Rachel E. Tonner

Rachel E. Tonner died in New York City on September 4, 2003 at the age of 29. She was a former resident of Candlewood Road, New Fairfield, moving to Block Island, Rhode Island in 1990. Miss Tonner is the daughter of Kurt and Erica (Safranski) Tonner and was born in Danbury on September 1, 1974. She attended New Fairfield High School up to her sophomore year and finished High School on Block Island. She attended Boston University. While a resident of New Fairfield she attended Fanton Dance Studio.
Besides her parents of Block Island she is survived by her brothers; Eric Tonner of Danbury and Kristofer and his wife Karen Tonner of Atlanta Georgia; an uncle, Niles Tonner of Block Island and an aunt, Marcia Tonner of Weston; two cousins also survive.
Funeral Information
Memorial Services will take place on Friday, October 3rd at 3:00pm at St. Andrew Church, Chapel Street, Block Island. The Cornell Memorial is in charge of arrangements.

Alexander J. Tomczuk

Alexander J. Tomczuk, 80, of Danbury, devoted husband of Charlotte (Schullery) Tomczuk, died on Monday October 6th in the presence of his loved ones, at Danbury Hospital. He was a lifetime member of the Danbury community, born on February 6, 1923, son of the late John and Veronica (Jackiewicz) Tomczuk. He attended Sacred Heart School and Danbury High School.
Mr. Tomczuk was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army. He was a recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and Distinguished Unit Badge.
He was a professional contractor, owning and operating Atom Tile Co. in Danbury for forty years. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Danbury, where he was an Altar Server as a boy. He was an avid sports fan, enjoying the Yankees & the Giants, as well as local football, baseball and bowling.
Besides his cherished wife of 53 years, Charlotte, he is survived by a daughter, Jill Tomczuk-Dowdall and her husband, Edward Dowdall, of Granite Springs, NY; a brother, Joseph Tomczuk and his wife, Kay, of State College, PA; as well as several beloved nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all for his talent, his warmth, and legendary good nature. He was predeceased by sisters, Kazi Smith and Helen Sienkiewicz.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of Danbury Hospital, Primary Care Center of Danbury, and the Carmel VA Clinic, for their care and attention.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Thursday, October 9th at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Cottage Street, Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday, October 8th between the hours of 5 and 7 pm at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury.

John R. Nalley III
October 05, 1949 - October 08, 2003
John “Jack” Richard Nalley III, 54, of Silcam Drive, Danbury, devoted husband of Ellen (O’Donnell) Nalley, died on Wednesday at his home. He was born in Norwalk, on October 5, 1949, son of Anna A. Nalley of Ridgefield and the late John R. Nalley, Jr. He was a graduate of Teterboro School of Aeronautics.
Jack has made his home in the Danbury community since 1977. He worked as a mechanic with Lostocco Services for four years. He was a member of the International Operating Engineers Union and attended St. Gregory the Great Church. He was a dedicated family man and loved watching his children play sports.
Besides his wife of 27 years, and his mother, Jack is survived by his three cherished children, John R. Nalley, IV, Patrick O. Nalley, both of Danbury, and Elizabeth Nalley of Oakville; two grandsons, Chase W. Nalley and Reese W. Nalley. He is also survived by sisters, Charlotte Vena and her husband Andrew of Bethel, Pamela Williams of Ridgefield; several nieces and nephews; as well as father-in-law, Philip D. O’Donnell, Sr., brother and sister-in-law, Philip and Diane O’Donnell, Jr., all of Herkimer, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 11th, 9:00am, at St. Gregory the Great Church, Danbury. Burial will follow in Wooster Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Friday, October 10th between the hours of 5 and 9 pm.

Doris (Brown) Chappuis
June 15, 1917 - November 19, 2003
Doris (Brown) Chappuis of Church St., New Milford, wife of the late Augustus Chappuis, died on November 19, 2003 at The Kent at the age of 86. She was born on June 15, 1917, in Reading, PA, daughter of the late William and Marjorie Brown. She was a 30 year member of the New Milford community.
Mrs. Chappuis was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a homemaker and a talented seamstress. She enjoyed tending her flower garden, fishing, and feeding wild birds. She attended the Congregational Church of Brookfield.
She will be sadly missed by her sons, Douglas E. Chappuis of New Milford, and Bernard P. Chappuis of Danbury; her daughters, Frances M. Bishop of Virginia and Marie E. Romano of California. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three sisters, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Myron Chappuis.

Mary Catherine (Toth) Setaro

Mary Catherine (Toth) Setaro, 90, of Concord Road, Danbury, wife of the late Lawrence L. Setaro, died on Monday, November 24th, at Danbury Hospital. She was born in Danbury on January 21, 1913, daughter of the late John and Agnes (Miskar) Toth.
Mrs. Setaro was a graduate of St. Peter School and Danbury High School. She worked for The Lee Hat Factory. She was a lifetime parishioner of St. Peter Church in Danbury.
Mrs. Setaro was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She will be sadly missed by her sons Lawrence F. Setaro of Danbury and John A. Setaro of Southbury; and her grandson, Brendan C. Setaro of Southbury. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Anna (Patruno) Balash
January 14, 1947 - November 24, 2003
Anna (Patruno) Balash, 56, of Birch Road, Brookfield, devoted wife of Thomas Balash, Jr. died on Monday, November 24th at the Danbury Hospital. She was born on January 14, 1947 in Naples Italy, daughter of Concetta (Cammaro) Patruno and the late Antonio Patruno.
Anna was the owner of “Remember When?”, a sport card shop, in Brookfield which has been run with the assistance of her husband and sons for many years. She worked in the security department at Costco Wholesale for four years. She loved cooking for her family, flowers, music, and her Italian heritage. She was a parishioner of St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church in Brookfield.
Besides her loving husband of 29 years, and her mother, Anna will be sadly missed by her sons, Anthony Balash of Brookfield and Daniel Balash of Houston, TX.; her granddaughter, Mariah; five brothers, Enzo, Sergio, Gino, Franco and Vittorio Patruno, all of Italy; four sisters, Sandra, Rosaria, and Rita Patruno, Maria and her husband, Claudio, all of Italy. She is also survived by aunts, Lucia Patruno of Italy, Connie Wendeel of Bethel, and Lina Patruno of Danbury; an uncle, Michael Poodiack of Florida; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; her mother-in-law, Mary C. Balash; special friend, Julia Perillo of Brookfield, as well as many co-workers and friends at the Costco Wholesale Club.

Carmela (Grosso) Russo
December 20, 1911 - November 25, 2003
Carmela M. (Grosso) Russo, formerly of Woodview Drive, Brookfield, devoted wife of the late John L. Russo, died on Tuesday, November 25th at Filosa Convalescent Center, at the age of 91. She was born in the Bronx, NY., on December 20, 1911, daughter of the late John and Filomina (Perillo) Grosso. She made her home in Brookfield in 1958 when her husband was transferred for the opening of Eagle Pencil Company in Danbury.
Mrs. Russo was a loving wife and mother. She will be sadly missed by her sons, John H. Russo and his wife, Sharon, James A. Russo and his wife, Ann, all of Brookfield; three grandsons, Matthew J., Anthony J., and Daniel J. Russo; her granddaughter, Molly A. Russo; and sister, Antoinette Grosso. Besides her husband she was predeceased by brothers, James and Lewis Grosso, and a sister, Margaret Papa.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Church, Brookfield, on Saturday, December 20th at 9:00am. Entombment of cremains will follow in the Garden Mausoleum at St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury. There are no calling hours. The Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road, Brookfield, is in charge of arrangements.

George C. Browne
January 24, 1914 - January 29, 2004
George C. Browne, 90, of the Villiage at Brookfield Commons, died on Thursday, January 29th at Danbury Hospital. He was born in New Rochelle, NY, on January 24, 1914, son of the late Patrick and Marie (Crane) Browne.
Mr. Browne worked for Burndy Electronics. He enjoyed traveling and attended St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church in Brookfield.
He is survived by a sister, Lorraine Emmerson of New Rochelle, NY; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church on Tuesday, February 3rd, 10:00am. Cremation and interment will take place at the convenience of the family. Susie (Holic) Fako
April 21, 1907 - March 23, 2004
Susie, (Holic) Fako, formerly of Stratton Place, Danbury, wife of the late Paul Fako, Sr., died on Tuesday, March 23rd, at Riverglen, Southbury, at the age of 96. She was born in Danbury on April 21, 1907, daughter of the late Stefan and Anna (Podmierski) Holic. As an infant she returned to Tura Lura Myjava Slovakia and was educated there.
She returned to the Danbury Community at the age of 17. She was employed as a domestic until she married then worked in various hatting facilities. She retired from Branson Ultrasonic as an assembler at the age of 65.
Mrs. Fako was a member of St. Paul’s Slovak Lutheran Church in Danbury. She loved her Bible and was a devoted Christian. She was a friendly, outgoing person who enjoyed membership in the Sokol Club, and was the financial secretary for the Ladies Aid Society of St. Paul’s.
She will be sadly missed by her son, Paul Fako, Jr. and his wife, Florence, of Southbury; her grandson, William Wiedergott, II, of Northboro, MA.; five great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Samko Holic of Slovakia, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Slovak Lutheran Church, Spring Street, Danbury, on Saturday, March 27th at 10:00am. Burial will follow in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St. Danbury on Friday, March 26th between the hours of 5 and 8pm.
