours will be on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Southington. David R. Dougan, Sr.

May 26, 1930 - November 7, 2011

Southington - David R. Dougan Sr., 81, passed away on Nov. 7, 2011 at HCC at Bradley Memorial. He was the husband of Beverly (Smith) Dougan.

Born in Manchester, he was the son of the late Harold and Harriet Dougan. David was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War. Prior to his retirement he was employed by Southington Hardware for over 25 years. He was a member of the Southington Masonic Lodge No.33 AF of AM.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Christopher Dougan and Starr Sarrazin of South Meriden, Randy Dougan of Southington, Jody Doar and husband Anthony of Needham, MA, 4 grandchildren, Kristy and Kelly Dougan and Adam and Jonathan Doar, a brother John Dougan and wife Marge of Middletown. He was predeceased by his son David R. Dougan Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 12 noon at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington. Calling hours will be Friday from 10:30 a.m. - 12 noon. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
