Lauren F. Brooks
Lauren F. Brooks, 57, of Old Greenwich, a leading Realtor in the area for many years, lost her struggle with metastatic breast cancer on Oct. 12. She was the daughter-in-law of B.V. Brooks, former publisher of the Brooks Community Newspapers.
Originally from Palo Alto, Calif., Brooks graduated from Cubberley High School and Cal Poly in San Luis, Obispo, where she was a member of Delta Chi Omega. She met her husband, Torrey, when she was the registrar at the Stanford Business School. They married in the Napa Valley and settled in Greenwich in March 1985.
She was a member of the Greenwich Board of Realtors for 17 years, was founder and president of Brody Realty, and was a member of the Greenwich Country Club.
For the past eight years, Brooks was an active board member and vice president-education of Time for Lyme, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to education and research regarding Lyme and other tick-borne diseases. She was instrumental in creating and disseminating educational materials regarding tick-borne diseases, both for local and national use. She was especially proud of her work with the local chapter of the American Red Cross to create a tick removal kit, which is now distributed nationally, and her personal guidance of many individuals afflicted with Lyme.
Brooks is survived by her two sons, Brody and Brandon, and her husband, Torrey, of Old Greenwich; her mother, Ernestine Faxon of Palo Alto; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Robin and James Yurash and Teri and Matt Peters of California; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and her beloved Dachshund, Bailey. She was predeceased by her father, Bill Faxon.

Vera Sheehan McGuinn
Vera Sheehan McGuinn, 83, of Southport Woods, the mother of a Greenwich resident, died peacefully in her sleep on Oct. 20.
She was the only child of the late Walter and Vera Sheehan and grew up in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, N.Y. She was a member of the first graduating class of Fontbonne Academy and later attended Notre Dame College in New York before earning a degree from the New York Fashion Institute in New York City.
McGuinn worked as a sales representative for McCann & Campbell and for Anne Fogarty, a designer in New York, and was a home furnishings manager for B. Altman & Co. in White Plains, N.Y., for more than 20 years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Edwin J. McGuinn, and son, Francis N. McGuinn, who perished in the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.
McGuinn is survived by her eldest son, Edwin J. McGuinn and his wife, Donna, of Greenwich, and two daughters, Tracy McGuinn Donovan and her husband, Kyle, and Trish McGuinn Lawrence and her husband, George, all of Westport. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michael, Cristin and Meghan McGuinn of Greenwich; Kyle, Maggie, Chris and Brooke Donovan of Westport; George, Harry, Jackie and Teddy Lawrence of Westport; and Danielle, Elizabeth and Caroline of Rye, N.Y.
Dorothy Miller Ostrom
Dorothy Dodie Miller Ostrom, an accomplished equestrian, golfer and sailor, died peacefully at her Greenwich home Oct. 17 following a 20-year struggle with Alzheimer s.
Born in New York City on Feb. 11, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Drs. John and Katherine Miller. She graduated from Ethel Walker School and Sarah Lawrence College.
An accomplished athlete, Ostrom won many blue ribbons as an equestrian competing in the New York Horse Show at Madison Square Garden. She enjoyed foxhunting and rode with the Greenwich Foxhounds.
Ostrom competed successfully with the Westchester Fairfield Women s Golf Association. As a member of Round Hill Club, she won the Women s Club Championship and was runner-up several times. She also had a passion for sailing and won many races with her late husband, Stuart Roesler, aboard his boat Amber.
A lover of gardening and flower arranging, she served two terms as president of the Greenwich Garden Club, in 1980 and 81. In 1950, she was president of the Round Hill Community Guild.
Her father, Dr. John Miller, served as chief of staff at Greenwich Hospital until his death in 1950. Her mother was the first woman doctor to graduate from the Cornell Medical School.
Ostrom was predeceased by her son, John T. Davol, and her first husband, Dr. Rector T. Davol of Greenwich. She was also predeceased by her late husbands, M. Stuart Roesler and Vincent F. Ostrom.
She is survived by her daughter, Gaynor D. Casner of Concord, Mass., and her son, Ward M. Davol of Greenwich. She also has 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Oct. 23 at Round Hill Community Church, with a private burial preceding the service. Arrangements were handled by the Fred D. Knapp & Son Funeral Home.

Lucy C. Saba
Lucy C. Saba, 84, a longtime Greenwich resident, died on Oct. 20. She and the late Joseph Spike Saba Sr. were married 53 years.
Saba was born Lucy Carmella Gatto in Stamford on Dec. 14, 1921. She attended Stamford Public Schools prior to her marriage to Saba. They moved to the Chickahominy section of Greenwich where they raised their children and later lived in Riverside.
She was a member of St. Roch s Parish where she often volunteered in her early years to maintain and outfit the church s altar area.
Survivors include her two daughters, Donna Santora and her husband, Lawrence, of Fairfield and Kathleen McGouldrick and her husband, John, of Hamilton, Mont.; grandchildren Joseph J. Saba III, Jaclyn (William) DuPree of Bridgeport, Amy Cerenzi of Stratford and Stacy (John) Farago of North Haven, and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Ann Delfino, of Stamford.
The family expresses its deepest gratitude to the management and staff of the Greenwich Woods Healthcare facility for their unwavering support, personal quality care and guidance. The family also extends its thanks to the professional staff of Connecticut VNA, Home Healthcare and Hospice by Masonicare for their compassionate care.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Oct. 23 at St. Roch s Church and burial followed at St. Mary s Cemetery in Greenwich. The Castiglione Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

SERAFINA (NELLA) BELLANTONI
Serafina (Nella) Bellantoni, 60, a Greenwich resident, died on May 5, 2008.
She was born on April 16, 1948 in Giovinazzo, Italy, to the late Francesco and Rosa (Sette) Palermo. She immigrated to the United States at the age of 21.
Bellantoni worked for Citicorp for 18 years as a supervisor and also was employed at Bloomingdales as a sales manager. She enjoyed designing clothes of her own and for others.
She is survived by her husband, Antonio Bellantoni of Greenwich; a sister, Giovanna Messina (Angelo) of Queens, N.Y.; a brother-in-law, Gaetano Bellantoni of New Rochelle, N.Y., and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated today at 10 a.m. at St. Roch R.C. Church, with interment to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Greenwich. The Castiglione Funeral Home, 134 Hamilton Ave., Greenwich, is in charge of arrangements.

DOROTHY BECKER BENNETT
Dorothy Becker Bennett, 82, of Greenwich, co-founder of Caldor, Inc., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on May 2, 2008 after a long and courageous battle with Lewy Body Disease.
The daughter of Max Becker and Esther Genin Becker, she was born in Norwalk and grew up in Forest Hills, N.Y. Her first job was at The Rusk Institute of Rehabilitative Medicine where she worked with patients being fit for prosthetics. This began a lifelong dedication to health-related causes and helping others.
She and Carl Bennett were married on June 24, 1951 and settled in Stamford. Shortly thereafter, they founded Caldor, Inc. in Port Chester, N.Y. The name, Caldor, came from combining their first names, and this true "partnership" was a signature characteristic of the couple. Mrs. Bennett worked alongside her husband for many years. Together they built the chain up to 100 stores until they finally sold it to Associated Dry Goods in 1981. In 1984, the couple moved to Greenwich.
Bennett was passionate about community service and delighted in helping others in need. She served on the board of directors for the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford and board of trustees at Fairfield University, and was active in a number of organizations, including Congregation Agudath Sholom and the Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center in Stamford, where she founded the Neat Place to Eat Restaurant.
Along with her husband, her support extended to organizations including Yeshiva University, the Jewish Home for the Elderly in Fairfield and both Stamford and Greenwich hospitals, each of which has facilities named in their honor. They also created the Carl & Dorothy Bennett Chair in Judaic Studies at Fairfield University.
Besides philanthropy, Bennett enjoyed birds, flowers, travel and all kinds of exercise including tennis, volleyball, golf and yoga. In addition to her husband of 57 years, Bennett is survived by two sons, Marc (Katy Meyers) of Stamford and Bruce (Jennifer) of Rochester, N.Y.; her daughter, Robin (Joseph) Kanarek of Greenwich; five grandchildren, Lauren and Zoe Bennett, Naomi and Gabriel Bennett, and Sarah Kanarek; and one sister, Florence Caplan of Williams Island, Fla. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Sylvia Weinstein of Bayside, N.Y., and her grandson, David Bennett Kanarek.
The family is grateful to Dr. Alfred Wolfsohn of Stamford, Dr. Franklin Loria of Greenwich and Antonett Kerr, R.N., of New Rochelle, N.Y., for their dedication, compassionate care and never-ending concern.
The funeral service was held May 4 at Congregation Agudath Sholom in Stamford, with burial following at Temple Sholom Cemetery in Greenwich.

MARY FUCHELLA
Mary Fuchella, 97, a lifelong resident of Byram, died on May 3, 2008.
Born Oct. 3, 1910 in Byram to the late Paul Sr., and Anna Frano Fuchella, she attended New Lebanon Elementary School and Greenwich High School, which was located on Mason Street, until one day the students were told to pick up their belongings and books and walk to the "new" high school - which is now the Town Hall.
During high school she worked for Lifesavers Corp. in Port Chester, N.Y., before starting a 30-plus-year career with Pitney Bowes in 1942. At that time, her brothers, Joseph and Andrew, left for Navy training in the Great Lakes.
Fuchella was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Byram.
She spent much of her life taking care of her parents, brothers and extended family.
She is survived by her brother, John , with whom she lived and cared for; her nephew, Andrew Roy Fuchella (Carol), and nieces Joanne Fuss (Joseph), Lynn Fuchella, Nancy Descano, Barbara Stevens (Paul) and Janice Carroll (James), as well as many great-nieces and -nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dear friend, Katherine Broska.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Joseph, Paul and Andrew.
A religious service was held May 7 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Byram. Interment followed at Greenwood Union Cemetery, Rye, N.Y. Arrangements were handled by the Castiglione Funeral Home in Greenwich.
VERNA MARION KEOGH
Verna Marion Keogh, 90, a 53-year resident of Greenwich, died at home on April 27, 2008.
She was born on March 1, 1918 to Olaf Pedersen, a symphony musician who once played under Grieg, and Anine Hansen, a music teacher, who had emigrated from Norway and Denmark in the 1880s.
Keogh was passionate about music, art, animals and the water. As a member of The Belle Haven Club for 52 years, she chaired many committees, but perhaps the most meaningful to her was the Members' Art Show, which she hung annually until just two years ago.
For many years in the 1950s and '60s, she was chair of the Junior Sailing Committee and actively participated in the ladies sailing program. She was a member and supporter of the Greenwich Art Society for many years.
When her late husband, James Keogh, was the director of the United States Information Agency in the 1970s, she accompanied him on trips to nearly all of the agency locations around the world and devoted special attention to assuring staff members at all levels of the importance of what they were doing in communicating the strengths and values of the United States to people throughout the world. Her soul mate, James, predeceased her in May 2006.
She is survived by her son, Kevin Keogh of Greenwich; her daughter, Kathy Reed of Bryn Mawr, Pa., and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 11 at 11 a.m. at Christ Church, Greenwich. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in her memory to Christ Church Greenwich, 254 E. Putnam Ave., Greenwich, CT 06830.
VERA K. KROCHTA
Vera K. Krochta, 84, of Ridgefield and formerly of Riverside, died May 3, 2008 at Danbury Hospital. She was the widow of the late Walter Krochta.
Born in Poland on Oct. 4, 1923, she came to the United States as a child, first settling in New York and attending New York schools before moving to Riverside.
She resided in Ridgefield the past three years and was a member of St. Mary's Church in Ridgefield.
She is survived by two sons, Peter Krochta and his wife, Mary, of Longwood, Fla., and Victor Krochta of Newtown; a daughter, Helene Calvin of Stamford; six grandchildren, Caroline Greenwald, Christine Richolson, Lisa Bushe, David Calvin, Vicki Silverio and Michael Krochta; two great-granddaughters, Lydia Marie and Lexi Marie; a brother and sister in Europe and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services and burial took place May 5 in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ridgefield. Kane Funeral Home in Ridgefield handled the arrangements.

PATRICK J. MC TEIGUE
Patrick J. McTeigue, 84, a World War II veteran and a lifelong Greenwich resident, died May 5, 2008 at the Connecticut Health Center of Greenwich.
Born in Greenwich on Sept. 19, 1923, he was the son of the late Philip and Ellen McGovern McTeigue. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
He was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal service for many years.
McTeigue is survived his wife, Eleanor Cypher McTeigue of Greenwich; his sons, Michael McTeigue and his wife, Jane, and Timothy McTeigue, all of Greenwich; a daughter, Susan McTeigue of Stamford; a sister, Irene Sluzarz of Greenwich; and three grandchildren, Jessica, Courtney and Kayla. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Ellen Wymms.
Services were held Thursday in the Fred D. Knapp & Son Funeral Home in Greenwich. Interment followed in St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
TANIMICHI SUGITA
Tanimichi Sugita, 75, a world-class musician and Greenwich resident, passed away April 27, 2008 at Greenwich Hospital. Tanimichi, whose very name Tani (Spirit of the Valley of Lao-tzu) and Michi (Logos) implies a meeting of East and West, devoted his life to realizing the principle of "One World" through the universality of music.
"Music exists only in performance. It is the soul's medium for divine communication. Music is my daily act of faith in the beautiful, the mystic, and the spiritual," he said. "My motto is 'cor ad cor loquitur,' heart speaks to heart."
Born in Toyohashi, Japan, Sugita graduated from Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo and received B.S. and M.S. degrees cum laude from Juilliard School.
After successful New York and London debuts, he gave countless recitals, benefit concerts, master-classes and lecture recitals throughout the U.S. and Japan as well as in Europe and Asia.
Acclaimed for his "expressively beautiful and elegant tone, inimitable pianissimo, exquisite sensitivity and finesse," he was renowned as one of the foremost interpreters of Beethoven and the Romantics.
He taught at Juilliard, Rutgers University, University of Colorado, as pianist-in-residence at Mississippi University for women and Edinburgh University. He was professor at Elisabeth University of Music in Hiroshima as well as lecturer at Sophia University in Tokyo, Nanzan University in Nagoya and the Cultural Envoy for Japan Foundation.
The father-and-son duo recitals with his son, Ken, violinist at Lille National Symphony Orchestra of France, were popular among music lovers. He and his artist-potter wife, Rei, settled in Greenwich in 1998.
He became gravely ill shortly after a benefit concert for St. Catherine of Siena Church at Greenwich Academy in fall of 1999, but made a miraculous recovery and proceeded to make several concert tours in Japan and was featured at First Presbyterian Church of Greenwich's "Music from the Top" on March 30, 2005.
He is survived by his wife, Rei, sons Ken and Jo, his daughter, Lili Foster, and five grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated May 3 at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Riverside. The Castiglione Funeral Home in Greenwich was entrusted with the arrangements.
JAYNE S. UNDERWOOD
Jayne S. Underwood, 80, who had a long, successful career as a Realtor in the Town of Greenwich, passed away peacefully at her home May 5, 2008 under hospice care. The cause of her death was acute Leukemia with complications.
Born in Benson, Vt., on Nov. 23, 1927, she was the daughter of Sherman L. and Lou Moore Stahl, and grew up in Chatham, N.Y. After graduating from Chatham High School, she became secretary to the manager of Travelers Insurance Co. in Albany, N.Y.
Underwood joined the Greenwich Real Estate Board in 1967, becoming a Realtor associate with Thomas M. Cooke, Inc., and later upon the merger with William Raveis, Real Estate, where she had membership to the Raveis Advisory Council. She held GRI and CRS credentials, and also held credentials as a Certified Residential Appraiser.
A resident of Greenwich since 1960, Underwood was a member of the Second Congregational Church, serving as a Stephens Minister; was a longtime member of The Woman's Club of Greenwich, and active on the board as publicity director; and was a part-time driver for Meals on Wheels.
She was a longtime member of the Moorings Club in Vero Beach, Fla., and enjoyed The Adirondacks, bridge, golf, travel and the New York Yankees. Her greatest interest was Tod's Point and a quiet love of Greenwich.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert J. Underwood of Greenwich; a daughter, Nancy J. Underwood of Greenwich; a son, Robert J. Underwood Jr. of Williamsburg, Va., and his wife, Pamela M. Underwood, and their two children, Joseph M. and Victoria L.
A memorial service will be held at the Second Congregational Church in Greenwich today at 3 p.m. Internment will be private. Arrangements have been made by Leo P. Gallagher & Son.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Second Congregational Church.
Louis A. Andrighetti
Louis A. Andrighetti, 65, the son of the late Elia and Angelina Andrighetti, died on April 5, 2009 in Greenwich Hospital.
A lifelong Greenwich resident, he was recently employed by Greenwich Taxi and attended Greenwich Public Schools. He worked for many years in the construction industry in New York City and Fairfield County. He loved motorcycles and was an avid fisherman, spending many leisurely hours at Grass Island Boating Club and Harbor.
Andrighetti is survived by a son, Louis A. Andrighetti of Port Chester, N.Y.; a daughter, Ann Marie Deitz and her husband, Edwin, of Cornwall, N.Y., stepchildren Sal Fronio of Stamford and Tammy Frecia of Greenwich; two brothers, Enrico Andrighetti of Bridgeport and Robert Andrighetti of Stamford; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Christopher Andrighetti, three sisters and two brothers.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering on Monday, April 13 from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Greenwich Boat and Yacht Club. Burial will be private.
Contributions may be made in Andrighetti's memory to the American Heart Association or the Greenwich Boys & Girls Club. Arrangements are made by County Cremation Service of Fairfield.
Elizabeth Donella
Elizabeth "Betty" Donella, 94, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2009 at the Village Crest in New Milford.
Donella was born on Dec. 9, 1914 to William and Jo Hanna Casey Clark in New York City. She lived many years in Old Greenwich and Greenwich and was active in several groups at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Riverside. She later moved to Jensen Beach, Fla.
Donella is survived by her three children: Barbara and her husband, James, Seery; Elizabeth and her husband, Michael Borchetta; and Guy Donella. She is also survived by her sisters, Margaret Vaughn and Rita Rocco, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Gerald Donella Jr.; three sisters, Mary Clark, Nancy Pepe and Helen Gompert, and her brother, William Clark.
A memorial service will be held at St. Catherine of Siena Church on May 9 at 10 a.m.
