Frank G. Ores
WALLINGFORD — Frank G. Ores, 88, husband of Adeline Carrano Ores, of Simpson Avenue, died Sunday, July 5, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Ores was born in Wallingford, Feb. 22, 1910, a son of the late Joseph and Susan Farkas Oros, and was a lifelong resident here. He had been a machinist at M. Backes & Sons Co. in Wallingford for many years until his retirement and was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law, John J. and Ruth Oros and Robert S. Oros, all of Wallingford, and Richard M. and Janice Oros of Middletown; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four sisters, Mary Scarpa, Elizabeth Oros, Susan Oros, and Bessie Wigh; and two brothers, Joseph Oros and William Oros.
His family will receive relatives and friends at the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Tuesday from 11:45 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Lillian Pontbriand
WALLINGFORD — Lillian Farland Pontbriand, 77, widow of Norman Pontbriand Sr., of Loring Court, Yalesville section of Wallingford, died Thursday, July 2, 1998, at Veterans Memorial Medical Center, after a brief illness.
Mrs. Pontbriand was born in Fall River, Mass., March 26, 1921, daughter of the late Albert and Eva Bernard Farland, and had lived in New Bedford, Mass., until moving to Wallingford in 1959. She retired from Gaylord Hospital in 1982 and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church.
She is survived by two sons, Norman Pontbriand Jr. and his wife, Melanie of Wallingford and Mark J. Pontbriand and his wife, MaryAnn, of Higganum; two grandsons, David M. Pontbriand and his wife, Lisa, of Wallingford and Christopher M. Pontbriand of Higganum; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Wilford Farland.
Her family will receive relatives and friends at the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville, Monday from 4 to 7 p.m., when a funeral service will be held. A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Bedford, Mass. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 20, Memphis, TN 38101-0020.
Louise E. Pronovost
MERIDEN — Louise E. (Nichols) Pronovost, 77, of Britannia St., wife of the late Edgar Pronovost, died Saturday morning, July 4, 1998, at Veterans Memorial Medical Center-West Campus, after a brief illness.
Born in Meriden on Aug. 31, 1920, the daughter of the late Harry and Amelia (Tittle) Nichols, she had been a Meriden resident for most of her life. Mrs. Pronovost was educated in the Kensington school system and was a graduate of Meriden High School. She was employed by the Cuno Manufacturing Co. of Meriden from some 20 years and more recently at the Department of Motor Vehicles in Wethersfield, retiring 12 years ago. Mrs. Pronovost was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society in Middletown and was a member of the Breathers' Club of VMMC-West Campus.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Allan E. and Ellen Pronovost of Meriden; six grandchildren, Brian, Stephen, Elizabeth, David, Anne and Sarah; two sisters, her twin, Emma Barillaro of Wallingford and Arlene Deline of Marina, Calif; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Should friends desire, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. H. Robert Bishop
MERIDEN — H. Robert Bishop, 69, died on Tuesday, July 7, 1998, at Veterans Memorial Medical Center.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Christine; a sister, Marjorie B. Rinaldi; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours and interment will be private. Please, no flowers or Mass cards. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry and Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St.
Clara M. Cahill
HEBRON — Mrs. Clara M. Cahill, beloved wife of James, of 7 Senate Brook Road, Amston section, died Tuesday, July 7, 1998, in Hollis, N.H., with her family.
She was born in Wallingford, the daughter of the late Primo and Marion (Feriolo) Mancini. Mrs. Cahill was a communicant of St. Andrew's Church in Colchester.
In addition to her husband of 47 years, survivors include three children, James Cahill Jr. of Walpole, N.H., Colleen A. Kalita and her husband, Stephen Davis of Hollis, N.H., and Bryan T. and his wife, Betty, Cahill of Pilion, S.C.; four grandchildren, Alycia Cahill of Cameron Park, Calif., Joshua Cahill, Melyssa-Amber Cahill and Sean-Patrick Cahill, all of Pilion, S.C.; a sister, Mary Catrona of Meriden; two brothers, Joseph Mancini of Putnam and Alfred Mancini of Brooksville, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 11, at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester. Following, a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew's Church in Colchester. Burial will be in New St. Andrew's Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 10, at the funeral home.
Rita C. Daly
DUBLIN, Ireland — Rita C. Daly, a Wallingford, Conn., resident for 22 years, died recently in Dublin, Ireland. She was the widow of Patrick J. Daly.
Born Sept. 29, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Richard Doyle and Theresa McGrath Doyle. She was employed for 17 years by ARA Food Services at Choate Rosemary Hall.
She is survived by a son, Stephen Daly of Minneapolis; two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Carol) Vance of Wallingford and Barbara Griffith of Dublin, Ireland; one brother, Peader Doyle; three sisters, Jane Doyle, Aida Finley and Dolores Foley, all of Dublin.
Funeral services and burial were held in Dublin. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital, Memphis, TN.
Harlan M. Ellis
ALFRED, Maine — Harlan M. Ellis, 85, a resident Whichers Mill Road, a former longtime resident of Norman Avenue, Wallingford, Conn., died Friday, July 3, 1998, at his residence after a long illness. He was predeceased by his wife, Edna Goslin Ellis, who died March 15, 1997.
Mr. Ellis was born Dec. 13, 1912, in Mapleton, Maine, a son of Eben and Philia Pulsifer Ellis. He attended Mapleton schools. A U.S. Army veteran, he served in the European and African campaigns. Mr. Ellis was employed for more than 25 years with Cytec in Wallingford.
Survivors include a son, Melvin of Heidelberg, Germany; six stepchildren, Emile, Godfrey and Victor Leterneau of Wallingford, Joanne Blanchard, Joyce Legasee and Jean Rogers; two sisters, Delta Ellis of Ashland, Maine, and Musa Powers of Alfred, Maine; also many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Mr. Ellis will be buried in a family plot in Ashland, Maine. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Bibber Memorial Chapel, Kennebunk, Maine.
Felicia Maglione
MERIDEN — Felicia M. Maglione, 89, wife of the late Louis A. Maglione, died Tuesday, July 7, 1998, in the Meriden Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, after a brief illness.
She was born in Benevento, Italy, Sept. 11, 1908, a daughter of the late Francesco and Antoinette Izzo Minucci. She was a longtime resident of 68 Sunbright Drive, North. She retired from the Meriden school system, having been a school matron at Platt High School for many years. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She was a member of the Meriden Senior Citizens.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Francis L. and Ruth of Narragansett, R.I., and Louis R. and Alice Maglione of Wallingford; two grandchildren, Amanda Maglione and Lisa Wild; two great-grandchildren, Ivy Rose Wild and Amy Rose Maglione; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Maria Cassarella.
Her funeral service will be held in the Sacred Heart Cemetery
Mausoleum, South Broad Street, Meriden, Friday, July 10 at 10:30 a.m. She will be interred next to her husband in Sacred Heart Cemetery. For those unable to attend, her family requests intentional acts of kindness be offered in her memory. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St.
Andrew M. Mahadocon
MERIDEN — Andrew M. Mahadocon, 26, of Meriden died Tuesday, July 7, 1998, at Bridgeport Hospital.
He was born in Corona, Calif. He graduated from Maloney High School in 1989 and was employed by the Dattco Co. He had served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Pagan) Mahadocon; his father, Frederick Mahadocon of Norco, Calif.; his mother, Theresa Tosetti of Middletown; two sons, Spencer and Talon of Meriden; four sisters, Ann Heath of Meriden, Anita Ganaros of Rockfall, Alita Mahadocon of Las Vegas, Angel Mahadocon of Meriden; a maternal grandmother, Rose Badolato of Middletown; an aunt Anita Maruffi of Providence, R.I.; an uncle, Steven Badolato of Laguna Beach, Calif.; two nieces and three nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm St., Rocky Hill. Burial at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home two hours prior to the service.
