Carl J. Meccariello
PLAINVILLE - Carl J. Meccariello, 77, of 44 Prentice St., died Friday March 12, 1999, at home. He was the husband of Joan Carol (Phillips) Meccariello.
Born Aug. 11, 1921, in Southington, son of the late Domenic and Anna (Nardi) Meccariello. He had retired from the Uni-Max Switch of Wallingford, where he had worked for 37 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II. Mr. Meccariello was a past member of the Sons of Italy, the VFW of Southington and a parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Church in Plainville.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Nancy Ann and son-in-law, Gregg White, of New Hampshire, Mary Ellen Meccariello and her fiancée, Matthew Krom, of Plainville; four brothers, Joseph Meccariello and his wife, Stella, of Philadelphia, Pa., Thomas Meccariello, Pasquale Meccariello and his wife, Ines, and Louis Meccariello, all of Southington.
The funeral will be held Monday, March 15, at 9:15 a.m. from the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington to St. Thomas Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be with military honors at St. Thomas Cemetery. Twyla Raymond
ISLAND FALLS, Maine - Twyla Raymond, 61, of Island Falls, died Feb. 27, 1999, in Bangor, Maine. Mrs. Raymond was born June 13, 1937, in Howe Brook, the daughter of Walter "Roy" and Yvonne (Mitchell) Russell.
In addition to her father, of Oakfield and Virginia, Mrs. Raymond is survived by her husband of 25 years, Rudolph "Pit" Raymond of Island Falls; seven children, Belinda Curtis of Wallingford, Conn., Brent Raymond of Southington, Conn., Frank "Chuck" Carpenter of Lincoln, Maine, Cheryl Brewster of South Meriden, Conn., Denise Hatfield of Wisconsin, and Ricky Raymond and Penny Raymond, both of Meriden; several grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Phyllis Chamberlain of Virginia. She was predeceased by her mother, and one sister, Evelyn.
At Mrs. Raymond's request, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowers Funeral Home.
Robert P. Booth
MERIDEN - Robert Pomeroy Booth, 78, of 44 Clover St., died at Meriden Nursing & Rehab Center after a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy Hesse Booth.
Born in Meriden, March 18, 1920, he was the son of the late Doris Pomeroy Booth Murray and the late William Booth. Mr. Booth was a lifelong Meriden resident and graduated from Meriden High School, class of 1938. He later attended Morse School of Business in Hartford. He was employed by the Travelers Insurance Co., Hartford, for 41 years and retired in 1980 as purchasing agent. Subsequently, he was employed by the Horton Printing Co. of Meriden for six years. Mr. Booth was inducted into the Army in 1942 and served with the 102nd "Ozark" Infantry Division in Europe. He attained the rank of first sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Star for heroic achievement in Germany. Before his illness, he was an active member of the First Congregational Church and a former deacon. Additionally, he was a member of the Meridian Lodge, No. 77, A.F. and A.M. for over 50 years, a life member of the Masonic Veterans Association of Connecticut and the American Legion Post 45. In the 1950s he was a Little League coach for the Lyons Tool and Die Co. baseball team. He, at one time, served on the Meriden Parking Commission. Mr. and Mrs. Booth had been married for 52 years.
Besides his wife, he leaves one son, Richard H. Booth and daughter-in-law, Barbara A. Booth of South Glastonbury.
Friends and relatives may call at the Beecher and Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, on Monday, March 1, 1999, from 5 to 8 p.m. A Masonic service will be held at 7:45 p.m. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
John Ferreira Jr.
OCALA, Fla. - John Ferreira Jr., 77, died Feb. 19, 1999, in Ocala Fla. He was a native of Portugal, a member of St. Jude's Men's Club, and the Knights of Columbus Post 8012. He also was a World War II veteran, medical corps. He was an employee of International Silver Co. for 43 years.
Mr. Ferreira is survived by his second wife, Nora Totz Ferreira; one sister, Mary Jardin, and a brother, Lucky Ferrara, both of Florida; two sons, John Ferreira III and Anthony Ferreira; three grandchildren, Lea, Michael, and Tina; and two great-grandchildren, Cassondra, and Jannesa. He was predeceased by his first wife, Betty (King) Ferreira, and a grandson. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 5740 S. Pine Ave., Ocala, Fla., 34480.
Raymond T. McCormack Jr.
MERIDEN - Raymond Thomas McCormack Jr., 55, of 150 Paddock Ave., died Saturday at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford after a long illness. He is the husband of Barbara Marie Miller McCormack.
Mr. McCormack was born in New Haven on May 15, 1943, the son of the late Raymond Thomas and Margaret Barbuto McCormack Sr. He had lived in Meriden for the past three years. Prior to moving to Meriden, he had resided in Wallingford for 20 years. He was currently employed as a mechanic for the Summitt Handling Systems, Inc. of North Haven. He previously was employed at the North Haven Fire Stone Co. and the Yale Industrial Truck Co.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Thomas McCormack of Palm Coast, Fla.; three daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Charlotte) DeFalco of East Haven, Elizabeth McCormack of Meriden and Mrs. Michael (Barbara) Siciliano of Hamden; two sisters, Sharon Villano of Springdale, Ark., and Mrs. Wayne (Carol) Bush of West Haven; and 12 grandchildren. He is predeceased by a son, Roger McCormack.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 9:45 a.m. at the Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 4 Washington Ave., North Haven. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 in the Most Holy Trinity Church, Wallingford. Burial will be private. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Helen P. Moratti
MERIDEN - Helen P. Moratti, 79, of 117 Charles St., wife of Bruno G. Moratti, died unexpectedly at home, Sunday, Feb. 28, 1999.
Born in New Britain, May 20, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Helen Panasewich. Mrs. Moratti had resided in Meriden for the past 55 years and had attended New Britain schools. She was employed by New Departure Hyatt Bearing Division of General Motors in the Meriden and Bristol plants for 32 years, retiring in 1978. She was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church.
Besides her husband, Bruno, she is survived by a sister, Mildred Panasewich of Meriden; two brothers, Fred Panasewich of Kensington and Raymond Panasewich of Oregon; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Moratti was predeceased by two sisters, Jennie Gast and Nona Panasewich; and by three brothers, Walter, Paul and Jacob Panasewich.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 10 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Rose of Lima Church, 35 Center St., Meriden, CT 06450.
Charles W. Russo
CHESHIRE - Charles W. "Chuck" Russo, died suddenly, Feb. 27, 1999. He was the husband of Margaret Callahan Russo of 81 Hilltop Road.
Mr. Russo was born in Stamford, Oct. 11, 1952, and had lived in the New Haven area since 1970. He was president of RPM of New Haven, Inc. He graduated from Catholic H.S. of Stamford, where he played fullback on the football team, and graduated from Southern Connecticut State University in 1974 with a bachelor's degree in education. He taught at St. Theresa's School in Trumbull for several years. An avid sports enthusiast, he was a director and coach of the Hamden Father's Girls Basketball League, and a member of the Laurel View CC and Pine Valley CC men's clubs.
He was the son of Angelo and Lorraine Merckling Russo of Stamford; father of Kristi L., Kelly E., and Daniel C. Russo of Cheshire; and brother of Garry, Robert and Jeffrey Russo, all of Stamford.
The funeral will be held from the Beecher & Bennett Funeral Home, 2300 Whitney Ave., Hamden, Wednesday, March 3, at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in Blessed Sacrament Church, Hamden at 10 a.m. Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Russo Children Education Trust, c/o Michael Roshka, 52 Homestead Ave., Hamden, CT 06514.
Edith M. Seymour
WOODBURY - Edith Mae (Minkwitz) Seymour, 83, of Old Sherman Hill Road, died Saturday morning at Waterbury Hospital after a brief illness. She was the widow of Donald Seymour.
Mrs. Seymour was born in meriden on March 8, 1915, daughter of the late Erwin and Gertrude (Schwenek) Minkwitz. She was a resident of Woodbury since 1948. She graduated from new Britain Normal School (now known as Central Connecticut State University) with a teaching degree in 1935. She taught for elementary school for 35 years. Over the years, she taught at Seymour School in West Hartford, Shephardson Memorial School in Middlebury, Mitchell School in Woodbury, and Bethlehem Elementary School. She was active with the First Baptist Church of Waterbury as soloist and Junior Choir Director for many years. Most recently, she was a member of the Middlebury Congregational Church.
She leaves five daughters, Gail Seymour of Middlebury, Terry Seymour of Shelburne Falls, Mass, Linda Bowie of West Groton, Mass., Jill Seymour of Tempe, Arizona, and Joannne seymour of Forestville; a sister, Clara Bonell of Londonderry, N.H.; a brother, Russell Minkwitz of Canton, Mass; two granddaughters, Rachel Bowie and Alyssa Bowie, both of West Groton, Mass.; and a son-in-law, Steve Bowie.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Middlebury congregational church, 1242 Whittemore Road, Middlebury. Burial wil follow in Evergreen Cemetery, North St., Watertown. Friends may call at Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main St., Watertown, Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial contribuitons may be made to Woodbury Scholarship Fund.
Angelo Bordonaro
DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. - Angelo Bordonaro of Deerfield Beach Fla., formerly of Meriden, beloved husbasnd of 57 years to Florence (Ricci) Bordonaro passed away Feb. 2, 1999.
He was born in Middletown, Conn., Feb. 3, 1911, son of the late Sebastian and Antoinette (Pistrito) Bordonaro. He worked at the International Silver Co., for 47 years. In 1976, Mr. Bordonaro retired and moved to Florida. He will be missed by many cherished family and friends in both Connecticut and Florida.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Mr. Thomas and Joanne Altieri of Ashford, Conn., and Andrea Bordonaro of Meriden and by a granddaughter, Jeannine Altieri of New Britain, Conn.; one sister and a brother-in-law, Mr. Peter and Josephine Malavenda of Meriden; three brothers and two sisters-in-law; Mr. Salvatore and Mary Bordonaro of Florida, and Mr. Albert and Lucy Bordonaro of Meriden and Frank Bordonaro of Meriden; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Bordonaro was predeceased by his parents and three sisters, Santina Bordonaro, Lina Corsino and Helen Wirth.
There are no calling hours. Burial is at the convenience of the family. If desired, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation.
Richard P. Busa
WALLINGFORD - Richard Paul Busa, 53, of Cliffside Drive, Wallingford, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, in the Hartford Hospital, as a result of injuries received in a fall at work. He was the husband of Donna L. Gryga Busa.
Born in Meriden, April 2, 1945, he was a son of Candido and Antonia Stokas Busa of Fort Pierce, Fla., and was a lifelong Meriden-Wallingford resident. He was a graduate of Orville H. Platt High School in Meriden, and was an U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was employed by SNET for 25 years until his retirement three years ago and was employed by Fiber Cable Inc. of Wallingford for the past three years. He was a parishioner of the Most Trinity Church in Wallingford.
Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by two daughters, Michelle L. Miranda of Meriden and Cherie A. Busa of Wallingford; one son, Jeffrey R. Busa of Wallingford; four sisters, Joann Stocking of Meriden, Tina Bernadini of Gilbertville, Ky., and Karen Busa and Judy Sullivan, both of Fort Pierce, Fla.; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
His family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, at 9:30 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment with military honors, will be in In Memorian Cemetery
