ANNA McELWEE
Anna Ference McElwee, wife of the late Edward McElwee, died Tuesday, May 16, in her Westport residence. She was 96.
Born in Fairfield, she was a lifelong resident of Westport. Mrs. McElwee was employed by Pepperidge Farm until her retirement. She was a longtime member of St. Luke's Parish. In her spare time, she especially enjoyed gardening, crocheting and baking.
Mrs. McElwee is survived by two sons, Lawrence McElwee and his wife Sandy of Westport, and Edward McElwee and his wife Linda of Florida; a brother, John Ference of Florida; three sisters, Margaret Mathew of Florida, Helen Readey of Stratford and Pauline Hoyt of Essex; four grandchildren, Carol Crawford, Larry McElwee, Laura Clavijo and Jennifer Dela Rosa; five great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers and two sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Luke Church in Westport, with interment in Willowbrook Cemetery in Westport. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mrs. McElwee's memory to St. Luke Church, 84 Long Lots Road, Westport CT 06880. Arrangements were handled by the Fairfield Funeral Home of Edmund W. Dougiello, 36 South Pine Creek Road.
SERGIO SIMONETTI
Sergio Simonetti, husband of Mildred Bonamie Simonetti, died Wednesday, May 31, at Connecticut Hospice, Branford. He was 76.
Mr. Simonetti was born in Genoa, Italy, son of the late Angelo and Caterina Simonetti and was a resident of Westport for the past 35 years.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Simonetti was employed as vice president of engineering at Melnor Industries in Moonachie, N.J. He held a bachelor of science degree in engineering, graduated from the Naval Academy of Livorno, Italy, and served with the Italian merchant marine. Mr. Simonetti was a former member of Shorehaven Country Club where he was an avid tennis player.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one daughter, Cara Malicki of Rocky Hill, two sons, David Simonetti of Westport, and Mark Simonetti of Stratford, two grandchildren, Brad Malicki Jr. and Brian Malicki; one sister and one nephew, both in Italy.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, June 3, at 9 a.m. at Saint Luke Church (directly), 84 Long Lots Road, Westport. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery, Green's Farms. There will be no calling hours. The Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Rd. E., Westport is in charge of arrangements.

JOHN WALTERS
John Walters of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Branford, died on Memorial Day, May 29, at The Springs in Sarasota. He was 93.
Born in 1912 in Rye, New York, he was the son of the late Alexander Walters and Gerda Goranson Walters.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Irene Walters of Sarasota, and two daughters, Sandra Walters DeFeo and her husband Neil DeFeo of Westport, and Linda Walters Whittet and her husband Robert Whittet of Richmond, Va. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Julia, Lauren and Elizabeth DeFeo, and John and Emily Whittet.
Mr. Walters served in the Army Corps of Engineers during WWII before returning home to start a business in home remodeling. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed camping, tennis and golf. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge 1939 of Branford, and Loyal Order of the Moose 608 of Sarasota, Fla.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 3, at 11 a.m. at Wiegand Brothers Funeral Home, 7454 S. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota, Fla.

George Peterson
George Otto Peterson of Jacksonville, N.C., died July 15 at Onslow Memorial Hospital. He was 81.
Born in Westport, he was the son of the late Otto and Aimee Peterson.
He was married to Hanora Teresa Fitzgibbons of County Cork, Ireland, in 1952. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Bunker Hill.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Susan Peterson of Bethlehem, Linda Reid and her husband, James, of Syracuse, N.Y., Sandra Lindley and her husband, Mark, of Burlington, N.C., and Aimee Simoneaux and her husband, Sam, of Jacksonville, N.C.; three sons, George and his wife, Aisha, of Cary, N.C., Jeffrey and his wife, Jennifer, of Cary, and Gary and his wife, Lisa, of Philadelphia, Pa.; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Greta and Harold Sutphen of Fairfield; several nieces and nephews; and a faithful friend, his dog Patrick.
He was predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Ruth and Delma; his brother, Eric of Westport; a daughter, Ruthie; and infant sons, Markie and Eric.

Mary H. Fox
Mary H. Fox died Aug. 15 in Skillman, N.J., at the age of 88, following a brief illness. born in Salinas, Kan., she grew up in Kansas City, Mo., and was a graduate of the University of Missouri at Kansas City. She was an accomplished writer and editor, a still-life painter, an avid traveler and loving wife and mother.
After graduation from college, she relocated to New York City, where she worked for Curtis Publishing, and was an editor at Esquire magazine. During World War II, she served as a civilian employee in the press relations area of the U.S. Department of the Navy. In 1948 she married Richard Manville, president of Richard Manville Research, a commercial marketing research firm in New York, and the couple moved to Westport to raise their family.
While in Westport, she was an active volunteer in the school system and participated in local municipal affairs. She also earned an MBA degree from the University of Bridgeport Business School.
After her first marriage ended in divorce, in 1975 she married Col. Kenneth L. Fox, a senior editor and writer at the Kansas City Star and Kansas City Times newspapers.
In retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Fox relocated to Scottsdale, Ariz., where the couple lived happily for 25 years, during which time she pursued freelance writing and painting.
She is survived by her three children, Philip Brook Manville, Lawrence Reed Manville and Barbara M. Spalding; and eight grandchildren.

Rodney C. Bloom
Rodney C. Bloom, of Westport, husband of the late Elizabeth Cacavelle Bloom, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Norwalk Hospital. He was 77.
Mr. Bloom was born March 13, 1929, in Norwalk, son of the late Clifford and Florence Michek Bloom and has been a lifelong resident of Westport. Prior to retiring in July 1990, Mr. Bloom was employed by the Town of Westport Public Works Department for 33 years. He was a member of the Green's Farms Volunteer Fire Department and the Joseph J. Clinton VFW Post 399; he was also an avid Saint Louis Cardinals fan. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include one sister, Jacqueline Griffith of East Haven; four brothers, Edward Bloom of Spring Hill, Fla., and Donald, Robert and Kenneth Bloom, all of Norwalk. In addition to his wife, he was also predeceased by one daughter, Deborah R. Gonzalez, and one grandson, Salvatore.
A funeral service was held Monday, Nov. 6, in the Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road E., Westport, with the Rev. John H. Branson III officiating. Interment with military honors was in Assumption Cemetery, Green's Farms.
Josephine F. Bronson
Josephine "Jay" F. Bronson, a Westport resident for 23 years, died peacefully on Nov. 1 at Yale New Haven Hospital with her children by her side. She was 77.
Mrs. Bronson was the daughter of the late Sebastian and Frances Ciaffaglione of New Britain. She was employed early in her life by Pan American World Airways, where she traveled extensively and where she met her late husband, Capt. Howard Bronson.
Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Bronson worked as an administrator at A Child's Place in Westport and was previously a secretary at Saugatuck Child Care Services. She was a Life Master at bridge and excelled at the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle. She loved the beach, playing tennis, bowling and cooking.
She is survived by her children, Michele Bronson Baudisch and her husband, Richard, of Newtown; William Bronson and his wife, Jennifer, of Milford; Colin Bronson of Fairfield; and her four grandchildren, Emily, Charlie, Jake and Mitchell Bronson.
Funeral services and interment were private. The family would like to thank the staff of Lord Chamberlain for their care over the past seven years. Shaughnessey-Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road, Fairfield was entrusted with the arrangements.
Edmond Renee Cadoux
Edmond Renee Cadoux, a long-time resident of Weston and Westport, died on Nov. 4 after a long battle with health complications. He was 80.
Mr. Cadoux was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of the late Prosper and Esther Cadoux. He was also predeceased by his brother, Alex Cadoux, and sisters, Remunda Cadoux and Elmonse Alfandre.
During World War II, Mr. Cadoux enlisted in the Army Air Force and served as a radio operator on a B-25 with the 398th squadron. He was an accomplished pianist and songwriter before he moved to Connecticut in 1959. Soon after, he found his passion in real estate. Working his way up from small homes to one of his proudest achievements, the Playhouse Square Shopping Center in Westport.
Dedicated to the Weston and Westport community, he will also be remembered by his friends and family for his love of politics, good food and French music. When not at work, Mr. Cadoux could always be found tempting all who knew him to share his interest in boating and fishing in Long Island Sound.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Audrey Cadoux; his three children, Jeffrey, Brian and Peter Cadoux; four grandchildren, Alex, Stephen, Philip and Elysse; three nephews and one niece. Mr. Cadoux was dearly loved and admired by his friends and family.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Nov. 10, at noon at the Unitarian Church in Westport, 10 Lyons Plains Road, Westport. Internment will be private. The Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Rd. Samuel Flaks
Samuel Boris Flaks of Norwalk died peacefully at St. Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport on Nov. 3. He was 82. He was the devoted and beloved life companion of Joan Blumenfeld of Westport.
A memorial service will be held today at The Jewish Home for the Elderly in Fairfield at 2:45 p.m.
D. Morton Langer
D. Morton Langer, MD, a family physician in York, Pa., for more than 50 years, died at 9:15 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 4, at home surrounded by his loving family. Dr. Langer delivered many babies in his time and intimately followed the progress of entire families as they grew, matured and at times fell ill. He was known for his homey bedside manner, his capacity for humor and warmth, and always being ready to comfort and counsel.
Dr. Langer was born Dec. 16, 1926, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Harry and Nettie (Broverman) Langer. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and attended the University of Virginia, the University of Pittsburgh, where he was a member of Phi Betta Kappa Fraternity, and New York Medical College, where he was elected into the Contin Society for the top 10 students in each class.
He was a member of the American Medical Association, Temple Beth Israel Reformed Congregation and the Outdoor Country Club where he avidly pursued golf and tennis.
Dr. Langer is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Reita J. (Kitt) Langer; a son, Larry B. Langer, and his wife, Hope (Klein) Langer, of Westport; two granddaughters, Alana and Rachael Langer of Westport; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Sandy and Alan Geller who have been friends as well as family for more than 40 years; many devoted nieces and nephews and son-in-law, Joseph J. Durney Jr. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy L. Durney.
Funeral services were scheduled for 11 a.m yesterday at Temple Beth Israel, 2090 Hollywood Drive, York, Pa., with Rabbi Irwin Goldenberg officiating. Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery, with military rites presented by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors Inc., 863 South George St., York, was in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Harry J. Pinsky
Dr. Harry J. Pinsky died Nov 4. He was predeceased by his wife, Penny (Shirley). He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Bob Wickey; sons and daughters-in-law Bruce and Tara, and Ronnie and Betsy; and his grandchildren, Emily, Sydney, George, Benjamin, Lexee, Max and Sam.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. in the Sanctuary of Temple B'rith Kodesh, 2131 Elmwood Ave., Rochester, N.Y. Interment was in White Haven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to a favorite charity in his memory.
Following the funeral, a period of mourning was observed Monday and Tuesday at 257 Pelham Road, Rochester, N.Y.; and will be held tomorrow from 7-9 p.m. at 28 Pequot Trail, Westport. Arrangements were handled by Parsky Memorial Chapel.
Billy Farrell Wall
Billy Farrell Wall, of Westport, husband of the late Marie Cudak Wall, died Saturday, Nov. 4, at home. He was 60.
Mr. Wall was born in Austin, Texas, son of the late Edward and Gladys Wall. Prior to moving to Westport two years ago, Mr. Wall had been a longtime resident of Weston. He was a tax attorney and former employee of Amax Inc. in Greenwich for 23 years. He was a 1966 graduate of the University of Texas, a 1969 graduate of the University of Texas Law School and in 1975 received a master's degree in tax law from New York University. He loved mountain climbing, hiking and all sports.
Survivors include his life partner, Mary Ellen Sullivan of Westport; one sister, Judy Ann Meyer of Austin, Texas; three nephews, Randy Meyer of Gonzales, Texas, Ricky Meyer of San Antonio and Robbie Meyer of Austin; and five great-nieces and nephews, Trevor, Austin, Madison, Kevin and Cassandra Meyer.
A funeral service was held Tuesday at the Saugatuck Congregational Church, 245 Post Road E., Westport, with the Rev. John Danner officiating. Interment was in Saint Mary's Cemetery, Greenwich. The Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Rd. E., Westport, was in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth White Yoder
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service for Elizabeth (Betty) White Yoder, Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Wilton Congregational Church, 70 Ridgefield Road, Wilton.
Survivors include her husband, Paul R. Yoder Jr.; and four children, David L. Yoder of Monroe, Martha A. Yoder of Newtown Square Pa., and Carol S. Yoder and Alan D. Yoder, both of Norwalk.

Paul Beres
On Nov. 8, Paul Beres, MD, died peacefully in his sleep after a long illness. He was 78.
Dr. Beres was born in New York City, the son of David Beres, MD, and Dinah Beres. His family moved to Crestwood, N.Y., where he remained until he was 16 years old. He left Crestwood to attend Williams College. He graduated with honors and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. During the time he was in college he had a brief stay in the U. S. Army in Japan.
Leaving Williams, he went to Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons Medical School. He spent four years there graduating in 1952, at which time he left New York and moved to Chicago.
He was married during his sophomore year of medical school to Adele Freund of New York City. He did his internship, residency, fellowship and eventually became chief resident in medicine at the University of Chicago Clinics. He found the five-year period extremely exciting and rewarding. At the end of five years, he and his wife had a decision to make: whether he would stay academic and teach or go out into the world as a practicing physician. He decided to do the latter.
He and his wife returned East in June of 1957 and looked for a town in which to practice. They settled in Westport. This turned out to be an excellent choice and Paul practiced there until 2000. During that period of time he founded Internal Medicine Associates of Westport, a partnership with ultimately five other internist physicians. This group was probably the major source of non-surgical practice in the Westport community. Dr. Beres also served as the assistant chairman of medicine and on the Medical Board of Norwalk Hospital.
After his first wife died, he married Jill Williams Ross of Westport. He is survived by his wife, Jill; four children with his first wife, Linda Karen Beres, Mary Ellen Holden, Carol Ann Strickberger and Susan Amy Beres-Schwartz; his adopted children, Valerie Ann Ross and Hal Ross; and six grandchildren.
His interests were primarily in medicine and his garden, both of which he loved. He turned a rather matter-of-fact acre of landscaping into a "show" garden.
Dr. Beres will be remembered most for his quick wit, brilliant intellect and the fact that he still made house calls.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m., at the Unitarian Church in Westport.

Anne Crane
Anne Brubaker Crane of Westport died in her home on Nov. 5 after a six-year battle with cancer.
Mrs. Crane was born in New York City on Nov. 23, 1940, daughter of the late Winthrop and Josephine Brubaker. She was a lifetime resident of Westport, where she would be remembered by many people by her nickname "Muffin."
She is survived by her son, Brian Crane of South Salem, N.Y.; her daughter, Melissa Crane Maillett of Vienna, Va.; three grandchildren, Jack, Alison and Chase; her sisters, Carol Fragoso of New Jersey and Betsy Flynn of Cincinnati; as well as a large collection of friends.
Mrs. Crane stayed at home to raise her two children, but was never idle. She was an accomplished knitter, weaver, spinner and quilter, and was a member of the Hand-Weaver's Guild of Connecticut. After her children were grown, she worked for Save the Children for more than 10 years and found time to pursue her love of the outdoors. She was a member of the Appalachian Hiking Group and the Unitarian Hiking Group, and spent much of her time camping, hiking, bird-watching and enjoying long walks at Compo Beach.
A memorial celebration for Mrs. Crane's life will be held at Earthplace (formerly The Nature Center), 10 Woodside Lane, Westport, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Crane's memory be made to the Aspetuck Land Trust, PO Box 444, Westport, CT, 06880.
Elaine Thomas
Elaine Thomas, a Redding resident since 1976, died on Oct. 31 at Danbury Hospital. A former resident of Westport and Weston, she was the wife of the late Kent Thomas Jr., by whom she was predeceased in 2003.
Mrs. Thomas was born in Denver on Feb. 23, 1917, a daughter of the late Gus and Mildred Nimtz.
She and Kent were married in 1937 and lived in Denver until 1951, when they moved to Highland Park, Ill. They finally settled in Connecticut in 1957.
Mrs. Thomas was an accomplished violinist and played with a string ensemble in Illinois from 1952 to 1957, and was a guest performer with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. She devoted much of her life to her family, raising three children and caring for several grandchildren. In Redding, she had been a member of the Newcomers Club and the Garden Club.
She is survived by her three children, Janelle Lawrence of Redding, Terry Thomas and his wife, Candace Shubert, of Sparks, Nev., and Kent Thomas III and his wife, Deborah, of Trumbull; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Known for her sparkling blue eyes, a beautiful smile and gentle nature, she will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
Services and interment will be private. There are no calling hours.

Ernest K. Blastos Jr.
Ernest K. Blastos Jr. of Fairfield, husband of Kathleen Anne Viery, died Tuesday morning at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was 68.
Mr. Blastos was born in Keene, N.H., son of the late Ernest K. Blastos Sr. and Lenabel Hall Blastos. Before moving to Fairfield 10 years ago, Mr. Blastos had resided in Westport for 26 years. He was employed in the paper industry for 36 years prior to retiring from Crown Vantage in 2000.
Mr. Blastos graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1960 with a bachelor's degree in business and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He was an officer in the U.S. Army during the early 1960s and continued his community service by volunteering faithfully at the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk and with AmeriCares in Stamford. Mr. Blastos continued his education at Fairfield University, studying art history, environmental issues and world religions.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three daughters, Jessica Blastos and her husband, Michael Cripps, of Stratford, Sara Tamblyn and her husband, George, of Issaquah, Wash., and Abigail Blastos and her husband, Dennis Simmons, of Seattle, Wash.; five grandchildren, William Blastos, Emma and Nathaniel Cripps and Rex and Devin Tamblyn; and his dog, Emmy.
