Rachel Anne Sottosanti
Rachel Anne Sottosanti, 19, of Stamford, died on April 24, 2009.
She is survived by her mother, Cheryl Carlin; her father, David Sottosanti; and three sisters: Dayna, Erin and Leah Sottosanti. She is also survived by her maternal grandparents, Kathleen and Eugene Carlin of Greenwich; her paternal grandmother, Lena Sottosanti of Greenwich; Gene and Wendy Carlin of Vestal, N.Y. ; Colleen and Scott Nastahowski of Greenwich; Brian and Dona Carlin of Greenwich; nine cousins: Patrick, Alexandra, Emma, Ava, Scott, Shane, Courtney, Brendan, Dominique; and many other aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Anne Ursula Stanulonis
Anne Ursula Stanulonis, 80, of 20 Middlefield Street, Groton Long Point, died April 30, 2009 at Mary Elizabeth Nursing Center.
Anne was born on November 10, 1928 in Bialystok, Poland. She was the daughter of the late Maximilian Piekarska and Olga Janewicz. She married Joseph S. Stanulonis on September 1, 1958 at St. Joseph Church in Norwich, CT. He predeceased her in January 2006.
Anne immigrated to the United States following the end of World War II. She originally resided in Meriden, Connecticut. While working as a nanny, Anne went to night school to become a nurse. Not speaking a word of English, Anne used Polish and English dictionaries to translate coursework and complete assignments. She successfully completed her nursing degree at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. Anne and Joe maintained their primary residence in Greenwich and spent summers at their cottage in Groton Long Point. Anne worked for many years as a R.N. at Greenwich Hospital and as a private duty nurse. Anne was a devoted and loving mother and wife. Her love for her family was immense.
Anne is survived by her three children; Mark Stanulonis and his wife Frances of Groton Long Point, Joanne Stanulonis and Paul Stanulonis of Los Angeles, California and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on May 4 at St. Joseph Church in Norwich, and burial immediately followed at St. Joseph Cemetery. Rita Vitiello
Rita Vitiello of Riverside, 86, died on April 25, 2009.
Vitiello was born on Sept. 10, 1922 in Ponza, Italy to Aniello and Libera Vitiello. She emigrated to the U.S. in 1969.
Vitiello loved gardening and cooking for her whole family. She also enjoyed helping with the family's
two restaurants, That Little Italian Restaurant,
which recently closed in Byram, and Villa Italia in Stamford.
Vitiello was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, and she and her husband were very active in St. Catherine's Church in Riverside.
She is survived by her daughter Libera and son-in-law Salvatore Stimma of Riverside; a son, Paolo Vitiello and his companion Lisa of Greenwich; a daughter, Ester Lebreton Vitiello of Cos Cob; and son Aniello and daughter-in-law Debbie of Riverside. She is also survived by her eleven grandchildren: Edo, Anthony, and Michael Stimma; Vanessa Mann; Louis, Rita, and Paolo Vitiello, and their mother Jennifer; Martina, Loetitia, John Louis, and Sammy Lebreton; and Samantha Giordano. She is also survived by one great-grandson, Sammy Mann. She was predeceased by her husband, Luigi Vitiello in 2000. Her three sisters, Fiora, Anna, and Libera, also predeceased her.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on May 2 at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Riverside and entombment followed in St. Mary Cemetery.

Royal Goodridge Whiting, Jr.
Royal Goodridge Whiting, Jr., 88, World War II veteran, died on April 18, 2009.
He was educated at Belmont Hill and graduated from Harvard University in 1942. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army as a First Lieut. 947th Bat. in the South Pacific.
Whiting lived in Greenwich, Paris, France; Big Indian, N.Y.; and Southbury. He was stock broker who became a partner at Hornblower & Weeks. He touched many lives with his generosity, humor and spirit.
He is survived by two daughters, Emily Kane of Seattle, Wash. And Sarah Jenkinson of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and a sister, Helen Whiting Livingston of Peterborough, N.H. He is also survived by his three nieces Elizabeth Leyre, Rev. Deborah Little Wyman, Martha Livingston. Whiting was predeceased by his wife, Jane Semple, in 2000 and a daughter, Susan Konyak, in 1975.
Joann Witek
Joann "Jenny" Witek passed away on May 4, 2009 at the Rosenthal Hospice Residence.
She was born to Henry and Barbara Zezot in Lawrence, Mass. on June 25, 1919, and grew up in Norwalk. She was married to the late Ludwik Witek of Greenwich for over 60 years.
Witek was an integral part of Witek's Soundview Studios of Greenwich for many years, and a volunteer at Nathaniel Witherell and Neighbor to Neighbor. She was also a longtime member of AARP and of the Joseph Pilsudski Society on Arch St. in Greenwich.
Witek had a lifelong love of gardening, and spent many hours riding the Island Beach Ferry.
She is survived by her two sons, Lou and wife Peg of Venice, Fla., and Henry and his wife Diane of Milford; as well as four grandsons: David and wife Lee of Churchton, Md.; Geoffrey of San Francisco, Calif.; Steven from Milford and Keith and his wife Brielle from Jersey City, N.J.. Witek is also survived by two great- grandsons, Max and Zane also of Md.; a sister, Blanche Pinto of Norwalk, a brother-in-law, Dr. Fred Witek of Port Chester, N.Y., many nieces and nephews and longtime friends. She was predeceased by a sister, Leona Patella.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held today at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Greenwich. Entombment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.

James Bob W. Catto
James Bob Catto, 91, a retired carpenter and lifelong Greenwich resident, died on March 7, 2007.
He was born on July 17, 1915 to the late James and MaryAnn Catto. Catto worked as a carpenter and later retired from Connecticut Natural Gas. Catto is survived by his wife, Irene S. Catto of Greenwich; a daughter, Barbara Merchant of Greenwich; and a son, James Catto of Bellevue, Idaho. He also is survived by six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents he was predeceased by a daughter, Lee Ann Armstrong.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place today at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 178 Greenwich Ave. Interment will follow in St. Mary s Cemetery. The Castiglione Funeral Home of Greenwich is handling the arrangements.

Robert Bob Irvine
Robert Bob Irvine, 77, a U.S. Navy veteran and former Greenwich resident, died on Feb. 13, 2007 after a long battle with emphysema. He was born on Dec. 15, 1929 in Greenwich to the late Hugh and Mary W. Irvine. He attended the Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia and graduated from the Edgewood School in Greenwich, where he played football.
Irvine served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War as a corpsman at the Oaknoll Naval Hospital in California, where he met his future wife, Mary L. Allterton. He returned to Greenwich with his wife and began his lifetime work as an engineer with Pitney Bowes of Stamford until his retirement in 1988.
He and his wife subsequently moved to Santa Rosa, Calif., where Irvine continued playing golf. In 2003, Irvine and his wife returned to Connecticut and settled in Clinton to be closer to their children.
In addition to his wife of 55 years, Irvine is survived by four children, Robert H. Irvine of Stafford, Va., Alan Lani M. Irvine of Stamford and Wendy W. Larson and Laurel E. Irvine of Clinton; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews, most of whom reside in Scotland.
A memorial service celebrating his life will take place at the Second Congregational Church in Greenwich on Monday at 4 p.m.
The Swan Funeral Home of Clinton is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial Service Slated for Moore
A memorial service for Robert J. Moore, who died on Jan. 21, 2007, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10, at the Noroton Presbyterian Church, 2011 Boston Post Road, Darien. A reception will follow at the Riverside Yacht Club in Riverside.
Wilma Skorvanek Buszta
Wilma Skorvanek Buszta, 92, a Greenwich native, died recently. born May 9, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sophia Reisman Skorvanek. She married Louis J. Buszta on April 26, 1936. Buszta was a caterer for more than 40 years, and often used her talents to help various churches and the elderly.
She is survived by her three children, Louis Buszta of Southport, N.C., Sister Janice of East Haven and Ronald Buszta of Fairfield; a grandson, Jeffrey Buszta of Santa Rosa, Fla.; a granddaughter, Carly Ellen Buszta of Stamford, and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, and interment followed at St. Mary's Cemetery in Rye Brook, N.Y. The Castiglione Funeral Home handled arrangements. Memorial donations: Entertain-ment Center at Connecticut Health Care, 1188 King St., Greenwich, CT 06831.
Joyce Carey Dolan
Joyce Carey Dolan, 77, of Pine Knoll Shores, N.C., formerly of Old Greenwich, died June 4 at home. born on March 1, 1929 in the Bronx, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late John and Marguerite Gillen Carey. She received a B.A. degree from Notre Dame College for Women in Baltimore, and earned am M.F.A. from Fordham University.
She also attended New York State College of Industrial Relations (Cornell Extension) in New York City. Dolan was a teacher in the inner-city New York City School System for 25 years and was chapter chairperson with the United Federation of Teachers.
She was also coordinator for the United Federation of Teachers retirees programs, North Carolina section. She is survived by her husband, Thomas E. Dolan; a son, Carey John Dolan and his wife, Karen Robostelli Dolan, of Clifton, Va.; three daughters, Ellen Dolan Vogal and her husband, Peter H. Jr., of Centerville, Ohio, Maura Dolan Russell and her husband, Charles H., of Brick Township, N.J., and Patricia Dolan Thomas and her husband, Kyle, of Lansing, N.Y.; and 10 grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a son, Thomas "Ted" Dolan, and a sister, Jeanne Carey Murray. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Egbert Catholic Church in Morehead City, N.C., and the burial followed at St. Paul Catholic Church Cemetery, New Bern. Katharine V.S. Howe
Katharine V. S. "Toddy" Howe, 90, of Delray Beach, Fla., a former Greenwich resident, died May 29. born Sept. 21, 1915, she was the daughter of Adrian and Jean Van Sinderen, and grew up in Brooklyn Heights, N.Y. and Washington, Conn. She was educated at the Packer Institute in Brooklyn Heights, Miss Porter's School in Farmington and earned an AA degree from Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, N.Y.
She was married to Chauncey Fox Howe in 1938 and, after World War II, they settled in Greenwich for more than 25 years. For the past 33 years, she lived in Delray Beach, where, as in Greenwich, she was involved with music. She sang with the Greenwich Choral Society and the Delray Beach Chorale and served as president of both organizations.
Howe is survived by her three daughters, Katharine Gildersleeve of Stonington, Barbara Kozi-kowski of Boca Raton, Fla., and Susan Bailey of Raleigh, N.C.; six grandchildren, Kary, Jeffrey, David, Wendy, Amy and Katie; two great- grandsons, Dylan and Colby; and a sister, Jean V.S. Henry of Middle-bury. Her husband of 47 years predeceased her in 1985. A memorial service was held June 10 in the First Congregational Church of Washington, Conn. The burial was private. John W. Lyons
John W. "Bill" Lyons, 81, of Leesburg, Fla., formerly of Green-wich and Orleans, Mass., succumbed to a five-month battle with cancer on May 24. born May 20, 1925 in Bronxville, N.Y., he was the son of the late J. Austin and Virginia Lyons. He was raised in White-stone, N.Y., attended Rutgers University and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Lyons raised his family in Greenwich from 1962-88 and, after a long career in construction sales, retired and moved to Cape Cod, Mass.
During the next seven years, he divided his time between Cape Cod and Florida, where he helped oversee the design and construction of the Bella Vista Golf and Yacht Club. In 1995, he moved to Florida permanently. Lyons was a longtime member of Tamarack Country Club in Greenwich and Brewster Golf Club in Brewster, Mass.
He is survived by seven daughters and two sons, Mo Fettig of Brewster, Karen Chmielinski of Rehoboth, Mass., Sunny Taylor of Old Greenwich, Kelly Bizilj of Olympia, Wash., Liz Paris of Pittsfield, Mass., Casey Hammond of Orleans, Nelly Sheehan of W. Barnstable, Mass., John "Jake" W. Lyons Jr. of West Hartford and Hank Lyons of Brookfield; and 23 grandchildren.
His wife, Grace, predeceased him, in 1976, and a daughter, Maggie Lyons, died in 1991. A remembrance celebration for family and friends will be held Saturday at Old Jailhouse Tavern, 28 West Road in Orleans, Mass., from 1 4 p.m. For information, call (508) 869-7418. Jane Durrant McElree
Jane Durrant McElree, 86, died May 11 in Annapolis, Md. She was born March 15, 1920 in Columbus, Ohio. She lived for many years in Greenwich, and retired with her husband, Robert L. McElree, who predeceased her, to Venice, Fla., in 1983. She served in the Navy during WWII.
She was a member of the Jacaranda West CC and Venice Yacht Club in Venice. She is survived by her children, Ellen McElree of Annapolis, Wayne McElree of Danbury and Susan McElree of Stamford; three grandchildren; a brother, William E. Durrant of Columbus, Ohio; and a sister, June Boger of Rock Hill, S.C. Her husband predeceased her.
There was a graveside service at Union Cemetery in Ohio. The Schoedinger Funeral Home handled arrangements. Memorial donations: Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
Frank H. Merry
Frank H. Merry, 86, a decorated World War II veteran and Green-wich native, died on June 3. He was born on Aug. 15, 1919, attended St. Mary's Parochial Grammar School and graduated from Greenwich High School in 1938. Merry joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942, serving as radio operator/side gunner in a B-26 Martin Marauder, flying a record 63 missions with the 322 Bomber Group, 451st Squadron out of England, France and Belgium. He received numerous citations, including the Air Medal in 1944.
He was discharged in 1945 with the rank of technical sergeant, returning home to wed Mary E. Tierney on Nov. 24, 1945. They were married nearly 49 years.
A graduate of the RCA Institute, Merry joined Remington Rand Corp. in 1949. He moved to CBS Technology Center in 1956, and served as supervisor of test equipment and calibration services, working on projects including the Surveyor 1 and 11, the Apollo Mission's Mini-Video Camera, Laser Disc Recording and Digital Photography. He retired in 1985. He continued working part-time at St. Joseph's Hospital in Stamford, maintaining and calibrating medical test equipment. Merry was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary's R.C. Church in Stamford and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by three sons, Rev. Paul F. Merry of Bridgeport, Richard F. Merry and his wife, Lucille, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and Brian F. Merry and his wife, Peggy, of Monroe; a daughter, Barbara A. Merry of Stamford; two sisters-in-law, Rose Tierney and Anne Merry; a brother-in-law, Michael F. Tierney and his wife, Jean, and their family.
Other survivors include nine grandchildren, Meghan Curran Merry; Katherine, Richard and Elizabeth Merry; Christopher Januski, Laura Halpern, Shannon Merry Nowotny, John and Matthew Merry; two great-grandchildren, Finnian Patrick and Aiden Grey Nowotny; a nephew, Michael C. Merry of Denver; and three nieces, Patricia Nicosia of Trumbull and Merry and Jane Repik of Green-wich.
Merry was predeceased by his parents, Ezekiel and Margaret Stephenson Merry; three brothers, Harold, Charles E. and John Merry; and his wife, Mary, in 1994. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Mary's Church in Stamford and interment followed at St. Mary's Cemetery in Greenwich. Memorial donations: St. Mary's R.C. Marietta Wyman Morriss
Marietta Wyman Morriss, a longtime Cos Cob resident, died May 28 in Essex. She was the daughter of the late John Harvey and Grace Eleanor Ferguson Wyman. Morriss was a lifelong member of the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, and was the historian general of the National Society from 1971-74.
She was a member of the Nathan Hale Chapter, DAR, and was the state regent of the Connecticut DAR. Her memberships in other patriotic organizations included the Colonial Dames of the XVII Century, Dames of the Court of Honor and Daughters of the Colonial Wars Locally, Morriss was a member of the Greenwich's Women's Club, where she organized the first Meals on Wheels program. She was an active Greenwich Hospital volunteer for 15 years and was a member of the Putnam Hill Chapter, DAR.
She is survived by a son, George Wyman Morriss and his wife, Susan, of Guilford; grandchildren Kelly Morriss Spector and her husband, Michael, of Bethesda, Md., Gregg Wyman Morriss and his wife, Tara, of West Hartford, and Keith G.R. Morriss and his wife, Janessa, of San Francisco; and great-grandchildren Jacob Morriss Spector and Lillian Rehnberg Spector, both of Bethesda. She was predeceased by her sister, Margaret Elizabeth Wyman.

Eugenia Yanez
Eugenia Yanez, 59, a 20-year resident of Greenwich, died on May 29 at her parents' home in Santa Rosa-Sangolqui, Ecuador. born June 14, 1946, she was the daughter of Gustavo Alfonso Yanez and Blanca Salcedo de Yanez. She was an executive assistant for Prince Ventures LLC, and later accounting manager for Greenwich Automotive Services. Yanez was the Saturday manager for Neighbor to Neighbor and a volunteer for the Friendly Visitor Program under the direction of Family Centers. She also taught Sunday school and English as a Second Language Program at St. Mary's Parish, and was a member of the prayer group at Sacred Heart Parish.
She is survived by her parents, 10 brothers and sisters, and 20 nieces and nephews. She was beloved by her "adopted" family in the United States, Mr. and Mrs. James W. Fordyce, and their sons, Alex, Marshall and Jamie, all formerly of Greenwich. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in Ecuador on May 31. A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, June 17 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church on Greenwich Avenue. Memorial donations: Neighbor to Neighbor, 248 East Putnam Ave., Greenwich, CT 06830.
Catherine Coughlin Ziac
Catherine Coughlin Ziac, of Greenwich, died peacefully June 1 at The Nathaniel Witherell nursing home. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Church and later a member of St. Mary's Parish. In her early years Ziac volunteered at various civic organizations including the Greenwich Community Chest, American Red Cross and American Lung Association. She was a long-time member of the Sokol Club of Byram and was granted lifetime membership in the organization.
She is beloved survived by her children, Joan Pankosky, John Ziac and his wife, Nancy, Mary Benoit and her husband, Joe, and Linda Ziac; six grandchildren, Jay Pankosky and his wife, Jill, of New Canaan, Chris Pankosky and his wife, Angie, of Gaithersburg, Md., Joshua Ziac and his wife, Emily, of Cos Cob, Jonathan Ziac and his wife, Heather, of Fairfield and Victoria and Joseph Benoit of Riverside.
She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren: Brad, Sarah, Emily, Hayley and Jack Pankosky, and Christopher and Catherine Ziac. She was predeceased by her husband, John Ziac Jr., and her brother, Laurence Coughlin. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St Mary's Church in Greenwich and burial was private. The Leo P. John M. Kingery

John Marston Kingery, 85, of Greenwich, Ct. died September 24, 2008 in his home. He was born in 1923 in White Plains, New York, and was the son of the late Dr. Lisle Byron Kingery and Margaret Reynolds. He attended St. Lawrence University and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a B-26 pilot during World War II. John had a love of family, cars, horses, scuba diving, boating and tennis.
His life-long love of automobiles started with Russell Motors in White Plains. In 1957, in partnership with Lyman Russell, he purchased Rye Ford, Inc. located on the Boston Post Road in Rye, New York. Two years later, he became full owner of the dealership. In 1974, he started Rye Subaru. He participated in the operation of these businesses for over 50 years until his death. The multigenerational business continues to be managed by his son James.
John loved horses, entering Hunter Pace jumping events, calf roping contests and showing Quarter Horses. His favorite horse, Mr. Bar Do Too won the AQHA National Jumping Championship in 1975. He and his family spent much of their leisure time riding together on the beautiful trails in Greenwich.
John is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Audrey, and by five children: Sue Kingery of Atlanta, Jay Kingery (Mary) of Santa Fe New Mexico, Michael Kingery of Stuart Florida, James (Fiona) of Old Greenwich, and Jody Womsley (Mark) of Rhode Island. He is predeceased by his oldest son, Jack. He has four grandchildren.
John and his wife have lived in Greenwich since 1963 and have a winter residence in Grand Cayman, British West Indies.

He immigrated to the United States in 1954 and has been a lifetime resident of Port Chester, NY. He was a retired postal worker, taxi driver and veteran. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Angela Tedesco and their children, Nella and her husband John Viesta, and John Tedesco Jr. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren, Justin Viesta, Michael Tedesco, Yvonne Tedesco, and James Tedesco. She was predeceased by her husband, Vincent E. Mattison in May 1979. She is survived by two sons, Vincent E. Mattison, Jr. and his wife Hope of New Fairfield, Ct. and George S. Mattison of Cape Coral, Florida. In addition, she is survived by daughter-in-law Elaine Raynor Mattison of North Carolina.
She was also predeceased by three brothers, Michael, Joseph and Robert Belmonte and, two sisters, Josephine Stempel and Ellen Galleta. She is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, William and Marion Belmonte of Trumbull, Ct.
She is survived by four loving grandchildren, Gregg Mattison of Danbury, Ct., Brooke Mattison of Spartanburg, S.C., Michele C. Pues and her husband Richard of Danbury, Ct. and, Carrie J. Wauthier and her husband Roland of Norwalk, Ct.

Dena M. Miceli, 87, of Greenwich, passed away Friday, January 14th, 2011 at the Richard L. Rosenthal Hospice Residence of Stamford, Connecticut.
Dena was born on December 20th, 1923 in Stamford, Connecticut, daughter of the late Susan and Vito Sabato. In addition to her husband, Ben of 63 years, Dena is survived by her two daughters, Susan Valente of Stamford, and Lisa Burns of Weston, son in laws, John Valente and David Burns, two grandchildren Kelsey and Carleigh Sher and 4 step grandchildren, David Burns Jr., Kelly Burns, Patrick Burns and Krista Valente, and many nieces and nephews. Dena is predeceased by her siblings Carmella Sabato, Josephine Macchio, and Austin Sabato. In her early years, Dena worked with her mother as a seamstress. She then worked at Pitney Bowes in Stamford, Connecticut where she had many fond memories of all the wonderful people she worked with there. In 1947, Ben and Dena were married and subsequently moved to Greenwich, Connecticut where they raised their family. Later, Dena worked for the Town of Greenwich where she worked until 1991. She was the epitome of a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her life revolved around her family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at St. Roch’s Church, 10 Saint Roch Ave, Greenwich, Connecticut. Internment will take place in St. John’s Cemetery, 25 Camp Avenue, Darien, Connecticut. Ann E. Merovich, 85, of Riverside, passed away on January 16, 2011 at Greenwich Hospital. She was born in Port Chester, NY a daughter of the late Frank and Ida Yaras Markus. Ann is survived by her son Andrew T. Merovich, a sister Patricia Markus, her grandchildren Heather and Andrew Merovich and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Andrew P. Merovich, a son John Merovich, a sister Helen Robinson and a brother Andrew Markus.
Ann was a longtime parishioner and volunteer at St. Catherine’s Church.

Winona Grant Palmer of Delray Beach, Fla., a former longtime Darien resident, died Wednesday, March 29, from complications associated with Alzheimer's disease. She was 84. born Feb. 11, 1922, in Kortright, N.Y., she was the daughter of Lee P. and Helen G. Grant. Following graduation from Union Endicott High School in 1938, she joined IBM Corp. in Endicott, N.Y., as a secretary.
