VINCENT A. PICCOLO
WEST HAVEN — Vincent A. Piccolo, 47, son of Carmela Ferraro Piccolo, of Southington, and the late Fortuna Piccolo, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center, West Haven, after a brief illness.
He was born in Meriden, June 14, 1951. He had been a resident of Meriden for many years, worked for the Meriden-Wallingford Hospital, he was a bus driver for the Meriden public school system, and he had worked for DeLucia Greenhouses, Cheshire. Most recently he had worked at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, West Haven. He attended Platt High School, served with the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam War. Also, he was trained and held a first-class truck driver's license.
Besides his mother, he is survived by a brother, Nickodemos Piccolo, and a sister, Maryann Piccolo, both of Southington; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service, Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, at 9:15 a.m. in the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St., with his Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Meriden. He will be interred in the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown. There will be calling hours in the funeral home, Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, from 7 to 9 p.m. His family requests that contributions be made to the Veterans Administration Medical Center, West Spring Street, West Haven, CT 06516, to help with liver disease research.

KATHERINE L. WARDELL
WALLINGFORD — Katherine L. Wardell, 43, died Friday, Aug. 7, 1998, in the Connecticut Hospice in Branford.
She was born on Sept. 4, 1954, in Colorado Springs, Colo., a daughter of Don and Donna Schawe Trefethen of Apache Junction, Ariz. Before her retirement due to illness, she was employed at the Durham Manufacturing Co. in Durham. While living in Colorado Springs she was the owner of the Hair Mystique Beauty Salon.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a son, Scott Kullman of Colorado Springs; a daughter, Katie Kullman of Wallingford; a brother, William Trefethen of Dana Point, Calif.; a sister, Suzy Hall and her husband, Bob, of Wallingford; two nephews and one niece.
The funeral will leave the B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, 273 S. Elm St., Wallingford, Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. to the Church of the Resurrection, 115 Pond Hill Road, Wallingford, for a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. If friends so desire, gifts in her memory may be sent to the CT Hospice, 61 Burban Drive, Branford, CT 06405 or to the Cancer Care Partnership c/o Doreen Donahue, Veterans Memorial Medical Center, 1 King Place, Meriden, CT 06451.

JOHN C. CAMPEAU SR.
CHESHIRE — John C. Campeau Sr., 64, of 169 East Mitchell Ave., died Saturday at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford.
Mr. Campeau was born in Torrington on Jan. 17, 1934, a son of the late Charles and Mildred (Pitman) Campeau, and lived in Cheshire and Hamden for most of his life. He was a 1952 graduate of Torrington High School and was a graduate of Emerson College in Boston. He was the owner and general agent for the former Washington National Insurance Company and was a financial manager for Montesi Motors in North Haven. Mr. Campeau was a peacetime veteran, serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, and was a member of the New Haven Rotary Club, the New Haven Lions Club, and was a member for over 15 years of the Cheshire Volunteer Police Department.
He leaves a son, John C. Campeau Jr. of New Haven; two daughters, Lori J. Campeau of Cheshire and Sharon Cardozo of Mandeville, La.; a sister, Gail Doolittle of Torrington; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will leave on Wednesday at 9:15 a.m. from the Slater Funeral Home, 242 South Main St., and proceed to St. Bridget's Church for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be private for the family. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 61 Burban Drive, Branford, CT 06405.

JANET E. MORRIS
WALLINGFORD — Janet E. Mansfield Morris, 67, of Silliman Road, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at Veterans Memorial Medical Center. She was the wife of the late George E. Morris.
Mrs. Morris was born in New Haven, April 27, 1931, the daughter of the late Leslie A. and Doris Allen Mansfield, and had lived in North Haven until moving to Wallingford, where she had resided since 1962. She had been employed by the Southern New England Telephone Co. for several years and was a member of St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Yalesville. She was a member of the North Haven Historical Society.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol E. Morris, with whom she resided in Wallingford; her son and daughter-in-law, Robert G. and Dawn C. Morris of Wallingford; her two grandchildren, Michael R. Morris and Lindsay M. Morris of Wallingford; her two brothers, Richard Mansfield of North Haven and David Mansfield of Bristol; and several nieces and nephews.
Her family will receive relatives and friends at the Yalesville Funeral Home, 386 Main St., Yalesville section of Wallingford, Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, Yalesville. The Rev. Susan Stiles will officiate. Interment will be In Memoriam Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, 360 Church St., Yalesville, CT 06492.

JO-ANN SMITH
SALEM, N.H. — Jo-Ann (Latif) Smith, 54, of Salem, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, at the Parkland Medical Center in Derry.
She was born in Bennington, Vt., where she grew up and attended schools, before moving to Salem 25 years ago. Mrs. Smith was a teacher at Pinkerton Academy in Derry where she taught for 13 years. She was a 1998 senior class advisor, the yearbook advisor and an active leader for Pinkerton Academy, where she started the Veterans Breakfast four years ago.
Mrs. Smith graduated from Bennington Catholic High School, received her bachelor's degree from Emmanuel College in Boston and her master's degree from Rivier College in Nashua, N.H. She was a member of St. Joseph Church in Salem, where she was Eucharistic minister, and lector. She was also a teacher at St. Joseph Grammar School in Salem, She enjoyed making Christmas stockings with needlepoint, music, and gardening.
Survivors include her husband, H. Thomas Smith of Salem, formerly of Meriden, Conn.; four daughters, Amy and her husband, Howard Glynn III of Salem, Nora Imprescia of Williston, Fla., Melanie Smith of Atlanta and Kara Smith of Salem; her parents, Joseph and Jane Latif of Bennington, Vt.; a brother, Stephen Latif of Simpsonville, S.C.; three sisters, Rosemary Valentine of Bennington, Vt., Jane Outwater of Shaftsbury, Vt., Michal Amadon of Bennington, Vt.; two grandsons, Howard Glynn IV and Ethan Glynn of Salem.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Salem. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wegeners Support Group International, P.O. Box 28660, Kansas City, MO 64188-8660.

EMILY BARRETT
MERIDEN — Emily (Frederick) Barrett, 77, wife of Charles A. Barrett, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, at Yale-New Haven Hospital. The Barretts lived in Meriden for more than 21 years before retiring to Daytona Beach, Fla.
Born in Flemington, N.J. on Aug. 23, 1920, to Ernest and Olive Frederick, Mrs. Barrett was raised in Yonkers, N.Y. where she met her husband, Charles Barrett. They lived in Hartford and Ellington before settling in Meriden in 1959. Mrs. Barrett worked for more than 25 years at Prudential Life Insurance Company, retiring as Supervisor of the New Haven East Regional Office. She was a parishioner of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Meriden for many years. She was an avid golfer and loved playing sports almost as much as she loved watching her children and grandchildren playing sports.
Mrs. Barrett's life revolved around her family, and she was the center of that family. The success of her life was only the reflection of the loving family she adored and who in turn adored her. To the end, she was cherished and lovingly cared for by her husband Charles, with whom she shared a wonderful life.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Barrett is survived by her three loving children, Dean Barrett of Holiday, Fla., Lynn Clark and Gail McGoldrick of Meriden; a son-in-law, Lawrence McGoldrick; a brother and sister-in-law, Ernest and Rose Frederick of Northvale, N.J.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. William Conklin of Hutchinson Island, Fla.; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Barrett of Meriden. She was predeceased by a sister, Mrs. Richard (Freda) Wales.
Mrs. Barrett ("Nana") is also survived and will be missed by the lights of her later life, her grandchildren, Sean and Kelly Barrett of Holiday, Fla., Carrie Clark of North Guilford, Todd Clark of Meriden, and Barrett, Brandon and Devin McGoldrick of Meriden, also by her little canine friend, Dudley.
A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church on Thursday, Aug. 13, at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. Barrett's memory to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Research Parkway, Meriden, or to the National Parkinson Foundation, 1501 NW 9th Ave., Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136-1494.
The John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., is in charge of arrangements.

MARIE N. BUONANNI
ROCKY HILL — Marie N. Buonanni, 68, a resident of the Elm Hill Nursing Center, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, in the Middlesex Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born in Meriden, Feb. 3, 1930, a daughter of the late Frank J. and Nellie Pinto Buonanni Sr. She had been a resident of 13 Springdale Ave. most of her life until an automobile accident caused her convalescence. She was employed by A.G.C. Inc. for eight years. Before that, she had been employed by the Domino Press and the International Silver Co. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
She is survived by seven brothers, James, Nicholas, Louis, Frank Jr., Albert, Robert and Edward Buonanni, all of Meriden; three sisters, Anna Urbano and Shirley Foucault, both of Wallingford, and Lillian Rodriguez of Meriden; several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Her funeral service will begin Thursday, Aug. 13, 1998, at 8:15 a.m. from the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St., with her Mass of Christian burial at 9 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She will be buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to visit in the funeral home today from 4 to 8 p.m.

RAYMOND K. PLOTICA
MERIDEN – Raymond K. Plotica, 89, of 23 Converse Ave., husband of 57 years to Natalie (Semenuk) Plotica, died on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, at Harbor Hill Care Center in Middletown.
Born in Misurovka, Ukraine, on April 9, 1909, he was the son of the late Kapiton and Agafia (Golenko) Plotica. He had lived in Meriden since 1924 and had attended Wilcox Technical School. Mr. Plotica and his brother, George, owned and operated Plotica's Market on Sherman Avenue for more than 35 years. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church and sang with the church choir.
Besides his wife, Natalie, he is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Eugenia Crawford of Miami, Fla., Valerie Wigglesworth and her husband John of Meriden; a son and daughter-in-law, William R. and Carol Plotica of Meriden; eight grandchildren, Bruce, Noah and Eric Crawford, Larissa and Jonathan Wigglesworth, and John, Peter and Elizabeth Plotica; a sister-in-law, Nina Plotica; and a nephew and his wife, Philip G. and Barbara Plotica, and their four children, Jane, Gregory, Mark and Luke, all of Gettysburg, Pa. Mr. Plotica was predeceased by two brothers, George and Jakov Plotica.
The funeral will be held on Thursday at 9:45 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 10:30 a.m. in SS. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church. Burial will be in the SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Requiem Parastas at 7 p.m. during calling hours with the Rev. Thomas Pleska officiating.
