MILDRED E. STEARNS
WALLINGFORD — Mildred E. Stearns, 84, of 23 Woodland Drive, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, at her home.
She was born in Stony Creek, Branford, Feb. 12, 1914, a daughter of the late Henry and Hannah Hendrickson.
Until her retirement in 1981, she was a teacher in the Branford and Canton school systems for 39 years. She was a member of the Connecticut Education Association.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David L. Stearns Sr. and Patricia Stearns of Wallingford; a sister, Tyra Mahon of Vernon; four grandchildren, David L. Stearns Jr., Eric J. Stearns, Philip H. Stearns and Mark A. Stearns; and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Henry Hendrickson and three sisters, Vera Pond, Edith Pine and Helga Hendrickson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Wallingford, 114 N. Main St. Burial will be at Stony Creek Cemetery, Branford. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
It is suggested that gifts in her memory be made to the Meriden-Wallingford V.N.A. Hospice, 658 Broad St., Meriden 06450.
The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St., is in charge of arrangements.
BEATRICE TURLIS
WALLINGFORD — Beatrice Trigilio Turlis, 84, of Ward Street, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1998, in the Masonic Geriatric Healthcare Center. She was the wife of the late Anthony Turlis.
Born in Wallingford, July 22, 1914, daughter of the late Angelo and Rosa Maria Laurenza Trigilio, she was a lifelong Wallingford resident.
Mrs. Turlis had been employed by the Joseph Feldman Dress Co., formerly of Wallingford, for many years until her retirement. She was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church and had been a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Society.
Mrs. Turlis is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Leatrice A. and Elihu F. Phares of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward A. and Sylvianne G. Turlis and Thomas A. and Sharon F. Turlis, all of Wallingford; six grandchildren, Cheryl A. Barile, Edward A. Turlis Jr., Suzanne M. Turlis, Matthew T. Turlis, Shannon F. Turlis, and Kristen C. Turlis; two great-grandchildren, Edward A. Turlis III and Gianna M. Barile; a sister, Lil Milewski of Wallingford; two brothers, Michael Trigilio of Wallingford and Joseph Riccitelli of Meriden, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Trigilio.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. from The Wallingford Funeral Home when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the Masonic Charity Foundation, P.O. Box 70, Wallingford, CT 06492, or the charity of one's choice.
DONNA M. ULATOWSKI
BERLIN — Donna Marie (Macri) Ulatowski, 39, beloved wife of Carl R. Ulatowski Jr. of 1334 Chamberlain Highway, Kensington, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, in the New Britain General Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born in Meriden, Feb. 8, 1959, a daughter of Dominic and Theresa Candito of Meriden. She had lived most of her life in Meriden, graduating from Maloney High School in 1977. She went on to earn a BS, MS and sixth-year degrees from Central Connecticut State University. She was admitted into the honor society Kappa Delta Pi on Nov. 18, 1979. She was employed as a teacher in the John Barry School for the past 10 years. Donna was an advocate for animal rights and she was a member of the A.S.P.C.A. and the Humane Society of the United States. She was also a published poet, and an ardent W.W.F. fan. She was lifelong parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church where she was a lector for Mass.
Besides her husband and parents, she is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Mathew Skorupski of Bristol; a nephew, Michael Joseph Skorupski; her mother and father-in-law, Carl and Michaline Ulatowski Sr. of New Britain and a sister-in-law and her husband, Barbara and Brian Scully, also of New Britain. She very much enjoyed her dog, Ginger.
Her funeral will be held Saturday morning, Aug. 29, 1998, commencing at 9:15 a.m. in the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St., with a procession to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church for her 10 a.m. funeral liturgy. She will be interred with her grandparents in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call in the funeral home Friday, Aug. 28, 1998, from 4 to 8 p.m.
WILLIAM WOODTKE
KALISPELL, Mont. — William Fredrick "Pop" Woodtke, 81, died Sunday, June 7, 1998, at his home in Kalispell.
He was born June 22, 1916, in Meriden, Conn., a son of the late William Carl and Emma Greenwood Woodtke and was raised in the Tracy section of Wallingford, Conn., where he attended Yalesville School and Lyman Hall High School. On June 22, 1935, he married Estelle Byczynski who passed away June 5, 1964. His second marriage on June 22, 1967, was to Elinor Nelson Tracy who died on June 29, 1984.
During World War II he served in the Merchant Marine, was a police constable in Wallingford, a volunteer fireman in Tracy and a member of the Wallingford Kiwanis Club. He moved to Arkansas in 1972, where he built and operated Pop's Bait Shop. Everyone in the area came to Pop's to get their supplies and the best information on where to catch the biggest fish. He was an absolute avid fisherman and a very outgoing and caring person who loved to visit with people, as were his parents. He moved to Kalispell in 1986.
He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Lee Woodtke of Kalispell, and Mrs. Judith Karen Florczak of Londonderry, N.H.; four grandchildren, Mrs. Denise Deborah Faucher, Thomas M. Florczak, Kenneth B. Florczak and Brian M. Florczak; four great-grandchildren, Thomas Jr., Kenneth Jr., Jennifer and Stephanie Faucher and one godchild, Geraldine Ann Dubois Sabatino. Besides both his wives, he was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Philip, and his sister, Virginia Dubois.
It was his wish to be cremated and his daughters' wish for him to be buried with Mom Estelle on his 82nd birthday and wedding anniversary, Monday, June 22nd. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, at 11 a.m. in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Section 18 West. The family requests memorials be sent to Saint Jude's Hospital for Children or the American Cancer Society.
ANTOINETTE DESCHAMPS
EAST HAMPTON — Antoinette (Boisvert) Deschamps, widow of Wilde J. Deschamps, a longtime resident of Meriden and East Hampton for the past seven years, went home to be with the Lord on Aug. 26, 1998, to celebrate eternal life.
She leaves behind a loving daughter, Dianne Deschamps Baker of East Hampton; three grandchildren whom she cherished, Jay Baker and his wife, Cheryl, of Meriden, Darlene E. B. Hardy and her husband, John, of Middletown, Lois M. B. Villa and her husband, Peter, of East Hampton. Also nine great-grandchildren, Tyler, Nicole and Jayson Baker, Chuck and Jamie Curtis, all of Meriden, Jessica-Lynne and Shane Hardy of Middletown and Peter and Carli Villa of East Hampton; several nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Archibald Boisvert of Meriden; a sister, Florette Brunell of New Haven; a niece; and two nephews. She was a graduate of Laurel Business College, was employed during World War II at New Departure Division of GM in Meriden, later at Genungs Department Store of Meriden and retired from the Dietary Department of Meriden/Wallingford Hospital in 1981.
The funeral procession will leave the Spencer Funeral Home, 112 Main St., East Hampton, Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral liturgy at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Church, East Hampton. Burial will follow in St. Laurent Cemetery, Meriden. Friends may call at the funeral home today from 6 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Church, 47 W. RALPH HURLBUT
SOUTHINGTON — Ralph F. Hurlbut, 49, formerly of Southington, died Monday Aug. 24, 1998, in New Jersey.
He was born in Salzburg, Austria, April 19, 1949, the son of Anna (Urdl) Hurlbut and the late Ralph A. Hurlbut. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and had served two tours of duty in Vietnam as a helicopter gunner.
Besides his mother of Southington, he is survived by his wife, Allison Koolick of Little Egg Harbour, N.J.; and three sons, Michael Hurlbut of Southington, Shawn and Danny Hurlbut of New Jersey. He was predeceased by a daughter, Jessica.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St. Burial, with military honors, will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.
JAMES S. KERR
CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — James S. Kerr, 73, of Croton-on-Hudson, died Aug. 6, 1998, while vacationing with his family on Cape Cod, Mass. He was the husband of Grace Congdon Kerr.
He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, serving for 35 years in many capacities.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Virginia Henderson of Meriden and Beth Nelson of Cape Cod, Mass.; three sons, Robert Kerr of Nicaragua, James Kerr of Larchmont, and John Kerr of Croton-on-Hudson; and 11 grandchildren.
A memorial service, followed by a reception, will be held Saturday at noon at the Asbury Methodist Church in Croton-on-Hudson. Officiating will be his son-in-law, the Rev. Eric Henderson of the First United Methodist Church of Meriden.
Donations in his name may be made to the Asbury Church Slate Roof Fund.
WILLIAM E. LACY
SOUTHINGTON — William E. Lacy, 34, 104 Carter Lane in the Plantsville section of Southington, died Wednesday Aug. 26, 1998, at Bradley Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Hartford July 4, 1964, and a was Southington resident and member of the Nagle family for 28 years. He was a communicant of St. Thomas Church, a former member of SARC and EDC Job Club. He was also a participant of Meriden-Wallingford Society for the Handicapped and a former member of Kimball House in Meriden.
He is survived by members of the Nagle family, Barbara, Doris, Dennis, Paul, Bill, Pat and Kevin Nagle; Kathleen Roberson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. He will be missed by all.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 29, at 9 a.m. at the Plantsville Memorial Funeral Home, 975 South Main St., Plantsville, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Thomas Church. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the funeral home Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.
