Carmen A. Marino
SOUTHINGTON - Carmine A. Marino, died unexpectedly, Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999. He was 61. Carmine was the husband of Marilyn L. Marino and the son of Ann and Frank Desimone.
Carmine was born in Waterbury on March 25, 1937. He attended Barnard School and Leavenworth High School. He apprenticed as a machinist at American Brass Co. and later was salesman for E. M. Bensen Co. in Meriden. Since 1973, Carmine was the owner and President of C.D. Proctor Inc. in Thomaston. He was also a co-owner of the Cesco Brass Co.
Carmine was an aid boater in Long Island Sound and New England. His boat "Aeris" was well recognized in area seaports.
Carmine is survived by all his children, Pamela Marino Gau, Kenneth Marino, Keith Marino, Ronald Marino and also Richard Martin, Scott Martin, Beth Scarpati and Lois Conklin; his sister, Regina Marino Chiarella; and a brother Michael Marino of Naples, Fla., and his 15 grandchildren who knew him as "Paparino."
The funeral will be held Tuesday Feb. 9 ( TODAY) at 9:45 from the Della Vecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., to Joseph's Church in Meriden at 10:30 a.m. for a Mass where Carmine will be remembered. He will be buried at St. Thomas Cemetery
in Southington. Contributions may be made in Carmine's memory to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, CT, 06450, or a charity of the donor's choice.
Margaret A. Schaefer
EASTHAM, Mass. - Margaret (Andrews) Schaefer, 92, of 3100 State Highway Route 6, Eastham, Mass., wife of the late Herbert S. Schaefer, died at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis. Born in Wallingford, she was the daughter of the late Frank S. and Henrietta (Backes) Andrews.
She was a member of the Church of the Holy Trinity, Middletown, Conn.
She is survived by one son, Edward P. Schaefer of Eastham; two daughters, MaryLea Sanderson of Eastham and Carol Bielefield of Franconia, N.H.; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara A. Schaefer.
Funeral services will be held at the Church of the Holy Trinity Chapel, 381 Main St., Middletown, Thursday (Feb. 11th) at 10 a.m.
The Rev. Margaret H. Minnick, rector, will officiate and interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middletown.
Friends may call at Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church St., Middletown, on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
Lorraine T. Zeldon
SOUTHINGTON - Lorraine T. Zeldon of Milldale lost her battle against cancer on Sunday Feb. 7, 1999. She was the wife of Leroy J. Zeldon.
On March 27, 1928, she was one of several children born to Michael and Mary Leary of a Weymouth, Mass. She was also the foster daughter of the late William and Madeline Hayes of New Britain.
Lorraine was a past treasurer of Milldale School PTA; active in Cub Scouts, Catechism teacher, blood drives; a member of the Calendar House, AARP, and the St. Aloysius Ladies Guild.
Lorraine will be dearly missed by her husband and her children, Elizabeth Harwood and her husband, Thomas of Plantsville, Michael Zeldon and his wife Margaret of Bristol, Daniel Zeldon of Milldale, Mary Kelley and her husband, Dean, of Southington, her grandchildren, Brian and Kevin Harwood of Plantsville, Michelle Clermont of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; her brother Ronald Leary of Hanover, Mass.; her sister-in-law Marion Favara of Newington; a sister, Mary Pelletier and her husband Robert of Norwalk; many nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
A Mass will be celebrated Wednesday Feb. 10, 1999, 9 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church. Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be this evening 4 to 8 p.m. at the Della Vecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contributions can be made to the charity of the donors choice.
Francis M. Calabro Sr.
WATERBURY - Francis M. Calabro Sr., 56, of 43 Peach Orchard road, died Monday, May 3, 1999, at Abbott Terrance Health Care Facility. He was the widower of Joann (Russolillo) Calabro.
Mr. Calabro was born in Waterbury, Dec. 10, 1942, son of Maria (Rinaldi) Calabro of Waterbury and the malte Rocco Calabro. He was a former member of the Navy Sea Bee Construction Battallion. He was a chief carpenter for CL&P for 32 years. He was a member of the Local 420 I.B.E.W.
Beside his mother he leaves, two sons, Francis M. Calabro Jr. of Wolcott and Michael C. Calabro of Waterbury; two sisters, Rosemary Leggett of Southington and Antoinette Calabro of Waterbury; and a grandson Christopher M. Calabro of Wolcott.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 8:45 a.m. from Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway to Our Lady of Lourdes Church for a Mass at 9:30 a.m. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours, Wednesday from 8 to 8:45 a.m.
Frieda C. Goldberg
WEST HAVEN - Frieda C. Goldberg, 81, of 200 Oak St., wife of the late Benjamin Goldberg, died at the Hospital of St. Raphael on May 2. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Molly Buchwalter Lichtblau.
Mrs. Goldberg is survived by a loving, mother and mother-in-law of Rochelle; and Edward Cyr of Orange; and David and Mary Goldberg of Wallingford; a dear sister of David Light of New York, and Fred Light of Calif.; also by 10 cherished grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services at the Robert E. Shure Funeral Home, 543 George St., New Haven, Tuesday (TODAY) at 11 a.m. with interment services to follow in the Independent Vilner Lodge Cemetery, Victor St., East Haven. Memorial contributions may be sent to the charity of ones choice. A period of mourning will be observed at 828 North Greenbrier Drive, Orange, thru Wednesday.
Madeline Holmes
SOUTHINGTON - Madeline "Sue" (Sousa) Holmes, died Friday, April 30, 1999, at her home after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Manuel and Charlotte Sousa. She graduated from R.I.T. School of Business in Rochester, N.Y. She was a U.S. Marine Corp. veteran stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC. After her tour of duty (World War II) she lived on Greylock Mountain, in Massachusetts for two seasons maintaining the hiking lodge at the summit. She owned and operated the Southington Health Salon for 30 years. In addition she operated the Holmes House of Gifts and enjoyed activities such as camping, beachcombing, arts and crafts, gardening, sewing and was an accomplished artist. She supported many environmental, educational and community organizations throughout her life. She was much loved by many and she will be surely missed.
She is survived by: two daughters, Jennifer Holmes-Beker, and Lynn Holmes; sons-in-law, Dirk Beker and Frank Baraff; a sister, Julie Hicks of Oceanside, Calif.; a lifelong friend and nephew, John Freitas of Rochester, N.Y.; a granddaughter, Crissa Baraff, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James A. Holmes.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, May 5, at 11 a.m. at the Plantsville Congregational Church. There are no calling hours. In memory of Madeline, donations of time or money may be made to a local youth art association or community art centers of the donors choice. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the family plot in Rochester, N.Y. Plantsville Memorial Funeral has charge of the arrangements.
John McGraw Jr.
SOUTHINGTON - John McGraw Jr., 69, of John Street in Southington died Monday, May 3, 1999, at her home. He was the husband of the late Marjorie (Whittaker) McGraw. Born Sept. 16, 1929, in Fairfield, Maine, son of the late John and Lettie (Brown) McGraw, he was a Southington resident for over 30 years. John was a US Army veteran in which he was an Operating Engineer in Germany. He worked at Pratt & Whitney until retiring in 1991. He was also and avid outdoorsman. Boyd's Lake in Maine held a very special place in his life, which he loved to share with his family.
He is survived by six daughters and three sons-in-law, Darlene Corcanges, Brenda and Michael McCarty Sr., Barbara and William R. McKay Sr., all of Southington, Marjorie Steinnagel of Plainville, Louise Osgood of Meriden and Marilyn and Garold Benson of Groton; a brother, Howard McGraw of East Corinth, Maine; two sisters, Pauline Roycroft of Naples, Maine and Joyce LeBlanc of Adams Mass; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and four very special people, Michael Caldwell, Mark Caldwell, Tamara Bickford, and Tracey Fortin.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church on Thursday, May 6 at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends and family may call at Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main Street, Plantsville on Wednesday, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Victor L Ollino
WALLINGFORD - Victor L. Ollino, 83, of Simpson Avenue, Wallingford, died Monday, May 3, 1999 at Meriden Center.
Mr. Ollino was born in Wallingford, May 14, 1915, a son of the late Lorenzo and Emilia Aschiero Ollino, was raised in Asti, Italy, and at the age of 16 returned to Wallingford, where he had resided for the past 67 years. He had been the plant maintenance supervisor at Wallace Silversmiths for many years until his retirement in 1978, and was also a well known carpenter and boat builder. He was an avid fisherman, a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church, and had been a member of the Libero Pensiero Society.
He is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis L. and Joseph D. Freschi of Wallingford, and Emily Nancy and Eugene Sullivan of New Jersey; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lucia Rovagna of San Marzanotto, Asti Italy; a brother, Carlo Ollino of Asti, Italy; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Elsie Pagni Ollino, and his grandson, Patrick J. Sullivan.
His family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford , Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:10 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery.
Adelaide S. Censak
NEWINGTON — Adelaide "Adele" (Scarfe) Censak, 56, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, at New Britain General Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Willard M. Censak.
Born and raised in New Britain, a daughter of Anna V. (Gianninoto) Scarfe of New Britain and the late Anthony Scarfe, Mrs. Censak was a Newington resident for the past 24 years. She was a member of Church of the Holy Spirit in Newington. She graduated from New Britain High School and from Central Connecticut State University with a bachelor’s and master’s degree. After 31 years as a first-grade teacher, she retired from DiLoreto School in New Britain.
Besides her husband and mother, she leaves a brother and sister-in-law, Sebastian F. and Norma C. Scarfe, of Kensington; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Ted Rambis of Southington, Patricia and Robert Censak of Endwell, N.Y., Christine and Ronald Robinson of Dayville; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Dr. James A. Scarfe.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 9 a.m. from the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at Church of the Holy Spirit. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery
in New Britain. Relatives and friends are invited to call Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Newington Memorial. Memorial donations may be made to George Bray Cancer Center, New Britain General Hospital, 100 Grand St., New Britain, CT 06050.
