MANUEL TORRES
MERIDEN — Manuel Torres, 92, of 78 S. Colony St., husband of the late Julia Torres, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, in the Westfield Care and Rehab Center.
He was born in Aguada, Puerto Rico, Dec. 8, 1905, a son of the late Emerejirdo and Maria Roman Torres. He was a resident of Meriden for the past 35 years. He retired from the Meriden Foundry after 15 years of employment. He was very active in his church, the Christian Pentecostal Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Lydia Santiago; and seven sons, Ruben, Abelardo, Nelson, Esteban, Ramon, Ovidio and Olegario Torres; 36 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Evelio Torres.
Relatives and friends may gather today in the Christian Pentecostal Church, 80 Liberty St., Meriden, from 6 to 9 p.m. His funeral will be held Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the Smith-Ruzzo Funeral Home, 226 W. Main St., with the Rev. Josue Estrada conducting services at 11:30 a.m. He will be interred with his wife in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

HELEN C. VENTRIGLIO
WALLINGFORD — Helen Carrano Ventriglio, 85, of 22 Spruce Glen Terrace, Wallingford, died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998, at her home after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Pasquale M. Ventriglio.
Mrs. Ventriglio was born in Brooklyn, New York on Jan. 27, 1913, and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Russo Carrano. A resident of Wallingford for the past 28 years, she and her late husband were the owner and operators of the Pizza Plaza for 23 years until retiring in 1979.
She leaves a son, Frank P. Venn of Wallingford; sisters, Mary Lussier of Wallingford and Adeline Ores, formerly of Wallingford. She was the grandmother of Frank P. Ventriglio, Patrick H. Venn and Kelley Adinolfi, all of Wallingford. She was predeceased by brothers Harman, Andrew and Anthony Carrano and sisters, Jennie Nuzzi and Beatrice Carrano.
Her funeral procession will leave the North Haven Funeral Home, 36 Washington Ave., Saturday at 11:30. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Frances Cabrini Church at noon. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. The visiting hours will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.

SCOTT A. DAVID
MERIDEN — Scott A. David, 37, formerly of 42 Fremont St., died on Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, at New Britain General Hospital.
Born in Meriden on July 31, 1961, he was the son of Virginia (LeValley) David and the late William H. David Sr. Mr. David was a graduate of Platt High School and was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Middletown.
Besides his mother, he is survived by two sisters, Rosemary Caron and Debra Kennedy, both of Meriden; three brothers, Lawrence E. David, Ronald M. David and William H. David Jr., all of Meriden; and by many nieces and nephews. Mr. David was predeceased by a sister, Cheryl DeMonte.
The funeral and burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Should friends desire, contributions in his memory may be made to Hospital for Special Care, 2150 Corbin Ave., New Britain, CT 06053. Arrangements are under the direction of the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden.

EDO J. FANFESTI
MERIDEN — Edo J. Fanfesti, 84, of Timberlea Drive, Meriden, died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, in the Thomas A. Coccomo Memorial Health Care Center in Meriden. He was the husband of the late Elizabeth M. Hartman Fanfesti.
Born in Hoboken, N.J., Feb. 19, 1914, son of the late Fanfello and Teodolinda Varese Fanfesti, he was a Wallingford resident for many years before moving to Meriden in 1970.
Mr. Fanfesti had been the captain of the guards at the Connecticut Reformatory, in Cheshire, for 32 years and later had been a lock inspector for the Emhardt Corp., in Berlin, for 10 years until his retirement. He was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church, in Meriden, and was a life member of the Wallingford Lodge of Elks, No. 1365.
He is survived by his two daughters and his son-in-law, Brenda E. and Sebastian J. "Vince" LaBella of Wethersfield and Linda E. Rathonyi of Meriden; two grandchildren, Julianna Rathonyi and Daniel Rathonyi; three sisters, Rita (Mrs. John) Hacku of Wallingford, Ann Caswell of Rye, N.Y., and Harriet Crocco of Fairfield; a brother, Edward Fanfesti of Portland; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Louise Carroll.
His family will receive relatives and friends in the Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Wallingford, Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Wallingford Funeral Home, when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery. Gifts in his memory may be sent to the North Central Hospice, 8 Keynote Drive, Vernon, CT 06066.

EDWARD GUMKOWSKI
SPRING HILL, Fla. — Edward Gumkowski, 82, of Spring Hill, and formerly of Meriden, Conn., husband of Helen Kania Gumkowski, died on Thursday morning, Sept. 3, 1998, at Vencor Hospital in Tampa, Fla., after a brief illness.
Born in Guilford, Conn., on July 5, 1916, the son of the late Walter and Maryanna Gumkowski, he had been a Meriden resident for over 50 years prior to moving to Florida eight years ago. Mr. Gumkowski was employed at International Silver Co. for 40 years, retiring in 1981. He was a parishioner of St. Frances Cabrini Church in Spring Hill, and former parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church in Meriden. He was a member of the Connecticut Club of Spring Hill and an honorary member of the Polish Knights Club in Meriden.
Besides his wife, Helen, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Walter E. and Kathleen Gumkowski of Meriden, Richard J. and Mary Gumkowski of Raleigh, N.C., and Frederick A. and Jeanne Gumkowski of Swarthmore, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Gayle Carbone, Beth Carabetta and Lynn Galasso; Jill Gumkowski and Collin Gumkowski; Jonathan Gumkowski and Timothy Gumkowski; three great-grandchildren, Nicole and Olivia Carbone; and Nicholas Galasso; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Jeannie Choromanski of Meriden.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 9:15 a.m. from the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., and at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.

JOHN MALONEY
FARMINGTON — John "Joe" Maloney, 83, of Farmington, the husband of Agnes (Holleran) Maloney, died Thursday, Sept. 3, 1998, at John Dempsey Hospital.
In Meriden, Mr. Maloney is survived by his brother, William Maloney.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. from the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick-St. Anthony Church, Hartford. Burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Calling hours are Monday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Patrick-St. Anthony Church, 285 Church St., Hartford, CT 06103.

SCOTT B. DELUCA
LOXAHATCHEE, Fla. — Scott B. DeLuca, 41, passed away on Aug. 24, 1998, after a lengthy illness. Originally from Meriden, Conn., Mr. DeLuca had been a resident of Florida since 1978.
He was born in Meriden, March 12, 1957, a son of Willard E. and Shirley B. (DeFelice) DeLuca. Majoring in mechanical engineering at Bridgeport Engineering Institute and specializing in air conditioning technology at H. C. Wilcox Tech in Connecticut, Mr. DeLuca was employed by Temporale Climate Control in Waterbury. Mr. DeLuca was a special inspector with the Palm Beach County School District, West Palm Beach, Fla., owner and president of DeLuca's Air Conditioning Inc., Loxahatchee, Fla., HVAC service manager with Farmer and Irwin Corporation for several years and was with John C. Cassidy Air Conditioning WPB upon coming to Florida in 1978. He held certification with the Palm Beach County Contractors and the Martin County Contractors as well as a certified mechanical plan examiner and mechanical inspector.
Mr. DeLuca was a master Mason belonging to Lodge No. 327 West Palm Beach. He also was a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite. He was an avid bowler, receiving many trophies, as well as enjoying tennis, golf, and fishing.
In addition to his loving wife, Mara (Filipone) DeLuca, he is survived by his parents, Willard E. and Shirley B. DeLuca; a sister and brother-in-law, Judith A. and Donald R. Despres; a brother, Dan W. De Luca; two stepchildren, several nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of his family. Contributions may be made to National Kidney Cancer Association, 1234 Sherman Ave., Suite 203, Evanston, IL 60202-1375.

EMILY M. DULIN
WALLINGFORD — Emily M. Dulin, 85, formerly of 111 Fair St., died Friday, Sept. 4, at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford. She was the wife of the late John G. Dulin.
She was born on Sept. 24, 1912, in Astoria, N.Y., a daughter of the late Emil and Emma Basta Motl. She was a parishioner of the Most Holy Trinity Church in Wallingford.
She is survived by a daughter Mrs. Dennis (Melanie) Carder of Meriden; three sons, Edwin Dulin of Durham, N.H., Michael Dulin of Bridgewater, Maine, and Stephen Dulin of Baltimore, Md.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial, Saturday, Sept. 12, at 9 a.m. at the Most Holy Trinity Church, 84 N. Colony St., Wallingford. There are no calling hours. Burial will be private. It is suggested that gifts in her memory be sent to the Connecticut Hospice, 61 Burban Drive, Branford, CT 06405.

LOUIS S. HIVELY
MERIDEN — Louis S. Hively, 93, of 88 Dexter Ave., died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Margaret Thomas Hively.
He was born in Meriden, Sept. 12, 1904, a son of the late William S. and Henrietta Weir Hively. He worked at the International Silver Company, Factory H, until his retirement in 1969. He was a lifelong member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was a 32nd degree Mason and he belonged to the Center Lodge No. 97 in Meriden. He was a life member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite.
He is survived by two sons, Louis W. Hively and his late wife, Barbara, of Southington and John T. Hively and his wife, Jane of Branford; one grandson, William L. Hively and his wife, Agnes, of New Britain; two great-grandchildren, Michael Bane and Victoria Rose Hively of New Britain. He was predeceased by a brother, Charles Hively.
A graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 10 a.m. at Walnut Grove. The Rev. Perry Beaver will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Building Fund, 164 Hanover St., Meriden, CT 06451. Arrangements are in the care of the Beecher & Bennett Flatow Funeral Home, 48 Cook Ave., Meriden.
