Jean F. Olive
Jean F. Olive, 84, of Simeon Road, Bethel, husband of the late Elizabeth (Vante) Olive, died at Danbury Hospital on Sunday, October 23. He was born on February 4, 1921, in St. Thomas of the Virgin Islands, son of the late Frederick and Emily (Chaplain) Olive.
Mr. Olive was a Veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army.
He worked as a bartender for Park Sheraton Hotel in Manhattan, New York, retiring after 38 years. He was a parishioner of St. Mary Church in Bethel.
Mr. Olive was an avid stamp and coin collector. He enjoyed gardening and working with his hands fixing things. He had a playful sense of humor. When asked his age he would jokingly reply "I'm 42 in each leg."
He will be sadly missed by his son, Frank Olive Jr. and his wife, Maureen of Bethel; his daughter, Suzan Starke and her husband Joe Warren of Holmes, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Frank and Denise Olive, Christopher Starke and Jennifer Dormer; his great-grandchildren, James, Ashley, Michele and Elizabeth Dormer. He is also survived by seven siblings, Mike, Fr. Alphonso, Wally, Maggie, Marie, Sylvia and Emily; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 in the morning on Saturday, November 12, 2005, at St. Mary Church in Bethel.
Cremation will take place at the direction of the family.

Hazel Marie Hoyt Bickford
Hazel Marie Hoyt Bickford, 88, of Cedarvale, New Mexico, died peacefully on Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at Senior Care in Los Lunas, New Mexico.
She was born September 12, 1917, in Junction City, Kan., the daughter of the late James and Gertrude (Staehnke) Hoyt. Her family moved to Ontario, California when she was 7. An able businesswoman, Hazel and her late husband, Fred Bickford, owned Bickford's Tire Sales in Ontario for 15 years.
Hazel retired and left California at the age of 50 to attend the University of Oklahoma, then moved to her beloved New Mexico, where she lived a life of plucky independence for over 30 years in Albuquerque, Mountainair, Belen, and Cedarvale before her Parkinson's disease necessitated assisted living.
Always concerned with politics, human progress and welfare, Hazel corresponded with people around the world who valued her ideas, and her incisive and unflinchingly honest sense of humor. She served on New Mexico boards for rural water, conservation and development, and programs for senior citizens, and authored many passionate and insightful letters to the editor.
Hazel is survived by one daughter: Jane Bickford and her husband Robert Pitt Jr. of Bethel; a grandson, Thomas Pitt and his wife Claire of Nashville, Tennessee; and a granddaughter, Margaret Pitt of Bethel. She was predeceased in July by her brother, Dean Hoyt.
The family will receive friends for a celebration of Hazel's life at her home in Cedarvale on November 6 at noon. Contributions in Hazel's memory may be made to the Bethel Public Library Capital Campaign, 189 Greenwood Ave., Bethel, CT 06801.
Frederick R. Scheer Sr.
Frederick R. Scheer Sr., 75, of Danbury, husband of Eleanor (Mead) Scheer, passed away at Danbury Hospital on Wednesday, October 26, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Scheer was born on October 16, 1930, in Crosby, N.D., son of the late Fred H. and Anne (Gustavson) Scheer. He was U.S. Navy Veteran, retiring after 21 years of service. Upon his retirement from the Navy, he married his wife of 37 years and moved to Danbury. Frederick worked for the City of Danbury Highway Department for 23 years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Brookfield 10201, The Teamsters 677, Progressive Lodge of IOOF, The Retired Enlisted Association (TREA), and had been a member of St. James Church. He enjoyed camping and spending time with his loving family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Virginia Anne Huff of Danbury, Debra J. Trocolla of Danbury, Frederick R. Scheer Jr., of Bethel and Suzanne McCormick of Port Orange, Fla.; nine grandchildren: Frankie, Mark, Carrie, Danielle, Gary, Christopher, Kristen, Thomas and Justin; 4 great-grandchildren: Andrew, Kayla, Paul and Ciera; his sister, Betty Bolinske of Nampa, Idaho; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Gerald E. Scheer.
Funeral Services will be held at St. James Episcopal Church on Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Mountainview Cemetery, New Fairfield. Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, on Monday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Edith Esner
Edith Esner, age 91 of Bridgeport, died Wednesday October 26, 2005, in her home, beloved wife of 36 years of Sidney Esner.
Mrs. Esner was born in Bridgeport, a daughter of the late Nathan and Jennie (Goodman) Nussenbaum, and was a dental hygienist in Bridgeport for many years.
She was a member of the Bridgeport Historical Society, Congregation Rodeph Sholom Sisterhood, The Jewish Home for the Elderly Sisterhood, Brandeis University Women's Association, and Hadassah. She was an avid bridge player, loved Broadway shows, and with her husband Sidney traveled the world extensively.
Besides her husband, Sidney, she is survived by her local daughter, Barbara Roos of Danbury.
Services will take place on Friday, Oct. 28 at 12 p.m. (TODAY) from The Abraham L. Green & Son Funeral Home, 88 Beach Road in Fairfield.

Edith Cotugno-Petrini
Edith Cotugno-Petrini, age 81 of New Milford, formerly of Bethel, died at her home on Thursday October 27, 2005.
Ms. Petrini was born January 17, 1924, in Brooklyn, N.Y., a daughter of the late Aniello and Mary (Stingo) Cotugno. As a young woman, she was employed as a seamstress in the New York City garment district. Ms. Petrini lived in Bethel for many years and has been a resident of New Milford for 12 years. She was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church, New Milford.
Ms. Petrini is survived by a son, Joseph Petrini and his wife Beverly of Zephyr Hill, FL; two daughters, Marie C. Douglas and her husband Phil of New Milford and Donna Petrini of New Milford; two brothers, Robert Cotugno and his wife Carmela of California and Harry Cotugno and his wife Eileen of New Jersey; eight grandchildren including her grandson, Robert Petrini Jr. with whom she lived; and three great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her son, Robert Petrini Sr.; granddaughter, Bridget Petrini and grandson, Matthew Douglas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Francis Xavier Church, New Milford, Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Danbury.
Family will receive friends in the Colonial Funeral Home, 87 Park Lane Road, New Milford, Friday evening from 7 until 9 p.m.

Callie N. Dalton
Callie N. Dalton, 83, of Tower Road, Brookfield, devoted wife of John Dalton, died at her home on Wednesday, October 19, 2005. She was born in Coahoma, Texas on March 29, 1922, daughter of the late Robert M. and Olena (Pederson) Wheeler. She attended Oklahoma State University.
Mrs. Dalton worked as a Postal Clerk for the United States Postal Service for twenty-five years. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and spent much of her time organizing for Crafts House of Treasure sales.
In addition to her husband, John, she will be sadly missed by her four sons, Ray of New Milford, Mark of Danbury, Steven of Bennington, Vt., and Wade of Hemlock, N.Y.; her daughter, Elyse Dalton of Brookfield; her twelve grandchildren, Cody, Jesse, Jeremy, Kayla, Christopher, Becky, Matt, Katie, Jason, Stephen, Carl and Dan. She is also survived by her sisters, Roberta Sady and Dora Eubanks; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 5 at 3 p.m. at the Newbury Congregational Church in Brookfield.
The Brookfield Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert Hennessey
Robert Lewis Hennessey, 63, of Malabar, Fla., died Monday December 5, 2005, at Palm Bay Community Hospital in Florida.
Mr. Hennessey was a United States Marine Corps veteran and a Catholic by faith. He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Ilona; son, Eric Hennessey, of Sweden; stepdaughter, Elona Demeny, of Palm Bay, Fla.; mother, Mary McDonald, of Danbury; brother, William Hennessey, of Danbury; sister, Kathy Toomey, of Sandy Hook; brother-in-law, Michael Dinho, of Danbury; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Dinho. A visitation will be held on Saturday December 10, 2005, at Fountainhead Memorial Funeral Home in Palm Bay, Fla., from 10 a.m. until noon. Funeral services will immediately follow at noon.
Rev. James P. Flynn
Fr. Flynn of Mamaroneck, N.Y., went home to his Divine Lord on Thursday, December 8, 2005, after a brief illness. He had served as a priest of the Archdiocese of New York for more than 58 years.
Father was born in Manhattan on February 25, 1922, to Patrick and Catherine Monaghan Flynn, and attended Immaculata High School, Manhattan College, and St. Joseph's Seminary, Dunwoodie. He was ordained on March 1, 1947, and his first assignment was St. Mary's Parish in Ellenville, N.Y. In 1953 he was reassigned to Most Holy Trinity Parish in Mamaroneck, N.Y., where he served for more than 21 years. Here he focused his ministry on the parish youth and began the Jr. Holy Name Society for the boys and the Jr. and Sr. Sodalities for the girls and young women. An athlete himself, he introduced CYO sports, including softball, basketball, and cheerleading teams for grammar and high school youth, acting as coach of most of the teams, many of which were Archdiocesan champions.
He was named administrator of Our Lady of Refuge Church in the Bronx in 1974 and pastor in 1977. His last assignment was pastor of Sacred Heart Church, Patterson, N.Y., from 1985 until his retirement in 1997. Upon retiring, he moved to Mamaroneck where he continued his ministry serving at Greenwich Woods Health and Laurelton Health Care Centers in Greenwich, and Resurrection Church in Rye, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph, and sister, Elizabeth.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Monday, December 12, 2005, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Patterson, N.Y. The principle celebrant will be the Most Rev. Dennis J. Sullivan, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of New York and the homelist will be the Rev. Thomas M. Lutz, pastor of Sacred Heart Church.
Interment following at St. Lawrence O'Toole Cemetery, Brewster, N.Y. Friends may call at the Beecher Funeral Home, 1 Putnam Ave., Brewster, on Sunday from 2 to 7 p.m.. On Monday there will be a visitation at Sacred Heart Church from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. before the Mass.
Lt. Col. Frank L. Larson
Lt. Col. Frank L. Larson, U.S. Army Artillery (Ret.), entered into rest November 23, 2005, in San Antonio at the age of 88. He was born in Bethel, son of Frank E. and Anna East Larson, on the historic farm of Hy-Croft Dairy on the top of Hoyt's Hill. He was President of his 1934 High School Class. After attending the University of Maryland, he entered service with the Connecticut National Guard in February 1941 and fought in the European Theater during World War II. He left the service in 1945, but was recalled to active duty in January 1951 during the Korean War. He served for 16 months in Korea. After graduating from the Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kan., he continued to serve in the U.S. Army until retirement in March 1966. He was a Past Master of Eureka Lodge No. 83 A.F. & A.M. of Bethel, where he was a member for 60 plus years. He was a dual member of the David Crockett Lodge No. 1225 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite of Free Masonry Valley of San Antonio, Texas, and Alzafar Shrine. He attended church at the Fort Sam Houston Chapel, where he served as an usher. He is survived by his wife, Christine Snow (Tina) Larson; son, Jerald F., of Los Angeles; daughter, Melanie Larson-Knaub, of San Antonio; four grandchildren and one great grandchild; a sister, Frances Larson Baris, of Dover, Ohio; and three cousins in Connecticut. The family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
Ethel P. Smith
Ethel P. Smith, at Hancock Hall in Danbury, died Dec. 9, 2005. She was born in Washington Heights, Manhattan, N.Y., daughter of Arthur E. and Lillian Hyde Lovelace Parrish. She attended schools in Hastings on Hudson and Yonkers, N.Y. As a young woman she moved with her family to Astoria, Queens and worked in lower Manhattan for 17 years in the insurance industry. While living in St. Albans, N.Y., she met her husband, Perry B. Smith. They were taking night adult high school classes in Jamaica, Queens.
Ethel and Perry successfully operated the Perry B. Smith Insurance and Real Estate Agency in Roosevelt, Long Island, N.Y., for nearly four decades. Most of the operational details of the agency were in Ethel's hands, since Perry worked full time in the Surrogate Court in Mineola, where he held the position of examiner of the Guardian accounts. Ethel had been very active in the Insurance Women's Association. Perry and Ethel took great pride in their son Robert who worked as a physicist for Gruman Aircraft on the Lunar Excursion Module (LEM). As the aerospace industry downsized, Robert joined the Nassau County Court and rose to be an officer of the court in the New York State Court System. During retirement, Perry and Ethel traveled the world and enjoyed being snow birds, traveling from their home in Garden City, N.Y., to Traveler's Rest, an Airstream Trailer Community in Dade City, Fla. After Perry's death, Ethel moved to Bellmore to be near her son and daughter-in-law and became active in the Senior Center. Soon after the unexpected death of her son, Ethel moved to the Homesteads in Newtown, where she enjoyed the fine amenities and good company until she needed supervised medical care, at which time she entered Hancock Hall.
She is survived by her very loyal daughter-in-law, Elizabeth T. Smith, of Bellmore, N.Y.; a devoted friend, Brenda Fleming, of Delhi, N.Y.; a nephew, Bruce A. Parrish, his wife, Joyce, and daughter, Becky, of New Milford.
Those who knew Ethel would agree that her most unique and endearing feature was her smile.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St. in Danbury with the Rev. Dr. Laura Ahrens of St. James Episcopal Church officiating. Interment services will follow in Greenfield Cemetery in Uniondale, N.Y., at 1:30 p.m. Friends will be received at the funeral home Monday from 10 to 11 a.m.

William John Domalewski
William John Domalewski, 58, of Norwalk, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2006, at the Laurel Ridge Health Care Center in Ridgefield.
He was born in Norwalk on August 30, 1947, son of Josephine Manzi Domalewski, of Norwalk, and the late William Joseph Domalewski and resided in Norwalk most of his life. He graduated from Brien McMahon High School and received his L.P.N. from J.M. Wright Technical School. During his nursing career he worked at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, U.C.L.A. Medical Center in Los Angeles and then joined the nursing staff at Laurel Ridge Health Center, where he worked over 10 years and eventually spent his final days being cared for and comforted by his close friends and co-workers, for which his family is deeply grateful. Bill was an avid gardener and coin collector. He also enjoyed sketching and painting.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a brother, Ronald Domalewski; a sister, Joan Nistico, and her husband, Thomas Sr.; two nephews, Thomas Nistico Jr. and Daryl Nistico, all of Norwalk.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Philip Church, Norwalk. Interment will be private. Estelle Kathleen Rothar
Estelle Kathleen Rothar died peacefully in her sleep March 3, 2006, at River Glenn in Southbury.
Mrs. Rothar was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on April 7, 1917, and resided in Southbury for the past 37 years.
She was educated at St. Patrick's Academy in Montreal and in the early years of World War II she was employed as an aircraft worker building fighter planes for the Royal Canadian Air Force. She emigrated in 1940 when she became the au pair to the children of the Norwegian Consulate residing in Port Washington, N.Y.
In 1945, she was married to George Russell Rothar II in Rye, N.Y. After their marriage they settled in Greenwich.
Estelle was preceded in death by her husband and two sisters, Carroll Cox, of Southbury, and Rita Faulkes, of Montreal.
She is survived by her daughter, Grace Beninson, of Hinsdale, N.H., and her son George Russell Rothar III, of Southbury; two grandchildren, Alexis Beninson, of Hinsdale, N.H., and Phillip Beninson, of Brattleboro, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews. The family requests that donations be made to the Salvation Army.
Services for Mrs. Rothar will be held Friday March 10 at 10 a.m. at the Southbury funeral home of Munson-Lovetere (235 Main St. No/Route 6)
Calling hours will be held at the funeral home Thursday March 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Pine Hill Cemetery, Southbury.
Donald Costa
Donald Costa, age 58, of Parker, Colo., formerly of Bethel, died Saturday March 4, 2006, in Colorado.
He was born in Danbury on Jan. 2, 1948, son of the late Antonio and Adelina Costa.
He is survived by three sons, Lucas, Brett and Kenneth, all of Parker; and two brothers, Allan (his wife, Trish) and Robert (his wife, Kathy); and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his brother, George.
Funeral services will be held at the Parker Funeral Home in Parker Colorado on Tuesday March 7 at 7 p.m.
