Henry W. Hafer
Henry W. Hafer Jr., age 77, a New Fairfield resident passed away on Monday, Sept. 20, 2004.
Henry was born on Sept. 24, 1926 in Danbury. He served in the Navy aboard the USS Cincinnati during World War II.
He was the son of the late Henry Hafer Sr. and Marie Hafer. Henry was predeceased by his sister, Barbara.
Henry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty and their three children: Henry Hafer the III and his wife Christine, Karen Dias and her husband Tony, Kathryn Proteau and her husband Jacques and two grandchildren: Nicole and Jason Proteau.
On Friday, October 1, 2004 at 6 p.m., a memorial Mass will be held at the Congregational Church on Gillotti Road in New Fairfield.
Jacklyn Wainwright
Jacklyn Wainwright 38 of 14B Winding Rd, Orangeville, Pa., died Thursday September 23, 2004 at her residence.
She was born November 20, 1965 in Oceanside, N.Y. She was the daughter of Jack Wainwright of New Fairfield and the late Cynthia (Sandy) O'Neill Wainwright. She was a 1982 graduate of New Fairfield High School. She worked at the Bloomsburg University in the food service. She has spent the last 10 years at her present address. She enjoyed tubing in Fishing creek, cooking, motorcycles and playing different sports. She was always willing to help others, loved to laugh and make people laugh. She loved her four dogs Seamus, Tommy, Malcolm John and Patrick.
She is survived by two brothers: Dennis of New Milford; and Richard of Washington, D.C. and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at the Green Funeral Home 57 Main St. in Danbury, Saturday at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends Saturday from noon until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers contributions to the S.P.C. A. 2801 Bloom Road Danville, Pa. 17821.
Margery (Brown) Rixford
Margery (Brown) Rixford, 81, of Buckingham Street, Watertown and Lamoine, Maine, died October 7, at the home of her daughter Deborah. She was the widow of Henry Knight Rixford.
Mrs. Rixford was born September 6, 1923 in Gardner, Massachusetts, daughter of the late Walter and Maude (Stanley) Brown. She has lived in Watertown since 1959. Mrs. Rixford was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church in Watertown where she served on many committees. She was also active in the community as a volunteer with the Girl Scouts, the YWCA and the women's auxiliary at Waterbury Hospital. She was knitter, a gardener, and an avid reader. She was never happier than when she was at her camp on Frenchman's Bay in Maine listening to a Red Sox game and watching the seals swim by.
Mrs. Rixford was a graduate of Tufts University, and received her master's degree in education from Central Connecticut State University. She taught 1st, 2nd, and 4th grades at the Baldwin School in Watertown for 20 years.
She leaves two daughters, Penelope Rixford Aglio and her husband Michael of Glastonbury, and Deborah Rixford Osborne and her husband Michael, of Sandy Hook; three grandchildren, Katherine Osborne Munno, Rebecca Osborne Young, and Thomas Michael Aglio; and one great-granddaughter, Jamison Osborne Munno.
Arrangements: Memorial Service will take place October 18, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 40 DeForest St., Watertown. Burial will private at the convenience of the family. Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., Watertown, in charge of arrangements.

Carol D. Carroll
Carol Dieringer Carroll, 62, of Newtown, died on Wednesday, October 13th in Danbury hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of Thomas L. Carroll Jr. She was born in Binghamton, NY, the daughter of the late Woodrow Pratt and Marguerite Pratt.
She attended schools in Endicott, NY, then attended Ohio State University where she received her BS in Education, an MA in Psychology and a Ph.D. in School and Clinical Psychology. In addition, she participated in numerous programs of continuing education in a wide variety of approaches to therapy. Among: other positions, she was a School Psychologist in Kirkwood, MO and Weston, and was a Psychotherapist at the Family Counseling Center in Newtown. Most recently she was in private practice in Newtown and Danbury as Carol P. Dieringer, Ph.D. She was a member of the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology, the American Psychological Association and the Connecticut Psychological Association.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother, Marguerite Brown; her stepfather, Dr. Lauren Brown of Naples, FL and her brother, George Pratt of Raleigh, NC; her stepdaughters, Cathy Carroll of Charlotte, NC, Susan Carroll of Matthews, NC, Cadence Carroll of New Canaan; her stepson, Dr. Thomas Carroll of Denver, CO; her stepsisters, Nancy Carroll of Chicago, IL, Shirley Carroll of Suwanee, GA, Mary Kelley of Cambridge, MA; and her stepbrother, Ben Kelley of Boston, MA.
She was dearly loved by all her family and will be dearly missed by all of those who depended so heavily on her for advice and counsel.
At her request there will be a simple memorial gathering for family and close friends at a later date.
She would welcome contributions in her name to the ACLU or to any of Newtown's volunteer or auxiliary organizations.

Mary Ellen Hammitt
Mary Ellen Hammitt, age 80, wife of Sam Hammitt of Cricket Trail, Sandy Hook, died Wednesday October 13, 2004 in Danbury Hospital.
Mrs. Hammitt was born in Johnson City, TN on March 6, 1924, a daughter of the late Alvin and Lula (Fletcher) Orten. She was a resident of Sandy Hook the past 42 years and worked for many years at Curtis Packaging. For 40 years, Mary Ellen was a member of the Newtown Bible Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, survivors include 2 sons, Sam Hammitt of Woodbury and Graham Hill of Southbury; a daughter, Elizabeth Goldstein of Austin, TX; 2 brothers, Thomas Orten of Thomasville, KY and Henry Orten of Johnson City, TN; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Zoar Cemetery, Sandy Hook. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in the Bible Baptist Church, 35 Sugar Street, Newtown.
Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown, Friday (today) from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Joseph L. Resendes
Joseph Laudalino Resendes, 56, of Gustine, CA, died Monday October 11, 2004 at Memorial Medical Center, Modesto, CA.
Born February 7, 1948, Mr. Resendes was a native of San Miguel, the Azores, and had lived in Gustine 22 years. He was a self-employed truck driver for 35 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Miracles Catholic Church, Gustine, CA. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Resendes of Gustine, CA; children, Joseph Resendes Jr. and Maryanne Resendes, both of Gustine, CA and Sandra Resendes of Modesto, CA; brothers, Manuel Resendes of Volta, CA, Tony Resendes of Bethel, Louis Resendes of Danbury, and Walter Resendes of Modesto, CA. He was predeceased by his parents, Manuel and Evangelina Resendes.
The rosary was at 6 p.m. Thursday, following visitation from 5 to 6 p.m. at Our Lady of Miracles Catholic Church, Gustine, CA. A Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with burial at Hills Ferry Cemetery, Newman, CA. Hillview Funeral Chapel, Gustine, CA, is in charge of arrangements.

Howard Quigg Jr.
Howard Quigg Jr., age 68, a resident of Danbury Health Care, formerly of Cherry Street, Danbury, died Saturday November 20th at Danbury Hospital.
He was born in New York, NY September 22, 1936, son of the late Howard and Lillian (Wood ) Quigg Sr.
He is survived by his brother, Robert Quigg of Mahopac, NY and his 5 nephews, Thomas, John, James, Robert and Rob Quigg and several cousins.
Funeral Services will be held at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury Tuesday morning at 10:30.
Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, NJ.
Friends will be received at the Green Funeral Home on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Steven John Schneider
Steven John Schneider, infant son of Brandt and Kasey (Keating) Schneider, died Friday, November 19 at Danbury Hospital shortly after birth.
Besides his parents of Southbury, Steven is survived by his grandparents, John Keating of Las Vegas, NV, Kathy Keating of Woodbury, Kurt and Pam Schneider of Newville, PA; his aunts and uncles, Marc and Patty Shay of Southbury and Tyler and Susannah Closs of Carlisle, PA.
Funeral services and burial will be private.

Jolan Biro
Jolan Biro, 70, of Danbury and Boca Raton, Florida, passed away on November 20, 2004 in the Danbury Hospital.
Jolan was born in Hungary on May 8, 1934 and came to the United States in 1958.
A dedicated and loving wife and mother, Jolan is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 45 years, Tamas Biro; son, Joseph (Tommy) Biro and his wife Evylin; daughter, Viola (Biro) Walberg; and four grandchildren, Tamas Biro, Sarah Biro, Kelsey Walberg and Eric Walberg.
Celebration of Jolan's life will be a private family gathering in Florida. As per her wishes, her ashes will be spread in the ocean waters. The ocean is significant in that she came to the United States on a ship and started her family and life as a wonderful wife and mother.

Ronald E. Seger Jr.
Ronald E. Seger Jr., 43, of Plant City, Fla., died Nov. 16, 2004 as a result of a traffic accident.
Mr. Seger was born in Great Barrington, Mass. February 18, 1961, son of Ronald E. Seger Sr. of New Milford and the late Beverly (Coons) Tompkins.
He lived with his father and stepmother, Margaret (Smith) Seger in New Milford, and attended New Milford schools, receiving his GED. While in Connecticut, he worked for Audio Dynamics Corp. and Kimberly-Clark, and as a self-employed carpenter. He moved to Florida in the 1990s where he continued in carpentry and maintenance work.
He loved his family, especially his three children, Ronnie III, Hannah and Danny, and was very close to his extended family and many friends.
In addition to his parents and children, he is survived by 2 brothers, Tom Seger of Bridgewater and Douglas Tompkins of Washington, Conn.; 2 sisters, Donna Paul of Thomaston and Michelle Stuart of Washington, Conn.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Steve Tompkins and grandparents.
Services will be held Tuesday Nov. 23 at 1:30 p.m. at Bible Baptist Church, Kent Road, New Milford.
Family will receive friends a half-hour before, as well as after the service. Services were also held in Brandon, Fla.

Benedict A. Mancino
Benedict A. Mancino, 90, of Hudson Valley Senior Residence, Washington Avenue, Kingston, N.Y. and formerly of Esopus, N.Y. and New York City, died November 19, 2004 at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, N.Y. He was the husband of the late Jeanette Saporito Mancino, who passed away May 8, 1990.
Born February 18, 1914 in Flushing, N.Y., he was a son of the late Peter and Gaetana Nasta Mancino. A member of the class of 1938, he graduated from Benjamin Franklin University, Washington, D.C., with a BCS in Accounting. Mr. Mancino served in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II.
He was employed as an auditor for US Maritime Administration in Washington, D.C., Kings Point, NY and Manhattan until his retirement in 1971. He then worked as a teacher at Delahanty High School in New York City from 1973-1977, teaching accounting and business math. After retiring from teaching, he moved to the Kingston area.
Mr. Mancino was a communicant of Presentation R.C. Church, Port Ewen, N.Y.; was active in the Town of Esopus Republican Party; was a member of the Town of Esopus Board of Appeals from 1983-1984 and had run for town council. He had been president of the Town of Esopus Senior Citizens and for the last 15 years, played piano for seven area nursing homes and senior residences.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Dabrowski of Round Top, N.Y.; two sons, Peter B. Mancino of Bridgewater and Joseph J. Mancino of Little Egg Harbor, N.J.; one sister, Rosalie Scorca of Flushing; nine grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his brothers, Rudolph Mancino, Oreste Mancino and Anthony Mancino; and one sister, Josephine Mancino.
Services are entrusted to the care of the Keyser & Hamilton Funeral Service, 216 Broadway, Port Ewen, where the procession will form on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. and proceed to Presentation R.C. Church, where at 10 a.m. a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Interment will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery, Kingston.
Friends may call on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Keyser & Hamilton Funeral Service, Port Ewen.

Jethalal Kantawala
Jethalal Kantawala, 88, of Far Horizons Drive, Bethel, husband of Kamlaben (Shah) Kantawala, died at his home on Friday, November 19th. He was born in Umreth, India on January 3, 1916, son of the late Narandas and Rukhshmani Kantawala.
Mr. Kantawala was the Chief Inspector for the Western Rail Road in India. He made his home in the United States for the past eight years. He was an educated man who provided Hindu lectures to the Hindu youth. He taught the Hindu Gita to the community. He was a very holy man who would relate Gita stories to the youth and how they pertained to their modern life. He was the author of many religious articles and translated the Hindu Gita to English. He contributed greatly to the Hindu Community.
In addition to his wife, Kamlaben, he is survived by two sons, Harivadan Kantawala and his wife Devila of Bethel, and Dinesh Kantawala and his wife, Varsha of Danbury; his seven grandchildren, Manish Kantawala, Hema Downey, Meeta Kharawla, Bina Parikh, Shital, Kajal and Pooja Kantawala, and two great grandchildren, Reshma Kharawla and Isha Parikh. He is also survived by two brothers in India and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Deepak Kantawala.
The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, on Sunday, November 21st between the hours of 4 and 6 p.m. Cremation will take place on Monday November 22nd, being conducted from the Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m.
