Charles J. Ferrante
WINSTED - Charles J. Ferrante Sr., 84, of 267 Oak St., died Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at Highland Acres Extend-A-Care Center in Winsted. He was the husband of the late Caroline Sverni who died in 1994. Born in Winsted, April 4, 1915, a son of the late Peter and Grazia Godina Ferrante, he had lived here all of his life. Prior to his retirement, he had worked at the Cornucopia and Delio's Grove banquet facilities for many years. He had attended local schools, was a member of BPOE No. 844, the McCarthy Senior Center, and was a communicant of St. Joseph Church.
His survivors include, three sons, Peter Ferrante of Windsor, Charles Ferrante of East Longmeadow, Mass., and Vincent Ferrante of Winsted; a daughter, Celeste Schmitt of Middletown; two sisters, Ernestine Narducci of Colebrook, and Nancy Ragusa of Corona, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Robert Roper of Middletown.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, 9:30 a.m. from the Maloney Funeral Home, 55 Walnut St., to St. Joseph Church for the funeral liturgy at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Joseph New Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Danbury Unit, 40 North St., Danbury, CT 06810, The Connecticut Lung Association, Inc., 45 Ash St., East Hartford, CT 06108, a charity of the donors choice, or please consider being an organ donor.
Ryan T. Shabbott
WALLINGFORD - Ryan Timothy Shabbott, 14, cherished son of Glenn E. and Margaret A. Wright Shabbott of Woodland Drive, Wallingford, died Wednesday, May 26, 1999, at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Born in New Haven, Oct. 25, 1984, he was a lifelong resident of Wallingford. Ryan was a student of ACES Village School in North Haven and a parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection in Wallingford.
Besides his parents, he is survived by a sister, Megan B. Shabbott; two brothers, Christopher J. Shabbott and Kevin J. Shabbott all of Wallingford; his maternal grandfather, Philip A. Wright Sr.; and his paternal grandparents, Earl and Joan Shabbott, all of Wallingford; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Mary Perendi Wright.
His family will received relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Thursday (TODAY) from 4 to 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial, Friday at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Resurrection. Interment will be in Old Center Cemetery

Anna D. Simone
SOUTHINGTON - Anna D. Simone, 96, of 259 Bristol St., died Wednesday, May 26, 1999, at the Southington Care Center.
Born on April 28, 1903, in Southington, daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (DeAngelo) Simone. She was a secretary in New York City for many years and was a parishioner of St. Thomas Church.
She is survived by two brothers, Michael Simone and Louis Simone and his wife Mary; four sisters, Josephine Miranda, Carmelia Della Vecchia, Mary Leach and her husband Joseph, Helen Della Vecchia and her husband Arthur all of Southington; a sister-in-law, Rose Simone and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, George, James, Anthony, and Andrew.
The funeral will be held Saturday, 8 a.m. from the Della Vecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington, to St. Thomas Church at 8:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday 5 to 8 p.m.
Robert J. Willis
WALLINGFORD - Robert J. Willis, 71, of Wallingford and a winter resident of Anna Maria, Fla., died May 24, 1999, in Florida. Born April 7, 1928, in Jersey City, N.J., and husband of Rosemarie Willis.
Mr. Willis was a civil engineer, a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Holmes Beach, Fla., and served in the Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Rosemarie; two daughters, Sally Schoeffel of Panama City, Fla., Susan Willis of Lancaster, Ohio; three sons, Gibson Willis of Alexandria, Va., Douglas Willis of Simsbury; Peter Willis of Reston, Va.; and six grandchildren.
A memorial Mass may be offered at a later date. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to Most Holy Trinity Church, 68 N. Colony St., Wallingford, CT 06492, or Hospice of Connecticut. Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, Holmes Beach Chapel of Florida is in charge of arrangements.
Ernest A. Allard
BRANFORD - In Branford April 3, 1999, husband of Kathleen Devaney Allard of 51 E. Brown St., West Haven, died. He was the father of Kathleen A. Hare of Doylestown, Pa., and Elizabeth "Babette" Dow of West Haven, and the late Robert M. Allard; brother of Dorothy Fritz, Joan Allard and Frederick Allard Jr., all of Meriden. He is also survived by four grandsons.

Rita DeMarco
KENSINGTON - Rita DeMarco, died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at her home, following a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Meriden, the daughter of the late Cesidio and Erminia DeMarco. She had worked as supervisor of the sample department at the Napier Co. for over 50 years. She had been a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Meriden.
She is survived by a brother, Romeo DeMarco and was predeceased by a sister, Violond DeMarco.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 7, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 460 Broad St., Meriden. The Rev. Dr. Robert Prescott-Ezickson will officiate. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. If desired, contributions in Miss DeMarco's memory may be made to the Meriden Humane Society, 49 Oregon Road, Meriden, CT 06451, or to a charity of one's choice.
Alden J. LeClair
WALLINGFORD - Alden J. LeClair, 65, beloved husband of Janet O'Grady LeClair, of Lupine Street Wallingford, died Monday, April 5, 1999, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford, after a short battle with cancer.
Mr. LeClair was born in Barre, Vt., May 25, 1933, a son of the late Adrian and Florida Landry LeClair, and had been a Wallingford resident for the past 47 years. He had been employed at Allegheny-Ludlum Steel Corp. for 40 years, until his retirement as a supervisor six years ago. He was an U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and was a member of the Wallingford Lodge of Elks No. 1365. He was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church, and was very active in Boy Scouts activities in Wallingford.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Susan L. and Kevin R. Sharp of Rockville; his three sons and daughters-in-law, Alden J. LeClair Jr. and Ann Gullans of Meriden, Steven J. LeClair of Wallingford, and David A. LeClair and Rose LeClair of Sterling, Mass; three grandchildren, Haley LeClair, Evan LeClair, and Desi LeCLair; three sisters, Irene (Mrs. Albert) Blanchett and Phyllis (Mrs. Wayne) Lawliss, both of Barre and Marion Sample of Florida; a brother and sister-in-law, Adrian and Constance LeClair of Woodbury, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by several sisters and brothers.
His family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 No. Main Street Ext., Wallingford, Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment, with military honors, will be in St. John Cemetery.
Ernest A. Allard
WEST HAVEN - Ernest A. Allard, of 51 E. Brown St., West Haven, died April 4, 1999, in Branford.
He was the father of Kathleen A. Hare of Doylestown, Pa., and Elizabeth "Babette" Dow of West Haven and the late Robert M. Allard; brother of Leona Harrison of Cheshire, Dorothy Fritz, Joan Allard and Frederick Allard Jr., all of Meriden. He is also survived by four grandsons.

Mary DeMatteo
MERIDEN - Mary Squitieri DeMatteo, 77, of Hanover Street, died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at Masonic Geriatric Healthcare Center. She was the wife of the late Andrew DeMatteo.
Mrs. DeMatteo was born in Long Island, N.Y., Oct. 28, 1921, a daughter of the late Vincent and Carmela Mancuso Squitieri, and had lived in the Bronx, N.Y., for many years, until moving to Wallingford 20 years ago, where she had resided for five years until moving to Meriden 15 years ago.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carmela and Wayne Barry of the Yalesville section of Wallingford; her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Wanda DeMatteo of Kingsford, Tenn.; her two grandsons, Wayne Barry and Timothy Barry; two great-grandchildren, Brian Christopher Barry and Eryn Nicole Barry; three sisters, Angie Pezone of Pelham, N.Y., and Connie Senatore and Phyllis Zayas, both of the Bronx, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Squitieri and Neil Squitieri.
Her family will receive relatives and friends at the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville, Tuesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the Yalesville Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Our Lady of Fatima Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Meriden. Mary's family would like to extend their thanks to the entire staff on Rehab and the Acute Medical Care Units at Masonic Geriatric Healthcare Center for their wonderful, sincere, and loving care given to her during her stay there.
Michael L. Maffucci
TORRINGTON - Michael L. Maffucci, of 14 Grace St., died Saturday, April 3, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Margaret Marracino Maffucci.
Born in Torrington, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Margaret Sabbata Maffucci. He was employed as a plant manager with the Torrington Water Company, retiring in 1979. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He served in the Aleutians, Southern Philippines and received the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Service Stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, the Purple Heart, and the Asia-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a beloved daughter, Kathleen M. Richard of Cheshire; three brothers, Thomas Maffucci of New York and Thomas and John Maffucci of Torrington; four sisters, Virginia Copolla of West Palm Beach, Fla., Mary Dusi of Bristol, Edith Wootten of Torrington, and Lucy Sparks, also of Torrington; two beloved grandchildren, Kaitlin Margaret Richard and Nevan Michael Richard.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters, Rose Pietrafesa, Florence Carillo and Lucy Maffucci.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 7, at 9:30 a.m. from the LaPorta Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to St. Peter Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Francis New Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Michael J. Pacenta
WALLINGFORD - Michael J. Pacenta, 91, of Burgaw, N.C., formerly of Wallingford, died Saturday, April 3, 1999, at Huntington Health Care Center in Burgaw. He was the husband of the late Alberta Mazurciewicz Pacenta.
Mr. Pacenta was born in Shenandoah, Pa., June 16, 1907, son of the late Michael and Stella Vitkosky Pacenta. He had been a Wallingford resident for many years until moving to North Carolina. He had been an electrician at the former New Haven Trap Rock Co. until his retirement, and was a parishioner of SS. Peter & Paul Church in Wallingford.
He is survived by his two daughters and his son-in-law, Connie and William Niggel of Hamstead, N.C., and Mary Louise Grendell of California; his son, Michael A. Pacenta of Burgaw; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ann Poska of Shenandoah. He was predeceased by his daughter, Diane Haase.
Relatives and friends may attend a Mass of Christian burial Friday, April 9, 1999, at 9 a.m. at SS. Peter and Paul Church, 139 North Orchard St., Wallingford. Interment will be in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to MidState Visiting Nurses Association and Hospice, 685 Broad St., Meriden, CT 06450.
