The beloved husband of Martha K. (Chwaliszewski) Carroll of Fairfield, Tom died suddenly in Florida. He was a graduate of UMASS Boston. He was a resident of Fairfield for the past twenty-two years after relocating from the Saugus/Revere area. Prior to his retirement, Tom was the Regional V.P. for Verizon Enterprises in New York City for twenty-seven years. He was a member of the H. Smith Richardson Men's Club, the Gaelic American Club and Holy Cross Church. Tom was dedicated to his family: he was a great husband and a wonderful father. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Amanda M. Carroll & her husband, Jeffrey Root of Fairfield; his son, Ryan T. Carroll of Fairfield; his mother, Rose M. (DiModica) Carroll of FL; his brother, Jack Prince and his wife, Kathy & their children and grandchildren of FL & NJ; his in-laws, John & Harriett Chwaliszewski of Saugus, MA; two brother-in-laws, Paul Chwaliszewski and his wife, Patty of Hanover,, MA and John Chwaliszewski of Saugus, MA; four sister-in-laws and their husbands, Mary Chwaliszewski & Steve Brady and Loretta Chwaliszewski & Frank Fallon, all of Revere, MA, Rita & Peter Dignan of Sutton, MA and Helen Chwaliszewski of Saugus, MA; many nieces & nephews and many close, perosonal friends. Helene E (Wilkins) Anderson, age 77, of Stamford, the beloved wife of Dudley V. Anderson, died Wednesday, April 19, 2004 in St. Vincent's Medical Center. born in Portland, ME, she was a graduate of Portland High School and the Portland Art School. She started her career working as a graphic artist and then became a homemaker. She studied photography for many years at the YMCA in Greenwich, CT and was a member of St. Joseph of Arimathea Episcopal Church in White Plains, NY. In addition to her husband she is survived by her two loving sons, Roger Anderson and his wife Cathy of Fairfield and Eric Anderson of Berwick, ME and her five grandchildren, Evan & Karin of ME and Shannon, Tara & Heather of Fairfield. Mrs. Anderson was predeceased by her two brothers, Louis & Leonard Wilkins. The loving husband of Jacqueline (Gagner) Carbone for over 65 years, Mr. Carbone died suddenly in Princeton, NJ. born to the late Frank and Anna Carbone, he was a resident for many years of Easton prior to moving to Fairfield in 1987. Mr. Carbone founded in 1947 the Fairfield Scrap Iron & Metal Co. where he was the owner until his retirement in 1992. Prior to establishing his company, he worked in the waste paper business with his father at Frank Carbone & Son, a company that was established in 1905. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge in Bpt., a member of the former Subalpino Italian Community Club, a member of the Institute of Scrap Iron & Steel Assn. and a stong supporter of the Italian Community Center. He was a man who loved life and was a wonderful husband and devoted father to his children. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his five sons, Frank J. of Southbury, James P. of Bpt., Richard M. of East Setaucket, NY, Dino M. of Stratford & Christopher D. of Fairfield; one daughter, Bonita (Boni) Lucas of Fairfield; his brother, Peter Carbone of Westport; his sister, Jenny Maturo of Huntington; 15 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his three brothers, Anthony, Joseph and John; his two sisters, Josephine Carbone & Florence Purciello and his granddaughter, Jacqueline Lee Lucas.
William E. Barnes

William E. Barnes age 80, the beloved husband of Anamarie McAvoy Barnes for over 57 years died on Sunday, June 6, 2004 with his family by his side at St. Vincent's Medical Center. born in Stratford to the late Perry & Grace Barnes, he was a longtime Fairfield resident. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served in WW II and the Korean Conflict from 1941-1947. Prior to his retirement he was employed with the United Illuminating Company as an Overhead Line Supervisor. He was also a Special Police Office with the Fairfield Police Department. Mr.Barnes was also a member of the VFW Post #9460 in Stratford. In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Thomas W. Barnes and his wife, Martha of New Mexico & Thomas F. Barnes and his wife, Mary Lee of Shelton; one daughter, Christine Ambrose of Monroe; 8 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Bill was predeceased by his brother, Henry and sister, Aida. Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Thursday, June 10, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Church with a Mass of Christian Burial. The beloved widower of Anne C. Conrad, Mr. Conrad was a graduate of Lynn Public High School, Northeastern University and obtained his Master's Degree in Finance. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Air Force as a bombardier where he earned the rank of First Lieutenant. Over the years, he continued to be active in the 586th Bomb Squadron Group. He was employed as a Financial Manager at Handy & Harmon for many years and prior to his retirement, he was a Finance Executive with Holgrath Corporation in Chesire for ten years. He is survived by his two sons, Robert E. Conrad, Jr. & his fiance, Shauna Murphy and Gary Conrad & his wife, Debra, all of Fairfield; four grandhildren, Dana, Mathew, Sean and Ryan Conrad; one brother, George Conrad and his wife, Maureen of Peabody, MA & his sister, Gloria Craigin and her husband, Robert of Spokane, WA.
Madelyn B. Wagner

Madelyn B. Wagner, a homemaker, died on Thursday, October 13, 2005 at the Carolton Chronic and Convalescent Hospital.. She was 100 years old. Mrs. Wagner was born on April 19, 1905 in Lakeville, Minnesota, the daughter of John and Margaret Higgins Myers. She grew up on the family farm and attended business school in Minneapolis. At the time of her death, she was the sole surviving member of the Lakeville High School Class of 1924. On October 25, 1933, she married Louis J. Wagner. They lived in Minneapolis and Detroit Lakes, Minnesota before moving to Rochester, Minnesota where she was the co-owner of two hardware stores. She lived in Rochester for more than forty years before moving to Westport to be with her daughter. She enjoyed sewing, fine needlework, making hats, hooking rugs and ceramics. She was also an active member of St. Pius X Church in Rochester. She lived a long and fulfilling life as a devoted wife, a loving mother, a caring sister and friends and a person of deep faith. She is survived by two daughter; Mary (Dominick) Attanasio of Westport and Susan (Charles) DaMart of Camarillo, CA and two grandsons. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, a brother and sister. Her family would like to acknowledge the staff of The Carolton Chronic and Convalescent Hospital for the care, support and kindness given to her during her illness. A Mass of Christian Burial and interment will take place in Lakeville, Minnesota.

Margaret Ellen “Nini”, McCabe, age 53, died August 24, 2005 in Fairfield, Connecticut after a long illness. She was born October 29, 1951, Cuernavaca, Mexico to Charles Raymond McCabe, a former columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle, and Margaret Ellen “Peg” Scripps Buzzelli. Nina was a great-granddaughter and heiress of Edward Willis Scripps, founder of the Scripps newspapers and United Press International. Educated at Cobham Hall, Kent, England, Simon’s Rock, Great Barrington, MA, and a graduate of Bennington College in Bennington, Vermont, she was a recipient of The Mark Van Doren Prize for Poetry. She first worked for publisher, Al Goldstein in New York, for Grabhorn-Hoyem Press in San Francisco, and afterwards as a freelance writer. A 30 year denizen of North Beach, Nini was an integral part of the tapestry of San Francisco, well known at her father’s favorite watering hole, Gino and Carlos, and beloved to many San Franciscans. She was predeceased in death by her parents. Survived by her brother, Peter (Debbie) of Portland, OR, Charles (Gail) of San Francisco, CA and Bob Buzzelli of Sarasota, FL, and sisters, Mary (David) Peirce and Liz (Sam) Logan of Sarasota, FL. Also survived by 4 nieces and 3 nephews, many dear friends in San Francisco, CA and Connecticut and her faithful companion and guardian, Olive. A celebration of Nini’s life will be held at Gino & Carlo’s, 548 Green Street in San Francisco, CA on October 29th at 5:00 pm. All friends and relatives are welcome. Marie Louise Valites, age 86, of Southport, the loving wife of Walter E. Valites, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 20, 2005 in Lord Chamberlain in Stratford with her family by her side. born in Hazelton, PA, Mrs. Valites was a lifelong Southport resident. Prior to her retirement, she was a seamstress with the Sarazin Corporation in Southport. Mrs. Valites was a member of the choir at St. Luke’s Church, St. Thomas Church and St. John of Vianny Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her loving and devoted family: a daughter, Marilyn V. Robinson and her husband, Donald of Waterbury; two sons, Walter J. Valites and his wife, Pamela R. of Stratford and Henry E. Valites and his wife, Mary Ann of Bridgeport; five grandchildren, Marie Louise Leso and her husband, Kenneth of Telford, PA, Matthew Valites of Waltham , MA, Caroline Valites & Corrie Grant of Stratford and Nicole Persson of Shelton; and, her brother, Henry Mauser of Carney’s Point, NJ. She was predeceased by three brothers and one sister. Mary L. Barron
Mary Louise (Dart) Barron of Danbury, died Saturday, March 3, at her home in Danbury. She was 53.
Ms. Barron was born in Queens, N.Y., on Jan. 12, 1954, daughter of Henry P. Dart Jr. of Stratford and Evelyn (Mathiez) Johnston of Bethel. She was a graduate of Southern Connecticut State University with a degree in special education. She was employed by Fairfield Hills Hospital before becoming a consultant at Cendant Mobility for 20 years.
Besides her parents, she is survived by a sister, Nora Swift of Bethel; two brothers, James Dart of Weston and Thomas Dart of Danbury; two godchildren, Christopher Swift and Mikayla Doyle; and two nieces, Caroline and Jacqueline Dart.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association; Stem Cell Research; 21 Allendale Drive, North Haven, CT 06473.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, Bethel, on Friday, March 9, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bethel.

Merrie Hevrdejs Clarke
Merrie Hevrdejs Clarke died on Saturday, May 5, at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford after a courageous battle against breast cancer. She was 48.
Mrs. Clarke remains in the hearts of her husband, Richard H. Clarke, of Westport; her brother, Frank J. Hevrdejs, of Houston and Pebble Beach, Calif.; and her sister, Patricia M. Hevrdejs, of Portland, Ore.
Mrs. Clarke was an accomplished designer with numerous high-profile projects to her credit -- but her greatest source of pride was her two sons, Julian Patrick Clarke, age 12, and Sean McLean Clarke, age 10, also of Westport. She devoted countless hours to supporting them in their educational and athletic endeavors, learning to love the game of baseball, especially. She will remain, forever and always, their "angel in the outfield."
Mrs. Clarke earned a degree in architecture from Washington University in St. Louis and worked as a senior designer at KPF Interior Architects in New York City on projects including the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and the ABC building on Columbus Avenue in Manhattan. She also worked for the Washington, D.C., San Francisco, and New York City offices of Studios Architecture, most recently as an associate principal.
While living in northern California, she established her own firm, M Interiors, as well as the Clarke Powell Design Studio, and was an instructor of design at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco.
Mrs. Clarke also brought her high professional standards and unstinting energy to philanthropic and volunteer work, including as a member of the boards of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company and the Headlands Center for the Arts in Sausalito, Calif., as well as to projects for the St. John's Episcopal Church Building Committee in Ross, Calif.
Mrs. Clarke's parents, Beatrice and Frank Hevrdejs, and sister, Jill, predeceased her. She will be remembered with a great and eternal love by both family members and the enormous group of people lucky enough to have called her a friend.
A memorial service for Mrs. Clarke will be held on May 18 at 1 p.m. at St. Bartholomew's Church in New York City.

Alexander B. Watts
Alexander B. Watts of Vermontville, N.Y., died Saturday, April 28, at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital Medical Center in Plattsburgh, N.Y., following an automobile accident. He was 31.
Mr. Watts was the husband of Rebecca Watts and the son of Alexander and Eleanor (Humphreys) Watts of Bass Harbor, Maine, and Redding.
He was born Sept. 8, 1975, in Philadelphia, Pa., and attended schools in Westport and Southport during the years his parents lived in Westport. He graduated from the Forman School in Litchfield.
Mr. Watts was a resident of the Saranac Lake area for the past 12 years. He originally came to attend Paul Smiths College. He worked as a self-employed contractor, and before that, he was employed as a carpenter for various area contractors.
According to the Plattsburgh Press-Republican, Mr. Watts was on his way to a bee-keeping seminar as a way of helping him prepare for the arrival of his three honey-bee hives at his Vermontville farm when the automobile accident occurred.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowboarding and working on the organic farm that he and his wife were establishing. One of his favorite things to do was spend time with his family and friends, especially with his sons, Alexander P. and Clayton L., who are 3 and 2 respectively.
Besides his wife, two sons and parents, Mr. Watts is survived by one sister, Frances E. Watts of Westport, and two nieces, Natalie and Emma Rogers.
A funeral service was held on May 3 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Saranac Lake, N.Y., with the Rev. Bill Small officiating. Burial took place on May 7 in Litchfield.

A memorial service for Walter Boughton Pitkin, of Weston, who died June 27, 2007 at age 93 in Norwalk Hospital, will take place Sunday, July 22, at 1 p.m. in the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 285 Lyons Plains Road, Weston.
Spencer Garni
Spencer George Matthew Garni died Sept. 28 in Westport.
Spencer was born in Norwalk, on May 25, son of Douglas and Karen (Chappa) Garni of Fairfield. In addition to his parents, Spencer is also survived by his grandparents, George Chappa and Joseph and Lin Garni. Friends are invited to attend a graveside service, on Friday, Oct. 5, at 11 a.m. in Assumption Cemetery, Greens Farms Road, Westport.

Lester W. Lockwood Sr.
Lester W. Lockwood Sr., husband of the late Ida Veno Lockwood, died Monday, Oct. 1, at Norwalk Hospital. He was 85.
Mr. Lockwood was born in Norwalk on July 27, 1922, to the late Frank and Theresa Lockwood. He was a lifelong resident of Norwalk and worked for Perkin/ Elmer for many years. After his retirement he enjoyed taking long walks on Calf Pasture beach in Norwalk.
Survivors include two sons, Lester W. Lockwood Jr. of Bennington, Vt., and Steven J. Lockwood and his wife, Nancy, of Fort Worth, Texas; one daughter, Theresa Belair and her husband Shawn of Norwalk; one sister, Helen Nemeth, of Norwalk; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Ida, Mr. Lockwood was predeceased by one brother, Frank Lockwood of Troy, N.Y., and one sister, Evelyn Sacrider of Norwalk.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at 11 a.m. in Assumption Church, 98 Riverside Ave. in Westport. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery on Green's Farms Road in Westport. The family will receive friends in the Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road E., Westport, one hour prior to the funeral mass.
William Tailyour
William Patrick Hercules Tailyour, a lovely man and a much-beloved Scot, died in Oxford on Sept. 27. A service to celebrate his life will be held at 1 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 5, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Oxford. There will be visitation with the family in the Parish Hall from noon until the service.
A member of an old and distinguished family that traces its lineage back to the Norman French at the time of The Conquest, Mr. Tailyour was born July 12, 1936, in Glasgow, Scotland. His father, Kenneth, was, like many Tailyour men since the 1850s, a career military officer who attained the rank of Brigadier General in the British Army. Mr. Tailyour's mother, Denise, was of Welsh-Irish parentage and grew up in what was then Swaziland in Southern Africa. At the time of her marriage, she was a successful actress on the London stage.
Mr. Tailyour's father was stationed in Singapore at the outbreak of war in the Pacific, and he and his family were on one of the last passenger ships to escape the city before its surrender to the Japanese. He could recall that long and hazardous voyage back to Britain, and he could describe vividly his memories of wartime Britain, during which he lived near an airbase and watched planes coming and going saw dogfights overhead, and experienced the almost nightly terror generated by German buzz bombs. He was also introduced to ice cream by American servicemen at that time.
Mr. Tailyour was a product of the English "public" school system, where he was widely known and admired for his prowess in sports, particularly rugby, soccer, tennis, squash and cricket. After graduation from Felsted, he served as an officer in the Royal Artillery in Germany, and then later on as a captain in the Royal Marines Reserves. Deciding against the military life of his father and many of his forebears, Mr. Tailyour instead pursued a career in business that took him all over the world. From Kuching in Borneo, to Malaya to Singapore to Russia to Edinburgh and then to Japan, with posts in London along the way, Mr. Tailyour developed a successful career in the pulp and paper business. But more important to him, he developed a worldwide network of friends with whom he was to stay in close contact for the rest of his life.
Mr. Tailyour's career ultimately brought him to the United States, which he loved and admired, and where he worked until his retirement in 2000. He and his wife Amanda, a Lexington, Miss., native whom he had met in Tokyo, raised three children in Westport, while he pursued his career in New York City. Later, he started his own company, Dubton House Inc. -- named for his ancestral home in Montrose, Scotland -- which he and Amanda ran as a successful pulp and paper brokerage firm until his retirement.
Mr. Tailyour was an avid sailor who participated in a number of ocean races, including the Newport to Bermuda race. An accomplished gardener and tennis player, he loved people, and he valued friendships above all else. Mr. Tailyour was a voracious reader and a lover of language, both written and spoken, and he combined all of those loves, and his gift for writing, into a lifetime of correspondence and communication that enabled him to sustain an astonishing number of friendships with a diverse assortment of people from all over the world and from every strata of life for more than 50 years.
In Oxford, where he and Amanda moved in 2004, Mr. Tailyour will be remembered for his tireless work in connection with Katrina relief on behalf of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, where he headed that effort. He also worked with The Salvation Army, the Humane Society, and as a canvasser for The United Way. Mr. Tailyour loved children, gardening, dogs, the soil, good whiskey, bad jokes, pretty girls, sunsets and sports of all kinds, types and nationalities. But most of all, it was his deep affection for other humans and his willingness to give tirelessly and unselfishly of himself that defined his life, a life filled with love and charity, a life well lived to the fullest.
If a man's wealth is measured in the love and affection that his friends hold for him, or in the number of friends who hold it, or in the wonderful memories that those who knew him will carry with them for the rest of their lives, then Mr. Tailyour died one of the wealthiest men on earth.
He is survived by his wife, Amanda Povall Tailyour of Oxford; a son, Ian, of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; a daughter, Lillian, of Charleston, S. C.; a sister, Morag (Mrs. Fred) Barnes of Minehead, England; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws who loved him dearly. He was predeceased in 2000 by a beloved son, Alexander.
