Howard H. Brechlin
MERIDEN - Howard Henry Brechlin, 83, died Tuesday , Feb. 9, 1999, at his residence. He was the beloved husband of Ella Baudner Brechlin.
He was born in Meriden, May 4, 1915, the son of the late Henry Otto and Minnie Abeling Brechlin. He was a graduate of Meriden High School, class of 1933, and Morse Business School. He was a lifelong resident of Meriden. He was an accountant at Phoenix Insurance Co. and then at Travelers Insurance Co., in Hartford, until his retirement in 1977. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where he served as a past treasurer and a past member of the Cemetery board. He was a member of the Christian Fellowship at St. John and the Travelers' Retiree's Group.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Stephen Hoverman of Warwick, N.Y., and Jane and Steve Olesin of Acton, Mass., four grandchildren; David Hoverman of Beaumont, Calif., Carrie Hoverman, Michael Hoverman and Mathew Hoverman, all of Warwick, N.Y.; a niece, Alice Baudner of Longboat Key, Fla.; a nephew; Paul Baudner of New Canaan; and many cousins.
Funerals services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 520 Paddock Ave., Meriden. The Rev. Carl A. Krueger will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Mr. Brechlin's memory may be made to St. John Church, 520 Paddock Ave., Meriden, CT 06450.

William A. Day
MERIDEN - William A. Day Sr., 81, of 33 Cone Ave., formerly of 128 Maple St., husband of the late Ann Monteleone Day, died Tuesday evening Feb. 9, 1999, in the Coccomo Memorial. He was born in Red Hook, N.Y., March 23, 1917, a son of the late Lewis and Grace Day, he was a resident of Meriden for many years. He retired from the International Silver Co., in 1985, after 33 years. He had worked in factories H, and E. And the new facility on Research Parkway. He was a U.S. entry into the war. He went on to serve in the North Africa and Italian campaigns. He was a man of many interests and talents he enjoyed auto mechanics, reading, music and most specially gardening. He was a parishioner of Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Church.
He is survived by two sons, and daughters-in-law, William A. and Jan Day Jr., Anthony and Jo Day, two daughters and a son-in-law; Ann and Robert Carabetta and Elizabeth Day, and her finance, Christopher Summers, all of Meriden; four grandchildren; Lori Carabetta, Stephanie Day-Bard, Robert Carabetta and Anthony Day Jr., a great-granddaughter ; Rebecca Ann Bard, as one of 11 great-grand children; and several nieces and nephews.
A gathering for his funeral Liturgy will begin Friday, Feb. 12, at 8:15 a.m. in The Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St., with procession to Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel Church for 9 a.m.. He will be buried with military honors in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call in the funeral home (TODAY), from 4 to 8 p.m.

Anna Thomasino
SOUTHINGTON - Anna (Bruzy) Thomasino, 89, of 96 Germania St., died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at Southington Care Center. She was the wife of the late Vito "Skeetes" Thomasino.
Born July 25, 1909, in Meriden, daughter of the late John and Alice Bruzy. She had retired from Pratt & Whitney. Mrs. Thomasino had been a parishioner of St. Thomas Church and had been a volunteer at Southington Care Center.
She is survived by a son, William Thomasino of Marlborough, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers; Chester, Alex and Edward Bruzy , and two sisters; Rose Rieman and Janice Bowers.
The funeral will be held Friday 9:45 a.m., from the Della Vecchia Funeral, 211 N. Main St., to St. Thomas Church 10:30 a.m., Burial will be at St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. Donations may be made in her memory to the Southington Care Center, 45 Meriden Ave., Southington, CT 06489.

Edward V. Vargas
MERIDEN - Edward V. Vargas, 10, of 168 Liberty St., son of Vidal and Esmeralda (Perez) Vargas, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at Connecticut Children's Hospital in Hartford after a brief illness. Born in Meriden on Oct. 3, 1988, he was a fifth-grade student at Roger Sherman School in Meriden, and he was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church.
Besides his parents, he is survived by one brother, Erik Vargas of Meriden; his paternal grandparents, Juan and Elna Vargas of Meriden; his maternal grandmother, Gregoria Avilez of Aguada, Puerto Rico; one uncle, Juan Vargas Jr. of Meriden; two aunts, Evelyn Vargas and Myra Vargas, both of Meriden; his god mother, Yvette Vargas of Aguada, Puerto Rico; and by several cousins.
The funeral will be held in Aguada, Puerto Rico, and burial will be in Municipal Cemetery in Aguada. Friends may call at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden, on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Sally L. Visockis
SOUTHINGTON - Sally L. Youngs Visockis, 47, of Southington, died Wednesday Feb. 10, 1999, at St. Raphaels Hospital in New Haven after a 19-year battle with cancer. She was the wife of Victor J. Visockis Jr. Born April 18, 1951, in Toledo, Ohio, daughter of the late Robert and Grace (VanNess) Youngs, she graduated from the Toledo Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1972. For 10 years, she had been a school nurse at Southington High School before becoming the school nurse at St. Thomas School a year ago. Sally was a member of the Association of School Nurses and was very active in the First Congregational Church.
Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Victor A. Visockis and Peter J.Visockis, both of Southington, two brothers; Lawrence Youngs of Hillsdale, Mich., and William Youngs of Pioneer, Mich.; two sisters; Susan L. Youngs of Meriden and Sandra L. Gall of Sylvania, Ohio. She is also survived by her mother- and father-in-law; Rosemary and Victor Visockis, both of Prospect, plus two nephews and a niece. A memorial service will be held Feb. 27, at 10 a.m. at the Congregational Church of Southington, followed by a gathering in the church hall. Donations in memory of Sally may be made to the Sally L. Visockis Scholarship Fund, c/o Southington Savings Bank, 121 Main St., Southington, CT 06489. The scholarship will be awarded to a Southington High student pursuing an education in medicine. Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

George F. Bixby
MERIDEN - George Fredrick Bixby of 104 Veteran St., Meriden, died Friday, Feb. 5,1999 at MidState Medical Center.
He was born in Hackensack, N.J., the son of the late George Edward and Helen Horton Bixby. He attended Fairleigh Dickinson University and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He had resided in Meriden for the past 15 years and was an artist and writer.
He is survived by his beloved financee, Helen Trifilo, of Meriden; a sister, Marie Conrad of Lakewood, N.J., and several nieces.
A memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at 9:15 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will be in the State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown with full military honors. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beecher and Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, CT.
He was born for a higher destiny than that of earth. There is a realm where the rainbow never fades, where the stars will be spread before him, like islands that slumber on the ocean, and where beings that pass before him will stay in his presence forever.

Mary D'Annolfo
WEST HARTFORD - Mary (Sottile) D'Annolfo, 90, of West Hartford, widow of Thomas D'Annolfo died Monday Feb. 8, 1999, at Hartford Hospital. Born in Barre, Mass., she lived in West Hartford for 50 years. She was a member of St. Helena's Church, West Hartford, and a member of the Elmwood Community Center.
Mrs. D'Annolfo leaves three sons, Salvatore J. D'Annolfo of West Hartford, Thomas A. D'Annolfo of Meriden, and Kenneth J. D'Annolfo of Farmington; a sister, Rose DelMastro of West Hartford; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers and a sister.
The funeral procession will be Thursday Feb. 11, 9 a.m. from Sheehan Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. in St. Helena's Church. Burial will be in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Calling hours will be Wednesday Feb. 10, 1999, 5 to 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home.

Geraldine M. Gervais
MERIDEN - Geraldine M. Gervais, 68, of 253 Prospect Ave., Meriden, wife of Ralph R. Gervais, died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at Sheriden Woods Health Care Center in Bristol after a lengthy illness.
Born in Meriden, Aug. 15, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Florence (Bloxham) Magowan. She was a graduate of Meriden High School and was a lifelong resident. Mrs. Gervais was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church and a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Auxilliary.
Besides her husband, Ralph, she is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Maureen and Gary Secula of Meriden, and Michele Gervais of Middletown; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St., and at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday (TODAY) from 4 to 7 p.m. Should friends desire, contributions in her memory may be made to St. Joseph Church, 22 Goodwill Ave., Meriden, CT 06451.

Genevieve H. Gormley
MERIDEN - Genevieve Hanna Gormley, 74, formerly of 55 Willow St., died Sunday Feb. 7, at the Brook Health Care Center in Wallingford.
She was born in Meriden, June 12, 1924, a daughter of the late Harry A. and Louise S. Pavase Gormley.
She is survived by a sister, Marie Bradley of Meriden; a brother Edward Gormley of South Meriden; and several nieces and nephews and a friend Gloria Brooks. She was predeceased by a brother, William Gormley.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the directions of the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home 48 Cook Ave., Meriden, CT

Arthur W. Kathan Jr.
MERIDEN - Arthur Warner Kathan Jr., 76, of 1900 N. Broad St., died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Mr. Kathan was born Jan. 18, 1923, in New Haven, son of the late Arthur Warner and Madeline (Lapointe) Kathan. He worked as a welder for Cuno Engineering in Meriden until he retired and also taught welding at Goodwin Technical School. He was Marine veteran of World Was II, serving in Guadalcanal, and was a member of VFW Post 591 in Wallingford. He was a member of Prospect Congregational Church and the Connecticut Triumph Registry. For many years he played in a country western band.
He leaves a son, Glenn Kathan of Oklahoma; two daughters, Madeline Kathan Laviana of Waterbury and Patrice Kathan Gromen of Meriden; two half brothers, Boardman Kathan and Charles Kathan of Prospect; a sister, Dorothy Small Charon of Texas ; and a half sister, Priscilla Kathan of New Haven; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday from Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Road, Route 69, to Prospect Congregational Church for services at 11. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery at the family's convenience. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Connecticut, 920 Farmington Ave, West Hartford, CT 06107.

Marie A. LeGendre
WALLINGFORD - Marie A. LeGendre mother of Claire T. (Mrs. Roland) St. Pierre, of 20 Grieb Road, Wallingford, died Feb. 7, 1999, at the Bradley Home, Meriden.
Her family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford., Tuesday (TODAY) from 4 until 8 p.m. Funerals services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church, Wallingford, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private. Gifts in her memory may be sent to the Bradley Home, 320 Colony St., Meriden, CT 06451.
