JOHN TUREK
DELAND, Fla. — John Turek, 76, of 1340 Heather Glen Drive, formerly of 593 Ward St. Ext., Wallingford, Conn., died Friday at the DeLand Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Mary Bussolotti Turek.
He was born on Oct. 12, 1921, in New Haven, a son of the late Joseph and Beatrice Boguniechi Turek. Before his retirement he had been the vice president of operations for the Macke Co. in North Haven. He had been a parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Cindy Turek of Wallingford; two brothers, Edward Turek of Lynwood, Wash., and Theodore Turek of East Haven, Conn.; a sister, Helen Silvestri of New Haven, Conn.; and two grandchildren, Ryan and Robyn Turek. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marguerite Choquette Turek; three brothers, Henry, Stanley and Steve; and two sisters, Jane O'Hedy and Beatrice Turek.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Resurrection, 115 Pond Hill Road, Wallingford. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery in North Haven, Conn. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 South Elm St., Wallingford, is in charge of the arrangements.

Wilfred Carrier
SOUTHINGTON — Wilfred Carrier, 82, of 11 Coach Drive, died Monday, July 13, 1998, at the Alzheimer's Resource Center. He was the husband of Gwyneth (Williams) Carrier.
Born in Haverhill, Mass., he was the son of the late Wilfred and Albertine Carrier. Mr. Carrier was a broadcaster on live radio throughout New England before his employment with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Southington. He had retired many years ago.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Nadine Carrier-Charest, a son-in-law, Armand Steven Charest, a grandson, Bryan Charest, all of Forestville.
Private services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. The DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

Henry DeMichele
MERIDEN — Henry DeMichele, 70, of 33 Roy St., died on Friday, July 10, 1998, at Olympus Health Care Center in Meriden after a lengthy illness.
Born in New Britain on July 24, 1927, he was the son of the late Anthony and Theresa (Carlone) DeMichele. He lived in Meriden for most of his life and was employed by the Meriden-Wallingford Hospital, retiring eight years ago.
Mr. DeMichele is survived by three sisters, Millie Pepe, Yolanda Ford and Mafalda Tomczuk, all of Meriden; and by a brother, Tony DeMichele of Middletown. He was predeceased by one brother, Dominic DeMichele.
A private graveside service and burial at Walnut Grove Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St.

Melany J. Dow
CANAAN — Melany Jean Dow, 21, of Canaan, died July 11, 1998, as a result of a motor vehicle accident. She was the daughter of Jonathan and Maria Dow of Meriden and Cheryl and Charles Kennedy of Falls Village.
She graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School in 1993. A graduate of Alfred University, N.Y., in 1997, she earned a B.A. degree in marketing. She was a past president and officer for Alpha Kappa Omicron. She recently began working as a marketing executive for Unz Imaging in New York City.
Besides her parents, she is survived by sisters, Heather and Jessica Dow and Kelly Brothers and brothers, Sean and Patrick Pattison; her paternal grandparents, Robert and Florence Dow of Meriden; her maternal grandmother, Jean Ridley of Meriden, and great-grandmother, Vera Straub. She also leaves behind a large family of loving aunts and uncles who will miss her dearly: David and Vicki Dow, Kevin and Linda Dow, Charlie and Cyndy Constantinople, Frank Ridley, Susan Ridley, Eddie Ridley, James Ridley, Roberta Brooks and Jim and Sue Brown and many, many cousins. She was predeceased by her grandfather, Frank Ridley of Meriden, and great-grandfather, Frank Straub.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday at St. Joseph's Church, 2 Main St., Canaan. Friends may call at the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home, 118 Main St. (Rt. 44), Canaan, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, an educational fund in her name will be set up at the Canaan National Bank, 100 Main St., Canaan.

Lucie M. Doyle
MERIDEN — Lucie M. Doyle, 84, of 194 Valley View Drive, wife of the late John J. Doyle Jr., died Sunday, July 12, 1998, at Connecticut Hospice in Branford after a brief illness.
Born in Meriden on Dec. 11, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Bertha (Rossiere) Minery. She was a lifelong resident of Meriden and a graduate of Meriden High School. Mrs. Doyle was the school secretary at Roger Sherman School in Meriden for 20 years. She was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church and a member of the Meriden Council of Catholic Women and the Daughters of Isabella.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Robert Fowler, and Suzanne and Dale Greenbacker, all of Meriden; four grandchildren, Jane and May Fowler, Katie Coleman, and Megin DeTomasis; one great-granddaughter, Emily Coleman; a sister, Mrs. Harold Gohr of California; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Claire Pepe of Meriden; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Doyle was predeceased by two sisters, Ernestine L'Heureux and Gertrude Williams; and by two brothers, Harold and Joseph Minery.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Should friends desire, contributions in her memory may be made to Connecticut Hospice Inc., 61 Burban Drive, Branford, CT 06405.

Joanne C. Lewandoski
BELMONT, N.H. — Joanne Carol (Zablocki) Lewandoski, 68, died Friday, July 10, 1998, at her home in Belmont, N.H., following a long illness.
She had lived in Wallingford, Conn., until 1977.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Al Lewandoski; three sons, Mark, David and James, all of New Hampshire; a daughter, Jane Barszcz of Meriden, Conn.; four granddaughters, Jennifer and Diana Barszcz, Rachel and Jillian Lewandoski; and a sister, Trudy Fournier.
A memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m. July 18 in St. Stanislaus Church, Akron Street, Meriden. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Community Health and Hospice, P.O. Box 578, Laconia, NH 03247.

Kathryn Liberty
MERIDEN — Kathryn (O'Neil) Liberty of Meriden, died Sunday, July 12, 1998, at Portland Care and Rehab Centre.
Born in Bridgeport, on Oct. 11, 1912, she was the daughter of the late James H. and Tina O'Neil. She graduated from Meriden High School, attended business school, and was employed at Storts Welding Co. She also worked for many years with her late husband, Lawrence A. Liberty, who co-owned and operated Connecticut Welders Inc. in Wallingford. Mrs. Liberty was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was active in the Chancel Choir and many other church organizations and activities.
Mrs. Liberty is survived by her two daughters and son-in-law, Edna Liberty of Portland and Kathy and Scott Simmons of Moodus; her sister-in-law, Mrs. James H. O'Neil Jr. of Hartford; and by two nephews, James H. O'Neil III of Hartford, and Robert W. O'Neil of Coventry. She is also survived by several other nieces, nephews and cousins, and by her beloved dog, Tara. Mrs. Liberty was predeceased by her sister, Edna O. Wolfe, and three brothers, Aldwin H. O'Neil, William L. O'Neil, and James H. O'Neil Jr.
The funeral and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Should friends desire, contributions in her memory may be made to the First United Methodist Church Living Memorial Fund, 15 Pleasant St., Meriden, CT 06450. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.

Arnaldo Ortiz
MERIDEN — Arnaldo Ortiz, 44, of Meriden, died Sunday, July 12, 1998, at Hartford Hospital following a long illness.
He was born Dec. 31, 1953, in Aguada, Puerto Rico, and was the son of Ernesto Ortiz of Meriden and the late B. Ventura (Muniz) Ortiz.
Besides his father he leaves two sons, Arnaldo Ortiz Jr. and Fernando Ortiz, both of Pennsylvania ; five brothers, Samuel, Nicasio and Carlos Ortiz, all of Meriden, Louis Ortiz of New York and Hector Ortiz of Puerto Rico; five sisters, Aurea Ortiz of Meriden, Jeanette Ortiz-Sterling of Southington, Herminia Ortiz of Puerto Rico, Erodita Ponce of Florida and Maria Ortiz of New Jersey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call at the Stempien Funeral Home, 450 Broad St., Meriden, Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Vincent F. Pagano
OLD SAYBROOK — Vincent F. "Jimmy" Pagano, 90, of 19 Fenwood Road, died Sunday, July 12, 1998, at his home after a short illness. He was the husband of Martita "Martha" Ramos Pagano.
He was born in Middletown, Oct. 15, 1907, son of the late Joseph and Carmalino Drago Pagano. He lived in Old Saybrook for the past 15 years, and was formerly of Paraguay, South America. He was retired from the State of Connecticut as a civil engineer for the Highway Department and was the designer of the Chester-Hadlyme ferry landing. He was also retired as a civil engineer and consultant for the Edward N. Kelsey Corp in New Jersey. He was a noted jazz musician in the Middletown area and a member of the American Federation of Musicians. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Seabees; a member of the Westbrook Lodge of Elks and a noted bridge builder all over the world.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Joseph Pagano of Shelburne Falls, Mass.; two sisters, Gertrude Mozzotta of Middletown and Batista Parisi of Meriden; and one grandchild.
Funeral procession will leave the Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook, Wednesday, at 8:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 9 a.m. at St. John's Roman Catholic Church, Old Saybrook. Burial will be in the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington.

Edward J. Sweeney
WALLINGFORD — Edward John Sweeney, 80, of Loring Court, Yalesville, died Monday, July 13, 1998, at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center in Meriden. He was the husband of Elaine Wusterbarth Sweeney.
Born in West Haven, Oct. 5, 1917, he was a son of the late Michael and Frieda Krausmann Sweeney and was a New Haven and Hamden resident for many years until moving to Yalesville 21 years ago. He was employed by the Brock Hall Dairy in Hamden for 26 years until his retirement and had been the secretary and treasurer of the Independent Dairy Workers Union. Following his retirement he was employed by the Wackenhut Security Co. of Hartford and was a crossing guard for the town of Wallingford. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army, and was a member of the Yalesville United Methodist Church in the Yalesville section of Wallingford.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a sister, Anna Sweeney of New Haven.
His family will receive relatives and friends at the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Wednesday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. in the Yalesville Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric Fjeldal, pastor of the Yalesville United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Meriden will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be sent to the Yalesville United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 8 New Place St., Yalesville, CT 06492.
