Betty C. Tulp
GUILFORD — Betty C. Tulp, 67, of 1 Boston Terrace, died July 9, 1998, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. She was the wife of the late John F. Tulp.
Born Feb. 1, 1931, she was the daughter of the late John and Evelyn Mannix Collins. She lived in Guilford for the past three and one-half years, moving from Milford. She was a communicant of St. George Church in Guilford. She retired from Connecticut Blue Cross as a claims processor. She was active in both Girl and Boy Scout programs in the area.
She is survived by a son, Steven Tulp of Moreno Valley, Calif.; a daughter, Patricia Griffin of Meriden; a sister, Marge Garthwaite of Guilford; five grandchildren, Ryan, Travis and Luke Griffin and John and Alana Tulp.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. George Church Hall, Whitfield Street, Guilford. Burial will be private. Contributions in her name may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 61 Burban Drive, Branford, CT 06405. Arrangements are under the direction of the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church St., Guilford.
Cheryl A. Brooke
SOUTHINGTON — Cheryl Ann Brooke, 51, of 5 Craig Ave., died Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was the wife of Alan Brooke.
She was born in Meriden, Nov. 21, 1946, a daughter of Barbara Flagg Hartenstein of Meriden and the late Albert Hartenstein. She had worked at the Record-Journal and later at the New Britain Machine Company. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Meriden, where she had been active in the Ladies Society.
Besides her husband and mother, she is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Gareth and Lorna Raye Hartenstein of Meriden, and a niece, Linsey Rose Hartenstein of Meriden.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 17, at 11 a.m. at the Hubbard Chapel at Walnut Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Robert Prescott-Ezickson will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Edward J. Holmes Sr.
MERIDEN — Edward J. Holmes Sr., 78, of 22 Birdsey Ave., husband of Anne (Pontolillo) Holmes, died on Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at Coccomo Memorial Health Care Center.
He was born in Meriden on Jan. 3, 1920, son of the late John and Esther (Kelly) Holmes. He was educated in local schools and was a lifelong resident of Meriden. Mr. Holmes was self-employed as owner/operator of the Black Pond Boat House for 43 years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army with the rank of sergeant. Edward was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church and a lifetime member of the Wallingford Rod & Gun Club.
Ed Holmes was a friend and confidant to many of the fishermen who frequented Black Pond and his Black Pond Boat Livery on the shore of his favorite lake. Eddie knew just where the big fish were hiding, and what they were feeding on.
Anyone stopping by Black Pond to see Eddie Holmes and find out how the fishing was never went away empty handed. Ed was a wealth of fishing information, and he just loved to share his knowledge with anyone willing to listen.
It was Ed Holmes and his hospitality that made Black Pond such a favorite among many Connecticut sportsmen — the boats that he rented were just an added attraction. Ed Holmes loved the outdoors and everything that went with it. His passing will leave a void in the hearts of all who knew him, and without Ed Holmes to keep a watchful eye on it — Black Pond will never be the same.
Besides his wife, Anne, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Joel Choiniere of Meriden; a son and daughter-in-law, Edward J. Jr. and Gloria Holmes of Meriden; three grandchildren, Wesley Holmes, Karen Greenbacker and Brian Choiniere; four great-grandchildren, Kelly and Tyler Greenbacker, and Shelbey and Jordan Choiniere; a sister, Marian Conway of Hebron; and by several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on Friday at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 10 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial with military honors will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Mary Kane
SOUTHINGTON — Mary Zoufaly Kane, 83, formerly of 485 West St., and more recently, Coach Drive in Spring Lake Village, died Monday, July 13, 1998, in Florida. She was the wife of Col. Harold E. Kane, USAF, Ret.
Born in Southington, May 6, 1915, daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Keltonic) Zoufaly, she had attended Southington schools. She had been employed as a legal secretary for many years at the office of the late Attorney Joseph Thalberg. For 23 years she had accompanied her husband throughout his military career at bases in the United States and Europe. While stationed at Offutt Air Force Base, Mary was praised by Cinc of SAC for the important role the wives played in supporting their husbands' work and allowing them to work long hours and spend many hours absent while on temporary duty during the critical Cold War. She was a devoted wife and mother and her accomplishments will be remembered. Mary was a member of St. Thomas Church, St. Thomas Ladies Guild and Bradley Memorial Auxiliary.
Besides her husband, Harold, she leaves a son, Dennis E. Kane, and a daughter, Barbara K. DelGrego, both of Southington; a granddaughter, Erin Kane; a grandson, Brian Kane; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 16, at 8 a.m. at Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 S. Main St., Plantsville, with a Mass of Christian burial at St. Thomas Church at 8:45 a.m. Friends and family may call on Wednesday, July 15, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Gedeon A. LaMontagne
MIDDLETOWN — Gedeon A. "Frenchy" LaMontagne, 68, of Cynthia Lane, husband of the late Mary (Bednarz) LaMontagne, died Monday, July 13, 1998, at the New Britain General Hospital.
Born in Springfield, Mass., he was the son of the late Louis and Dorothy (Bean) LaMontagne Sr. He was retired from the U.S. Army after 28 years serving in the Cold War in Europe and the Korean Conflict as well as the Vietnam War. He served honorably in the Elite Forces of the U.S. Army for the U.S.A. in Europe, ATRP 51st SQDN. He was retired from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, Middletown, where he was employed as a machinist. He was the current commander of the VFW Post 583 in Middletown, a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 72 in Southington, an honorary deputy sheriff for Middlesex County, a sustained member of New England Association of Chiefs of Police, an honorary Chief of the U.S. Navy, a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 1547, Polish Falcons of America Nest 519, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 681, and the National Rifle Association.
He is survived by two daughters, Denise Latham and Joyce Micale, both of Middletown; two brothers, his twin, Mr. Louis J. LaMontagne Jr. of Meriden and Mr. Philip LaMontagne of Sumnter, S.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Gerald (Vi) Athorne of Fountain Inn, S.C., and Mrs. James (Patricia) Rock of Southington; grandchildren, Nicolle Micale and Tyler Latham of Middletown; as well as a special "son," Al Pasek; also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Mr. Tancrede LaMontagne.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 17, at 8:15 a.m. from the Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown, followed by a 9 a.m. funeral liturgy in St. Mary Church in Middletown. Burial will be in the State Veterans Cemetery
in Middletown. Friends may call at the Biega Funeral Home on Thursday, July 16, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Francis Parenteau
MERIDEN — Francis "Ernie" Parenteau, 84, died Monday, July 13, 1998, at the Veterans Hospital in Rocky Hill.
He was born in Brockton, Mass., Oct. 4, 1913, son of the late Henry and Selina (Grenon) Parenteau. He was a World War II Army veteran, having served in the Pacific, in ground communications, and achieved the rank of master sergeant. A Meriden resident most of his life, he was employed at the International Silver Co. in Meriden and later at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in North Haven until his retirement in 1976.
He will forever be remembered by his small family, his sister, Irene M. Sammito of Meriden; and his nephew, George E. Sammito and his wife, Rebecca Sammito, of Middletown.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown. Interment, with military honors, will be in the State Veterans Cemetery
in Middletown. Friends may call at the Biega Funeral Home Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m.
Francis E. Savoie
MERIDEN — Francis "Frank" E. Savoie, 85, of Bee Street, died Monday, July 13, 1998, at the Westfield Care and Rehabilitation Center in Meriden. He was the husband of Bertha Rathbun Savoie.
Born in Salem, Mass., Aug. 5, 1912, he was a son of the late Jeremy and Anna DuPont Savoie and was a Meriden resident for 70 years. He was employed by the New Departure Hyatt Bearing division of General Motors in Meriden and in Bristol for 30 years until his retirement and was well-known for his expertise in car restoration and painting. He was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church in Meriden.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Donald Savoie of New York City and James and Jennifer Savoie of Intervale, N.H.; a brother, Paul Savoie of Trumbull; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Valerie Rynaski Savoie.
His family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext., Wallingford, Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to St. Rose of Lima Church in Meriden for a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery
in Meriden.
LAWRENCE DELMOLINO
WALLINGFORD — Lawrence R. Delmolino, 61, of Old Lane, died Tuesday, July 14, 1998, in Yale-New Haven Hospital with his beloved family at his side after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Dolores Dighello Delmolino.
Born in Athol, Mass., July 25, 1936, son of the late Charles J. and Anne E. Chamberlain Delmolino, he was a Wallingford resident for 40 years.
Mr. Delmolino had been a firefighter for the Wallingford Fire Department for 30 years until his retirement in 1989. He was also employed by White Way Cleaners in Wallingford for 10 years. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U .S. Air Force.
Besides his wife, he was the beloved father of his three daughters and sons-in-law, Linn and William Dallas of Wallingford, Lee Ann and Jens Johnson of Stamford, and Lori Ann Delmolino-Manguilli and Larry Manguilli of Yalesville. He was the beloved grandfather of Karlee Ann Manguilli, Kendall Linn Manguilli, Kassie Marie Manguilli, Taylor Elizabeth Johnson, Allison Lee Johnson and William Bryce Dallas. He is also survived by two brothers, Barry C. Delmolino of Manitou Springs, Colo., and Danny E. Delmolino of San Clemente, Calif.
His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Wallingford Funeral Home. The Rev. Eric Fjeldal, pastor of the Yalesville United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 188, North Haven, CT 06473.
RICHARD D. MOREHOUSE
REDDING, Calif. — Richard D. Morehouse, 59, of Redding, husband of Dorothy M. Morehouse, died Monday, July 13, 1998, at his home after a brief illness.
Born June 18, 1939, in Middletown, Conn., the son of Henry and Bernice Morehouse, he was raised in Meriden, Conn., and graduated from Meriden High School. He served two years in the U.S. Navy and graduated from California State, L.A., where he earned his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering.
Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by a son, Steven Morehouse of Redding; a daughter, Valerie Morehouse of Los Angeles; two grandchildren; two brothers, Lawrence Morehouse of Wallingford, Conn., and Henry Morehouse of Middletown, Conn.,; one sister, Martha McCarthy of Lake Forest, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
