Bryan A. O'Looney
MERIDEN — Bryan A. O'Looney, 74, of 365 Gravel St., husband of Rose (Gallo) O'Looney, died on Monday, July 6, 1998, at Brook Hollow Convalescent Home in Wallingford.
Born July 3, 1924, in Meriden, he was the son of the late William and Lillian (Dorschid) O'Looney. He was educated in Meriden and lived here all his life. Mr. O'Looney was employed by International Silver Co. until his retirement. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy. He was the recipient of the Philippine Liberation Medal (two stars), the Asiatic Pacific Medal (eight stars), the American Theatre and Victory medals. Bryan was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Besides his wife, Rose, he is survived by one daughter, Linda O'Looney of Meriden; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Marlene O'Looney of East Haddam; and two sisters, Catherine Jankowski and Irene Panciera, both of Meriden. He is survived by several nieces and nephews, and was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Doyer, and by two brothers, William and Robert O'Looney.
A graveside service and burial was held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, at Sacred Heart Cemetery, with the Rev. Robert Roy officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St.
Antonio F. Santopietro
SOUTHINGTON — Antonio F. Santopietro, 67, of Darling Street, Southington, died at St. Mary's Hospital.
Born March 12, 1931, in Italy, son of the late Luigi and Rosa Santopietro, he was a resident of Southington for the past 22 years. He had worked for Ideal Forge.
He is survived by his children's mother, Anita (Lombardi) Santopietro; a son, John Santopietro of New Britain; three daughters, Josephine Frick of Kensington, Rosa Santopietro and Patricia Santopietro, both of New Britain; three grandchildren; one brother and two sisters in Italy.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 11, at St. Aloysius Church. There are no calling hours. Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Marian Holroyd
GALES FERRY — Marian (Corcoran) Holroyd, of 29 Monticello Drive, Gales Ferry, wife of the late George F. Holroyd, died Wednesday, July 8, 1998, at Middlesex Memorial Hospital, Middletown.
She was born in Wallingford, the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Fahey) Corcoran and had lived in Middletown most of her life. She was a graduate of Lyman Hall High School. During World War II she was a civilian aircraft spotter and was a volunteer for area Boy Scouts and the Red Cross. She was a member of St. John Church, Middletown.
She is survived by one son, George F. "Skip" Holroyd Jr., of Guilford; three daughters, Faye H. Karanian of Newington, Carol H. Minor of Madison and Lisa H. Champagne of Gales Ferry; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held from the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church St., Middletown, Saturday, July 11 at 10:30 a.m. and at St. John Church, Middletown at 11:30 a.m. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Middletown. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to St. John Church, 19 St. John's Square, Middletown, CT 06457.
Dorothy J. Kohlberg
WOLCOTT — Dorothy J. Kohlberg, 73, of 52 Clinton Hill Road, died Thursday, July 9, 1998, at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven. She was the wife of Victor S. Kohlberg.
Born June 13, 1925, in Stratford, the daughter of the late Joseph and Hilda (Johanson) Bratz. She had been a resident of Wolcott for 26 years. She was the owner and proprietor of the Dovic Dolls.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her children, Dorrie Kohlberg of Wolcott, Carl Kohlberg of Waterbury and Charles Kohlberg of Southington; two brothers, Walter Bratz of Stratford and Robert Bratz of Milford; a sister, Florence Freer of Georgia; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 11, at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 690 Woodtick Road. Burial will be at the convience of the family. Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Terryville Animal Rescue, 366 Main St., Terryville, CT 06786.
JOSEPH H. BEGIN
MERIDEN — Joseph H. Begin, 90, of 16 Arch Parkway, husband of 63 years to Marie Anne (Mercier) Begin, died Thursday, July 9, 1998, at Veterans Memorial Medical Center, after a short illness.
Born Aug. 19, 1907, in St. Henri de Levis, Canada, he was the son of the late Joseph and Amanda (Beaudoin) Begin. He was educated in Canada, and moved to Meriden in 1926. Mr. Begin was employed by New Departure, Hyatt Bearing Division of General Motors, for more than 38 years, retiring in 1962. He was a parishioner of St. Laurent Church and his favorite hobbies included fishing, gardening and cutting wood.
Besides his wife, Marie Anne, he is survived by one sister, Alice Begin of Quebec, Canada; one niece, Rita Mercier of Meriden; one cousin, Mariette Charpentier of Meriden; by several nieces and nephews in Quebec; and by many, many friends. He was predeceased by a brother, Aime Begin.
The funeral will be held at 9:15 a.m. Monday, July 13, from the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 10 a.m. in St. Laurent Church. Burial will be in St. Laurent Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, July 12, at the funeral home.
KATHRYN FLEISCHER
DANBURY — Kathryn (Kennedy) Fleischer, 87, of 21 Sunrise Road, Danbury, wife of William C. Fleischer, died Thursday, July 9, 1998, at her home.
Mrs. Fleischer was born Jan. 22, 1911, in North Attleboro, Mass., a daughter of the late Barthelemew and Elizabeth (Dunne) Kennedy. She attended schools in North Attleboro, and later in Meriden, where she lived with her family. She then attended the University of Connecticut at Storrs and graduated in 1932 with a bachelor of science degree. She later attended graduate school at New York University. Mrs. Fleischer was a retired educator with the Meriden school system. She first taught at Lincoln Juinior High School and later at Platt High School in the subject areas of home economics and science. She retired in 1977. A resident of Danbury for the past eight years, coming from Meriden, she was a member of the Connecticut Retired Teachers Association and of St. James Episcopal Church of Danbury.
In addition to her husband of 51 years, she is survived by two daughters, Dianne Fleischer, with whom she made her home, and Karen Davidson and her husband, Joseph M. Davidson; two granddaughters, Kate and Clare Davidson, all of Danbury.
Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, in St. James Episcopal Church, Danbury, with the Rev. Charles Ramsden assisted by Seminarian Peter Faas. Burial will take place at 2 p.m. at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Meriden. There will be no calling hours. Memorials in Mrs. Fleischer's memory may be made to the Hanahoe Memorial Children's Clinic, 205 Main St., Danbury, or to Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, 30 West St., Danbury, CT 06810. The Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9-11 Granville Ave., Danbury, is in charge of arrangements.
SANDRA B. FOELL
MERIDEN — Sandra B. Foell, 59, formerly of Markham Place, died July 11, 1998, at the Connecticut Hospice. During her long, brave fight against cancer, she resided at the home of Elizabeth Susan Foell and Marie Elizabeth Melillo of Elm Hill Dr. in Wallingford. She was the wife of the late Alfred E. Foell.
She was born in Manchester on Feb. 4, 1939, to the late Arthur and Ethel Gustafson. Due to her mother's death at the time of her birth, she was adopted into the loving home of the late Albert and Elizabeth Burgert, formerly of Middlefield. After her graduation from Meriden schools in 1957, she was employed by SNET until moving on to the Veterans Memorial Medical Center where she worked in the food service department from 1980 to 1996. During the course of her life she enjoyed many trips, including safaris in Africa, bullfights in Madrid, and numerous cruises.
She is survived by her adoring daughter, Elizabeth Susan Foell, who stood by her, comforted, and totally supported her throughout her illness. She is also survived by two sons, Michael and Rock Foell; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Lois and Erv Piela of Canterbury and Barbara Botting of Manchester; a brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Hazel Gustafson of Storrs; a grandchild, Jenna Lee Leahy; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, her kindred spirit, beloved Jean Lavigne, formerly of Mansfield.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. .from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m.
ALFRED C. MAURI SR.
MERIDEN — Alfred C. Mauri Sr., 83, of 51 Blueberry Lane and 2506 S.E. 8th Ave., Cape Coral, Fla., close friend and loving companion of Margaret Drauss Steigler, died suddenly Sunday, July 12, 1998, at Veterans Memorial Medical Center. Mr. Mauri was the husband of the late Arlene Lyons Mauri.
He was born in Wallingford, Jan. 6, 1915, a son of the late Alphonse and Rose Mauri and had resided in Meriden most of his lifetime. He was educated in the Meriden schools and was the founder of Royal Roofing and Sheet Metal Co., retiring 18 years ago. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church, a member of the Meriden Lodge of Elk #35 and a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Silver City Council #2.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Gerald Kubeck, of Meriden, and Phyllis and Joseph Vincenzo, of Cape Coral, Fla.; four sons and daughters-in-law, Alfred C. and Ann Mauri Jr., of Meriden, Thomas Mauri Sr., of Meriden, Robert and Pamela Mauri, of Meriden and David and Celeste Mauri, of Meriden; 13 grandchildren, Steven Mauri, Thomas and Ryan Mauri, Michael, Karen, and Brian Kubeck; Lorie, Amy, Michele, and Jamie Vincenzo, Jennifer Mauri, Kimberly Patterson and Kristine Mitchell; four great-grandchildren, Stephen Justice, Alexander and Rebecca Mauri, and Alexander Brown; one sister, Louise Fontanella, of Meriden; two brothers, William and Paul Mauri, both of Meriden; and also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main St. and at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m.
IRENE RANDALL
SOUTHINGTON — Irene "Angie" Ruiz Randall, 55, wife of John M. Randall, of Olson Drive, died Sunday morning, July 12, 1998, at home with her family by her side.
Born in Gilcrest, Colo., the daughter of the late Ambrosio and Irene (Cercero) Ruiz, she was raised and educated in Arizona until moving to California, where she lived for 15 years before moving to Southington 14 years. ago. She was employed for several years at Classic Coil in Plainville and was a member of the Faith Living Church in Plantsville.
In addition to her husband, John, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Kim Randall of Bristol; her son, Michael E. Randall, of New York; her two daughters, Christine and Karen Randall, both of Southington; her mother-in-law, Ann Roche of Unionville; two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law, Jerry and Joanne Randall of Farmington and Bob Randall of New York; four brothers and five sisters residing out West; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 14, at 11 a.m. at the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 S. Main Street, Plantsville. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Donations in "Angie's" memory may be made to the American Heart Association.
MICHAEL JERMINE
LAS VEGAS — Michael "Mickey" Jermine, 85, of Silvery Avenue, Las Vegas, died suddenly, Thursday, July 9, 1998, at the Las Vegas Hospital. He was the husband of Lillian Fields Jermine.
Born in New Haven, Nov. 8, 1912, he was a son of the late Thomas and Julia Jermine and was a Madison resident for many years until moving to Las Vegas seven years ago.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Barbara Dsupin of Wallingford, Conn., and Michele Grieder of Clinton, Conn.; a son, James Jermine of Wallingford; six sisters, Mary Hilton, Virginia Connolly, Dorothy Stamp, Harriet Ward and Alexandra Page, all of North Haven, Conn., and June D'Avino of Wallingford; a brother, Thomas Jermine of North Haven; a grandson, James Policar; a great-grandson, Michael Policar; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ann Young Jermine; a sister, Rita Mellilo and a brother, Oliver Jermine.
Funeral services and interment will be private.
