Lee S. Freiman
SOUTHINGTON - Lee Susan Freiman D.P.M.,J.D., nee Grubelich, of Southington, died on March 14, 1999, after a long battle against cancer. Dr. Freiman was born on Oct. 4, 1952, and spent her childhood in Wethersfield. She was the daughter of Claudette and Francis Grubelich of Wethersfield and the wife of Dr. Herbert S. Freiman of Southington.
Dr. Freiman graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1970, and earned a bachelor's degree in biology with honors from the University of Connecticut in 1974. In 1982, she completed her doctor of podiatric medicine degree at the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, going on to residency training at the Guiffre Medical Center in Philadelphia.
Dr. Freiman served as staff podiatrist for Community Health Services in Hartford and worked at Mount Sinai Hospital in Hartford. She established a private practice in Kensington, and was on staff at New Britain General Hospital. Dr. Freiman was a driving force behind the establishment of Podiatry Clinics and New Britain Hospital. She also espoused the idea of team footcare for diabetics that eventually grew into the association between New Britain General Hospital and the Joslin Clinic in Boston.
In 1998, Dr. Freiman was awarded a Juris Doctor degree from the Quinnipac College School of Law. She intended to specialize in patient advocacy law.
Dr. Freiman s survived by: her husband, a daughter, Rose Marie Freiman; her parents Claudette and Francis Grubelich; and siblings Gail Jacobsen of Chicago, Dr. Francis Grubelich of Kalamazoo, MI., and Thomas Grubelich of Wethersfield.
The funeral services will be held Thursday, March 18, at 9 a.m. at Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Dominic Church, 1050 Flanders Road, Southington. Burial will follow in the Village Cemetery
in Wethersfield. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Wednesday (TODAY) from 6 to 9 p.m.

Anna F. Lavigne
PLAINVILLE - Anna (Ferrante). Lavigne, 61, of 7 Dallas Avenue Plainville, formerly of Bristol, wife of the late Richard A. Lavigne Sr. died Monday, March 16, 1999, at New Britain General Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Donato Sr. and Filomena (Piacquaddio) Ferrante.
Born on June 16, 1937 in Hanson, Mass., she moved to Connecticut in 1950 and worked for the Riverside Inn in Bristol for 10 years. She was also a kidney dialysis patient for 23 years.
She is survived by a son, Specialist E-4, Richard A. Lavigne Jr. of the U.S. Army of Plainville; a daughter, Donna Lavigne of Bristol; a brother, Donato Ferrante Jr. of Plainville; a grandmother, Nicole Fortin, many nieces and nephews, and also a special friend, Richard Duclos of Bristol. She was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph A. Ferrante and Cosmo Ferrante. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 18, 1999, at 9 a.m. from the O'Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave., Forestville, with a Mass at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Plainville. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Plainville. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Miriam A. Magrath
MERIDEN - Miriam A. Magrath, 85, wife of the former Meriden School Superintendent Dr. George Magrath, of 35 Ridgewood Road, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, in the MidState Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born in North Easton, Mass., April 10, 1913. A daughter of the late Harrie J. and Alice Cox Phipps. She was a resident of Meriden for the past 49 years. She was trained as a teacher and taught in the Perkins Institute for the Blind, in Mass prior to moving to Connecticut. Mrs. Magrath was a past president of the Meriden Women's Club. When her sons were young she was active in various school groups and had been a den mother for the Cub Scouts. She attended the First Congregational Church. In her leisure time she enjoyed craft making and painting.
Besides her husband she is survived by: two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Willene Magrath of Melbourne, Fla., and Douglas and Linda Magrath of Meriden; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Wilson of Jupiter, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, George Magrath Jr; two sisters, Harriet Skuse, and Gwendolyn Phipps. Funeral and burial will be private held for the convenience of her family. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St.
Mildred M. Alexander
JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Mildred Martha Alexander died March 3, 1999, at the Coccomo Health Center. Born Sept. 4, 1908, she was a charter member of the Daughters of America, and a devoted member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Jersey City, N.J., where she spent most of her life. She worked ad a Nurse until 1977 when she retired always giving loving care to all in need. She is the daughter of Caroline and Henry Kunoth, (Caroline died March 16, 1998, at the age of 108 also at Coccomo.)
She had one brother, Richard of Florida, who is now deceased; two children, Jean Greten of Meriden, and Fred Muhlenbeck of Greer, S.C., now deceased; a daughter-in-law, Marion of Greer, N.C., seven grandchildren, one deceased and 11 great-grandchildren.
Viewing hours on Friday, (TODAY) from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., at the Mack-Conte Funeral Home, 288 Central Ave., Jersey City, N.J. Funeral service will be Saturday, March 6, at 10:30 a.m. Interment at Hillside Cemetery, Lyndhurst, N.J.
Doris E. Barce
WALLINGFORD - Doris E. (Ingham) Barce, 84, formerly of Pilgrims Harbor, Wallingford, wife of the late Albert Barce, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at Friendship Manor, Pewee Valley, Ky. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late George and Mae (McCann) Ingham.
Mrs. Barce had lived in Middletown for 40 years and in Wallingford for the past 20 years; and was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Church, Rocky Hill, the Middletown Garden Club, and the Literary Club of Middletown, and was a former member of the Middletown District Nurse Association. She was a volunteer at Gaylord Hospital, Wallingford.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Andrew (Susan) Russell of Crestwood, Ky., and Mrs. Peter R. (Sherry) Pierson of Cromwell; and six grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at Haddam Center Cemetery, Haddam, Saturday, March 6, at 10 a.m. The Rev. William Veinot, rector of St. Andrew the Apostle Church, Rocky Hill, will officiate.
There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Alzheimer's Association, South Central Connecticut, Chapter, 2911 Dixwell Ave., Suite 104, Hamden, CT 06518, or the Charity of the donor's choice. Cheslara A. Chrostowski
SOUTHINGTON - Cheslara A. Chrostowski, 73, of 500 Pleasant St., died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at Bradley Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Marian Chrostowski.
Born Nov. 1, 1925, in Waterbury daughter of the late Beronislaw and Anna Grendizieswski. She was a registered nurse and graduated from Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing. She retired from Forestville Convalescent Home. She was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church.
She is survived by two sons, Marian Chrostowski and his wife Anne of Southington and Lawrence Chrostowski of New Haven; two grandchildren, Michael and Allen Chrostowski of Wisconsin and several nieces and nephews.
A private funeral will be held at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will be at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Della Vecchia Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
William J. Connaughton
MERIDEN - William J. Connaughton, 90, of 39 Shadycrest Road, husband of the late Margaret (Slack) Connaughton, died on Thursday, March 4, 1999, at Harbor Hill in Middletown after a brief illness. Born in Meriden on Feb. 12, 1909, he was the son of the late Patrick and Rose (Fox) Connaughton, and had resided in Meriden for his entire life. He was educated locally and had been employed by Meriden Gravure Co., for 40 years, retiring over 20 years ago. Mr. Connaughton was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Marines in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church.
Mr. Connaughton is survived by one sister-in-law, Mary Connaughton of Southington; six nieces, Geraldine Corriveau, Patricia McAllister, Roberta Heise-Sargent, Kathleen Flaherty, Rosemarie Costello, and Sarah Otis; and three nephews, John Dainton, Daniel Digiulio and Peter O'Loughlin. He was predeceased by eight brothers and sisters.
The funeral will be held on Monday, March 8, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 10 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial with military honors will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, March 7, from 4 to 7 p.m. Should friends desire, contributions in his memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Concetta A. Fiorello
SOUTHINGTON - Concetta A. (Corradino) Fiorello, 82, of 56 Village Road., died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at Bradley Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Albert J. Fiorello.
Born Feb. 8, 1917, in Meriden, daughter of the late Salvatore an Angelina (Annino) Corradino. She had been a parishioner of Mary Our Queen Church.
She is survived by a son, Joseph Fiorello of Southington; two daughters, Alvera Andolina and Nancy Berger, both of Plantsville; three brothers, Nicky Corrandino of Wallingford, Albert Corradino of Mechanicsville, Pa., and Robert Corradino of Meriden; three sisters, Rita Burgess of Durham, Mary Neigorski of Wallingford and Josephine Erico of West Haven; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Albert M. Fiorello Sr., and a brother Louis Corradino.
The funeral will be held Saturday, March 6, at 9:15 a.m. from the Della Vecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., to Mary Our Queen Church, at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday, March 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. Donations may be made in her memory to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450.
Grace Gardner
CHESHIRE - Grace Crowley Gardner, 95, of 515 Wood Hill Road, Cheshire, died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at the Muhlenberg Hospital Center, Bethlehem. She was the wife of the late Edward S. Gardner.
Mrs. Gardner, daughter of the late Thomas F. and Mary Rourke Crowley, was born in Derby, Nov. 24, 1903. She was a graduate of New Haven State Normal School. She was a former resident of Enfield, where she taught school in the Enfield School System for many years prior to retirement. She was a member of the National Education Association, the Connecticut Retired Teachers Association, and the Enfield Retired Teachers Association.
She leaves; twin daughters, Elizabeth Gardner Forro of Bethlehem, Pa., and Mary Gardner Millar of Wallingford; a son, Edward S. Gardner Jr., of Cheshire; a sister, Rose Crowley McDermott of West Haven; a brother Joseph L. Crowley of West Haven; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Mary K. Crowley and Elizabeth Crowley Huber and by two brothers, John Patrick Crowley, and Thomas F. Crowley.
Funeral from the Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm St., West Haven, Saturday, March 6, at 9 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at St. Thomas Becket Church, Cheshire, at 10 a.m. Burial in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Enfield. Friends may call Friday, March 5, from 4 to 7 p.m.
Edward Goffin
WALLINGFORD - Edward Goffin, 51, of Cardinal Drive, Wallingford, died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, in the MidState Medical Center, in Meriden.
Born in New Haven, Dec. 5, 1947, son of the late Abraham D. and Florence Seledensky Goffin, he was a Wallingford resident since 1958. He had worked in the printing industry for many years before his retirement in 1994.
Mr. Goffin is survived by four brothers, Jack Goffin, Barry Goffin, Howard Lee Goffin, and Stuart Goffin, all of Wallingford.
Funeral arrangements and burial in the In Memoriam Cemetery will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St, Ext, Wallingford.
