Florence Witkovic
SOUTHINGTON — Florence Anderson Witkovic, 92, of Southington Avenue in Southington died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at Bradley Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Anton Witkovic.
Born June 28, 1906, in Southington, daughter of the late Frank and Josephine (Kelly) Anderson, she was a lifelong Southington resident. Florence was a member of St. Thomas Church.
She is survived by her children, Shirley Anderson Crosby, Anthony Witkovic, Margaret Rembis, Annamae Witkovic, and Beverly Florian; her brothers, Harold Anderson, Earl Anderson, Fred Anderson and Walter Anderson; and her sister, Dorothy Abetz. Florence is also survived by her four grandchildren, April Crosby, Billie Witkovic, Samantha Florian and Michael Piccirillo and two great-grandchildren, Charlotte Crosby and Cassondra Kirkland. She was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra Witkovic, and two brothers, Charles Anderson and Erwin Anderson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. with a Mass of Christian burial at St. Thomas Church. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Gertrude L. Baston
MERIDEN - Gertrude L. (Foster) Baston, 79, of 151 Woodland St., wife of Avon Baston, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at Westfield Care and Rehab Center.
Born in Baraboo, Wis., on April 10, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Pearl Siver Foster. She had been employed by the Yankee Silversmith Inn until her retirement in 1980.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Brian Baston of Huron, Ohio, and Barry and his wife, Janet, of Meriden; a daughter, Camille Baston of Meriden; five grandchildren, Michelle Usher of Bristol, Adrian Baston of Bristol, Aron Baston of Cromwell, Jessica Baston of New Britain, and Miranda Baston of Meriden; four great-grandchildren, Paige, Taylor, and Brooke Usher, and Jason Ventura; a sister, Mrs. Vernon (Phyllis) Albert of Baraboo, Wis. She was predeceased by two sisters and a brother.
The funeral will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Baraboo, Wis. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons, 88 E. Main St.

Roger P. Gildert
SOUTHINGTON - Roger P. Gildert, 63, of 466 Spring St., died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at Bradley Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Donna Gildert.
Born Sept. 16, 1935, in Presque Isle, Maine, he was the son of Helen (Brown) Gildert of New Britain and the late Arthur Gildert. He had retired from Papa's Dodge of New Britain.
Besides his mother, he is survived by three daughters, Tanya, and her husband, Kenneth Hammick of Bristol; a brother, Arthur Gildert Jr. of Plainville; two sisters, Joyce Pendell of Cromwell and Pauline Giguere of Massachusetts; three grandchildren, Rachel Lenzi, Melissa and Samantha Hammick; a special friend, Helen Topa, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Ricki A. Gildert, and a brother, Cecile Gildert.
A service will be held Sunday at 5 p.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Friends and family are invited to a graveside service at Oak Hill Cemetery, Wednesday at 9 a.m. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Donations may be made in his memory to the American Diabetes Association, Connecticut Affiliate, Ind., 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT 06450.

Andrea M. Keyes
MERIDEN - Andrea M. Keyes, 59, died suddenly on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, at Hartford Hospital.
Born in Meriden, Sept. 20, 1939, she was the daughter of Stephen Gudelski of Meriden, former 30-year owner of the Quality Donut Bakery, and the late Genevieve Caturia Gudelski. Mrs. Keyes graduated from Meriden High School and was employed by the former Veterans Memorial Medical Center for 30 years and more recently at the MidState Medical Center. She was a parishioner of St. Laurent Church.
She is survived by a son, Shawn Keyes of Meriden; a sister, Regina Gosselin of Florida; two brothers, Leonard Gudelski of Ramsey, N.J., and Martin Gudelski of Meriden; and also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 10 a.m. in St. Laurent Church. Burial will be in St. Laurent Cemetery, South Meriden. Friends may call at the funeral home today (FRIDAY) from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Thomas W. Norris
WALLINGFORD - Thomas W. Norris, 83, of Wallingford, and Old Lyme, formerly of Wethersfield, beloved husband for 58 years of Mary (Booth) Norris died Thursday, Jan. 28, at the UCONN Health Center, Farmington.
Born in East Hartford, he was the son of the late Frederick W. and Clara (Beck) Norris and lived in Wethersfield from 1926 until he moved to Wallingford in 1988. Prior to his retirement in 1980 he was the Chief Executive Officer of Tracy, Robinson and Williams in Hartford where he was employed for 40 years. He was past president of the New England Distributors Association and served on the committee of the National Distributors Association. He was a graduate of Wethersfield High School and Morse College, Hartford. He was a member of Trinity Parish, Wethersfield and a member of the Wethersfield Country Club for 36 years. He was a past president of the Wethersfield Rotary Club, Past Master of Hospitality Lodge 128 A.F. and A.M. Wethersfield, 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Sphinx Temple and a member and Director of the Order of Shrine.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Linda Taylor of Shrewsbury, Mass., Leslie Gray of Hampton, N.H.; a son, Thomas "Chip" W. Norris Jr. of Wethersfield; two sisters, Helen McCullough of Lyme and Marjorie Harris of Wethersfield; nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at noon in Trinity Episcopal Church, 300 Main St., Wethersfield, with the Rev. John A. Rogers Jr. officiating.
Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Parish, Wethersfield, CT 06109. A memorial service will be held at a time to be announced at Ashlar Village, Wallingford. The James T. Pratt Funeral Service, Wethersfield, is in charge of arrangements.

Martine Wedseltoft
WALLINGFORD - Martine Wedseltoft, 91, of the Masonic Geriatric Healthcare Center, formerly of Thomaston, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999. She was the wife of the late Erik Wedseltoft.
She is survived by a niece, Megin Miller of Pebble Beach, Calif., and was predeceased by a brother, Ewald Hanke.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Masonic Home Chapel, Masonic Avenue, Wallingford. Burial will be private. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St., is in charge of arrangements.

Ellen D. Beecher
WALLINGFORD - Ellen Dorothy Edberg Beecher, 85, of Kondracki Lane, Wallingford, formerly of Cheshire and Hamden, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at the Brook Hollow Health Care Center in Wallingford. She was the wife of the late John C. Beecher.
Born in New Haven, May 21, 1913, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Theresa Wustrack Edberg and was a Hamden resident for many years and a Cheshire resident for 15 years until moving to Wallingford.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda E. Beecher of Hamden and Sharon L. and Vincent P. Jankowski of Newington; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert J. and Mary Ann Beecher of Ansonia and John R. "Jack" and Barbara A. Beecher of Wallingford; her grandchildren and their spouses, Leigh Jankowski Grande and her husband, Matt, of Ansonia, Cindy Beecher Cummings and her husband, Doug, of Massachusetts, Jim and Rob Beecher of Ansonia, Vinny Jankowski of Newington and John F. Beecher of Wallingford; a great-grandchild Anastasha Atwood of West Haven; a brother, Arthur Robert Edberg of Florida; a brother, Arthur Robert Edberg of Florida, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Mildred Poirot.
Her family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Friday (TODAY) from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 65 N. Main St., Wallingford, with the Rev. Brendan McCormick officiating. Interment will be in Hamden Plains Cemetery in Hamden. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the Residents Recreation Fund, c/o Brook Hollow Health Care Center, 55 Kondracki Lane, Wallingford, CT 06492.

Mary J. Cyphers
MERIDEN - Mary Jeanette Cyphers, 75, of 18 Rockledge Drive, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at Meriden Nursing and Rehab Center. She was the wife of the late Raymond E. Cyphers.
She was born in Fairfield, March 3, 1923, the daughter of the late James and Mary (Slezsak) Erdely. She was a graduate of Fairfield High School and was a member of First United Methodist Church and Unit 4 of the church.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond A. and Betty Cyphers of Meriden; a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela L. and Stephen J. Hanson of Meriden; two grandsons, James A. Cyphers of Meriden and Kevin Hanson and his wife, Brenda Hanson of Meriden; one great-granddaughter, Tessa Marie Cyphers of Wallingford; a sister, Helen Tortorella of Meriden; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a stepbrother, Joseph Nemeth.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. The Rev. Rob Reiner will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call one hour prior to the services.

William H. Hertweck
MERIDEN - William H. Hertweck, 78, formerly of 472 Broad St., died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at the Masonic Geriatric Healthcare Center in Wallingford. He was predeceased by his beloved first wife, Gladys Forster Hertweck.
He was born in Meriden, Nov. 1, 1920, the son of the late Harry and Ione Rehm Hertweck. He was a graduate of Meriden High School and was employed by the Miller Co. and then as a project engineer at the C.N. Flagg Co., retiring in 1987. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, serving as a deacon and also on the church council. He was a member of Masonic Center Lodge 97, AF&AM. He was also a council member of Boy Scout Troop 6. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He volunteered at Gaylord Hospital and at the Masonic Geriatric Healthcare Center.
He is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Kolasinski of Meriden; a son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Kim Hertweck of Chester; four grandchildren, Seth Kolasinski and Eric Kolasinski, both of Meriden, and Alison and Lucas Hertweck, both of Chester; a sister, Louise Randall of West Haven; several cousins and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his second wife, Virginia Bowen Hertweck of Meriden.
The funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 164 Hanover St., Meriden. The Rev. Perry L. Beaver and Chaplain Anne Baltzell will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Hertweck's memory may be made to the Gladys F. Hertweck Memorial Fund for Families in Need, c/o Immanuel Lutheran Church, 164 Hanover St., Meriden, CT 06451, or to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden.

James V. Padula
WALLINGFORD - James V. Padula, 94, of Marc Drive, formerly of Meadow Street, husband of Jennie Tedoldi Padula, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at MidState Medical Center.
Jim was born in Marlborough, Mass., Sept. 18, 1904, son of the late Joseph and Rose Rosaria Padula, and had been a Wallingford resident since 1945. A sales representative for many years, he had also been proprietor of the former Mabel's Luncheonette in Wallingford for many years. He was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church. He was also a life member of the Wallingford Lodge of Elks No. 1365, and had been a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, No. 1820, and the St. Pierre Club.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his step-daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lou and Joseph F. Downing of Wallingford; four granddaughters, Natalie Johnson of Parsippany, N.J., Joanne Daviau of Wallingford, Roberta Gioffre of Stevensville, Md., and Dr. Donna Anderson of Albany, N.Y.; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Rose Padula of Marlborough, Mass.; three brothers, Charles Padula and John Padula, both of Marlborough, and Frank Padula of Nottingham, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Mabel Padula, and his grandson, William L. Downing.
His family will receive relatives and friends at The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., Wallingford, Friday (TODAY) from 4 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from The Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church, where a mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private in St. John Cemetery. Gifts in his memory may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, 2911 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, CT 06518.
