Muriel Epstein,
a Stamford resident, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001 at Stamford Hospital. She was 81.
She died of natural causes, according to her family.
Born Nov. 22, 1919, in New York City, she was a daughter of the late Herbert Sybley and Leona Levy Elgot.
Mrs. Epstein was a self-employed potter.
She is survived by her husband, Louis Epstein of Stamford; two step-sons, Gene Epstein of New York City and Mel Epstein of Cambridge, Mass.; two sisters, Florence Silver of Fishkill, N.Y., and Alice Spilker of Seattle; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. today, Feb. 9, 2001 at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford.
Burial will be private.
Robert M. Palmer a longtime resident of Cos Cob,
died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001 at Greenwich Hospital. He was 81.
He died of natural causes, according to his family.
Born June 26, 1919, in Cos Cob, he was a son of the late Milo and Mabel Palmer.
He graduated from Greenwich High School in 1938 and Packard Business College in 1940. He worked at Manufacturers Hanover Trust Co. in New York City for 43 years, retiring as an assistant vice president of the International Division in 1983. Mr. Palmer served in India as a cryptographer in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He earned the rank of staff sergeant.
Mr. Palmer was an avid fly fisherman, and he enjoyed camping at Housatonic Meadows State Park in Cornwall, where he developed many lifelong friendships.
Mr. Palmer was active in the Greenwich Council of the Boy Scouts of America Inc. He served 10 years as committee chairman of Troop 10 in Cos Cob. He was a member of both the Commissioner Staff Activities Committee and the Advancement Committee. Mr. Palmer was particularly proud of the many Boy Scout activities he organized at Seton Reservation and the boys he helped become Eagle Scouts.
Mr. Palmer was a brotherhood member of the Achewon Netapolis Lodge of the Order of the Arrow. He was recognized with the Greenwich Scouter's Award, Distinguished Commissioner Award, Silver Beaver Award and membership in the James West Society.
Mr. Palmer is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary Jensen Palmer of Cos Cob; a son, Mark A. Palmer of Bon Air, Va.; a daughter, Nancy I. Szygiel of Milford; a brother, Gary E. Palmer of Cos Cob; two grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 9, 2001 at Fred D. Knapp & Son funeral home, 267 Greenwich Ave., Greenwich.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001 at Diamond Hill United Methodist Church, 521 E. Putnam Ave., Cos Cob.
Burial is private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mr. Palmer's name to the Greenwich Council of the Boy Scouts of America Inc.
Deacon Emma Julia Atterberry-Reynolds,
a Stratford resident, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001 at home. She was 75.
She died of congestive heart failure, according to her family.
Born Sept. 9, 1925, in Denmark, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Julius and Anna Liza Bostic Atterberry Sr.
Deacon Reynolds moved to Stamford in 1926 and lived there until 1959 when she moved with her family to Stratford. As a resident of Stamford, she was a member of Union Baptist Church for 10 years, Faith Tabernacle Baptist Church for six years and Greater Faith Tabernacle Baptist Church for eight years. She then moved to Stratford and became a member of the First Baptist Church of Stratford for 43 years where she was consecrated first as a deaconess, then ordained as deacon Oct. 20.
Deacon Reynolds was also a member of the Nominating Ministry, the Progressive Ministry and the Women's Fellowship, and served as chairwoman of those ministries. She was also a Sunday school teacher; a member of the Senior Choir, the Pastoral Search Committee and the Pastoral Anniversary Committee; was the deacon for the Melodies Choir (Voices of F.B.C.); and was a participant in the Outreach Ministry.
She was a tutor for the Literacy Association and the Kennedy Center, and was a member of the Fairfield County Women's Fellowship.
She is survived by a daughter, Regina L. Steedley of Stratford; two brothers, Richard Atterberry and Julius Atterberry, both of Stratford; three sisters, Edna Jackson of New Haven, M. Mae Atterberry of Hyattsville, Md., and Alice Elliot of Bridgeport; a grandson; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel J. Reynolds; a brother, Eric Atterberry; and two sisters, Rebecca Porter and Anna C. Williams.
Calling hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001 at First Baptist Church of Stratford, 1301 Stratford Ave., Stratford.
A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. at the church, with Pastor William B. Sutton III officiating.
Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2001 at Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport.
Morton's Mortuary, 25 Margaret E. Morton Lane, Bridgeport, is handling arrangements.
Anthony L. Masso Sr.
Anthony "Tony" L. Masso Sr. of La Jolla, Calif., a Stamford native, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001 at Pacific Regent Health Care Center in La Jolla. He was 89.
Daniel J. Tiani, Sr.
Daniel Joseph Tiani, Sr., a lifelong New Canaan resident, died Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001 at Bridgeport Hospital. He was 73.
Graciela R. Aravena,
a longtime Stamford resident, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001 at St. Camillus Health Care Center in Stamford. She was 72.
She died of pulmonary arrest, according to her family.
Born Jan. 3, 1929, in Coronel, Chile, she was the daughter of the late Julio and Erna Becerra Marin.
Mrs. Aravena was a homemaker and a member of the First Stamford Christian Disciples of Christ Church. She was the founder and director of the Children's Corner in Concepcion, Chile. She also was an active member of the Methodist church in Chile.
She is survived by her husband, Victor Aravena of Stamford; a daughter, Silvia Aravena of Stamford; two sons, Victor Boris Aravena and Paul H. Aravena, both of Bethel; a brother, Julio Marin of Stamford; two sisters, Erna Montero of Stamford and Virginia Becker of East Lyme; and five grandchildren.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m., today, Feb. 11, 2001 at First Stamford Christian Disciples of Christ Church, Walton Place, Stamford.
Burial will be at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001 at Fairfield Memorial Park Cemetery, Stamford.

Egil Areklett
Egil Areklett, a longtime Darien resident, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001 at home. He was 81.
He died of leukemia, according to his family.
Born April 19, 1919, in Arekletten, Norway, he was the son of the late Erik and Gjertina Halsoy Areklett.
Mr. Areklett graduated with a degree in applied science and electrical engineering from Sunderland Technical College at the University of Durham in Durham, England. He taught physics, chemistry, and mathematics at Stavanger Technical School in Norway.
He later spent almost 40 years as an electrical engineer in Norway, Canada, and the United States.
He designed electrical and nuclear power stations with engineering firms such as Ebasco Services, Burns & Roe and Amman & Whitney.
He was involved in the Norwegian Seaman's Church and the Norwegian Engineering Society. In 1998, he was inducted into the Sons of Norway as a lifetime member.
He is survived by his wife, Adelinda Barbara Areklett of Darien; three sons, Robert J. Areklett of Redding, James B. Areklett of Clinton, Va., and William G. Areklett of Pepper Pike, Ohio; a brother, Leif Areklett of Norway; three sisters, Else Sleire and Borghild Daae, both of Norway, and Helga Talhaug of Sweden; and three grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a brother, Ingolf Areklett; and three sisters, Gudrun Areklett, Signe Areklett and Ivara Bruvik.
Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 12, 2001 at Edward Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road, Darien.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Ina Ellen Chapel, 884 Newfield Ave., Stamford, with the Rev. Scott Harris officiating.
Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery, Darien.
