Dr. Albert R. Brinkman
Dr. Albert R. Brinkman, age 86, retired Newtown Superintendent of Schools and husband of Kit (Kennedy) Brinkman, died Thursday November 18, 2004 at his home in Newtown.
He was born on April 24, 1918 in Orange, New Jersey, a son of the late Albert and Anna (Dell) Brinkman. Dr. Brinkman was a graduate of Montclair State University with a B.S. Degree and earned a Master of Arts Degree from Temple University and a Doctorate of Education from Columbia University.
Dr. Brinkman was an educator and school administrator for over forty years, serving as the director of the American School in Japan and Superintendent of Schools in Dobbs Ferry, Glen Cove, Nyack, NY and Newtown.
Dr.Brinkman served in the Newtown school district during the 1970s.
Dr. Brinkman was a World War II and Korean War Veteran serving as a commissioned Major in the U.S. Army. He was the Recipient of the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Medal.
He was a member of the Newtown Congregational Church and was active for more than fifteen years recording books for the blind.
In addition to his wife, survivors include 2 sons, Douglas Brinkman of Jerico, NY and Peter Brinkman of New City, NY; a daughter, Paula Hughes of Key West, FL; and three granddaughters, Claire, Hannah and Mackenzie. Predeceased by a daughter, Lee.
A Memorial Service will be held in the Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West St., Newtown on Saturday November 27, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial gifts to the Cyrenius H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street, Newtown, CT 06470. Arrangements by the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown.
Hilma Lundquist Koenig
Hilma Lundquist Koenig (age 93) passed away on November 4, 2004 in Fairfax, VA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Koenig; her beloved son, William; and grandsons, Christopher and Erik Griswold. She is survived by her loving son, Robert F. Koenig of Springfield, VA and her beloved daughter, Karen K. Griswold and her husband Edwin of Danbury. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Sarah E. Griswold of Trumbull and Lee F. Griswold of Norwalk; sisters, Ida Cole and her husband Harold of Summerfield, FL and Mildred Corbett of Leesburg, FL.
A memorial service will be held at the Long Ridge United Methodist Church, Long Ridge Road, Danbury, on Saturday December 11, 2004 at 11:00 a.m.
Leon Najman
Leon Najman, 71, of Ridgefield, husband of Irma (Gleissner) Najman, died on Friday morning, November 19, 2004 at his residence.
Mr. Najman was born in Paris, France, July 30, 1933 and resided in the country until the age of 12 when he immigrated to Canada. He attended Canadian schools and graduated from McGill University with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and obtained his master's degree from the University of Connecticut.
He moved to the United States in 1960 from Canada first settling in Norwalk and in 1962 became a resident of Ridgefield.
Mr. Najman was employed as an electrical engineer with the Sperry Corporation at their Norwalk and Danbury facilities. In 1970, he joined Gordon Engineering of Brookfield, retiring in 2000.
Active in the Ridgefield community, he was a member of the Reading for the Blind Program at the Ridgefield Public Library and served as its treasurer for many years, a member of the Meals on Wheels Program and a volunteer driver for the Visiting Nurse Association.
In addition to his wife Irma of forty-four years, a daughter, Suzanne H. Najman of Danbury; a son, Dr. David M. Najman of Lake Forest, IL; a brother, Bernard Najman and a sister, Suzanne Agasee both of Toronto, Canada; and two grandchildren, Natassia and Etienne, survive him.
A granddaughter, Tatiana, predeceased him.
A Celebration of Life Service will take place on Tuesday in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield at 7 p.m.
The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home on Tuesday after 5 p.m.

Ronald J. "Buck" Clobert
Ronald J. "Buck" Clobert, 58, of 22 Main Street, Danbury, husband of Emma (Mourning) Clobert, died at Danbury Hospital, on Thursday: November 18, 2004.
Ronald was born in Bridgeport, July 22, 1946, son of the late John and Floy (McClendon) Clobert.
He graduated from Bassick High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War era. He had worked as an Inspector for the Mahle Cylinder Corporation of Bridgeport and was widely known for his talent as a guitarist with various local groups, including Stars of Harmony, the Gospel Harmonics of Bridgeport and the Bridgeport Starlighters. He was also a member of the Holy Trinity Church in Bridgeport.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Ronald J. Clobert Jr. and daughter, Ronnia T. Clobert, of Stratford; and stepchildren, Christopher Mouning and wife, JoAnn, Kim Baskin and husband, Sheldon, Reginald McGee and companion, Dawn White and Michael Mourning, all of Danbury; a sister, Sadie Watson and husband, Aaron, of Bridgeport; his mother-in-law, Classie "Bea" Mouning; brothers-in-law, Frederick Lambrose and Calvert Mouning; sisters-in-law, Helen McKritis, Mary Mouning, Leticia Mouning; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Holy Trinity Church, 66 Federal St., Bridgeport, on Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m., with Bishop Ronald Riley Sr., officiating.
Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Trumbull.
Friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Steven E. "Gumby" Hanford
Steven E. "Gumby" Hanford, 50, of Ta'Agan Point Road, Danbury, died unexpectedly on Thursday, November 25th. He was born in Danbury on June 30, 1954, son of Earl and Laura (Schultz) Hanford, of Danbury. He attended both Henry Abbott Technical School and Danbury High School.
Steven worked as a union carpenter for the Local 210. He enjoyed bowling, boating and being on the lake. He lived a simple life and was a loving father. He had also played softball, alongside his father in a Danbury Softball League.
In addition to his parents, Earl and Laura Hanford, he is survived by his son, Alan Hanford and his fiancie, Jill of Naugatuck; his daughter, Taylor Hanford of Ansonia; his sisters, Kathy Mallette and her husband Wesley of Danbury, and Cindy Santoro and her husband, Tony of New Milford. He is also survived by his first wife, Sharon (Gette) Hanford of Fairfield, and his second wife, Dawn Hanford of Ansonia, as well as numerous cousins and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Tuesday, November 30th at 10:00 a.m. Burial in Great Plain Cemetery will follow.
The family will receive mends at the funeral home on Monday evening between the hours of 5 and 8:00 p.m.
Mark E. Paniccia
Mark E. Paniccia, age 35, of Sandy Hook, passed away on November 25, 2004 at Yale New Haven Hospital. born in Bridgeport, April 1, 1969, he was the son of Margaret Elizabeth and Fernando Paniccia.
He is survived by his brothers, Mario Paniccia and wife Rose Anna, Michael Paniccia and wife Michele; his sister who loved him so much, Margaret Mary Paniccia; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Mark went to Heaven after a long illness and many hospitalizations. He was very active in the local churches and served at St. Ann's Church and sang in the choir.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 30, 2004, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, in Newtown. Burial will be in St. Rose Cemetery in Newtown. Family and friends may call on Monday, November 29, 2004, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Spadaccino Community Funeral Home, 315 Monroe Turnpike, Route 111, in Monroe.
Dorothy M. Bauer
Dorothy M. Bauer, 54, of Danbury, died as the result of a car accident on November 25, 2004.
Dorothy was born in Queens, NY on January 26, 1950, daughter of the late Arthur and Anna (Klieber) Bauer. Dorothy grew up in New York before moving to Connecticut in 1981 to work for Union Carbide. She then went on to work at Praxair Inc. and was most recently employed at Danbury Hospital, working in the Nephrology Department for Dr. Howard Garfinkel. She had been an active member of St. Peter Church as well as a former member of the Parish Council.
Dorothy is survived by her sister, Carolyn O'Boyle and her husband Gerard, with whom she had made her home; and a brother, Arthur Bauer of California.
Friends may meet at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter Church on Wednesday, December 1, 2004 for a Mass of Christian Burial. Calling hours will take place at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
As a recent kidney transplant survivor, Dorothy was a passionate advocate of organ transplants and had been a member of the Kidney Transplant Support Group. Elsie N. Coughlan
Elsie N. Coughlan, age 93, wife of the late James J. Coughlan, formerly of Farmington, died Tuesday December 28, 2004 in Pope John II Healthcare Center, Danbury, where she had resided the past few years.
She was born in Newtown on May 10, 1911, a daughter of the late Frederick and Mary (Qubick) Bresson. Mrs. Coughlan was a longtime resident of Farmington prior to her illness.
She is survived by one son, James Coughlan of Avon; one daughter, Carol Crenshaw, of Longmont, Colorado; one brother, Francis Bresson, of Sandy Hook; two sisters: Anna Maye, of Newtown and Mary Maye, of Sandy Hook; ten grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, December 31, 2004, in St. Rose of Lima Church, Newtown.
Interment will follow in St. Rose Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.

Elizabeth M. Arguello
Elizabeth M. Arguello, age 89, of Danbury, died Wednesday December 29th at Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of the late Roger V.F. Arguello.
She was born in New York, N.Y., on March 17, 1915, daughter of the late Giovanni and Caterina (Trotta) Minnielli.
She was a 1933 graduate of Bleaks Design School of New York City.
In 1970, at the age of 55, she moved to Danbury to help raise her four grandchildren. She was employed as rental manager for the former Hammersmith Apartments, retiring after numerous years of service.
She was a active member of St. Peter Church, and was a volunteer at South Street School.
She is survived by two sisters: Mary Luizzi and Isabel Rocchio, both of Danbury; her four grandchildren whom she raised: Marie E. Fiddner and her husband Robert, of Bantam; Roger V. Arguello, of Danbury; Elizabeth D. Corson and her husband Michael, of New Milford; and Christopher S. Arguello, of Indianapolis, Indiana; her loving great grandchildren: Donald, Christopher, Peter, Alison, Michael Jr., Ashley and Ryann, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her son, Roger J. Arguello, February 15, 2000.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Church on Friday at 9:30 a.m.
Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Newtown.
Friends will be received at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury today from 4 to 8 p.m.

Barbara Ann Lindquist
'Final Words for Barbara'
Barbara Ann Lindquist, 52, beloved wife of Carl Lindquist of Great Quarter Road, Sandy Hook, died December 21st at Danbury Hospital.
Barbara grew up in Manhasset, Long Island, the daughter of Stephen and Grace Carlough with her brothers, Steve and Tom and her sister, Joan.
Coming from a loving close-knit family, it was only natural for her to put her own family before all else.
A classic case of love at first sight, Barbara met Carl on a blind date Memorial Day weekend 1972; they were married Labor Day weekend that same year. Their 32 years of marriage were spent enjoying each other, family and friends in their dream home, 'Journey's End', by the water's edge. She was the biggest fan of her daughters, Allison and Jaime, from band to color guard, track to volleyball and softball to rugby.
Barbara was a people person and will be missed by all.
In response to the extraordinary, compassionate care she received at Danbury Hospital, the family has established a memorial scholarship in Barbara's name for graduates of Newtown High School, pursuing a career in nursing. A celebration of Barbara's life will be held on February 12, 2005, at the Newtown Congregational Church.
John L. Martino Sr.
John L. Martino Sr., 74, of Candlewood Lake Road, Brookfield, devoted husband of Angeline (Mazzoli) Martino, died at Danbury Hospital surrounded by his family on Tuesday, February 1, 2005.
He was born in Port Chester, N.Y., on August 28, 1930, son of the late Antonio and Elizabeth (Losito) Martino. He was a graduate of Henry Abbott Technical School.
Mr. Martino was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the United States Army. He was a master carpenter and building contractor, co-owning and operating Martino Brothers with his brother Philip for more than 40 years. He also owned and operated Johnny's Cabinets on North Street in Danbury from 1975 until 1995.
Mr. Martino moved from Harrison, New York, to Brookfield in the late 1930s. An active member of the Brookfield community, Mr. Martino was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church for more than 50 years.
He was a police commissioner for the town of Brookfield for 27 years; a member of the Board of Selectmen from 1965 until 1967. He served on the building committees for Huckleberry Hill School, Whisconier School and Brookfield High School. He also served on numerous town boards and commissions and the Democratic Town Committee. He enjoyed active membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Korean War Veterans, and the Catholic War Veterans Post 1042 where he was a past commander of the post.
Mr. Martino was devoted to his faith, his family, his friends and his community. He had a special gift with children. They were drawn to him with his calm and loving demeanor. Some of his happiest moments were holding infants and toddlers in his arms sitting in his rocker until they fell asleep. He loved gardening, woodworking and could always be found in his shop at home working on a project. Tools were his toys. And, Sunday dinners at home with Angie, his sons, their wives, and his grandchildren were cherished.
In addition to his wife of 50 years, Angeline, he will be dearly missed by his sons, John L. Martino Jr. and his wife Jacqueline of Brookfield, Richard J. Martino and his wife Pamela of Brookfield; his four grandchildren, Meredith, Melissa, Mallory and Melinda Martino. He is also survived by his loving sister, Lucy Gillotti and her husband Joseph of Danbury; his many loving brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews; and his dear friend and "brother," Steve Mancini and his wife June of Danbury. He was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday February 5, 2005, at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, Brookfield. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Friday February 4th between the hours of 2 and 4 p.m. and 6 and 9 p.m. The Korean War Veterans will conduct a service at 7 p.m.
